We're in Branson for the first time and staying not far from Mel's.  After reading the reviews we thought it sounded like fun. HOWEVER...if you have ever been to a diner before you don't need to go here. There are much better choices in the area. All the hype about singing; we arrived at 5:45 pm and were there for about an hour - no singing. The food, well if you don't mind $10 sandwiches that are much cheaper elsewhere and just as good, you might  feel this is OK. All I can say is we were very disappointed.
Review Source:We recently visited Branson  and had read about Mel's on the computer but they did not do it justice. The food was great both in quality and quantity; the atmosphere was as advertised; but what sets this place apart is the excellent singing wait staff. We went on our first day and were so impressed we went back for two more lunches. It's a no brainer . You get lunch and an awesome floor show. The best one in our mind was John Sager. What a voice-we bought two of his CD's and have listened to them almost everyday. Must Visit!!!!!!
Review Source:OK, I must admit, the kids and I were a little skeptical when my wife insisted we visit the Hard Luck Diner with its singing wait staff. Â I wasn't sure what to expect.
First, let me say that this is a traditional diner in terms of decor and menu. Â The food is good, with hefty size servings.
The thing setting this place apart is the singing waitstaff, but it isn't cheesy like I thought it would be. Â These are top notch singers singing crowd favorites, in between waiting tables. Â Our waiter, was actually an American Idol finalist (top 20). Â He was friendly and enjoyable to talk with, and he sounded great belting out his songs.
I stopped by Mel's Hard Luck Diner for an afternoon snack and had best onion rings I've ever had in my life.
The prices are very reasonable and the food is just regular diner food, but like Chad said, the thing that sets this place apart from all other diners is that the staff take turns singing.
Mel's is great place to stop by to grab a bite to eat and watch a show.
This is perhaps the best diner in Branson. Â The food is traditional diner food and is pretty good. Â The prices are extremely reasonable too.
However, the thing that sets this one apart from the others is that the waiters and waitresses sing songs in between (and sometimes during) serving the customers. Â The first time I came here, I didn't know about the live singing and I heard a Patsy Cline song playing and I couldn't believe that the waitress was singing it. Â It sounded just like Patsy.
