Love this place. Not necessarily quiet but great for anything. Lunch with the girls, Couples dinner. Small group. Â Menu has something for everyone. And I love every effort to keep things fresh and healthy. They do a great job with local fare and the staff has always been great. They strike a great balance between keeping it real and being in the cutting edge.
Review Source:First time here. Â Much better than expected based on other reviews. Â But this is not a Manhattan steakhouse. Â Very high prices for a neighborhood restaurant. Â Over $40 for a veal chop..., I don't think so. Â And most entrees are over $30.00. Â Nice portions, though. Â And an appetizer in most restaurants is $10 or LESS, here average is $12. Â Food is excellent; service is above average. Â But when busy, it can be difficult to get help. Â And a restaurant of this "wanna be" quality, the bus staff needs to understand, if not speak, English. Â Trying to get more bread meant that basket was removed along with bread plates and butter. Â All needed to be replaced and that took two attempts given lack of English and needed waiter's involvement. Â OK, so I'm being really picky. Â And thank you, I can park my own car.
Review Source:Went there for the first time last night and we enjoyed dinner very much. The Caesar salad with fried calamari and the onion soup were great appetizers. The hamburger and grilled salmon were delicious, although my baked potato looked and tasted weird. (How can a baked potato be awful?) The French fries that came with the hamburger were among the best ever.
The only thing we really didn't like was that the hostess brought the bill on an iPad, which was seemingly very cool. However, we had no time at all to see if the check was correct. Moreover, the e-mailed receipt included only the total--nothing itemized that we could see.
Every online retailer manages to send a receipt with every detail of the order on it. It's fine to gush, "We're paperless." But they also should have the technology in place to send diners a complete receipt, too.
I'm giving Mitch and Toni's 5 stars (aka Yelp's "Woohoo! Â As good as it gets!") because they really did a bang-up job for brunch today. Â
Brunch is tricky. Â No one really likes paying for brunch, because, let's face it: eggs are eggs whether you pay $20 something at brunch or you pay $5 at your local diner. Â But people do like to go out and have a nice Sunday morning drinking mimosas with their friends, and everyone likes getting their money's worth.
Mitch and Toni's performs the balancing act of brunch perfectly. Â For $24.99, you get one "brunch cocktail" (either a mimosa or a Bloody Mary) and your choice of about ten entrees. Â You also get a bread basket of mini bagels and danish, coffee, and soda. Â The entrees were nicely proportioned. Â I got the steak (cooked rare) and eggs which also came with hash browns and my friend (I think) got their omelet with hash browns. Â It was all tasty and well made. Â Service was impeccable. Â Our waiter couldn't have been nicer or just-the-right-amount of attentive. Â Water was refilled often. Â
Mitch and Toni's also wasn't out-the-door crowded for brunch; so many places are, and my friend and I had tried to make reservations at about four other places (about a week in advance!), and each time we were told that those restaurants were booked. Â We were able to take our time at Mitch and Toni's and made to feel welcome to do so. Â They had larger parties and some smaller parties in addition to us but it wasn't the hectic, frantic, crazy brunch scene that is present at so many restaurants on a Sunday mid-morning. Â I really appreciated that, and I would choose MItch and Toni's again over other restaurants because of it.
Great service and a great night out with friends! The pizza with fig and goat cheese was amazing! THe french onion soup was also great. In the mixed salad didn't love the smoked apple but would order it next time without it. We had a group of 16 and everyone left satisfied a great please to celebrate wonderful occasions!
Review Source:We've eaten at Mitch & Toni's on several occasions and they 'wow' us every time.  We started with a fun rounds of drinks including a blood-orange margarita and a jalapeño margarita. We kept it light for appetizers and had the felafel. What a treat...they were perfect!  The entree selection offered a wide variety of choices pleasing to all palates. Our group had the pistachio crusted rack of lamb, grilled mahi mahi, the tuna special with three delicious dipping sauces and scrumptious BBQ beef short ribs. Even though we were kind of full, we couldn't resist dessert...the s'mores and dark chocolate semi-fredo were the perfect end to our wonderful meal. The staff are warm and friendly, and happy to accommodate you in any way they can.
