I took dad through Stevenson on our way back to Portland from the Ape Caves because I had been here once before (to Walking Man Brewing) and liked the town.  We needed to get some lunch anyway and I knew there were some other restaurants here.

After walking around, we ended up at Mark's.  Can't say this was the greatest decision we've ever made.  We only had the soup and salad combination which consisted of a tomato soup with a side of organic greens.  If you ever go to this place, you'll probably be surprised they know the word organic.  The dressing that came with it (we both ordered raspberry vinaigrette) probably could have been used instead of mortar to build a brick wall.  Tastier than mortar, I'm sure, but probably not by much.

When a place says Family Restaurant, I usually run for the hills.  Most of the other restaurants were closed when we were in Stevenson on Monday.  Don't know why.  I'm sure I'll be back in Stevenson again.  Rest assured I will head straight for the Walking Man next time I'm back in town.

We had 2 meals here.  The first was a lunch.  We both wanted the clubhouse, but we have a rule.  We never order the same thing!  So.... she wants the clubhouse bad, but in the spirit of competition, we have to "rock off" for it.  1...2...3.... scissors-scissors.   1.....2.....3..... paper-rock..... good ol rock my ass!  So, I order the patty melt.  The patty melt was made with good burger, but it was greasy.  Her clubhouse was a knockout.  It's huge....like Sputnik, spherical yet pointy in places.  She eats 1 part of the 3 part sammy... I end up having the leftovers 2 days later as afternoon snack before the wedding!  mmmm.. good ol rock wins after all!!

Breakfast Sunday morning!  We go with 3 peeps from our wedding crew.  Now, we love us some biscuits and gravy... it's something we don't make at home much, so we get it when we go out.  The gravy was too thin for our liking and the biscuit was a bit dense.  Not bad, but not great.

I never expect much when entering a small town diner for a meal. Mark's wasn't fantastic, but it certainly didn't suck. They had quite a few breakfast and lunch options that sounded yummy. I settled on the Western wrap and a shared half-order of the biscuits and gravy. The B&G were underwhelming - I make them better at home. The wrap was pretty decent tasting although the cheese wasn't melted. What it lacked in flavor it made up for in size! Holy crap this thing was bigger than my forearm! I only ate a quarter of it and was stuffed to the gills. I could tell the hash browns were reconstituted, but they were still super yummy. Overall a decent diner stop in a town with not too many breakfast options - although I think if I return it will be to sample the lunch menu.
