Horrible service, we wanted to sit outside because there were plenty of available spaces but we were told that it was all reserved. We waited for 30 minutes, we were told that we will be waiting for a while still, when told them that they have plenty tables outside they finally agreed to move couple of tables together. We waited there for another 30 minutes, we didn't even get water, WATER!!! Nobody seemed to give a rat's a... And it seems like we were disturbing their peace with our presence! Keep in mind, we had 5 hungry kids waiting patiently for their pizza and WATER!!! We finally complained to a manager and told her about our horrible experience, she offered to pay for our food but we refused and told her that we didn't care about that, we just wanted to eat and if they didn't want our business we will take it elsewhere!! She then snapped at us and said that she just can't help us!! I will not go to that place again, I don't care about the food, there are plenty of artisan pizzerias around the area anyway and we do get a much better service!!! I am positive this place will be gone pretty soon if they keep up this "mellow" attitude!!
Review Source:Sadly, this restaurant did not meet our expectations. Because there was a wait when we arrived, we sat and ordered drinks at the bar. For starters, I ordered a $10 glass of wine and I received what appeared to be a shot glass worth of wine - it was way under poured. Secondly, there were 4 TVs on at the bar - some of them on the same channel. My husband kindly asked the bartender if they could change one of them to a current Ranger baseball game. The guy just shrugged. When my husband kindly asked again if it was possible a few minutes later, the bartender was rude and snapped at him about being too busy. Tip adjusted just for being rude, thank you.
When we were seated at our (dirty) table, we ordered our pizzas. They arrived quickly and hot. Unfortunately, the pizza was just average, if that. We've enjoyed better service and better pizza at other Frisco restaurants. We likely won't be back.
Very disappointing service, yummy food. Â If you can get past the service, which I couldn't, the food was delicious. Â We aren't coming back bc we ordered appetizers and drinks and they did not show up until after the pizza. Â The server gave a warning in the beginning that pizza would take 30 minutes to make. Â After the pizza arrived, we received 1 of the 3 appetizers. Â They ran out of ingredients for one of the drinks and told us way too late. Â They forgot my kids dinner and made her wait. Â Just sad. Â I wanted to like it so much but in between the bad service and the check being about 30 a person...there are too many other places to go. Â We love pizzeria testa and will keep going there from now on.
Review Source:I'm surprised by these negative reviews. My family and I have been there on 4 different occasions and each time the service and quality of food has been great! I will say that the first time we went, back in March, the length of time it took to get our food seemed a little long. However, each time since, it has been spot on.
My daughter is on a gluten free diet and is picky when it comes to the taste of food. She orders the Gourmet White pizza and has consistently loved it. Not sure how the other gluten free pizza taste.
My husband joined the beer club and has tried several different beers that he would not have otherwise tried. Our waiters have been fantastic in describing what he should try based on what my husband has told them he likes.
My personal favorite is the pretzels with the beer cheese. For pizza, I like the House Special or Mighty Meaty the best.
The vibe of the place is relaxed and definitely mellow! In all but one of our visits, a manager has stopped by to see if everything is ok.
We will go back again!
This was really disappointing. We placed a to go order. At home we discovered the pizza crust was very doughy and didn't seem to be cooked all the way. We got the House Special...nothing special about it at all. We also ordered the Holy Shitake Pie which was to be "drizzled with a garlic aioli sauce" - it was no drizzle! There was a lot of it and it was very over powering! My boyfriend, who loves pizza, chose to have salad instead of a second slice of either pizza. The pizza is incredibly over priced too! Won't be coming back - I can get cheaper and better pizza with cooked crust elsewhere!
Review Source:CUSTOMER SERVICE: VERY BAD
This location was a total let down. We asked for two Vegetarian gluten free, diary free pizzas. (Its on the menu). They gave us two pizza with real cheese. The waitress forgot to remind the cooks about the cheese so they remade them. After 45 mins of more waiting, the next round of vegetarian pizza had the non-dairy cheese and was gluten free but full of meat. We received a lot of apologies but still were charged for the pizza. The manager took half off one of the two pizzas even though both pizza's were wrong and we couldn't eat it. Â That's it! He didnt seem to think it was a big deal. We have eaten at other Mellow Mushroom pizza's in different locations and we usually like them because their menu is great for those with special diets. Don't go to this Frisco location if you have allergies because they don't pay attention and its too risky. We will not be back.
