This place is amazing. Â I've known of it for years from when it was small town breakfast joint and I'm just amazed at the transition that's taken place. Â Consistently having wonderful service and really great food. Â
I've gone with family and friends for great happy hour deals and recently was very please by all the option on the menu. Â Their version of macaroni and cheese was tasty. Cheese curds a great option to share. Â The bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado sandwich is super tasty and fresh. Â
Desserts are also a great choice.
I have to admit, this place caught me off guard in a good way. I was expecting a good ol' regular bar with the standard bar menu (fries, burgers, etc) but this place had quite a nice Irish Menu and yes even Vegetarian friendly items! I wish I tried the Rueben Rolls, since they sounded interesting. This bar will serve you up a nice Martini to a canned beer. I got the Fish and Chips and quite honestly the best Fish n ' Chips I've ever had! The fish pieces were a nice big portion and the batter was a thick, tasty batter. Way better than your standard fish and chips as say, Green Mill. Â Will plan on going back some day.
Review Source:I've tried quite a few Irish pubs and have mostly been disappointed. Â I was starting to think that culinary art in Ireland got lost in the midst of all the beer. Â Then I stumbled on this place. Â I've had the shepherds pie and corned beef...oh and blarney stones. Â I've never been to Ireland but I'm guessing this is the real deal...I'm basing that mostly on it actually being good. Â Only con: Â a little spendy for bar food.
Review Source:More than once, my wife and I have completely lost track of time while enjoying the hospitality of McGarry's. The service is always fast and friendly. The food is great; breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The selection of truly Irish beers on tap are what gives this place serious credibility. The whisky list is pretty good too. The food is very much Irish in spirit, but that's enough. I'm not a huge fan of cabbage or peas anyway. I've never had a bad meal here. I've taken family, friends and co-workers, every one leaving a clean plate and empty glass. Well worth the drive out of the cities and suburbs.
I met a few friends here this evening. We trickled into the patio, had some lovely little reuben-like egg roll things and scotch eggs and beers, and then some more friends arrived.
All told, fourteen of us inadvertently ambushed the place. Yikes! They were completely unfazed, and kindly opened up the back room while our server patiently attended to our every need. Really splendid folks.
The Irish fare isn't particularly authentic, but it was all very tasty, and the healthy portions were very reasonably priced. Boddington's on draft is a big win.
All told I had a great evening with some new and old friends. McGarry's staff were patient, attentive, and kindly invited us back to do it again, anytime. Â A lovely blend of small town hospitality and proper pub atmosphere.
The ambiance is great and the food is EXCELLENT! Â I've tried the burgers, tuna melt, turkey and biscuits, shepard's pie, and Irish po boy... all delicious. Â Especially the shepard's pie. Total comfort food and flavorful. This place makes me feel like I'm in an episode of everything on the Food Network. Â The entire menu looks so great and I always look forward to the next opportunity to go here and try something new!
Review Source:I came here for dinner last night to catch up with a friend. Â Being a pub, I of course had to order some pub food so fish and chips it was topped off with a Bass and Boddingtons. Â Service here is pretty quick, the waitstaff is friendly, and the food is ok, nothing spectacular. Â The fish that came out was well battered, fried perfectly, and it was a pretty large filet. Â It was not overdone at all and was flakey and moist. Â I do however wish they did something more to the batter by adding some seasoning to it because without the tartar sauce/lemon it was pretty darn bland. Â The fries pretty tasty but a wee bit over salted for my tastes. Â This restaurant has a pretty good selection of beer and they will run anywhere from the $5.00-6.00 range so it's a pretty standard. Â
This restaurant does have a pretty nice interior and they have seating outside at the front of the restaurant and at the back of the restaurant. Â All in all a good place to eat especially in Maple Plain with its limited options. Â I'd go back if I was in the neighborhood.
Had a breakfast meeting here at 8 AM on a Saturday morning. Â We were the first two in the restaurant, and we were greeted warmly by our server and another woman (may have been an owner). Â I dig the decor and the layout - I imagine it's a lively place in the evenings...a great place to share a pint w/ friends.
We each ordered up the McMenamy Hash (Corned Beef w/ 2 eggs and potatoes). Â It was exceptional. Â The corned beef was plentiful (ultra tender and great flavor), as were the potatoes. Â The tastes came together perfectly, and the eggs were cooked perfectly (and also large). Â It also includes toast or an English Muffin. Â I threw down my entire plate within about 10 minutes...I was hungry and didn't have to do much talking during the meeting!
Most of the breakfast options were in the $8-$11, which seems like a decent value for all the food you get. Â If you happen to be in the Long Lake/Orono/Maple Plain region, definitely check it out. Â The dinner options also look excellent, too.
