EFF YEAH!
Here is a re-cap of our time at the hood:
We ordered one giant draft beer, one normal sized draft beer and a shot of whiskey. The bartender tells us that it'll be $14. Maybe we've been living in LA too long, but we were shocked at such a low number for quality craft beers and decent whiskey. There were several rounds of this, and they were all full of win!
I LOVE bar games. I'm pretty sure I may have been conceived in a bar because the only talent I came out of the womb with is being able to play all bar games fairly well. They have a tornado foosball table (no cheap plastic guys here!), two ping pong tables, beer pong tables, darts, pool and CORNHOLE! Yes, I felt like I was in college again and I loved it!
We decided to sit out on the front patio with the grown-ups and ended up making friends with some very cool local guys who almost talked me into moving to SB and gave us a ride to the bowl to catch a concert. Who does that?!
We took a cab back after the show, which worked out unbelievably well since we were in desperate need of fun food. Their waffle fries and BBQ chicken pizza totally hit the spot.
I love the neighborhood, and the good people of SB!
Menu says "food available until midnight", so I ordered food at 11:42PM only to be told that the kitchen closes at 11:30PM. Meanwhile, my friend ordered a minute before me, and apparently he was the last order of the night. Don't lie on your menu, Neighborhood. The boss was sitting at the bar watching everything and did nothing to remedy the situation. Good move, guys.
Review Source:The NEIGHBORHOOD CORNER BAR ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Their happy hour is the greates and the drinks are strong AS F*@K... I had 2 shots of patron a 16oz Dos Equis and stolicranberry all for $20.
They have all kinds of games i.e. pool table , 2 ping pong tables, corn hole and fuseball. Â They also have a newyly rebuilt deck in the back which is very nice and that is where they host all the beer pong games.
All in All this is a VERY FUN BAR!!! You must visit when in S.B.
My favorite place in SB!!
This is an overall great place to go any day of the week. Good average priced drink list. Great low priced happy hour. The food is top notch for bar food! Like seriously really good!!!
Ping pong, beer pong, corn hole, pool. You can play tons of games here with your friends!! Or go Fri-Sun to find a ton of awesome people ready to challenged you to a game or two!
I will say as a warning, this is kind of a dive bar. For those of you looking for a super clean hip place, you may want to pass. But its just the place for people who like dive bars!
The food here is better than the Brewhouse. Â My wife enjoyed her beer, of which they have plenty. Â We ordered a cheeseburger, waffle fries, pear and Gorgonzola pizza, and buffalo wings. Â Nice place for pretty good if you're a foodie. Â Only complaint is there was tomato sauce on the pizza, which is weird. Â We will get it sans sauce next time. Â Plenty of games, like pool, foozball, table tennis, etc.; all free by allowing them to hold your ID card. Â Will definitely be back!
Review Source:This place is fun but kind of grundgey. Even though it says no smoking on the back patio they let people chain smoke to their hearts content (AKA you will have to shower and wash all of your clothes when you get home b/c you will smell like an ash tray). I do like the beer pong and their drinks are relatively affordable.
Review Source:This is defiantly my fav spot to hang out at with all my friends!! It has everything that a drunk person needs to have fun with.
- Many beer pong tables in the huge back outdoor area for all the games you can think of.
-Corn hole
-Ping pong :)
-Foose ball
-Pool
-Video games
-TV's everywhere
-Juke box
The best bar food EVER!! No joke! They have the best fries!! Any kind you can think of with all the fixings! Pizza there is to die for! BBQ chicken pizza and the pear and Gorgonzola is amazing!!!
Happy hour is great! Good selection of beers and friendly staff!
Easy walking distance to state street and you can draw on the walls with chalk! So much fun!!!
We ducked into this little bar in an attempt to wait out a horrific traffic jam on the 101 recently. Â GREAT prices on beer and shots (we stuck to beer). Â Interesting decor with chalkboard paint on all the walls.
LOVED the tri-tip nachos!! Â I'm going to try to recreate them at home.
