After Gruene Hall, we grabbed a late dinner here on Sunday night. Â My margarita (rocks) was excellent. Â I had the fish tacos. Â The fish was blackened and delicious. Â They were a bit messy...but when food is good, I don't mind a little running down my arm. Â My daughter had the turkey sandwich - even thought the menu said half, it looked like a full sandwich to me! Â The skinny fries were just the way I like them....crispy and salty! Â Our seats were perfect as they were in front of one the the televisions. Â We watched the Spurs win Game 5...good night in Texas!
Review Source:Not gonna say much here. Â Food and drinks are really good and the location is awesome. My only reason yof not a 5 star - is the small space and semi expensive drinks. Â Also - not entirely thrilled with their beer selection - they need some beers on tap - but thats about it. Â
Ive had fish tacos - excellent but spicey so I asked for them to not blacken my fish. Â Ive had just about all of the salads, LOVE the french fries, and the sliders platter...Umm...exactly what it says - prepare yourself for a heart attack but they are DELISH!!!
Sit your butt down on a Mozies bar stool and enjoy...then get yourself some delicous ice cream across the street!
The garlic fries are the best I've found! Â Amazing! Â I really like their slider plate and I sub in garlic fries. Â So yummy :) Â Cute, historic bar. Â A must if you're in Gruene.

We went to Mozie's at the beginning of Jan 2013 Â around 6 pm,primarily because the Boyfriend who I will call Mick, had won a gift certificate. We walked in and sat at the bar, which we didn't mind; they were very busy. Â We were almost immediately greeted by the bartender and had drinks almost as quickly.
The Good: We both ordered the Char King one with cheese and one without. Both were delicious, need I say more? YES! These burgers were so flavorful. The meat and veggies were all fresh, the bun was soft and fresh too. The best thing about these burgers is their size! They are big, and I mean BIG! The cheese absolutely covers the perfectly cooked to order patty and whatever seasoning they use is superb! The Shinerbock onion rings are some of the best we have had, anywhere!
The Bad: It was a cold night and they had the door open so it was a little chilly. Also it seemed like they needed another server or the manager on duty needed to help out more because that poor bartender was running her behind off trying to serve drinks and wait tables.
The Service: AWESOME! Our drink order was taken and filled in the blink of an eye and our food came out almost as quickly. The bartender checked back often and was super- friendly for as busy as she was, and she was BUSY! Â Super-impressed how effortless she made it look though.
Would absolutely recommend this place. It was packed and that is not a surprise because of it second -to- none service and quality of food. The prices were good and well worth it. If you are in New Braunfels this is an absolute must. When you are finished you can "Mozie" on over to the dance hall across the street and dance off the great meal you just enjoyed.
Probably won't go back, but it was OK. Highlight = Fish Tacos which were wonderful and a tad spicy which was nice.
I would skip the $2 happy hour margarita- wayy to tart and you might as well get the Margarita across the street at Cantina Del Rio (same owners), which is just $3 on Wednesdays but even at $6 it's much better and stronger.
Sliders were OK but I've had much better ones in Austin.
Weird long shape of the restaurant made it difficult to get to the bathroom so the layout is not the most comfortable.
It's a more formal atmosphere so if you like that, go for it. Staff wasn't the friendliest either. I'll stick to Cantina Del Rio for better service, more relaxed atmosphere and better Margarita. Bottom line is it was pretty good but nothing special.
This place has great food and the location is fantastic and right in the action, across from Gruene Hall. Â If you want to stop some place to watch the game, this is your spot. Â The beer is cold and the TVs are plentiful.
The service was pretty good and everyone was very friendly. This place is a converted side of the antique store next door and it has the beautiful old floors and brick walls. Â I think the only thing I would change would be to put something on the walls, besides the TVs. Â It just seems kind of naked.
This place was in a rad old building that I think used to be a jail. Â I'm not sure how to rate this place as it came back to bite my husband, so i'll rate it from my experience. Â We got seated straight away, and our server was super friendly and nice, that good ole southern hospitality.
