Metro Diner & Nightclub

Very cool, laid back gay bar in Kzoo.

If you're not familiar with Kalamazoo its a little hard to find, but its pretty close to Western's campus, a short drive away.

There is a well-lit entrance and there was parking in their lot and across the street.

When you enter you can choose to go to the 411 bar or to Metro... the kitchen/grill is in the center between the two.  Food is available until 11:30 or 12:00.

On the Metro side, there's a very large bar area, fairly well lit, with pool tables, tables to sit and eat/drink, and some cool old-time memorabilia, like highway signs and such.

The dance floor is toward the back in its own room.  Some WMU guys and all ages of people really, and a mix of guys and girls.  No one group dominates.

First impression was that its a friendly, non-intimidating, good place.  Its up-to-date and well kept and the music was current.

I think I agree with the other reviewer who said that Metro is the only good GLBT bar in this region.  The nearest places otherwise are probably Grand Rapids, Chicago, or Ann Arbor.  Nothing in northern Indiana or southwest Michigan compares.

I can't believe no one I know has rated this place yet.  Pretty much the only respectable LGBT friendly bar within a 30 mile radius. That being said it is not a "gay bar" per se...just caters to a lot of LGBT people. Best night to go is definitely Saturday when it usually gets pretty packed. Good food and decent drink specials. Awesome mix of people. Straight and gay alike. If you like people watching this is the place to go! Has a dance floor and great djs if you wanna get down and crazy and a little more chill side if you want to just chill. I also love the decor and that you can play old school nintendo while enjoying a drink.

I'd give this place a 5 but I have had some bad nights there not related to the bar itself but I just can't shake those nights off...and the bathrooms can get quite nasty on busy nights.

It's connected to a bar called 411 which caters to a toally different patronage. 411 is pretty cool on certain nights. It's a lot more chill and on Tuesdays they have karaoke.

**I should probably add that even though it is 18 and up DO NOT try to drink here if you are underage. They will find you. they have a certain set of skills. I have seen it happen many a time. also if you are underage and you appear to be drunk they will kick you out and may ban you. Just don't be an idiot and you'll be fine!
