Great place for late night dancing on the bar side and it perhaps my favorite place to go in terms of crowd and service as far as bars go.  I've never been where it has been too crowded to enjoy my time there and they have two pool tables there and a lot of seating. They have trivia on Tuesdays which  is great and happy hour specials during the week.

The DJ can be ok at times and the bathroom lines get crazy ridiculous on weekend night.

Overall mid town is my favorite place and this is just one of the few bars that makes it that way! I have no experience eating here but those late saturday nights are always fun! Good bartenders, good choice of drafts, and always a good crowd! I would definitely come back here and recommend it for anyone looking to have a good time on a saturday night!

Love the drunken tots and boiled peanuts. The red rooster wings were amazing --  a mix of spicy and sweet. The outdoor patio was great and the perfect place to go with friends after a long work day. Service was good and the staff was friendly.

The crowd isn't really my style, so I don't end up here very often, but I like the decorations and the corn-hole room. The drink prices are a little high, but you can always just get a pbr tallboy if you're feeling poor. My favorite part about this place is the BOILED PEANUTS on the late night menu. yuuuuuum

Great restaurant and great nightlife spot too! This is one of those places that make Tallahassee feel a little more hip than usual. The restaurant features a new, fun, trendy menu with good food. The bar is a great place to grab drinks, dance and/or hangout, especially weekend nights. A good mix of people too, and the 21+ rule makes it a little more enjoyable than the typical FSU bars.

Pretty much everything on the menu is at least above average, and many items are excellent.  Hard to go wrong for dinner or late night eating.  I've tried the sandwiches, fish tacos, salads, and flatbread pizza.  The wait staff is always friendly, but sometimes you need to be bit patient if they're busy.  Pretty good beer selection that goes well with the food.  Best thing on the menu are the sweet potato fries with tomato jam.  I recommend ordering a basket of them the moment you sit down.

OK I must say that I need to visit this place again. I only went here a few weeks ago before graduation for an appetizer and a few drinks. We indulged on the drunken tots which were perfectly crispy and drowning in beer cheese, bacon and scallions. What is not to love?! The service was fantastic and the prices and location were great. I foresee visiting this place numerous times throughout the upcoming football season when we visit Tallahassee next! If you are in Tallahassee and want something good, conveniently located,  not a giant chain restaurant, great service, and affordable, GO HERE! Yum.

First of all - get the Drunken Tater Tots and don't expect to have any left to take home. They just kind of keep on disappearing from the plate.

Nice location with very attentive waitstaff. Our waitress was very good and didn't miss a beat. My wife and I both had Cheeseburgers, mine with bacon, and they were great. Our son had the Goliath Burger which he said was excellent. This was graduation weekend and the place was hopping but we didn't wait long for our meals. They have a pretty decent selection of IPAs as well.

Great place for a casual meal.

Good food, good people, funky location with good drafts and full liquor set-up.
Jumbo Fisher Tacos-good salsa was a little to smoky but overall awesome.  Also had the tater tots, normal nothing mind blowing.  Go for the overall location, staff and cool menu items. Also you can bring your dog!  Tip: Go to the bar side

I recently returned to Midtown Filling Station for the first time in about a year and was really pleasantly surprised! Not only was the food as great as ever (OMG, the lamb sliders and drunken tots...) but the service was wonderful, the food came out quickly, and the decor has been improved. And we thoroughly enjoyed the draft beer and cider for only $3! Will definitely be stopping by again soon.

there is someone posting fake reviews on here. they removed one that was definantly fake. claiming there credit card was declined. the fillingstation has a atm. this was a lie. after a responded to it they removed the review. there is definanntly someone posting bad reviews most likely from a competitor. i know cause i called them out and they removed there posting. saying they would never come back. competing restaurants in town do this to other business all the time in this town. super rediculous.

After our daughters graduation dinner we decided to meet up with a few of her friends at Midtown.  We got here earlier than the rest of the party so we came to the filling station to start.  The decor is cool with a very long bar right when you walk in.  Then you have a back room with pool tables and another room with couches, tables and TVs.

I hear the food is pretty good but we only had drinks since we had gone to dinner already.  I really enjoyed the atmosphere here, everyone was cool, music was great, and we had the sweetest waitress.  I had been drinking wine all night and wanted to stick with the juicy goodness. The waitress mentioned to me that they had wine splits.  Music to my ears, hey nothing fancy but I was just happy I could have a small bottle of wine.

We found a comfy couch, where my father in law was very happy to be comfortable, he enjoyed this bar as well.