Review Source:Went to Mitch and Toni's  last night in a group of six friends. The waitress was outstanding.  The food was ok, but the $39 strip steak was tough, the chopped salad was weak, the flatbread pizza was minimal on the toppings and there were no avocados on the cucumber avocado side salad.. Overall the prices speak 5 star but the food was 2 stars.
Review Source:Admiration it is, but true love it's not. Â Me and my better 3/5 made reservations for Mitch and Toni's for a Thursday evening around 7PM. Â We arrived at the appointed time and were seated in one of tables in the far corner. Â Our server Tony (not the namesake) was very cool and helpful, although it seemed like he was taking care of the whole restaurant. Â We decided upon the mini falafels and mini fish tacos for starters. Â The falafels were very good. Â Something however went awry with the fish tacos. Well, the slaw and dressing was missing something; perhaps too sweet, too little acid, a little too fishy even for fish tacos. Anyway, not what I'm expecting when I order a fish taco. Â I decided upon the pumpkin balsalmic browned butter ravioli, which was very good; right amount creamy, right amount savory. Â My husband had the flat iron steak with parsnip puree in a red wine sauce. Also, very good. Â We swore off dessert because we were stuffed, even though our neighbors at the next booth had the gooey chocolate cookies (two) with shot glasses of milk which looked amazing. Â Nothing I couldn't make for $9 though! Wow, that's a pricey chocolate chip cookie. Â I was a little taken back that they put on an automatic gratuity because we were using a Living Social promo. C'mon that's tacky. I tip better than that. Â You ended up getting shorted because of your automatic gratuity policy. Â Thanks M&T.
Review Source:Wow! I think we have found our new favorite spot! Â The food is amazing, well thought out and paired and just a little different! Â Every dish is fresh, well prepared, seasoned to perfection and presented beautifully. Â The desserts are just to die for...I'm not kidding! They also have a great bar. Â Everyone is welcoming, helpful and friendly. Â The decore is also great. We have loved our waiter, Nick who is patient, attentive, helpful and funny. We will just keep coming back!
Review Source:I have been driving past Mitch & Toni's for over a year, always interested in how it was and finally decided to give it a try. Â It was a random Tuesday night and it was pretty empty. We were greeted at the door of a very elegant restaurant. The waitress explained the specials and offered us a drink. I found the menu was a little limited. Â I started with the seafood gumbo which was uniquely presented. Â It was very good. I followed with the Herb Roasted chicken served with Mac & Cheese and broccoli rabe. The food was prepared and presented very nicely. Â My wife had the grilled salmon, it was served over quinoa. The fish was a little salty. Â All in all the meal wasn't bad, but I did see the owner walking around checking on the 'regulars' and passed right by my table. Â I like to see that very simple added touch when the owner or Maitre D' makes sure everything was enjoyable, but when it's only select tables it makes me feel as if my money isn't as important. Mitch & Toni's was nice, but for what I paid for a dinner for two I think I might go elsewhere next time.
Review Source:I went here with a group of 6 people. While I was on the phone making the reservation, the hostess said something about a high table and I wasn't sure what she was talking about so I just made the reservation. Let me tell you, never take the high tables. Worst seats in the house. They're right by the kitchen and are so hard to get into (especially if your short and are wearing a dress like me.) The food was good. Not spectacular. It was a nice upscale American place. Not good for kids. The portions were on the small side and it was expensive. it was also extremely loud; I could barely hear the people next to me. I wouldn't' ever suggest it for a business dinner. It was also pretty cramped and small. Â I had the salmon, which was good, with string beans and mushrooms. It was a pretty small piece of fish; especially, for the price. I may or may not dine here again. Not some place I'm making my new favorite place.
Review Source:We found a gem on Willis Ave. Mitch and Tonis was a real delight. Although crowded and a bit noisy, ramp up the volume and taste buds for something special. Appetizers are delicious. Opt for a few of the small plates. Try the Cuban Sandwich Empanadas or the Queso Fundido. Salads are excellent too. Share, share, share. Entree favorites include thePomegranate Glazed Long Island Duck, Pistachio Crusted Hake, as well as specials du chef. All were delicious. Save room for dessert. Several specials including S'mores topped off a great meal. Put this on your must do list.
