Overall: An exercise in how not to run an establishment.
My friends and I wanted to go out and grab a couple drinks, so we thought The English Pub would be a perfect meeting spot. Unfortunately things started to go downhill fast. After the hostess asked how many were in our party she just walked away. We were confused as if we were to follow her or perhaps she was checking on a table, I don't know. She turned around when she was 10 steps away and waved us over, oh OK we were supposed to follow her.
We sat outside because the inside was packed, which was fine with us. Two of our party hadn't arrived yet so our server asked if we wanted to wait until they got there to order. Heck no, we wanted drinks ASAP. I asked our server, Kyle, what beers were on tap and he proceeded to name off all the American beers (Bud, Bud Lite, Coors, etc.) first. I thought we were at an English Pub! I ordered a Stella when he finally named it off. One friend tried to order a Bass, nope they don't have it. Then he tried to order a Harp and Kyle said, "I have never seen that here. I can ask if we have it." Seriously? My friend just got a Bud Lite.
The rest of our party was running late, but Kyle and the hostess asked us if they were still planning to join us about four separate times. We thought we were holding up a table or something, but as we looked around we saw several open tables in the outdoor area. At that point we just felt unwelcome and wanted to leave. We signed the receipt and Kyle came over, abruptly grabbed the receipt to look at his tip, then looked at us and said, "Have a good night." Wow, what a mess. We left as fast as we could.
TL;DR: Service is lacking but if you must go, sit at the bar and cross your fingers for good service.
My review is one of those mixed bag type. Â The English Pub, in its new location, has a better atmosphere then the old place which felt like a cave dust and all. Â They have a nice outside area in the court yard for outdoor dining.
Pros: Â Outdoor area, new location has better atmosphere, good selection of beer and nice bar area
Cons: Â Don't bother ordering any food. Â
Really, they moved but they brought same bland too greasy, horrible food with them. Â I've been to England and not all of the food there is terrible. Â Come on you can do better. Â I'm writing this review with the common English Pub grease stomach, I was hoping wouldn't be there. Â My wife wife decided to play it safe and order a bowl of French Onion soup. Â Turned out the bread, in the soup, was literally rock hard. Â At first we thought it was still frozen.
The manager happened by soon after our discovery and said sorry and took the offending rock away and never returned.
Remember skip the food.
Went with a group of friends. Â Beer selection was fine and carbonated for those beers requiring it and they also have a cask beer selection: Â beer was fresh. Â Beer prices are reasonable and the happy hour provides excellent prices. Â
Menu for bar food/appetizers is limited and quality just average and prices on the expensive end for what you get. Â The fish and chips had an off taste that can result from old oil/fat in the fryer, fish was not very tasty and crust came across as burnt. Â Fries were great but I wouldn't order this again. Â Geeze, can't an English pub perfect this simple dish?
I did enjoy the atmosphere and they show plenty of English soccer.
Overall, average, I'll go to down a few beers and skip eating at this place. Â One note, there are many, many elderly/seniorss who eat there and believe me, like many Naples restaurants that cater to retirees, quality and taste are not important, just make it low cost and/or throw on the salt and most older folks will eat it. Â Ok, settle down on this comment, but it is true as I have lived in and around retirement communities for the past ten years and I think I know what I'm talking about.