Must preface this by saying, we were quite tipsy when we came in as had been drinking beers at gruene hall all afternoon. Â We ordered the garlic fries to start and we demolished them in about 2 seconds flat, they were delicious! Â I had the grilled cheese sandwhich which was really nice as it came with tomatoes, spinach and a side of fruit which was what i needed! Â
We all ordered cocktails as well, which were delicuious - i had the mojito. Â Now, for my husbands experience. Â He ordered the cheese sliders, which were basically 3 little burggers with cheese, meat and mayo. Â They were super greasy, and you could see the grease on top. Â He managed to eat all 3 of them despite the amount of grease and oil dripping off the cheese and bun. Â He enjoyed them at the time, but unfortunately they came back up a few hours later. Â Must say they do come with a warning on the menu that they are greasy! Â Perhaps he should have read a bit more carefully!
Other than the blender blowing up during our supper, Mozie's did a good job with the Fish Tacos. The Chopped Con is very good for the meat lover in your life. This is way better than bar food!
It actually had the potential to go gastropub, but I am not sure if the owners would know how to make the transition.
The food here is fair but the unexpected items on their menu may take it up a notch. Â The downfall here is the price of the items. Â My wife and I had a hamburger, side salad, Cobb salad, and two fountain drinks. Â The total came to over $30! Â The service was very nice but lacked sense of urgency as we waited at least 5 minutes to receive menus. Â The restaurant is clean and inviting but the seating arrangement due to the long and narrow space is a bit uncomfortable if you are the lucky one to have the seat in the isle way! Â I don't know about you, but I'm uncomfortable with my back to the door yet alone having to sit in the only traffic path from the front of the establishment to the back.
Would I come back? Â Probably not since I can go to many other establishments in town that will give me more for my money and a better atmosphere!
We stopped in to Mozie's on Saturday because it was raining and we didn't want to get rained on at the rodeo. Â I got the Junior Cobb salad and it was good but there was more 'stuff' in it than lettuce . . . I'm pretty sure that it defeated the purpose of getting a salad, but what I have to say is, unless you haven't eaten in three days, the Junior should be plenty. Â I can't even imagine what the regular size would be like. Â My friend got the fish tacos which the waitress recommended and she really liked them as well. Â
The only real downside was that we sat in the bar area, at a high top against the wall, and people are really on top of you when they walk by to get in and out of the place. Â I'd try it again. If I were a bigger sports fan it would be a cool place to watch a game at.
I have tried pretty much everything on their menu and have 0 complaints. The service is friendly and prompt. I have never had to wait for a seat...even on weekends when there is a concert going on at Gruene Hall. My first choice meal would have to be their Turkey sandwich. It comes with fresh tomatoes, lettuce & avocado with a delicious aioli spread. They toast the sandwich to perfection and it comes with the most amazing skinny fries. Did I mention that you can order the skinny fries as an appetizer sprinkled with parmesan cheese!?! My second choice meal would be the fish tacos with a cold & refreshing Blue Moon beer. I like to watch sports at this restaurant. They have good TVs and smoking isn't allowed.
Review Source:Being so narrow and long, I can see this place being crowded on the weekends, but we went on a Wednesday night and it was perfect. It has a bar atmosphere, but it wasn't too noisy. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and they had the usual sports on tv. My only segregation is that you don't sit directly under an air vent unless you want to freeze.
Review Source:Tried and I mean we tried to sit at the bar, order a drink or two and eat as we were hungry. Â It was a Sunday afternoon, and Gruene was crowded with tourists. Â We had decided to take a drive in the new convertible, and we were thirsty and hungry. Â BUT the two young women behind the bar never made eye contact with us to let us know they were busy, which by the way, the restaurant wasn't that busy at all, and there were several stools available at the bar. Â Needless to say, my husband and I waited an appropriate amount of time before we moved on to another restaurant, who welcomed us and served us promptly. Â Terrible service, and the young girl at the door didn't even stop us and say hey, where are you going? Â Nothing....just see you later. Â How do places like that stay in business?
Review Source:On either side of the door reads "Ladies welcome" and "Air conditioned". Â We opened the door and were greeted by tunes of Johnny Cash. At that point I knew I would like this place. The narrow bar and grill is made of old wood floors, a long bar and 2 & 4 tops and 8 flat screens.