Taste of pizza: Above average
Cost: Expensive and really not worth it.
Customer service: Fire them all. A bunch of derelicts.
The large pizza size was small made worse by the rather thick and large 'bready' crust. Taste was equal to or slightly better than Papa Murphy's.
Took over 60 min for the pizza to be served after waiting 30 min to be seated. Most inside tables were empty and the servers were walking around with nothing in their hands. Some would walk to the bar and talk to other employees or interrupt the kitchen. Some would go to the back between the bar and the kitchen and sit down in full view of other customers.
If there was a manager that night, they were not on the floor or directing employees to be more productive (like making pizza instead of wandering or loafing)
Slow and clueless (directionless) servers, long wait and high prices make this a must-pass.
Mellow Mushroom has a fun, psychedelic atmosphere (the only reason for 2 stars). There is an outdoor patio with bar that looks like a great place to have a beer after work. I went during lunch hour so my experience was not a good one. The food is expensive for what you get. They also took much longer with our gluten free pizza and when we received it, the order was incorrect. We did not get to enjoy our pizza there so we had to get it to go. There was no offer to give us a discount to make up for the mistakes which was flat out rude. The taste of the pizza was impressive for gluten free but the toppings could of been much better. I don't plan on visiting again. Too overpriced and the service was too mellow.
Review Source:Let me first say, the weekday lunch experience is much better than the dinner experience. The lunch pizzas turn out perfect. The crust is crisp on the outside and doughy on the inside. I rarely eat the crust on pizzas, but at Mellow Mushroom, I eat the crust. The pizza isn't as greasy as the chains like Pizza Hut, but this isn't a healthy place either. The Maui Wowi pizza is my favorite. The pizzas here taste less manufactured than the other chain pizza places.
The pizzas at dinner (my last dinner was a month ago) were consistently burnt. The bottoms of the pizzas came out black with every visit. The manager was very nice after we told him about how our three dinner visits had burnt pizzas. He said that they had a new crew on the evenings who haven't figured out the right amount of corn meal to put on the bottom of the crust and how long to leave the pizzas in the oven.
Servers have been a mix from good to not very good.
It has a family atmosphere sort of vibe to it. Â Good pool of pizza options to choose from, which earns major points. Â (including gluten free options) Â Most pizzas are about $11. Â We had a table of 6 ladies I think and didn't wait long for our grub at all. Â All the pizzas came out hot/freshly made and everyone was pretty pleased. Â I had half a House Special and half a Mellowterranean and enjoyed both.
I would come back.
Had a solid first experience. My friends (who are not vegetarian) were kind enough to pick a mutually beneficial location for our last lunch outing. Of the four of us I was the only veg. But that didn't limit any of us. We all found multiple selections to choose from.
I had some Avocado pita minus the onions and sprouts. It was totally yum. The others all ordered their usuals. I was kicking myself for not coming here sooner. I didn't bother with chips and sides; the sandwich was enough to fill me up.
It's got a relaxed vibe, our waiter was cool and everything came out as ordered. I'll definitely be back. (Assuming this place stays open. This location has had many face lifts over the years and we can't figure out why, it's got great visibility.)
Mellow Mushroom is an interesting twist on a pizza restaurant.
The restaurant itself feels like what a 90's Fridays felt like before it was turned into an awkward love child of Bennigans and Chili's. Its very lively, and their food is incredibly unique. Their Parmesan Pretzels are great. Their pizza will catch you off guard. I ordered their all meat pizza and found it good but a bit overpowering. The pizza has huge portions of meat all over it (shocker I know) and great cheese.
Next time ill probably be trying only two or three things as opposed to what I had before.
Whether your inside or outside, you'll find something eye catching.
If you like pizza you owe it to yourself to try it out. This isn't the best pizza place you'll ever go to. I think you'll be surprised at just how distinctive their atmosphere and food is though.
