the place was alright. i think this place was given more hype than it needed to be. My buddy and I went here for lunch while we dropped off a buddy since he was in a wedding party and we hadn't eaten lunch. i saw this place on yelp so i thought we would try it out. the inside of the place is cool but you don't go to a restaurant for their decorations. my buddy got a pork sandwich. When you think of pork sandwich you expect something pretty darn good. well it was just a plain old cafeteria style ham and cheese sandwich. i could have gone to the supermarket and made that myself. I got a crab cake sandwich and it was pretty good. nothing exceptional. i thought the menu was a bit overpriced what they were serving.
Review Source:We've been going to Barnacle Bill's since 1985, maybe a year or two earlier, and we're there at a minimum once a month, sometimes weekly. And when I tell you that we've never had a bad meal I mean, we've never had a bad meal!
Now that being said I must admit that we usually get cheeseburgers, if I go to Barnacle Bill's and don't order a burger I wish I did, they are that good. They are served on a hard roll with potato chips and a large dill pickle spear. Add the steak fries or even better the homemade onion rings and you've got heaven on a plate and in a bowl. I always get cheddar cheese with fried onions, my wife usually Swiss and bacon.
I also like their open faced Reuben, their fish is always fresh. I love their side green salad with the house dressing, said dressing has crumbled hard boiled eggs as a main ingredient!
They have homemade deserts, and I do mean homemade, the owners sister makes them. We usually get the brownie al a mode with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The whipped cream is made on location too.
Now to a very important element, the drinks. One thing i can say about Barnacle Bill's is that they know how to make a drink and they are not afraid to pour some alcohol into that drink. They had a bartender that when he saw me would say "yes Mr. Tequila, what will it be today", just his way of asking Margarita or a Sunrise. Gotta love it!
One last word, I do miss the peanuts they once had. They were in an old fashioned peanut warmer, non working, you scooped a bowl, deshelled the nut and threw the shells on the floor. Ah, home away from home!