Our waitress kept checking on us, pouring the rest of my wine, she was excellent!  The age group here is mid to upper 20's, which was very nice instead of say the strip. Very nice bar that is worth checking out.  This strip has three other bars so heck check them all out.....we did..... Was a fun evening!

Just came here to drink.  The staff was friendly and prices average.

    Maybe 3.5 stars?

The food is good. My friends and I were obsessed with the drunken taters, which is a flavorful dish of tater tots smothered in cheese, bacon bits, and green onions. The dang hippie sandwich, hummus, mac&cheese, and romaine salad were good too. The downside is that the place is pretty pricey for Tallahassee.

Definitely a place you should try, but there were some problems with Midtown Filling Station. My second and third times there, their fryer was out so we couldn't order the taters. My last visit there, they told me their kegs had blown out, so we could only get bottled beers. Le sigh.

Overall, it's a cool place for dinner. I don't know what it's like after 9pm, but it seems to be crowded whenever I drive by.

What a difficult place to review-- lots of good and bad things happening.

FOOD: I really like the food-- the boiled peanuts (different everyday) are very good, and the "drunken taters" (tater tots with a beer reduction) are great.  The burgers and sandwiches are very good...  BUT, I think the food costs about 20% more than it should be.  Everything is al la carte.

SERVICE: Service is friendly, but poor.  Even when not crowded, it is super slow and they don't check in often.

ATMOSPHERE: Casual.  Feels like the restaurant isn't quite finished.  Some old gas pumps on the wall, but that's about it.

IN SUM, I like the food a lot, but it's overpriced and the service is poor.

I LOVED this place when it first opened.  It had GREAT sandwiches and really good mac and cheese.  Now they changed their menu and reduced it drastically, getting rid of all my favorite things.  :(  Time to reconsider this new menu!

Yummy food, great atmosphere and good drinks!

We ordered the FANTASTIC boiled peanuts, pickle plate, Jumbo Fisher Tacos and the Dang Hippie. I was so impressed, I couldn't wait to go back!

The Jumbo Fisher Tacos were the best fish tacos I've had since I was out West. YOU MUST ORDER THEM!

Went to MTFS for lunch yesterday and it was a great dining experience. We had a large group and our food came promptly and well cooked. Having a small child with us and no "child's menu" , the waitress said it would be no problem to make something to accommadate a severn year old's tastes, which ended up being cheese pizza (with a grown up's twist), which she absolutely loved!  We started with the drunken taters, and I not being a tater tot fan, was blown away at their scrumptiousness!  One of our diner's ordered a watermelon salad that was filled with unique flavors and quirks that made it not the ordinary salad.  My nephew orderd the Train Wreck and that was a monstrous sandwich! Good one to share and never have I seen a sandwich so packed with meat!  I shared an order of the Bobo's Benedict....wow.  That was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in my life!  Six of us shared an order of sweet potato fries. There was plenty for everyone and we loved how they were sliced so thin and crisp and flavorful. The decor is fun and unique, but definitely clean and the whole place had a good feel about it.I hope to be able to check out MTFS again someday and would recommend it to anyone!

Fantastic place if you want to see steroid-infused guys in graphic tees get into a fight.

Also, the decor is just weird. Hmm, "gastropub? That means cars, right? What do cars drink? Oil! Let's put a bunch of rusty oil cans on the wall!"
And the license plates on the leather stools and "random" stickers everywhere are just silly. I get the idea, and I suppose I see the appeal, but I just don't care to participate.

The staff is attentive and nice, the drinks fine, and I hear the food is fantastic, but the atmosphere is so silly that I can't bring myself to actually go in again.

Don't get me wrong, it's not so bad that I wouldn't go if invited, and if this is your sort of scene, you can have a great time, but there are much more pleasant places to go if you're not looking for an overgrown frat party.

    I miss the Winery :(

    UPDATE:
I've been here a few more times since originally posting this review, and I've sort of come to accept the MTFS for what it is. If you can get over the silliness, and don't mind crowds, it's actually pretty good at what it does (bringing together drunks).
    However,
BE WARNED: they will try to overcharge you. They raise prices on the weekends. And don't forget to CLOSE YOUR TAB. I learned this lesson the hard way when they tacked on 200% to my open tab. This happened more than once.

    Love it Love it all!

First the decor was fun and hip. Everything was chosen with such care that it really added to the whole experience. The parking was easy and getting a table was no problem. Plus all the staff were friendly and helpful.