Food was good, service was ok. I could barely hear our waiter so it was hard to understand what he was saying. He was also very slow. It took awhile for drink refills also we had asked for an additional dipping sauce and by the time we finally got it, our pretzel was already consumed. Staff seems to move at a very slow pace with no sense of urgency. It appeared to me that one server in particular  would rather watch tv than take care of his tables.
Review Source:So I was ready for the bad service walking in - but.....
6:30 pm - Friday night...
Got the last table available, by the bar.  Wow - what a beer selection  Bartender comes over greets and takes beverage order.  The have St Arnolds Rootbeer on tap!!!
I'll take a Tank 7 (yes, it's a GOOD selection on tap) and look a the menu.  Seems a little pricy  - lets see what the food is like.
Pizza and a spinach salad. Â $3 extra for bacon on a spinach salad - so large salad now $13 - WHOA! Â And it's not that large! Â And it comes out AFTER the pizza. Â Taste good though
Pizza (buffalo wing) is good. Â Crust has a little too much chew (more like a bagel - but actually overworked dough with too much gluten). Â Wifey likes more than I do.
Service - well.... It was good! Â May be due to us being served by bartenders, they worked together keeping drinks filled, plates cleared. Â No complaints - so they might have things - kinda. Â Waiting for 24 minutes to get my salad that should have been delivered in under 10 (it's a salad!) was the only issue (and for that loose a star).
I'll head back if only for their beer options and the ability to have a taste of any of them.
Wow, this pizza was oustanding. Â A bit pricey but very very good. Â Most of the reviews less than 4 stars below ding them because of service. Â Our service was "fine", but as long as it doesn't suck, i rate on food more than anything else. Â
I will say, this is not your normal red sauce pizza. Â This is funky pizza, so if you're in the mood for the nostalgic tastes of a trip to italy, you're in the wrong place. Â if you want the Thai-Dye Chicken or the Mellow Mediterranean, though, you're in the right place.
Mellow will always have a place in my heart ever since living walking distance from one in Jacksonville, FL. Â Let me tell you...I cannot tell you how loud I shrieked when I saw one really close to work in Frisco. Â While trying to introduce a friend to all kinds of awesome pizza in DFW this was my first choice.
I would say that Mellow isn't generally known for top notch service but it's improved over time. Â THe atmosphere doesn't quite top the ones in Jacksonville and the beach but it's still so unique with a retro and funky design and lots to look at.
But why I recommend coming: Â Uh, the food! Â The homemade, fresh bread it simply the best...regardless of the Mellow the bread is always the same. Â I recommend the pretzels, any salad, any pizza or calzone. Â They have so many good options in pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. Â My number one is probably the house calzone that has spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes. Â Amazing. Â Don't get confused with the house pizza which is full of meat. Â They also always have a lot of beers on tap, many local.
Oh, just go!
Our first time here and it was excellent. We were seated promptly and drinks ordered. We started off with the Pretzels which were fantastic. Very soft and hot. We then ordered the Maui Wowie which was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, answered any questions we had and made sure we were taken care of. A very good experience was had. We will be back.
Review Source:Awesome pizza!!! Yummy! However, the last time we ordered to go, our order was incorrect. Wrong pizza half and wrong salad. Because I sent my husband to pick up, he didn't realize the order was wrong until he arrived home and I mentioned it. Such a bummer. If they can't get a to go order right, I can only imagine what's going on in the restaurant. The sad thing is... I'm already over this place based on two orders. Too bad since the pizza is so good. Just can't get past the wrong order, terrible phone service and the fact that I had to call four separate times before someone answered the phone.
Update 2/26/13
Gave them another chance a couple months ago. I asked to speak to the manager to talk about our two incorrect orders. He really didn't care or do anything to rectify the situation to keep our business. Never going back. Such a shame because their pizza really is good. Good food isn't the only thing that will keep you in business though.
The pizza here is awesome! The Ingredients always seem to be very fresh. I have tried 4-5 different types of pizzas and I have not run into one I didn't like. It does take a while to get your pizza once you place your order, but I have a feeling that is a result of everything being made fresh. My favorite part, the impeccable wide variety of beers to choose from. They have a huge selection and several of them on tap.
Review Source:5-star service at a pizza joint!
We decided to try the Mellow Mushroom for lunch on a Saturday, a new restaurant that opened in what can best be described as a jinxed location, because it seems no restaurant can survive there. Â Hopefully this one does.
