I don't even know where to start honestly. I have tried so many things on their menu (and NO I wasn't even drinking yet) and they all have tasted great!!! The scottish eggs description leads you to believe they aren't great but they truly are. So try them.
It is loud in their (because it is a tavern first) but you can bring your kids and just hang out with some great food and not feel cramped or being rushed to hurry up.
So if you a a place you can be with the family and enjoy great food with resonable prices then I would come here.
Been here several times, including Geeks Who Drink. Â It's more laid back than Quinn's and it has a more open space, but it still gets just as packed on popular nights. Â Good food even though they have mostly NON-Irish items, but the beer is in line with the land of St. Patty's.
Portions of all dishes are very hearty! Â Enjoyed my chili mac & cheese last night. Â HUGE plate of elbow macaroni and real cheese and cream. Â The added chicken breast was grilled and juicy, and it topped the macaroni rather getting mixed in. Â I did wish they gave me more chili, or that the chili had more OOMPH because though I could see it stirred in with the creamy goodness, I could barely taste it. Â The friend's bangers & mash was flavorful and you can't really go wrong with it - I liked it; however, you may find variations at other places that might appeal to you more. Â I've also had the rosemary Guinness lamb stew - it was ok, but it seemed overwhelmed with rosemary or something because the essence ended up too "flowery."
Service has usually been average but still friendly, although a couple times the staff has been excellent (like last night). Â Overall friendly and efficient.
I remember when this space used to be the Wayfarer... though the concept had seemed cool, McCabe's execution is far better.
Hungry? Order "Bangers and Mash!" and a glass of Guinness
The name alone sounds like a good time. Nice large portion of sausage ;) on top of a fluffy mound of mashed potatoes covered in a dark gravy. Yummmmy...
Personally I don't care for lamb, but I hear their Shepard's Pie was really good too.
Excellent attentive staff, even on a busy night.
"Cheers!"
Oh how I love finding myself on the outskirts of the strip, where the truly destitute come to flock and it has the feel of a land that long ago had so much promise. Â This is where the true diamonds are. Â Just south of the strip in a place that is transitioning to the industrial you find McCabes. Â A glorious, Irish style bar, with a friendly staff and a ton of room. Â They know what they are and they rock it well. Â The beer is cold, the drinks are poured perfect, but these are not the true awesome factor of this place. Â THE FOOD! Â THE FOOD! THE FOOD! Â I have rarely ever had bar food this good and well thought out. Â Whether it be the tofu or the steak, it all comes out consistent and tasty. Â The main attraction though, the curry dipping sauce, truly addicting! Â Not a spot to bring a mother-in-law or even a business guest, but certainly a spot to stop to catch a game and enjoy a cold brew with some delicious food.
Review Source:Best Corn Beef-n-cabbage in the Springs. You must also try the scottish eggs. I was a little scared to try them, but now I don't go without ordering them! It is a bar, so it can be loud. The wait staff can be slow at times, but they are always friendly. My husband always gets the Bangers-n-Mash and devours it. When I am in the mood for Irish food, this is where I go!
Review Source:Being on a healthy kick, it's hard to go to a bar that has a healthy menu. Â Somehow, McCabe's not only gives you an option but gives you some awesome options. Â The coconut crusted tofu is hands down one of my favorite dishes in town. Â It comes with some killer green beans and some very tasty cous cous. Â Add to that friendly staff, great prices, and a fun/festive atmosphere, how can you go wrong?
Review Source:Great local establishment on south tejon a bit south of downtown. Â they have smith wicks on tap (can't beat that) and the food is solid. Â I was there for lunch and had the classic fish and chips. Â Good stuff. Â Atmosphere is classic divvy irish bar. Â More open than Quinn's.
I will definitely be back.
Great Lunch! My friend and I were looking for some pub/comfort food on what may be the last wintery day of the year but this was much more than your regular greasy pub mixed grill. Our server was great and the food just as good. I had Cod Cakes and left nothing on my plate. Delicious!
Review Source:I have never been to this place and had a bad time. Maybe it's because Smithwicks is my favorite beer and they serve it on tap! Or, maybe it's because this place never really gets obnoxiously crowded. The patrons that come to McCabe's are laid back, dart throwing, live band listening, no playing shitty music on the jukebox kind of people. Not the fight starting, ass grabbing, dance all over you without permission kind of people that you will find further down Tejon St. (This has at least been the case everytime I have been).
Generally for drinks I go with my usual Smithwicks and occassionally I will have an Irish Car Bomb or two in between beers. I like the car bombs because they don't use too much Guiness (I am not a chugger) although my husband will probably say that that is a complaint of his.
I gave this place 4 stars because I am not a big fan of the food. I like the pot pie and a few of the appetizers, but Irish food isn't really my favorite.
What a solid Irish joint! I was craving some corned beef and cabbage and was pleasantly surprised when I tasted what seemed like some home cooked Irish awesomeness. The full selection of Irish beer and food was exactly what I was looking for when It came to my experience. I'm not stranger to the Irish culture and what they have to offer and therefore my intentions for obtaining the true Irish experience. The Irish car bombs are ALMOST spot on. They could use just a bit more Guinness for it but the balance is still there where you need it. And as far as the corned beef and cabbage...... Epic, seriously I almost thought that I was having a home cooked meal and had the pleasure of drinking some stouts to go with it. The bonus part to this bar is that they will serve you anything you can think of regardless of origin.
Review Source:McCabe's is a great local pub with a really fun atmosphere. The food is good: my table had a variety of choices from the menu and specifically loved the fish and chips, curry fries, Scotch eggs, and the bbq bacon burger (great bun, too!). They also have a good variety of beers.
