Beware: WIFI ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE LOBBY AND POOL AREA!
I booked this hotel from http://booking.com because it was stated "free wifi in all areas" plus they allowed to have 4 people in the room without charging much extra and it came with free breakfast as well. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I was told that wifi ONLY works in the Lobby and Pool area. The guy said, "Don't ask me why it only works in the pool and the lobby, I have no idea". Bummer! Very disappointed indeed, but at 3am, I just needed a place to crash and complained later.
The room was just whatever and the AC kept making noises every night. It felt like the thing could just come down from the wall at any time. The bed was alright, pretty firm, but we found an almond on top of the bed sheet when we checked in. Fortunately, the bed were all clean, we thoroughly check it before we sleep on it.
It's located one hour away from Yosemite National Park entrance and I chose this place because compared to other cities nearby, this is the only one with great food options. However, if you intend to spend more than a day at Yosemite, I wouldn't recommend this place as it's too far away from the entrance and the road is only 2 lanes, 1 in and 1 out. The motel offers a bus to get you to Yosemite for $12/pp roundtrip, but it takes 2 hours each way, pretty crazy.
All in all, this place was bang on budget. The breakfast options were pretty good as well, so I'm one pretty satisfied customer, other than that AC noise issue.
First of all, this place is now called the 140 Roadhouse or something like that. Â We've eaten there many times over the past 8 years. Â It was never anything to write home about, but the meals were better than cooking at home on a hot night. Â I understand that the ownership has recently changed, and apparently this hasn't been a good thing for customers. Â
We ate there last night and were shocked to see the difference. Â The hamburger steak (and I use the term loosely) was no more than 1/8 inch thick. Â It appeared to be the kind that is frozen. Â It was burned, to boot. Â My hamburger meat was the same. Â Only 3 salad dressings are now offered, so if you want Italian, forget about it.
On top of it, our waitress was snippy; chastised me when I ordered something that had been partially crossed off the menu: Â You obviously didn't read the menu very well!" Â
With so many good restaurants in Mariposa, there is no need to pay big money for crappy food and nastiness from the waitress.
Never again, Miner's Inn. Â You've seen the last of us.
Last night we had the unfortunate experience of eating at Miner's Inn. Â We have been there several times throughout the past 10 years and it as always been "just okay", but last night was awful. Â Several of the people in our party had hamburgers and I swear they were worse than Burger King burgers. Â You could practically see through the patty. Â There was only one waitress in the place and she was tired to say the least. Â It was not cheap either. Â
Mariposa might not have many restaurants, but if you are visiting please try Sugar Pine or Savorys.
Stopped in for bite on the way to yosemite. good greeting, nice server, old school decor, but cool. place seemed clean. Food was tasty. I had (hard to screw up) spaghetti and meatballs with really fresh veggies. Food came out in plenty of time, and was overall pretty decent, The other people i was with, were pleased with their food too.
Review Source:We stayed there on our trip to Yosemite, and it was a very nice hotel. The people were nice, and they helped us get a quiet room because we are light sleepers. The room is nice, with a balcony in the back, and the front door facing a parking lot. The breakfast was great, there was so much food to choose from, and you can even make your own pancakes.
This location is not too far away from Yosemite. The price is great too, Â much cheaper than if you stayed inside the park.
Just returned from Mariposa. We asked the locals for a good place to eat and they suggested the "Miner's Inn Restaurant & Lounge. We wanted a more casual place to eat.
We were seated quickly and got our drinks promptly. Â First we noticed the prices. $9.95 for salads, $13.99 (I think) for pasta. We waited about 20 minutes without being served. My husband had to ask for someone to take our order. Â My husband and I both ordered the Mediteranean Chicken for $16.99. There were more expensive dishes but I didn't want to spend so much.
Dinner includes a trip to the soup/salad bar, bread, two side dishes. We asked for rice pilaf and steamed vegetales besides our chicken. Â I had the vegetable soup which tasted watered down. No flavor.
The bread they gave us was warm (the highlight of the meal).