Review Source:Dropped in with my wife for lunch
We've lived in the area for almost 15 years
Place has switched hands quite often. Â Used to be a friendly's restaurant and Italian to Asian fusion I think under previous managements.
Think these guys are here to stay
We were pleasantly surprised by the decor considering the place looks quite small from the outside. Â Nice details from the entry door to the restrooms.
Really enjoyed our meal and the peace and quiet( at least for lunch)
My wife got the vege wrap and I did the predictable burger and boy were they good
Glad to have found this gem in the neighborhood
We will be returning frequently
Don't have to travel far for a "special place"
I had to write this review after reading other subpar reviews.
Really don't understand how anyone could have given anything less than 4 stars
Welcome to the neighborhood
We will be seeing you again and often
Thanks to the several reminders from my wonderful friend Amy who knows Mitch, I finally made it to Mitch and Toni's last night and boy was it fantastic. And by the way, Tuesday night is $10 BURGER NIGHT!!! They used to manage/own Bistro M in Glen Head (which I thought was the best hidden gem on LI) it's now closed down and transitioned to Mitch and Toni's. Here's what took place:
Location/Bar:
+ Heidi the bartender was absolutely awesome. She was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to hang with while I was waiting for my dining guest.
+ The bar is relatively large for a restaurant of this size and they use the space very well. The restaurant was quite busy for a Tuesday night (which is good to see) and she managed the load well from me and the patrons along with keeping up with conversation.
+ They serve hard thick pretzels and a VERY strong/horse radishy mustard at the bar to snack on and mannnn...I loved the mustard!!! Talk about a KICK!!!
Food:
+ Spicy-crunchy Tuna Tartare. Spicy chili sauce, cucumber, radish, seaweed salad and crispy tortillas. This was prepared exactly the same way it was at Bistro M so I knew what to expect and damn was it good. Probably some of the best Tuna Tartare I've had in a LONG time. It came served on a bed of cucumber slices and a few crunchy chips on the side.
+ 10oz burger. It was done perfectly RARE with sautéed onions, avocados, and cheddar served with beans on the side and ketchup in a ramekin. I did it bunless to save the carbs but man did they cook this burger perfectly to RARE. NICE JOB!
+ Trio of Sorbets. Chocolate, coconut and pear. The pear sorbet was by far 1 of the best sorbets I've ever had and paired with the coconut made for a fantastic combination. I need to get this pear sorbet that they had..ORDER it and get the pear!!!!!!
+ Apple pie though it wasn't apple pie.
Service:
+ You'll have a few folks serving you at your table and the service was perfect and efficient. Toni also ensures that everything is fluid, comfortable and friendly...props to her for recognizing me from my Bistro M days and treating us quite well (in conjunction with the staff)
In summary? I can't wait to go back to Mitch and Toni's as I thoroughly enjoyed our fabulous dinner! Props to the fact that the menu on the website accurately reflects what's offered at the restaurant currently!!!
THIS has been a review by Gaurav
My husband and I were fans of Bistro M which closed and followed the chef to Mitch and Ton is. The food is good but our experience with the rude and unprofessional staff will prevent us from EVER going back! I am a vegetarian and asked our waitress if an appetizer could be prepared without the bacon. She assured me it wouldn't be a problem since "the bacon was just sprinkled on top". and proceeded to bring me the appetizer not only without the bacon but without all the other accouterments (cabbage, apples, etc...) When I questioned her about this her response was that the bacon was mixed in with the other things and this is why the other components of the dish were left out. In a restaurant with these prices if a waitperson is unsure they should make it their business to find out from the kitchen prior to just omitting several things from a dish without informing the customer. We proceeded to bring this to the owner's attention on our way out and we were disgusted by the defensive and belligerent reply of "it's just cabbage lady, there are people starving!!!!!" Good service and graciousness are a large part of the dining experience and they were sorely lacking here. Despite good food Mitch and Toni's left us with a sour taste in our mouths and a knot in our stomachs.
Review Source:I Â was in the neighborhood doing some shopping. Â One of the shop managers recommended stopping by Mitch, and Toni's. I called ahead, made a reservation, and asked if they called corkage.