The decor borrows from some of the previous occupants and is a mix of pop art and, well, mushroom references. Â Nothing fancy, but nice enough.
We were seated immediately and our waitress, Ashley, was there ready to take our drink order. Â We took forever trying to figure out what we wanted because there's a plethora of choices, which is a good thing. Â Ashley was patient and attentive without being intrusive. Â But, what really amazed me was when she brought my iced tea, it had one lemon at the ready and one for the refill, which she did by bringing me another glass of iced tea before my glass was even half empty. Â Short of wrapping the lemons in wedge bags to keep the seeds out, I couldn't ask for anything more. Â But wait, there is more--aside from keeping our drinks topped off, she cleaned the table trash. Â Straw wrappers, place setting wrappers and used napkins--these things make my OCD skin crawl, so I usually hide them behind the salt and pepper shakers, but Ashley gathered them with each visit to our table. Â No kidding, it's the best service I've had since dining at The French Room. Â Ok, she didn't sweep the table like they do there between courses, but, hey, it's a pizza joint and I don't have to wear a coat and tie.
As for the food, it was great. Â I had the Holy Shiitake pie, while my wife had a combination of the Classic White and the Maui Wowie. Â Despite being warned that their pizzas take longer to prepare, we got ours in about 15 minutes. Â The first thing I noticed was the crust; it was curiously, yet pleasantly sweet. Â Apparently it's a wheat crust made with spring water. Â The Holy Shiitake was a mushroom lover's delight... just creamy, mushroomy goodness. Â My wife enjoyed the Classic White, but couldn't finish off the 10" small. Â
We talked to the owner on the way to compliment him on the food and service. Â Suffice it to say, the Mellow Mushroom has usurped California Pizza Kitchen as my favorite pizza joint, and being a family-friendly venue, we'll be bringing the kids.
I liked the food because it is all natural - no nasty stuff as well as having gluten free options & coke zero as I am on a special all natural, no high fructose, gluten free deal so it was nice to feel good after I ate out
My friend got the Tortilla Soup which is homemade & she really liked it - I didn't taste it but I am a soup wheore ;) and it just didn't look that good - it's about $4 and some change for a bowl
My choice was the Sweet Spicy Baked Chicken Wings which were really very good but they could use a more plump wing & it comes w/ a couple celery sticks w/ a nice ranch dip
They have a great patio although it is pretty closed up so not great if you are wanting that fresh open air
The bar is nice although hard chairs and it is very much a "mellow" type place. Â
I thought the staff was friendly but a unique younger staff
Would go again but it is not my absolute favorite - Â We went at lunch time mid week and it was not crowded at all - seating & atmosphere reminds me of the Snuffer's lower Greenville 90's style ;)
The family and I went to this place again for the pizza. Â I have to say I like the pizza. Â It's a very popular place with people everywhere and it gets pretty crowded. Â We sat next to a table with about 10 kids and 5 adults who were oblivious to their screaming offspring. Â I don't generally mind kids as my 3 year old was sitting at our table eating his pizza. Â I can't really rate the establishment on the kids and the lack of parenting. Â It was just really loud and really annoying. Â We couldn't hear eachother talk. Â
The place is a growing hot spot and people must love the pizza. Â My biggest complaint is the service. Â The staff seem really nice. Â We waited quite a while for our pizzas only to have the server come out and say they burned one of them. Â So as my wife and I got to eat our pizza in front of the inlaws, they were starving and somewhat upset. Â The server brought out another appitizer for them while the pizza was being re-made. Â When it came out, we got to sit there next to the annoying and screaming kids at the table next to us. Â People in the pizza place were staring at them and even the manager seemed to be glaring at the kids, but he did and said nothing to them. Â
When the bill came, we were charged for the appitizer that was supposed to be free due to our long wait as the kitchen staff failed at the first attempt of cooking a pizza. Â Had to complain about being charged for that and then felt obligated to provide the minimum 10% tip. Â I like the pizza, but not sure we'll be back. Â
I have another friend that said he sat in the place for 15 minutes and a server never showed up to take their order and so they left. Â The place has a ton of potential. Â Just needs more attention to detail. Â Just 3 stars for me. Â Has potential though...