The meal we got was nothing fancy. Â Vegetables tasted like frozen vegetables, the rice "pilaf" was salty. The chicken was greasy and served with a weird tasting sauce.
I ate what I could but was disgusted. Why so much for an at best plain meal with awful service?
We'll never eat here again.
Should have gone here

Everything about this small town homey restaurant is good. Good menu, good food good service with a smile and timing. Went the exta mile which you don't see often in downtown places. The next time I go to Yosemite Park I will make it a point to visit again. Did I mention the cocktail. Just the way I ordered it and like it.
Review Source:4 of us went for breakfast. Â Potato Benedict was large with homemade sauce. Pancakes with mixed berries was lovely and flavorful. The berries tastes fresh. Machaca, which was eggs scrambled with ortega chilies, cheese, onions and tomatoes, was served with a large flour tortilla was big enough for two. Â
The decor is funny, moutain kitchy, with statues out side that look like they were carved from the local trees some time ago. Â
In all, we were very pleased.
The food was good, nothing spectacular. Â Service was a bit slow as they seemed to converse with the regulars. Â I ordered the hamburger steak which came with grilled onions and mushroom suace and battered fires and a small salad. Â The steak was quite good, crispy charred outside and not dry. Â The salad came from the salad bar and the plate was too small for a decent salad. Â My bf had the chicken fried steak with onion rings. Â The OR was standard frozen fare, but were decent. Â The chicken fried steak had a nice beefy flavor and the breading was not overly thick or overpowering the steak. Â Gravy was a bit bland. Â Prices were ok for a small touristy town.
Review Source:Always stop and eat here at least one night when I am visiting on the weekends. They have a really good prime rib. If you go on the weekends especially during high tourist months May-October expect a long wait after 6pm. Go early like the locals do and enjoy your dinner without a hoard of people waiting in the lobby area watching you eat.
For a touristy place, they have decent prices and large portions of food. Have only eaten dinner here .
Stayed in Mariposa for a few nights in February and this is the ONLY place in town that even serves booze, more so one of the few places around that was open during the winter months.
Good thing is really COOL bartenders that poured a great drink. Seemed like family in there - everyone knew each other and were cool to us knowing that we were just visiting.
Cannot go wrong here.
Ok, I read all the other reviews. I feel I am qualified cuz i have eaten here 7 times, each time on a Valley trip.
I have had chicken, steak, and mosre famously, the potato encrusted fish. I had a breakfast with hollandaise over hashbrowns that really was top notch. The service is excellent each time, a little slow cuz they are actually cooking all of it from scratch.
These guys do all things potato and they do them right. Be it the standard french fries, hash browns, their potato spirals or just baked, it is all Yukon Gold and it is all excellent.
All the other amenities sucha s clean restrooms, nice tables and booths, salad bar, etc, all all 4 star plus. The Exact replica of the original Yosemite railroad circling above is an added attraction, and the placards inder the glass table tops give area history.
A bit hard to spot, cuz it is located above the main road and just has some unattractive yellow restaurant sign, the Miner's sign is hidden in the trees. Go anyway!! Bottom line, a great eating experience.
On the 140 out of Yosemite, there's a desert of food joints and the Miners Inn Restaurant is an oasis! Â We did a 30 mile backpacking trip and were ready to grub on some major calories. This place caught our eye.
The hostess and server were both extremely nice and accomodating (we were just past the 11 am breakfast menu posted cut off but let us order from it anyway). Food was standard fare but hot and tasty. I went for the country breakfast (biscuits!) and my husband got the chicken fried steak, nicely seasoned and tasted homemade.
I would give it four stars but have to account for the fact that this was our first non-rehydrated meal in 36 hours so that may have warped my judgement a bit. Â Will certainly keep this on our map as a pit stop after our next outdoor adventure.
Ate here over Spring Break and I really enjoyed the local atmosphere and home cooking. I started off with a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - mmmmmm and ordered the liver and onions. It was unique that the liver was topped with fried bacon strips along with onions and also had brown gravy on the side. The fried chicken was crispy and moist without being greasy.