Did not love the bathroom. Â It was pretty dirty. Â Also, people smoke in the front and back outdoor areas, effectively filling the inside with smoke as well. Â Gross, but not a deal breaker.
We will definitely go here again when we're in the area.
There is nothing they can do to this place to get me to give it five stars! Â Â It just isn't a five star kind of place if you know what I mean. Â Â As far as I am concerned they do it all right and they have the highest score possible for a somewhat divey neighborhood bar. Â Â
I go there once a month for trivia which is outside on the patio. Â We gather around six or seven beer pong tables, that should be enough to get them their first star! Â Official beer pong tables! Â Lucky's should have that! Â In addition they have some video games, a pool table and a couple of ping pong tables. Â Â It is kind of a bar/arcade. Â Â
The place is pretty chill. Â Seems to be locals only and has it's share of regulars. Â Happy hour is good. Â Drinks are cheap and good and there is actually quite a variety of food. Â Â Appitizers, Pizza, sandwiches and salads. Â I am surprised that the food is very well cooked and tasty. Â Amongst the salads and sandwiches there are even a couple of healthy options. Â Â Don't get me wrong, the Brewhouse next door has better food at higher prices but for what it is, this place is really darn good!
Like I said, they can't really do anything better and still be the bargain that they are. Â While I would encourage the tourists to try just about anything else that Santa Barbara has to offer, let's keep this place just to ourselves!
happy hour is great if you make it. Ping Pong and karaoke usually fill this place up with an interesting mix of older folks and college kids. They have a kitchen that serves food and they have TVS and pool too! Not located within the downtown digs of State St., this crowd seems to be a lot more mellow. They have a decent sized front patio with heaters and lots of seating so large groups are definitely welcomed. The walls on the inside are decorated with colored chalk scribbles and if you get too drunk to drive, they have nicely inscribed on the walkway above the entrance with chalk, several phone numbers to local taxi companies. Fun place.
Review Source:Things to do at the Neighborhood:
+Get there early for Happy Hour.
+Play ping pong with a Pabst Tall Boy in hand. (Because nothing says classy like...)
+Drunkenly scribble on the chalkboard.
+Curse the ping pong balls that keep flying at your table.
+When you're nice and sauced, order a pizza. And maybe some fries. Because, well, why not?
State St. is filled with overly crowded, overly dressed, overly priced bars and clubs to satisfy the masses of college students and young professionals alike. However, The Neighborhood is easily one of my favorite bars in Santa Barbara, conveniently located NOT on State St.
I used to come here frequently as a student at SBCC... And still pop in while visiting to partake in some debauchery with the locals. The Hood is a very casual place with a local-y feel... A great alternative to the herds of college chicks in mini dresses/heels tromping down State St. The crowd is diverse and interesting, totally approachable and fun.
They have ping-pong, pool, buck hunter, a plethora of beer pong tables and even corn hole! The happy hour deals are awesome and the food is actually really good. (I believe their happy hour even goes until 9pm!!) Â The beach is only a couple blocks away and the neighboring Brewhouse is always alive with Santa Barbarians.
Some of the bartenders can come off as arrogant and cocky, even if you know them by first name and tip them well. It's hard to blame them after seeing some of the crap they put up with from drunk patrons, though! Long hours and rude customers will put anyone in a bad mood!
All in all, this is an awesome place with awesome people. If you're in Santa Barbara and looking for a place to drink that doesn't have the touristy appeal of State St. I would highly recommend popping into The Hood for some food, fun, and alcoholic beverages.
Good happy hour
I came here early one evening for a drink and some chicken wings. While eating my delicious wings i noticed the happy hour specials. It seems like happy hour never really ends until 11pm the drinks then turn to normal prices.
Not a bad place to hang out witg friends, they have pool, fooseball, ping ping tables and a new jukebox.