Unlike the Mellow Mushroom from Southlake, this one is very substandard on service, food quality. They have hired high schoolers who are not trained and have no knowledge of pizza. It took 30 mins to get appetizers and then 45 mins to get the pizza on a weekday afternoon during the holiday season. You will see the waiters and the owner running around asking each other about the table number holding a hot pizza in their hand for few mins.
We decided to not to eat here at this location.
The Bears decided to give this place a try after reading a favorable article in the Dallas Morning News about this location. We thought by going in the middle of the week, it perhaps would not be too crowded. Â
Wrong!
The place was absolutely JAM PACKED like a jar of sardines. Â Of course, loud-and-crowded has never stopped us. Â So we prepared ourselves for what seemed like the inevitable l o n g wait, but fortune smiled upon us and two seats soon magically appeared at the bar. Â And what a GROOVY bar it was - we felt like we were back in 1968 at a hippie convention - the enormous illuminated psychedelic backdrop was the coolest!
The bartender was very young, but also very skilled at making mixed drinks - the Old Fashioned he fixed for Mrs. Bear was pronounced excellent, if not the best we've tasted in a long, long time.  He also was very good about offering samples from the huge selection of beer taps along with commentaries on the nuances  of each.
Bar = great; now, on to the food. Â
Mrs. Bear LOVES mushroom pizza, so we tried a Holy Shiitake pie. Â Definitely worth the wait - the flavor was spectacular with garlic and truffle-oil notes, and cooked perfectly. Â I had the one with all the pork products on it (bacon, ham, pepperoni) that I can't remember the clever name of. Â It was pretty tasty and no leftovers were to be found. Â
So if you don't mind a long wait for a table, or don't mind eating at the bar, this place is a fun experience if you're in a lighthearted mood and want something tasty on a cold winter night.
I love MM from another state... This place is terrible... Tried it twice to give benefit of doubt... First time pizza is cold in middle... Took forever to get pizza and service is terrible...asked for manager and she apologized but still charged full fare. I guess they think this service will cut it in plano/ frisco area.
On second visit... Same bad service, constantly looking for server to refill drinks, place order, then notice the disgusting cook picking his back with bare hands, where he is cooking, then flicks it off his fingers towards the salad prep area... After this i could not take it! Walked out to never return!!
If i could give this place a negative zero...Ii would have awarded as so..
I struggled to decided whether to give Mellow Mushroom 3 or 4 stars. There were things I really enjoyed about this place, but at the same time there were things I normally wouldn't deal w/ it.
We arrive at 7:30PM on a Friday, and it's still the new guy in town, so I expected it to be busy... and it was. "45 minute wait sir." So we stayed and waited and their wait time was very accurate. But there was something very "Chucke Cheese's" about this place. All the colors, the structure, the LOUD NOISE... it feels too much like a chain restaurant. If they have an arcade section somewhere that i didn't see, i wouldn't at all be surprised. They also have these young bucks walking around in their bummiest street clothes. They throw on an apron and call it a uniform... which feels almost divey... if the kids weren't so young and careless.
As we are sat, our waiter is moving around looking hella busy. She was ok. Straight to business, she took care of us very well. Had everything prepped and ready. Let us know immediately that it would take 30 minutes for the pizza to be ready (Gaaahdam!!) We were super hungry and didn't expect this kind of wait... so i advise you order an appetizer/salad to compensate. Everything on the menu looks ridiculously good, so I pretty much threw a dart and matched two pizza for a half and half. Let me also say... this is the Most Expensive pizza I've ever had.
Finally got the pizza and it was exactly what I expected. Very Good.
I will be back to try the hoagies and calzones. I literally want to try everything on the menu.
(++) The wheat dough they have was the highlight. High quality ingredients across the board.
(+) MAUI WOWIE on one half and BAYOU BLEU on the other. Very cool of them to split the pie even w/ the different sauces.
(-) It was too loud, and a little expensive.

Mellow Mushroom is my favorite national pizza chain, and has become one of my top 3 go-to pizza places in the DFW Metroplex.
