Came in for dinner after a long day and were seated in front of one of the two ac (in the window type ) systems. Â The air was blowing on us and there was no other seating for two offered. Â We froze and it was so noisy.
The food was only OK and not worth the cost.
ABSOLUTELY NO Â VEGAN options and the server was not helpful at all.
Ended up with an appetizer and a salad. Â I was sick all night and my friend ( not vegan) had a similar reaction to the Pork special.
All this for over $110 .....
The staff were pleasant and chatty BUT ONLY to folks they appeared to know.
Will not return and after talking to neighbors here in Harwich ; this is not an " uncommon" opinion. Â ONCE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH.
When we are down on the cape we usually hit the Fish House or the Bramble Inn, two very good places. Â This time we mixed it up and went with the Mooncusser. Â
At first blush it was a very cool place with nice ambience. Â It's in an old house and the tables are dispersed amongst the house's rooms. Â They have two small bars that appear they could be fun seating when you are alone or with another. Â Since we were a party of 6 we had a table....right next to the kitchen's swinging door. Â Yikes. Â Bad start.
The server was very nice and courteous. Â No problems there. Â The first sign of trouble was the laminated menus with a very small selection. Â The tapas appetizers were good - carpaccio and cheese plate were two selections we liked. Â The entrees were just ok, nothing special.
Again, not bad but as we walked out we all said "shoulda went to the Fish House".

What a place! Â My wife and I needed a well deserved nice dinner on the cape and a quick yelp search found this place as just what we were looking for.
We decided to sit in the bar area as we were dressed very casual and we definitely didn't stick out. Â Bar was already full when we got there at 5:30pm but there were a few tables free.
We ordered the cheese plate, 2 Brewster oysters, mushrooms ajillo, avocado and tuna tempura, and duck infused burgers. Â Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious! Â We were both full when we were down.
Tack on 2 martinis each and our bill came to $96. Â Pricey, but worth it. Â We met the owner, Patrick, on our way out and he was very friendly. Â We told him we would definitely be back!
Perfect date night on the Cape!
We tried Mooncussers for the first time after hearing good things from friends and it was amazing. My date and I each had an appetizer and entree and we were blown away with how delicious everything was. My date had the maple glazed pork belly which was melt-in-your-mouth amazing and I had the tuna avocado tempura which was equally as interesting and delicious. For dinner I had the scallops with an asparagus risotto and it was cooked to perfection. My date had the duck infused burger and is still raving about it. Big portions, big drink pours and excellent service - we can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Finally stopped in for dinner after driving by hundreds of times.
Very impressive small tavern setting.
We had the lobster roll .. which was ok, not great and I the pappardelle pasta with fresh seafood which was terrific..
Friendly and attentive staff, good wine list, nice selection of draft beer.
The menu is a step above pub food with very creative dishes
Nice, comfy setting and good food. Great combo
We'll be back !!
My family has had a house in Harwich for 30+ years so we know all of the restaurants well. We went here because a friend of mine recommended it and it was one of the best places I've ever eaten in all of cape cod. The food was amazing, the atmosphere is perfect - one side more of a casual cozy bar scene with tables and the other more of a dining area - and the staff is genuinely so nice and friendly. Patrick the owner came over to check on us a couple of times and was so down to earth and unassuming despite his incredible background and world travels. It's the kind of place you leave and immediately start telling your friends to check it out because it's the kind of place everyone - all ages and personalities - will love.
The portions are huge - we thought we were gonna explode but couldn't stop eating because it was so good. My dad and I had the scallops with risotto which was one of the best scallop dishes I've ever had - and I live in NYC and eat at amazing restaurants frequently. My friend had a pappardelle pasta with shell fish which was also great.
This spot has had a bunch of mediocre different restaurants and owners over the years so we never bothered to go - so happy to see it finally turned into something amazing. Hope it doesn't get too popular that we can't get reservations though :)
Ps. The one and only bad review is amusing - offended by sneakers? Welcome to cape cod.
I visited Cape Cod this past weekend and went to Mooncussers Tavern in Harwich. It was such a great experience.
Mooncussers in Harwich is what a restaurant/tavern should be like.
While visiting friends and family last weekend we decided to grab something to eat along with a few cocktails. My local friends recommended Mooncussers, so that's where we headed. I had my reservations about it due to the fact I had never been and the location has yielded a few different names in the past. That feeling subsided as soon as I walked inside. It was around 7:30 on a Saturday night and was quite busy. We headed straight for the bar and there were empty seats waiting for us.
The bartender, who is the son of the owner, brought us our drinks of choice and handed us menus to look over, which contained a large variety of tapas as well as entrees. We decided to do a little bit of flavor exploration, so we went with the tapas. Among the things we ordered were a cheese plate containing locally made cheeses from the Chatham Cheese Company, Â Maple Glazed Pork Belly, Beef Carpaccio, and Duck Infused Sliders. The food was phenomenal, absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The presentation was top tier and the portion sizes were consistent. The food at Mooncussers is in a league of its own.
After eating we decided to have a few more cocktails. One of my friends had a unique drink recipe that she had obtained while in Charleston SC. We were simply discussing it back and forth and how good it sounded, when the bartender overheard us and asked if he could try and make it. He got the recipe and began muddling away...literally. The drink was fantastic and we were obliged that he took it upon himself to make it. Toward the conclusion of our visit, a man came over and introduced himself as Patrick Wiseman, the owner of the establishment. I introduced myself and he shared some brief stories about his past relationships with my father and uncle in their younger days. It was a nice treat to see that my roots are still strong on Cape Cod. After we settled up, as soon as I walked out the door, I knew I wanted to go back. That was the impact that Mooncussers had on me, and I think that type of impact is what a great restaurant needs in order to survive, especially on Cape Cod. I don't see Mooncussers going anywhere but up.
My friend and I had an early supper at Mooncussers. The setting is quiet and rustic. The bartender and waitress were very kind and helpful. They had nice music playing and soon the Bruins game was aired. The place was filling up as we left around 7:30.
I settled on the Gambas al Ajillo  - A traditional Spanish tapas, sautéed marinated tiger shrimp and the Grilled Artichoke  - Dressed with extra virgin olive oil and served with your choice of aioli or hollandaise sauce.  The shrimp was delicious, well worth the 8.00 but the artichoke while tasty, was a small meager half and not worth 7.00. Why not make it a whole choke? The sourdough bread mopped up the shrimp marinade. My friend loved  her two Seared Scallops $8 but honestly, two scallops? They were pan seared and served with a paprika-apple butter . She did not choose the entree because it was a full pound of scallops. She had a small salad as well that was overpriced for 10.00. The wine list is quite nice. It's a cute spot.
We looked at my friend's wedding photos (from her FB account) as there was free wifi.
They had house made shrimp and goat cheese raviolis I'd love to try sometime.
Perfect way to end the workweek--tapas and libation. Really nice bar where we nabbed the two open seats. I ordered a ginger lemon drop martini and hubby had a Allagash White on draught.  YUM!  Our barkeeper was spot on with just the right amount of attention. We did two courses of tapas. Starting with the cheese plate and the stuffed calamari. Great textures and flavors! Second course was Gambas al Ajillo and rosemary béarnaise fries. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. The fries were addictive. We will definitely sneak back again when our son is otherwise engaged.