I ordered a mimosa and was pleased to see them make it with O.J. freshly juiced to order and was even more pleased when the rest of the 187 ml bottle was served along with it to dilute the juice later. I ordered the slider plate which typically comes with fries they obliged by request to sub it with fresh fruit. The sliders are ground beef, mayonnaise and cheddar cheese. I opted for no mayo expecting it would make it a little healthier but by the description that included "If they're not greasy enough, send'em back" I should have known better. The sliders were served an ungodly amount of cheese. The cheese encased the entire bottom and sides of the sliders and oozed onto the plate. Â I wasn't disappointed but I did try to rescue the the little guys from the web of cheddar. They were greasy from the top of the bun down and were very filling. The fruit was a simple mix of grapes and strawberries. I had a bite of the turkey sandwich which was pretty good. Their full turkey sandwich is a pound of turkey but you can order a half. I also sneaked a couple of their thinly cut "skinny" fries which were crispy and addictive enough I had to push them out of reach.
This is a great place to cool down from the heat, catch a game on the TV, roll your sleeves up and get your hands greasy.
I have visited Gruene several times over the last year and, being a mega foodie, I like to try as many different restaurants as I can. Â The first time I "mosied" into Mozie's, it was because of the Yelp reviews that I had read. Â The service was friendly and fast. Â I love french fries and garlic, so when I read the menu and saw that Mozie's combines the 2, of course I had to try them. Â The only thing that can be said of these fries is, whoa! Â Stop, slow down, and just enjoy them because they are truly a culinary experience. Â Did I mention that they also have butter on them? Oh yea! Â Other dishes that I've tried here are the fish tacos, the "adult" grilled cheese with turkey and the regular turkey sandwich. Â The fish tacos were fresh and spicy (just the way I like my fish tacos), the grilled cheese with turkey was an explosion of flavors that make my water even as I write this review. Â I was disappointed with the turkey sandwich but I think it was because I tried it after the grilled cheese with turkey and it doesn't even come close. Â The cook really skimped on the avocado on the turkey sandwich and then they charged me when I wanted more. Â A brief call to the g.m. got me an apology and he asked me to come back for lunch on him. Â Not bad for a tourist town restaurant! Â The prices are pretty good and Mozie's is definitely one of my favorites in Gruene.
Review Source:This place is cute and has reasonable prices. Â I had the grilled tilapia tacos which were quite delish but a tad bit heavy with cole slaw. Â The char-king burger is humongous but seemed to be a fave among patrons. Â The shiner bock onion rings are really onion strings but they are awesome. Â Wait staff started out strong but ended with us struggling just to get the check. Â It was Sunday lunch during ROT weekend so it may not be problematic at other times.
Review Source:Mozie's saved me the other day after an afternoon spent in the Texas sun stranded on the side of the road with one tire completely blown to shreds. I was tired, hungry, frustrated, hot, and feeling all around yucky. I opened the door and stepped inside with my mom in tow and we were greeted quickly by friendly smiles.
Our drink order was taken and filled in what seemed like less than a minute. If you've ever stood outside on blacktop during a south Texas summer for several hours with no shade in sight, you can imagine how thankful I was to get something to drink!
And speaking of drinks, though I was in dire need of water when I was in last, they have a pretty impressive beer selection at Mozie's. And the table next to us was raving about how great the cocktails were. So, I'm going to have to get back asap to give those a whirl.
Our food was also delicious. The fish tacos were very different from most I'd had before (they came with a red sauce and the tortillas were fried) but they were scrumptious. And my mom's chicken salad was good enough to remind me almost of the famous chicken salad my grandmother used to make, and that's probably the single highest compliment I could pay a food item!
Went here for my birthday with the wifey and some buddies. Â Apparently this was a closet some time ago but they've really done a nice job turning it into a bar. Â It's quite narrow, but the service is good and the food is yummy. Â I have been told Zeus himself created the sliders, but I opted for the Adult Grilled Cheese, and added Turkey.
My heart was blissfully pumping Gouda for the rest of the week and I left very satisfied. Â As a New Braunfels local, I try to stay away from Gruene in general, but this is definitely worth a visit...if only for a drink. Â As an added bonus, one of the few bars in the area that does not allow smoking.