(That top 3 list does not include Neapolitan Style Pizza, as I don't think it's really fair to compare Mellow Mushroom to Cane Rosso. Â They're totally different styles, and each has their place. Â The other two are Picasso's and LA Gourmet Pizza on McKinney.)
Mellow Mushroom is a chain founded in Midtown Atlanta and has expanded out to Dallas. Â I have only been to the Frisco and Arlington, TX locations for Mellow Mushroom as of this writing. Â I have consistently good experiences at their locations. Â Breaking it down:
Atmosphere: Â The restaurant chain seems to follow a psychedelic theme, which aims well at college students. Â (I believe their first Texas locations were in the Austin / San Marcos area.) Â I think of it as kind of a "free birds" of Pizza but with more colors and a bit classier and with a full bar. Â It's a cool concept, though the restaurant can get super loud when it's crowded.
Service: Â The service is pretty good, though I've waited very, very long for a pizza before. Â One time when I went, I ordered a pizza and the waitress came out and apologized because the pizza had a hole in it when it came out of the oven. Â Rather than serving it, they made us a new one. Â It's good that they focus on providing a consistent product.
On atmosphere and service alone, I'd probably give the restaurant 2 or 3 stars.
Food: Â The food is awesome, and gains the establishment a solid 5 stars. Â The food keeps me coming back regularly. Â Here's my thoughts on the menu:
Appetizers:
Garlic Cheese Bread - Tasty and good. Â But I'd really recommend...
Parmesan Pretzels - These are consistently awesome. Â They make these pretzels with the same dough they make their pizzas with. Â (Their "Mellow" dough has a bit of molasses in it, which sounds odd but tastes AMAZING.) Â I'd highly recommend this with the Turbodog Cheese dip available at a slight up-charge. Â It's worth every penny. Â Try to save a little bit of sauce for your meal.
Pizzas:
(I'd go with the specialty pizzas if I were you.)
House Special: Â Their version of "supreme." Â (My wife never lets me get black olives. Â :-( ) Â Awesome.
Mighty Meaty: Â Their version of "meat lover's." Â This is probably my favorite pizza of the bunch. Â
I first want to try the philosopher's pie, and the red skin potato pie (basically a baked potato on a pizza.) Â I'll probably come back here and update when I do.
One last thing - Mellow Mushroom is actually a decent place to go if you want to count calories. Â Sure, since it's pizza, in general it's kind of a "splurge" place for a diet, but on their website, they have calorie counts for all of their dishes, including a per-slice breakout of all of their signature pizzas.
Anyhow, Mellow Mushroom is absolutely worth it. Â They have a loyal customer in me.
House Special Pizza and baked chicken wings were good. Â The wait staff is way too mellow (i.e. slow, mentally & physically).
Seriously, the manager should take the wait staff out for lunch to a good restaurant so they can see first hand what "good service" looks like. Â Maybe I'm a bit rough but I did see one server meticulously cleaning off a table, another miraculously cleaning the floor, and a third pacing back and forth with a towel. Â I guess they know what to do but they have their priorities a little mixed up. Â
Each of them walked past our table several times, none of them gave us a passing thought. Â Nothing, nada, bupkis. Â My wife and I got up after 10 minutes, went to the bar and ordered our food to-go. Â Crazy huh?
I was sad to see the Yucatan Taco Stand go, and to hear that another pizza joint was moving in. Â But I heard great things about MM so I of course had to try it out.. Â while the ambiance is a bit too "groovy" for me, the food, beer selection and service was great. Â I could easily over look the decor. Â Its definitely a casual spot so no need to over think your attire. Â As most places in Frisco are family friendly this place in no exception; we sat outside and dined with many families. Â And what's up with kids on the patio thinking its a race track? Â Maybe if we sat inside or in the bar area it would have been different?
The patio is covered and has quite a few tables, includes a small fire place and an old car that I forgot to peek in but I think it was a waitress station. Â The inside has several tables as well and a good bar with a handful of seats.
I went with a fairly large group from work and we sampled several different pizzas and all were outstanding..crunchy, buttery crust and fresh toppings. Â We tried: Mellowterranean, Funky Q. Chicken and the Gourmet White. Â I would recommend any of them. Â Â I do prefer thin crust pizza and this was not even close to thin but it was still really good and probably one of the better thicker crust pizza's I have had in the area.