Each plate was accompanied byu a trip to the salad bar which was nicely stocked with everything from lettuce to cole slaw to olives and baby corn. This may not be the fanciest restaurant in town, but the food was solid and the service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant was being frequented by locals and I did not see any other tourists there besides myself.
Since there isn't much in Mariposa and there was a labor day parade through the main street so the road to all the foods was closed... We decided to eat at the motel restauarant. And I'm so glad
I did!!
The service was quick and friendly. I got my coffee and my cup was never empty. I was able to take my time and chat it up with a friend I haven't seen in a long while...and I was never rushed from the waitress which is always nice. But it also could have been because it wasn't so crowded.
I looked on the breakfast menu and saw they had a bacon breakfast burrito...so thats what I went for. I feel so lucky that I picked this item because it was so good!! It was pretty much the most perfect breakfast burrito I've had in awhile!!

I loved it! I loved it! I loved it! Would take a 6 hour drive for this breakfast burrito ?? Hell yeah...road trip to yosemite anyone??
Very underwhelming from the service to the food. Â The servers were more focused on what passes for teen co-worker drama in Mariposa than in being attentive servers.
I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. Â Mistake. Â As the name of the dish suggests, it should by fried with a nice crisp exterior. Â I'm confident that i actually was served Chicken Microwaved Steak. Â No crisp. Â Just nasty rubbery meat that would shame even a grade school cafeteria. Â On the postivie side the fries were crisp and i could dip them in the gravy, close my eyes and pretend i was in Montreal.
We dined at this restaurant as we were staying at Miners Inn and the restaurant was a short stroll across from out hotel room.
It was quite quaint with fun features like a little train which travels round on a little track.
The food is American diner fare with volume being the main attraction. Most main dishes come with soup and salad. The food was nice without being special. Between us, we had meatlof, a burger and steak.
Nice also to see s seniors' menu with reduced cost!
Filled a spot and no need to walk too far!
The HOTEL next door is fabulous! It's a shame they have this crummy place on the same property.
I was staying at the hotel and strolled over to get a take out dinner. I decided to get the ten dollar "Jumbo Prawn" dinner. The cashier rang up $17 plus! When I pointed it out, she said she thought I wanted their SIX prawn dinner for $16 something. I said, "No--this is what I pointed out to you and that's what I want!"
"But you'll get TWO extra prawns with the regular dinner!" she exclaimed.
SIX dollars more for two extra prawns? I don't think so!
After a bit of debate, she finally relented and let me have the cheaper dinner. It was actually fairly irritating--I was famished and just wanted to order something they had printed on their menu!
I took my meal back to my hotel room, only to discover they had omitted the salad and had not included BUTTER for the baked potato! I was too burnt out to go back and make a scene, so I just ate as is (was).
My four prawns were pretty much what we call "shrimp" around these parts! The potato wasn't all that tasty without butter (they DID give me a container of chives, go figure!.There included a half ounce of blase vegetables. Even for ten dollars, this meal was a rip!
Luckily, Miner's INN has a very cool store with lots of goodies, including an amazing variety of wine! So I visited the store later and got a Snickers bar and a bottle of vino to fill my tummy instead.
Mariposa is a beautiful little city and has many restaurants. Lesson learned! Next time, I won't be so lazy, and I will visit another eatery.
I haven't been to this place in probably 17 years since
i was a little kid visiting my grandparents.
My sister and i decided to stop into the lounge/bar for a drink after a long car ride from San Francisco.
It was 2:30pm on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was popping. Full of old men wearing cowboy hats and cowboy boots drinking Coors
Light. Good times. The bartender has an astrology book and you can look up your actual birthday and get tripped out that it is spot on, There also seemed to be a continual game of dice being played at the bar by old high school love interests. Exactly as expected at this type of place.
Minus the few, "where you girls from?? You heading to Yosemite?" comments, this is a very intertesting mountain cowboy bar. If you're into that sort of thing!!
Oh and beers and topshelf drinks are $4. Party!