This place is a bit less Texas Honky Tonk than other restaurants in Gruene. Â It's a very long restaurant/bar which makes walking to the bathroom fun when the place is full. Â Their bar is beautiful with molded wood arm rests.
Their sliders are fantastic but not for anyone dieting.  The patty was juicy and buns are very buttery.  The description literally reads "If they're not greasy enough, send 'em back".  The hot dog is huge, it is called The Big Dog after all.  I ordered it fully dressed with sauerkraut and jalapeño mustard with skinny fries on the side.  Fries are nice and crispy.  I've also had their garlic fries as an appetizer.  You can't lose with potato, garlic, and cheese!  It's very good pub grub, if that's what you're looking for.  The staff is always very friendly, even on those busy Gruene weekends!
Went to Mozie's last night with fellow Yelpers before catching a show at Gruene Hall.
This bar is in a great location on a corner from all the major stops in Gruene. Â The inside is like a long rectangle, with tiny tables and bar stools. Â This was my one issue with the place is that it can get cramped.
We didn't eat the food so I can't say anything about that but I will say that the bar had a great beer menu, plus a wide variety of liquor drinks to pick from. Â I had my staple drink that I always get, Jameson on the rocks, and it was only $5.50 and was poured strong. Â
This is a good place to come get a drink at before seeing a show at Gruene Hall because they serve liquor whereas Gruene Hall does not. Â Next time I will try the food.
I met a friend for dinner here, who I hadn't gotten to talk to in a while.
It was a bit loud, but that didn't really bother us as I tend to talk loudly when excited.
We both started with beers, and I ordered a burger. The burger was ok, a step above fast food, but still not up to par with what I would have expected. The beef was pretty bland, and the condiments and dressing on the burger didn't add anything to it.  A little over halfway throught the burger I got a lovely mouthful of gristle, the kind you would normally find in a frozen burger patty. At that point I lost my appetite almost totally but for the saving grace of the meal  the GARLIC FRIES.....  They were heavenly and garlicy. I 'd go back just to eat them alone.
Service was ok, but I do feel like when were rushed out of there when out plates were cleared, our check was brought with the last beers we had ordered. We would have staid and had a few more but that meant re-opening a tab.
Everything I've ever tried here is great.
The staff are charming.
If you are picky or have allergies, you have to speak very slowly and be very patient with mistakes. Â Don't be afraid to remind the server what you are allergic to.
Don't go to the same old places everyone goes to in Gruene. Â
Order your food at Mozie's and take it across the street to eat while you listen to music at Gruene Hall.
Oh, and did I mention the Bloody Mary's? Â They are fantastic here.
For some reason, this ended up being my favorite bar in Texas.
Long, like a NY bar...but REALLY long. Plus, there was a ton of room between the bar stools and the wall so there wasn't anyone bumping into you. Bartender was real friendly, despite my spastic order for the first round. "A shot of Jack. No wait, two. Oh an a beer. No wait, a shot of 1800 for this guy, and give him a chaser as well." Plus my new friends were ordering coffee. The dude had patience!
Odd thing, the bar had a cop for a bouncer. Nice! I could have out run him though.
Anyway, we were howling with laughter the entire time and I think that's what made it so enjoyable. But it was really well lit and clean too, which is not typical for any bar let alone a Texan cantina. Totally going back here if I'm in Gruene. Which will be never, but oh well.
Probably not your first stop if you're dieting but a fine selection if you're into the whole relaxing in Gruene on the weekend while doing a little walking around type thing. It's a shotgun-style thin reed of a place, dominated in the front end by a long, low-slung bar overseen by a few plasmas.
The beer selection is impressive if not immense, and we settled for a Warsteiner dunkel and Saint Arnolds Lawnmower in honor of summertime. The menu was more of an interesting adventure: I opted for a norteno-style short ribs plate (there's no sauce with these: only lime and salt), and the dessert lover decided on some cheeseburger sliders. Apparently those tend to be pretty greasy, so know that going in. Service was prompt and friendly if casual, and we were in and out in time for me to make it back to Austin pretty expediently after a weekend out of town. Worth a try if you're not in a hurry, or don't want to feel like you are.