They offer some interesting apps so I look forward to going back to try the mushroom soup or even those pretzels other yelpers are talking about!
Sunday night is not typically a busy dining out night in my experience, but we were surprised to find Mellow Mushroom literally packed. Â There was not a single table open both inside or outside at 6:00 PM. Â Upon entering, the host told us the wait was 15-20 minutes and we were sent to the bench with a pager. Â The time went by fast and we studied a paper menu so we would know what we wanted when we got seated.
Once at our table our waitress came over and took our drink order and by the time she came back with them we were ready to order. Â To start, I ordered mushroom soup and my husband a small order of pretzels. Â We decided to share a pepperoni pizza. Â Fast forward 45 minutes later and we still had nothing to eat. Â I started looking around and noticed that no other tables around us seemed to have food either. Â How hard is it to put soup in a bowl? Â
Our waitress finally came back over and apologized for the wait. Â She said something about the pretzels taking 20 minutes to cook. Â That would have been nice to know when we ordered them. Â Still we had waited MUCH longer than that already. Â When they finally came out, my husband inquired about my soup. Â She said that was also coming out shortly. Â We dug into the pretzels... they were hot and fresh and pretty tasty. Â A good sign since they use the same wheat dough for their pizza.
The soup came out 5 minutes later. Â At this point I could have done without it and just wanted our pizza. Â It didn't help that it wasn't very good. Â There were a few mushrooms sprinkled on top, but for the most part it looked and tasted like gravy. Â Definitely not like any mushroom soup I've ever had. Â I ate a few bites, but the bowl was pretty big (for just under $5). Â I would have preferred a cup in order to give it a try, but that wasn't offered. Â After another 20 minutes our pizza finally came out.
It was very hot, had plenty of toppings and was pretty tasty. Â They used a lot of red sauce, so if anything I would ask for less. Â It wasn't the best pizza in the world, but definitely not the worst. Â Just very middle of the road, but definitely not worth the very long wait. Â When we ordered, the waitress asked if we wanted ranch to go with it and we said yes. Â When the pizza came there was no ranch. Â Go figure and she never came back to check on us.
We had discussed sharing a desert also, but our waitress was MIA for quite some time and we just didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for a brownie, so we asked for the check.
It looks like a lot of money was spent on redecorating the space. Â It was kind of cool to see the chefs in the kitchen tossing the dough in the air and making pizza, but that got old given the long wait. Â I never saw the previous two tenants of this space so busy (Yucatan Taco Stand, Manuel's), so it will be interesting to see if this place survives in this location. Â It seems to have the kiss of death. Â We only went to each of those restaurants once each. Â It's just a very forgettable location.
I'm not going to say we'll never be back, but it will probably be quite awhile before we return. Â The food was decent. Â The prices were decent. Â Our total bill was $31 for a pizza, two drinks and two appetizers. They just really need to work on their service and the time it takes to get the food out.
We went today for opening day of the new Frisco location of this national chain. We've never been to one before, so all we had to go on were all the fans of it online.
It's very nicely decorated, psychedelic and colorful.
The staff was friendly and though they just opened it wasn't too chaotic.
As a beer drinker, I have to note the great beer selection with a lot of local and national microbrews on tap and decent prices for them.
We tried the mushroom soup, cheese bread and a small buffalo and Mediterranean pizza. The kids each had mac&cheese with apple slices and milk.
The mushroom soup was creamy and thick, with mushroom pieces and cheese sprinkled on top. It had a nice taste of mushrooms with a slight side taste of cheese. It's definitely worth trying and I'll definitely order it again when we return.
The cheese bread was good, too, and it was definitely enhanced by the beer cheese dip a server recommended.
The pizza is thick crust, made with whole wheat, and it was nice and doughy with just the right amount of crispness. Both the Mediterranean and the buffalo pizza were very good in their own way. Certainly not traditional pizza, but if you like this kind of specialty pizza, you' won't be disappointed.
It's a bit comparable to BJ's pizzas, but I have to say I prefer the pizza at Mellow Mushroom.
Service wise they still had some hiccups, but it was opening day so that's excusable.
We enjoyed ourselves and will be back.