We go there at 730, and the place was hopping. We ere seated promptly, and started off with 5 appetizers for the table.  The food was all great, but the wait staff were inexperienced, and took a long time to get all of our orders right.
Try the
-Brisket Sliders
-Tuna Tartar
- The scallops are great
- Halibut
The waitstaff brought the rating down to 3 stars, but the fact they did not charge Corkage(on two bottles) brought the rating to 5.
Ill be going back next time i am in the area.
Thanksgiving dinner. Pumpkin ravioli appetizer was exemplary. Turkey dinner was nice. Turkey was easily forgettable, somewhat dry and rubbery. The chorizo stuffing was very nice against the cranberry chutney, rudabaga mash, and grilled brussel sprouts. For Thanksgiving, the portion sizes could be a little less pretentious. Pumpkin cheesecake dessert was pleasant. Service: interestingly they move faster to clean the table than they  take drink orders. The entire staff was very warm, welcoming, and friendly.
Review Source:Happy hour at bar is a great deal, had a couple of drinks each, Asian Wings, Rib Appetizer.....both very good.
Great Bread.........always a good start.
Had the Trout Special and wife had the Seared Scallops, both very good.
Overall very good food, nice atmosphere. Prices are high, but it is quality food. I would recommend you try it. Â Not on my "best ever" list, but a high quality place.
I didn't make a reservation and showed up with my wife around 8pm on a recent Thursday and it was pretty busy - we were seated immediately though. Â I'm not really sure how to characterize the menu, but I suppose modern american is probably the closest. Â
We started with the Asian Wings and the Rock Shrimp Tacos. Â I must say, both were pretty uninspiring. Â There were 6 tiny, and I mean from a small chicken, wings. Â No drumettes, no wing tips, just the radius and ulna. Â The flavor was fine - there was some seame, soy, sweet and salty combination, but not for $13. Â Your local bar or any wing chain makes them better for way less money. Â The rock shimp tacos, which were recommended by the server, were soggy, both on the inside and outside. Â I'd pass on both.
As for the entrees, I went for the salmon and my wife had the corn and crab ravioli appetizer. Â The salmon, which is billed as organic was cooked perfectly. Â It was a Mediterranean preparation, sitting atop some quinoa, and a ratatouille with olives that was another nice sweet and salty combination. Â I splurged for a side of asparagus, which appeared to be steamed - they were peeled and gave off a strange pale green color. Â They tasted good despite their ugliness. Â The corn and crab ravioli was very tasty also, very rich and sweet - everything you'd want in that kind of pasta.
We passed on dessert. Â This resto is not cheap. Â My wife ordered one glass of wine and had an appetizer as her entree and the bill was $97 (with gratuity). Â Our server was attentive and friendly, but recommended a dish that was awful imho.
It's a 2.5 star performance for me, but due to the quality of our entrees, I'll round up. Â I'm not sure I would head back so quickly though.
Waitress tried real hard to be good but she was a littlee inexperienced. slider app was good but could have had more meat, asian wings were a little spicy but nothing special.
my fish dinner special(some fish over rock shrimp)was very good , just not enough shrimp. my wifes fish was dry. chocolate BP pie was ok , crepes were passable. timing of apps to main was good but 1/2 hour wait for dessert??? tables are small , too close ,too noisey. I probably will not return.but if like noisey loud and lively places with "modern cuisine" you should give it a shot.
My husband and I were visiting family on Long Island and they took us to this wonderful restaurant. Â We got to meet both Mitch (the Chef) and Toni (the manager). Â The food was so amazingly delicous.
The four of us shared 2 appetizers, the tuna tartare and the bucani (sp) pasta. Â I don't really eat tuna but the pasta dish was heavenly, I could have eaten a ton of it.
We all had a different entree and all 4 were wonderful. Â If you like fish get the pistachio crusted halibut. Â The filet mignon and duck were also fabulous. Â If you have room for dessert and there's enough of you, you should get at least 2 to share for variety. Â We split 3 of them. Â My favorite was the Nutella crepes. Â They are to die for!
It's shocking to see that anyone had less than a 4 star experience. Â If you live within driving distance you should go.
