Interesting stop here after golf today for a few cold Pints, some afternoon Sports on TV and sandwiches, burgers & What not. Seems this is a small chain and each location has the same menu.

your Standard Sports Bar with multiple seating areas, bar tops, etc.. Service was brisk and efficient. Some cold pints as previously stated along with unlimited refills on tea and lemonade.

French onion soup was different in large crock pot with dried friend onions on top of the cheese... Hot, tasty and quite filling.

Classic Grilled Chicken Ceaser salad was ok, with nice breast of chicken but salad and dressing were just ok.

Two Cuban Sandwiches were huge with few seasoned french fries... I thought they were tasty if not a little dry for a panini.

Big winner here was the 8 Oz Burger with seasoned fries... Juicy and simple but top quality meat here.

Service as stated spot on... Some pricey menu items a well as this is much more than just another sports bar..

Bathroom had NO AC and it must have been 130 degrees in there.. ... Burger a winner will try Pizza next time... Cuban well not bad but would not order again.... No Big knocks here just Solid 3 stars...

This place is great. There are three locations and although all of them are good, the one in Tinton Falls is my favorite. The food is always great, they have different specials every day so the menu doesn't get old and it is very obvious that the staff here cares about their jobs and everyone's satisfaction. Definitely my go to place at least once a week.

Definitely worth a visit

I was so hoping this place was good. I bought a gift certificate for Christmas for a client of mine based on a few appetizers I had in the past at the bar, upstairs. I really like the upstairs bar/lounge. But when I brought my girls there for dinner today, it was just "so-so". To be fair, the fried calamari was very good. But, that's it. Burgers were undercooked, rolls were getting stale (hard in areas), fries were flavorless, but crispy. Wifey's turkey wrap was dry. Pickles were good, though. Our waitress "Cat" was very pleasant. She gets 4 stars.
Besides the undercooked burgers, the flavorless french fries and dry turkey, the lighting where we were sitting (Table 72) is HORRIBLE. We sat in (what I believe to be) the main floor dining room, against the window (well, "partially" against the window and partially against a pillar), overlooking the Tinton Fall below. However with the pillar in the way, the view was obstructed considerably. But the real question is, "who came up with that lighting scheme?" There are NO overhead lights near the window end of the tables. After the sun goes down, we couldn't see what we were eating. When the check came, I had to reach over to the other end of the table to read it.
2 Special Burgers, 2 orders of Fried Calamari, 1 Turkey BLT Wrap, 2 Seltzers and 1 Iced Tea- $69 + tip.
I hear the pizza isn't bad. So I'll give it one more shot with Wifey, and maybe just order a pizza. If that turns out to be a disappointment as well, then we'll try across the street (Moose Tavern) to see if that's any better. If that's no good, then its back to my old stand-by...

Pizza was not good. Too much mozz and not enough sauce, and needed to be cooked a little more. Service was poor, maybe the waitress had too much going on, but that's not my problem. It's worth another visit but not for the pizza. The atmosphere is nice and the view of the river is very nice, but that was here before MJ's was. When it was the grist mill that was really nice.

I'm giving this place a big no based on their prices. An order of fish and chips will set you back $18.00! That's about twice the price you'd pay at a nice pub in Manhattan. Most of the other menu selections except pizza are correspondingly overpriced as well. It's a shame because the bar has a nice, elevated view of the Tinton Waterfalls.

I just can't bring myself to pay obscene prices for average food.

I walked upstairs to the bar, and it stunk like vomit on the way up. Upon getting to the top of the stairs, there was an overwhelming smell of bleach. It reminded me of the college bars I used to frequent back in the day. We were eventually seated downstairs.

Our server was very friendly and brought out the drinks and apps pretty quick. Also, the view out the window was fantastic.

I had the chili, and my friends had the mozzarella sticks and chicken nachos. My $6 chili was average at best, and actually gave me heartburn. I never get heartburn! The nachos were made with some cheapo nacho chips, and the chicken was dry. Hardly what I'd expect to pay $10 for. The $7 mozzarella sticks were pretty good.

Before leaving, I went to use the downstairs bathroom. There is an outer door you must pass through before going to either the lady's room or men's room. Upon exiting that outer door, I couldn't help but notice how absolutely filthy it was. Gross!

I'd never come back here.

All the MJs are pretty good. I like this one the best for the outdoor seating. Food is pretty good and consistent, and the thin crust pizza is great. Service is always great here.

I must say I'm very disappointed on my recent visit here with a couple friends for our usual SUNDAY FUNDAY FOOTBALL. * Sigh where do I begin.. The bar staff SHOULD keep the channels the way they are and NOT change in the middle of the game. Take note! You should already have all these games set up... NICK AND KIM you SUCK so I just wanted to put it out there just venting my frustrations.. Aside from that, the food has always been blah anyway but what bar food can you say is actually deliciously awesome?
The location is nice though... there's a pretty view and that's the nicest thing I could probably say about this place and oh the bathroom is nice and warm.
So if you're planning on coming here its just OK and it's not much different from your neighborhood chains of Fridays and Applebees and to be honest some of those places have better food than MJ's
I EXPECTED BETTER :X

I had been going to the "Gristmill" way, way back in the day. We decided to try this place on our latest return to the mothership. It was quiet at lunch. The view is really beautiful, I have always enjoyed it. The service was pretty slow considering not many people there. I had always thought the Gristmill offered really nice fare as well as a bargain steak night. Those were the days.

Anyways, hub liked the wings. A little out of the ordinary. Jr. ordered the kids pizza and they charged a few bucks to put eights discs of pepperoni on it. It was ok, nothing I would go back for. The teens had the burger. One was cooked perfect the other burnt. Sent back the burnt one and had a blood dripping one replace it. Turn off, fer sure. Sent it back and had her share my fish sandwich. They had the right idea with this one, although for 11 bucks, it could of been bigger. Fish dredged in panko, a nice remolaud ( ?) sauce, nice bread with seasoning and then send to the panini press. There fries were really tasty. would I go back? If they have specials or a happy hour, yea.

This is now MJ's Pizza Bar and Grill... one of three by that name in the area. The ambiance is as described by other reviewers... a bit road house/rustic. There's a nice deck overlooking the falls with a half dozen tables. Menu is much more than pizza. Excellent burgers and steak. Good ribs. Several sea food entrees. Entree prices in the $12 - $20 range. Didn't see the bar. They offer gluten-free crust on their personal pizzas for $1.00 extra. A nice touch. Web site: http://mjsrestaurant.com/

This is one of the nicer restaurants I've been to here in the Tinton Falls area. Built right off the cliffs that overlook what I guess would be Tinton "Falls" (although I wouldn't really count 5 foot waterfalls as falls), but a pretty decent view if you grab a table on that side.

The restaurant area is nice and quaint, but what's awesome is the upstairs bar area. I think its a popular bar for locals. When I walked up, they have a U shaped bar that covered most of the floor with a giant 200" (exaggerated but not by that much) HD projection with the NCAA tournament on. It was love at first site...

With a pretty classy menu which averaged about $25/entree, they also offer burgers and other dishes for under $15 as well. My coworker had the slow cooked short ribs that was very tender and soft (and plenty of meat). I had the burger which was pretty good, but the bread was a little dry.

Good for a date place.
