This is one of those places that totally surprises you. We walked in just looking to grab a quick burger. It has a very dive bar atmosphere with some of the friendly service I have ever had. The owner was on staff and making his rounds all while backing the bar and helping serve food. Really great local feel to this restaurant. If you were in the area I highly recommend you stop by and grab a great burger, see some friendly faces, drink a good beer and have a great time.
Review Source:I wasn't sure what to expect when we stopped by for lunch on Saturday.  I suppose mostly grunge, but was relieved to see it was only slightly worn, but clean.  The place is split into two sections, one a traditional bar area and the other brighter and airy.  There were dartboards and a pool table, and quite a few flat panel TVS broadcasting  various sporting events. Â
We were apparently the first customers of the day and got our choice of seating offered by Helen, the inimitable barkeep. Â (Just imagine Kathy Bates a la Harry's Law and you'll get the picture. Â For an extra laugh put Jim Parsons/Sheldon Cooper in my husband's place and consider the interaction that might occur between them, because that's pretty much accurate.) Â
I got the appetizer sampler, I think they called it a miner munchie platter? Â It was decent, though I wasn't impressed with the fries, but I lean towards crunchy and salty fries. Â The coating on the onion rings and the chicken was the perfect combination of cohesiveness and crunch. Â Hubby got the cheeseburger and inhaled it, so no complaints there. Â We later found out they regularly offered buffalo burgers (the meat, not the sauce), so we plan to go back and try those!
There seems to be at least three entrances to this place, I saw at least two people come in through the back. Â We decided it was too early to drink, but had places to be later on, so we'll just have to come back.
I can't believe that this is the same place that I came to five years ago when I moved here. Â
Miner's walks the fine line of dive bar, and a place that is comfortable and fun to eat and drink in. Â
I have to admit, there were times that I felt like I was cleaning the floors when I walked on them there, but over the years there has been substantial growth in the quality of Miners. Â They have a pretty decent tap selection right now, the best in Erie, and a full bar to back it up. Â They have food that is actually pretty decent. Â I had a great burger there, and really good fries. Â I was very impressed.
They have lots of TVs, shuffleboard, and a pool table. Â They even have live music sometimes.
The owner is frequently there, and seems to genuinely care. Â
I am a fan of Miners, and especially when you compare it to other places in the area which are terrible, like Parkway, that place is horrible.
I had a blast last time I was there, and look forward to going back soon.
We are now regulars st Miner's. Â They're daily special, usually a burger, fries and a draft beer, is reasonably priced at $7.95. Â The burger is really great. Â I asked the owner, Lee, about it and he said their meat is bought locally, so it is fresh. Â They have several micro brews on tap, with daily happy hour and ladies night specials. Â Even though they are referred to as a tavern, it is family friendly, with a lower level seating area away from the bar with a few games. Â
My husband and I found that they will often serve free food during ball games, like Red Beans n Rice during the championship game (LSU-Bama), and last weekend when we picked up a to-go order of wings (really good by the way, they were getting ready to put out spaghetti. Â
A few months back I decided to have my hysband's surprise bday party at Miner's. Â Lee was super agreeable and worked with me on the menu and pricing, and didn't have a problem at all with me bringing a cake in.
Admittedly, when we first moved to Erie we were a little wary of the place, as it used to have a rough reputation.....I think it's been around since the 20's. Â Yes, when you walk in everyone in the place gives a look, but they are all nice, local folk. Â And Helen, the waitress who got her training from Seinfeld's Soup Nazi, scared the pants off me the first time I ordered. Â I've come to really like her gruff and forthright personality. Â She'll be the first to tell you she's been bartending for decades, and honestly, she makes a mighty good mixed drink.
I look forward to spring, when the back patio will be open. Â We really enjoyed a beer tasting they held out back with Odell, a local brewery.. Their 90 Shilling is on tap. Â And, lastly, I like their beer prices. Â It chaps me to pay $6 or more for a beer...anywhere. Â Miners offers them for around $3.50. Â That's my kind of deal.
+'s = great food at a great value. -'s = limited menu (due to the kitchen size)