Great spot to hang out with buddies and knock a few down. Their happy hour is just amazing! One of the best in SB! Their beer selection is great, too. I had the Blue Moon on tap, which was wonderful. And for only $10, you could grab an ice cold premium draft, a cheeseburger, and french fries! And the food is good, exceeding bar food standards! Â Inside they have the typical TVs, but also ping-pong, pool, and even a room with beer pong tables.
Now I've been to quite a few bars in SB and this place is really the most satisfying in terms of atmosphere. It's unpretentious, serene, and relaxing, which is just the kind of place that you'd expect a bar to be, especially after a hard day's work. It's located in the more hidden parts of Santa Barbara, so it's never too crowded, even at HH. I highly recommend.
After reading all of the yelp reviews I was looking forward to coming here. Cool concept for a bar.. But it's wayyy too divey for me. And I do love dive bars but I felt super out of place and kinda unwanted as if we had like ten heads. Crowd ranged from young, my age (20's) to mid 40's. But had an overall same feel - grungy. Sorry. Â And yeah they had a lot of beer on tap but nothing great worth making the trip for. Stick with the beer though because the one cocktail I did have tasted like just soda. Most people were drinking coors.. Yeahhh.. Like that.
One star for trying with all of the games.
Alcohol. Table tennis. Beer pong. and a game I never heard of "Cornhole"...ALL IN ONE BAR??? WHATTTT?!
Amazing. Simply amazing. This bar makes me wish I lived in Santa Barbara.
It also makes me wish I was still in college... made me feel young and thriving!
Couple friends and I went on a Saturday afternoon to watch a football game, drink some beer, and have a snack. They have a great happy hour for $12 beer of pitcher, but only selection of 4 beers (but still a pretty good deal). Â Played a little bit of table tennis, which was super fun buzzed...then proceeded to play a couple rounds of cornhole, which I never even heard of before, but I can probably say is the best game ever with a group of 4.
All in all...The Neighborhood is a great dive bar.
Ps. they even have a breathalyzer to check if you can drink & drive! LOL~
ehh... this place is dece. It's an overpriced bar that doesn't know if it wants to be a dive or a sports bar. Who charges $15 for a pitcher of Coors Right? Your bar isn't THAT tight. Get over yourself.
Also, I love beer pong. Don't get me wrong. It's the only thing I'm good at in life, buuuut when your urinals are overflowing into the hallway and the beer pong balls are landing in it AND people are still playing with those balls.... ehhh
This place popped up on my yelp app the last time I was in Santa Barbara.
After reading Mike Q's awesome review about the Neighborhood, we decided to give it a try.
I'm not sure what was here before, but this place is a great place to go for happy hour. Â
Our group ordered a ton of food to eat:
Salad
Pizza
Wings
Curly Fries
All of it was good. Â The food here is better than your average bar food. Â The fries were made well. Â The pizza was cheesy. Â The wings were super tangy. Â The salad was healthy!
I would come back here again for Happy Hour. Â
Also there are a ton of things you can do here to waste your time away. Â Including playing on e of their arcade games, playing beer pong on their tables, writing cool messages on their chalkboard wall.
The patio is a nice spot to hang out in on a warm Sunday afternoon. . . if you don't mind the smokers.
To me it seems obvious to awake from my yelping dormancy to write a review about a place I find myself far too often, The Neighborhood. Â Why do I love this bar. Â Because it reinforces every deadly sin slash vice I have. Â
Gluttony: Â I have eaten way too much delicious, cheap, well-prepared food. Â How could I resist a litany of appetizers under $5? Â I have also gone all out and ordered the pizza. Â The Neighborhood has played a large role in me not being able to rid myself of cellulite and love handles. Â The next vice you ask? Â
Sloth: Â Not only does the Hood provide me decadent eats, it provides me with much cheap alcohol. Â I usually drink so much that I am rendered useless the next day and laze about. Â
Wrath and Pride: Â On top of booze and food, there are a myriad of games to choose from. Â As I lose a game of cornhole I begin to get upset and yell a variety of epithets at my opponent. Â I also find myself boasting if I find myself suddenly winning.
Lust: Â As I down my drinks I suddenly find a lot of the people in the bar a lot more attractive. Â And you know the rest is... history.