The food was amazing. I went with three other people and not a single think was less then amazing! You have to try the "appetizer" (practically a whole meal!) scallops with gnocchi. Soooo good. I had the "dang hippie" with the sweet potato fries (must have!). It was simply incredible.

They also do amazing fish dishes there and a tremendous salad. Totally recommend anything on the meal! Great for a night out and afterwords there is a awesome "nightclub" on the other side that does live music and drinks most nights called the Tap Room. It makes for a great evening!

Boy, the reviews for this place are all over the map. That said, the entire Fat Guys crew decided this would be our destination for the week. How did the restaurant fare? As information, we arrived at 5:30 to an almost empty room. Regular customers will know that this is way early, and as the evening progressed the room filled. That said...

Service - overall good, but on the slower side, but friendly and knowledgeable.

The kitchen is open to the dining area. A former restrauteur, I like being able to see the cooking crew in action. It lets me get a sense of the professionalism (or lack thereof) of what's usually the back of the house out of view operation. MTFS crew looks like they're on the ball, with orders delivered to the servers without the usual calling out. And the place is clean, one of the first things I look for. A dirty dining area will tell you the state of the kitchen.

Food - half the crew arrived early, and since I'm a pickle addict, that Pickle Plate looked good. Although it didn't have t he menu listed olives, it was generous in portion with gherkins, carrots, red onion, garlic, jalapenos, and pickled okra. Don't let the okra put you off -- it's delish. The pickles have a slow building spice burn that my partner wasn't fond of (too spicy) but it was to my taste. I could have done two orders and called it a night, but that wouldn't do for a review.

The other Fat Guys team members arrived, and we placed our order. Cheeseburger, French Dip, Jumbo Fisher Tacos, and my Dang Hippie. The Dang Hippie is, indeed, a weird choice for me, a confirmed carnivore, but once in a while one has to at least attempt healthy.

The cheeseburger presented well, and FAG pronounced it quite good. It was done as requested, and arrived at serving temperature. Why is this important? Lately we've had a rash of entrees being delivered at varying temperatures, from screaming just off the grill hot, to "did this just come out of the fridge" chilled. This happens when entrees of with different cooking times are started at the same time - the short timers come off and sit and wait, and wait, and...for the long cooking items. A good cook/chef will adjust start times to compensate. A hack cook won't, because it demands some thinking and effort.

The French Dip was judged very good, though "messy." A minor issue that could be remedied by scooping out a bit of the bread to make space for the filling, but part of a French Dip experience is messy. Makes it inelegant to eat, though.

The Jumbo Fisher Tacos were a highlight. Blackened mahi was seasoned just right, and the smoked tomato added a slightly acidic bite tempered by the avocado crema. Spanish slaw was well flavored, and complimented the tacos well.

My Dang Hippie - a combination of fried eggplant, sprouts, hummus, feta, red onion, and tomato was quite good -- I'd order this again. Menu promised Greek dressing was light and an excellent complimentary taste, though not overwhelmingly Greek.

Each entree was garnished with a small serving of those spicy pickles. If that's not to your liking, sweet a small variety of sides is on offer - fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots, pita chips.

The vibe is quirky, but isn't that a good thing in this age of cookie cutter chain stores? I don't go to restaurants for the decor, though a pleasant setting is nice, and MTFS fills that for me. The crowd is diverse - young, old, tattoos, business casual, jeans -- really relaxing.

We recommend trying Midtown Filling Station. If our experience was typical, you can't go wrong.

So, boyfriend and I checked this bar out the other night.  Some brief thoughts, in bullet format:

*The behind-the-bar waitstaff are pretty cool.  Best part of the bar.  Good service and full of dark sarcastic humor (in other words, just the way I like them).  I'd give them a five.

*The food is about a three.  It doesn't have the style or creativity of a Custers/KoolBeanz/Sage, but for Tallahassee, it's okay.  Boyfriend ordered the fish tacos, which were good (nothing spectacular, just good); I had a salad which was the clone of salads served around the U.S. in places like TGI Fridays and/or Applebees.  So...it isn't bad, but it's also nothing special, and it certainly doesn't fit the term "gastropub."

*The atmosphere, frankly, is just weird.  The bar is the former Red Bar, and it is as if the new owners just slapped up a few license plates and rock posters on the stools/ceiling, and called it a day.

I'll be blunt...one of the biggest parts of a bar is the atmosphere, and I don't care for what the new owners have done here.  The red bar had a decent chill vibe, whereas this strives to be warmer and more casual, and fails miserably.   I give it a 2.

