Montgomery Distillery

As an outsider (from Calgary), I didn't really have any expectations coming to Missoula. The first thing that struck me was the drink limit at all the breweries and distilleries. Interesting way of doing things, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of Montgomery Distillery.

The drinks are perfectly crafted. So much, that I have been attempting to recreate them at home due to cravings, and failing miserably. They use top notch ingredients and home brewed spirits. We opted for the tour, and were glad we did. Up until this point, I hadn't heard of "craft distilleries". In Canada, we are well versed in craft breweries. But I didn't give spirits any thought.

Buttery aroma on the vodka? Huh? Yeah right. I had to have some straight up to see for myself. And yes. It is possible. The vodka is unbelievably clean and robust. I didn't think that was possible. The gin is loaded with aromatics and blows anything I'm used to out of the water.

More about this venue? Awesome open-concept, airy, rustic environment. Prompt service and hard-working bartenders compliment the diverse menu. Be sure to bring some friends so you can spread your two drink limit across a variety of drinks; the only way to sample all the ingenious flavour combinations.

Can't wait to go back.

Montgomery is the new kid in town and couldn't get a more prime spot that Front Street in downtown Missoula. I finally made my first visit here and was very impressed. The tasting room was a nice open area with a bar towards the back of the room. They are listed as SQUARE vendor so you can see their offerings if you have a Square Wallet account before you even step in there. I tried their Moscow Mule and was blown away. There is a 2 drink limit here but each one is strong. If you sit towards the window and look down you can see the distilling in action below which is really neat. I've been told that they provide tours to patrons on some days and I'll need to do that at some point. I also need to pick up a bottle of their vodka because it was smooth!
