Ingredients taste fresh & blend well.  For Mexican food, this is our only spot in town. We've tried a handful of other local Mexican restaurants, but only once each - a letdown after the bar set by Mi Cabañita.  Echoing other reviews, whatever the type of meat, it's quality and cooked perfectly.  Vegetables are always the appropriate texture - those sautéed are soft, fresh ones are crisp. Service is always friendly.
Review Source:Very friendly service and decent food. It was very natural and taste like home made mexican food so that was good.
I four tacos with the sour cream and cheese. I got one of carnitas, al pastor, barbacoa, and asada. They were decent but nothing extraordinary. However, like I said before the food tasted natural and it wasn't too greasy or anything so that's good in my book. Hopefully they more elaborated dishes are a little more out of the ordinary. I'll be going back to try more of their food in the near future so we'll see...
After reading the other reviews on here I was so excited to go eat here. Oh man, 5 stars!? This place had to be amazing!
Sad to say that it did not meet expectations. I ordered a bunch of tacos, Al Pastor, Azada and Pollo, plus gorditas. Overall it was decent. The Al Pastor (pork) was by far the best meat but all the others were bland. The steak had quite a bit of gristle and the chicken was dry. Nothing had a lot of flavor or tasted of restaurant quality. It was more like someone trying to replicate mexican dishes at home, and just didn't have the recipe correct. Even with the red and green sauces and lime and other toppings the tacos just lacked flavor and were quite boring.
Overall, it was a nice place with edible, passable, yet bland and unexciting food (who wants unexciting mexican food?) and I don't think I will ever return.
Tied-for-best Mexican in Lafayette.
As others have said, this is a very small, mostly carry-out, Mexican place on the South Side. Â It's less than a mile from my house, so my wife and I have visited "Mi Cab," as we call it, many, many times.
We usually get a bunch of tacos. Â They're very good, no matter what meat you get. Â We've also had their mojarra frita, taquitos, and probably a bunch of other stuff too.
When my wife was recovering from a nasty ankle break, I'd stop by on the way home and get us food; she insists Mi Cab's food helped her heal. Â I believe it.
The family running the place is super-friendly too; you really can't beat this place. :)
Though the location is nondescript, as the first reviewer noted, it IS clean and feels cozy once you sit down. The ice tea here is quite "different" (not black tea, but not sure what it IS?) and the best tea in town! The food is ABSOLUTELY authentic (the menu is nearly all in Spanish, for example), and it is family run, which I respect a lot! A dozen people would fill the space....it used to be a Chinese takeout! If you are looking for Mexican food to make your tummy happy, this IS the place!
Review Source:In all my time at Purdue, I could not find legit Mexican. Then there was Mi Cabanita.
If you want REAL Mexican in Lafayette, this is the place to go. There might be other places just as (or more) authentic-but come here if you don't know of any. If you think Little Mexico or places like it are legit, you got it wrong.
Get tacos.
Tacos, tacos, tacos. The Al Pastor (pork) is freaking amazing as is the azada/asada (steak).
Wow, not much to look at from the outside or the inside but the food is muy autentico! Definitely try the tacos al pastor and the cactus torta. They also serve Coca-Cola from Mexico (contains sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup) and some other Mexican sodas (sorry, I've forgotten the name). Don't be fooled afraid of the grungy location on Teal Road, Â this Mexican food is about the best in Lafayette!