I don't know if we'll be back, there are definitely better options in Tally these days.  If the FIlling Station wants to survive in a town where you can't swing a cat without hitting another bar option, they're probably going ot have to step up their game.  I give it 3 stars overall.

okay, I have only been here once. I ate lunch outside and never went inside. However, I am giving it five stars on the Southwest Burger alone! It was awesome! awesome! awesome!.   I tried the boild peanuts and the special flavor was wonderful and unique, but the peanuts were awful. When your this close to peanut country, get fresh green georgia runners for boild peanuts not the frozen garbage you get elsewhere.
If your in the area try this burger.

I dint' know if it's because I had such a horrible service experience at Kool Beanz or if this place is just that good. Tallahassee is lucky to have a place like this in my opinion. It would be a trendy Gastropub pick if it was in Atlanta. Maybe you have to be Farm to Table to be trendy in Atlanta now though. Long story short... you could set this place down in the middle of Buckhead, Virginia Highlands, or L5P and it would be wall to wall full of people.

    Great interior decor.

The fries were amazing. Shoestring fries. Crispy and hot.

    Waitress was fantastic.

Bobbos Benedict was an amazing sandwhich.

Will definitely be back the next time I am in Tallahassee.

Really good coffee shop close by also.

    I'm giving it a 5.

(this is part 2/2 covering food...scroll down for part 1/2 on bar/atmosphere)

As far as the food goes, it's actually pretty decent. I've eaten here 9 or 10 times now although as mentioned have never been able to do so in the bar side on account of timing, only the restaurant for lunch or dinner. The lunch and dinner menus are more or less the same with a few items being designated as only available for lunch, or dinner and/or late night. It's actually pretty cryptic the way they decided to mark that on the menu with little sun/moon icons and might take you a few trips to figure out what you can or can't order at a specific time of day (how they didn't fix that the first week...).

Unlike the rave reviews I've seen and heard for the Southwest Burger my two experiences with it have been a letdown. Par for the course in Tallahassee people's standards for a good burger in this town seem to be set exceptionally low. While I agree that along with Monk's and Bird's Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack this IS one of the better meat patties you can find in Tally, it's still very "meh" (but so is Bird's and Monk's...if you like those, you'll like this). The bun is too much for the burger to handle and mine was cooked med-well to well both times when requested "bloody rare." The cheese wasn't melted which is a petty gripe but an absolute requirement in my book. The tomato jam is pretty good (slightly smoked, nice touch) and I've had two different types of ketchup with it that weren't special but appreciated none the less. The Roasted Poblano Mac & Cheese has been my only other disappoinment foodwise, proving to be exceptionally bland and sans-poblano. Roasted pepper macaroni and cheese screams for a robust, sharp cheese like an English cheddar or Swiss gruyère, one of the simple tenets of this now trendy dish, and this one has neither. It's mild, boring and lacking any poblano flavor. It has a little kick to it but most likely from cayenne. This thing needs to have some flecks of actual torn peppers in it and a much stronger cheese.

The Jumbo Fisher Tacos are hands down my favorite menu item and the best of their ilk in town, though the name is a little clunky and completely lost on anyone that doesn't follow FSU football closely. Three come to an order with a nicely cooked flakey white fish (probably tilapia), the aforementioned smoked tomato jam and a slaw that contributes just the right amount of acid. The problem of course is that you can't get them "late night" when you would most want them. Same goes for the delicious flatbreads which are essentially a thin-crust personal size pizza, my preference being for the muffaletta version (olive relish, salami, ham, etc.). THIS is the kind of food I want to come here and eat at 12am. Not peanuts. Not hummus. Wtf.

Gripes aside, bottom line is that I dig the place much more than when it was The Winery / Tapas and tend to stop by twice or so a week. It's centrally located, hosts a nice-sized crowd and puts out some tasty eats, if you get there early enough to enjoy them. If you're looking for a gastropub though, search elsewhere, this isn't it. Maybe try the Ravenous Pig in Orlando...

The Filling Station is an awesome place to eat and drink thats not to up tight like some of the other mid town bars. the food is amazing, all the  sandwiches i've had have been worth talking about. the bar tenders are nice and get you your drinks fast.

We've been here a few times already.  Every single time we've had a great meal.  I recommend the Jive Turkey and Dang Hippie sandwiches.  My husband fell in love with the Southwest burger.  He said it's one of the best burgers he has had.  You can't go wrong with the boiled peanut of the day.  I suggest sitting outside now that the weather is nice.  I've had great service each time I've been there except for once, but I blame that on being a Friday night.
