The tamales are good and one of the few places where I can buy sweet tamales. Â The downside - my partner in crime and I were shorted on the dozen we ordered! Â Wha??? Â I will say though that the tamales are pretty fat and not all because of the masa either. Â The fillings have very good flavor and the employees have been nice on my visits here.
Review Source:My wife and I had lunch. Tamales for me, Puffy Tacos for her.....the food was EXCELLENT! Tamales the best I've had in years, the sides, chili, avocado & queso perfect. Chips were thick like I like and hot sauce all from scratch. We will go back SOON with our Kids and Grand Kids! They will simply LOVE it. Ordered a dozen tamales to go after I tasted them.
Review Source:Mi Casa is a lot of things. It's a restaurant, a concert venue, a bar, and a very popular carry out eatery. Because I have never attended or had a drink, I will only be reviewing two of the four jobs things that Mi Casa does.
Mi Casa as a restaurant is a mixed bag. It's a tiny set up and the hours differentiate between the summer/winter. The service is slow, but I don't really think Mi Casa cares. They are transitioning more from a restaurant into a concert venue. When I had a sit down meal at this place, it was average. Their enchiladas were sub par but their tamales are excellent and that is how Mi Casa excels.
Mi Casa has the best tamales in San Antonio. They are reasonably priced, they have many different flavors and they are HUGE. The tamales are massive. I cannot stress this enough. Their salsa is also quite good making it a perfect match.
Strike 2! Â
Great place to have a beer and listen to music. Â I thought it was a restaurant, but I guess they don't have to serve good food when they have local bands play there.
My partner in crime and I went there on a slow friday evening. Â not a big crowd and I wanted to see a local hill country performer belt out a few tunes.
homemade chips....great
salsa....ok, but something off in taste
top shelf margarita....$8.50 with maybe a trickle of tequila?!!!
vodka press....you should know your in trouble when you have to explain to the bartender how to make this simple drink. Â $8.50!!! and they put on receipt that they used greygoose, I think not. Â It tasted like carbonated water and nothing else. Â
My lovely lady ordered tortilla soup, $5 for a small bowl...what she got was a bowl of peppers (red, green, jalapeno) and broth. Â Â No chicken or tortillas or flavor for that matter.
And alas, I didn't get a chance to finish listening to the Josh Peek band play due to the fact that while we were sitting at the picnic tables listening to him perform, Â we caught a whiff of something horrible (and no, not the food). Â As we cautiously looked to our left, we see a small river of raw sewage heading towards the band and trickling by our table coming from a ruptured main. Â We immediately ran to the other side of the property (about 60 yards) to get away from the stench and try to listen to the music. Â It was too much, the fumes were starting to permeate into our clothes so we bailed.
Don't go their for their food or drink (unless you get a $2 lonestar), go for the music. Â hope they got their potty problems solved. Â ugh
haven't gotten the chance to actually try the food but I recently attended a Cory Morrow show there and Mi Casa has quite the set up! I was so excited to see Boerne moving on up! it is just what Boerne needed, no more driving 30-45mins to go dancing. too bad they weren't open in high school for us.
their calendar of bands is impressive, I plan to return very soon and maybe even eat this time as well :)
i drive by this place pretty much EVERY day. Let me just say, if you attend during live music time...plan on parking a mile away (a little dramatic, i admit). Really they usually have a decent crowd any other time which is good-i'm glad that this place is doing well. That being said, here is my opinion because, well, what else is yelping aboot?
Dear Mi Casa,
i did visit once (quite awhile back) and enjoyed the overall ambience/outdoor seating as well as the service. At the time, i did not enjoy only being able to choose between pork, pork or pork tamales. i cannot partake of the pig and therefore was left to ordering your enchilada plate which was ok. Not horrible, not great...okay. Â i have looked on the website since and have seen this has changed-you now offer more variety. This is a very good thing, b/c i SO wanted to like (maybe even love) you! No worries, i will come by soon (probably not during crazy live music time) and i have high hopes that i will be pleased. I'm almost sure i will :)
Be well,