The bar is very open with plenty of tables for families and groups. Our waitress was very attentive and kind over the 2+ hours we were there. The owners are incredibly friendly and seemed to know most of the customers in the bar. Â
I will definitely return the next time I'm in Colorado Springs!
Ooohhh, I felt like I had to be rolled out of here in a wheelchair. Â So hearty, so good; just what Irish food should be.
I came here with my husband for date night though apparently it was a comfortable enough place for families with kiddies, babes and older. Â Granted we went there around 6 p.m. so it must not get rowdy until probably after 9 p.m. from what I can tell from the other reviews.
Anyhow, on to the food... I had the Shepard's Pie, made with nice size stewed, tender bites of juicy lamb, full of delicious vegetables, topped with mashed potatoes and healthy, healthy cheddar cheese, and served with Irish Soda Bread matched, of course, with Shamrock Butter on the side. Â Mouthwatering? Â Yes. Â Filling? Â Definitely! Â My husband dined on the Rosemary Guinness Lamb Stew which was equally as tender, juicy and delicious with root vegetables and maybe not as deathly. Â My only disappointment was that we went with the Guinness Chocolate Cake instead of our waitress' suggestion of the Irish Bread Pudding. Â If you have read my reviews, you know I love dessert and I so look forward to it. Â Unfortunately, the Guinness Chocolate Cake fell short on my dessert expectations chart due to it being more of a flourless cake and not being advertised as such and just lacking in flavour; also, perhaps if it had been served with the sauce it should have come with (it was not ready yet) it might have tasted better.
Again, try McCabe's Tavern through <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FRubberDollar.net&s=4c558e340ba57a78df343b8cf8784724a408ca0158000f359fb45f532d049e7c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://RubberDollar.net</a> so you can see what I am talking about!
This place holds a perfect balance between being a bar and a restaurant. Too often, my pub dining experiences are either A) eating right at the bar, which isn't my favorite thing or B) sitting next to the bar with all of the drunk people, balancing your beer and food on a table made of particle board and packaging tape. This isn't the case here! The inside of this place is so spacious, it results in the eating area and bar having a nice buffer zone between each other.
Our waitress was great. She was great at checking in on us and had a smile that made us all feel right at home.
Food was definitely good, but I wouldn't say great. We started with an appetizer of mussels. I didn't care for those too much. The texture was off and the broth had an almost sour taste to it. I sampled some cheese ale soup that was sooo good, but it's really thick. A chunk of bread along side of that would've made it great. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food and I would have to say that their fish 'n' chips are excellent - definitely the best I've had lately. Oh, and the Guinness! They pour an amazing Guinness - very little head on the top! Nice!
I would absolutely like to come back - if not only to try the Irish car bomb cheesecake... wha? yes... please.
The other folks who reviewed McCabe's did not lie. Â This is the most pub-like place I've been to in the Springs. Â They had football (soccer) on the tele and their fish and chips were the best I've had outside of England. Â The batter on the fish was crisp and crunchy and the fries were nice as well. Â
What really won my heart was that they actually import Coleman's Mustard. Â Sure you can get this powdered at your local grocer, but they actually have JARS of the stuff. Â No re-hydration here.
My sole disappointment was that they had run out of Fullers the night I was there. Â When it's fresh, it's one of the best beers you can find on tap. Â The other beers on tap were good enough, but not quite London Pride.
Overall, a great pub. Â They'll get 5 stars if I go back and they have my Fullers!
What a great Irish Pub...a very large beer selection with prompt, friendly service. Â There's also a low key crowd and some decent live music. Â It's just a great place to hang out with friends and meet a few new people along the way.
The menu is pretty authentic as well and tastes great!
Great beer selection. Â One of only two pubs in the state that I know for sure that serves Fullers London Pride on tap. Â (in fact my profile pix is of me drinking a London Pride in London)
Pretty good pub food. Â The wings are good. Â Just don't order the extra hot unless you are prepared for some real fire.
The owner is a great guy and he is usually around the bar and always willing to listen to your suggestions. Â The staff is second to none!
The bar can get pretty loud late at night and I guess that is a good thing for some people.
We always watch USA soccer there and often times a decent crowd will show up.
McCabe's is a great Irish pub for someone who, like me, who has no desire to brave the Tejon Street Bar Gauntlet. The atmosphere isn't nearly as frantic, and the food is a sight better (the chips and gravy are a fantastic, demonic combination, bringing tears to the eyes of cardiologists everywhere as they sign the papers on their new Ferraris). There's a decent beer menu with a mix of Irish and British brews along with some local favorites. There's also a decent selection of Irish Whiskeys as well, if that's more your speed.
There are several TVs scattered around the bar (including one big screen) for watching whatever game happens to be on that night, but the real entertainment is only there on Wednesday night. Wednesday is "Geeks Who Drink" night, with a pub quiz and, apparently, a movie - the last time I was there, one of the Lord of the Rings movies was playing. I didn't stay to watch - as long as that movie is, I'd surely be bankrupt and in the throes of anterograde amnesia by the time it was over - Â but it was a good time nonetheless.
Great place to enjoy a pint and have a bite.
The food here is outstanding pub fare. Â You really have to try the Taylor Ham and Egg sandwich. Â It's a sublime creation. Â The fries come with a curry dipping sauce which is great.
The beer and liquor selection is what you'd expect from an Irish Bar. Â It's great to be able to have a Smithwick's and Jameson with dinner.
The staff is very friendly and Greg, the owner, is always around and very friendly. Â The crowd always seems like it's regulars, even if you don't recognize them. Â It's a friendly, accommodating atmosphere.
This will be the first place I take anyone who comes to visit me.