God forgive me, but I love coming here.
I spent a happy afternoon/evening here at the Neighborhood being a literal and figurative bro. Literally because I was with two of my sisters, and figuratively, because we played ping-pong, drew on the walls with chalk, and watched some cornhole action out back. (Get your head out of the gutter, it was just bean-bag toss, pervs.)
Yeah, this is a quintessential bro bar with bar games, and cheap cheap prices. How can you go wrong with a happy hour that lasts 'til 8pm, including several food deals? And if you check in with your Yelp app, you get $1 off after happy hour ends.
Minus 1 star only because I overheard what suspiciously sounded like a textbook drug deal being conducted in the patio out front.
I am a fan! The food was surprisingly good (for bar food) and cheap (it's $3.95 appetizers if you go during Happy Hour). Â The drinks were good and relatively inexpensive. Â And there different activites to do to entertain yourself while you're here. You can relax at a booth and chat with friends or strangers; engage in a game of ping pong, beer pong or fooze ball; or write/draw on their chalkboard walls.
The Neighborhood Bar is a great, unpretentious place to go to eat, drink and have a good time with a group of friends. I'm definitely returning the next time I'm in SB.
Please choose one or multiple of the following:
If you are looking for a place to:
1. Hang out with a small, medium or large group of friends
2. Eat tasty $3.50/4.50 appetizers (during Happy Hour)
3. Drink lots of pitchers of beer, well drinks and shots
4. Chat over one of the many games playing on their tv screens
5. Exploit your inebriated habits of competition by playing ping pong
6. Exploit and heighten your inebriated habits of competition by playing beer pong
7. Exploit your inebriated habits of competition by playing pool
8. Give lots of high fives to people who are equally as happy as you
9. Lounge in a booth after playing several intense games of beer pong
10. Leave full, happy, and feeling glorious after a day/evening/night of good ol' active drinking and fun.
Really, I don't even think you need to partake in the alcohol to have fun here, there's alway something to do, which is what I think makes The Neighborhood so unique.
This is a great place to bring friends (in general) AND bring friends who are visiting Santa Barbara and want to experience a laid back, one stop shop with everything you need to keep you busy for the entire night.
Beer pong! Chalk boards with explicit drawings! Cheap drinks!
Seriously, why didn't I think of this place? Whomever opened this place is a genius. Â It's not some place my wife and I would go for happy hour, but if you're down to party with a group or meet some new people then this is the place!
I'm officially making the Neighborhood my pre-party spot in Santa Barbara. Â No doubt!
I picked up this place because it was nearby SBCC, Â cheap during Happy Hour, and had 4.5 stars in yelp.
Now, I can trust yelp.
I and my friend had ...
Vodka with pineapple juice  $4
Margarita  $4
Quesadillas  $3.50
Both cocktail had enough alcohol and tasted good.
Though we were kept waiting for 15-20 min, the quesadillas was amazing! It was stuffed with many things such as chicken, avocado, cheese and so on.
Actually I expected a kind of frozen food since the price was super cheap, but  the quesadillas we had was worth $7-8. I think.
I'll definitely come back here!! You can have so much fun for less than $10!!
Being a Santa Barbara City College student The Neighborhood is naturally a great place to go and hang out after a long day in classes!
This past semester after my last final, my friends and I decided to have a party at The Neighborhood. Location-wise, The Neighborhood is a quick 5-minute walk from Santa Barbara City College and the nearby apartments and the atmosphere there is really cool. It really is a "neighborhood" bar!
When we got there it was busy but there was still plenty of room. We ordered some pitchers, a couple of pizzas and come appetizers. It took a while to get the food but it was hot and really good.
There are plenty of activities including outdoor beer pong, foosball, ping pong, pool and arcade games. We all had a great time playing games and talking. The people who needed to smoke (not me) could go outside and the bar had everything we were looking for.
After a couple of hours we decided to move the party down to State Street but The Neighborhood served as a great starting point for a great night! I'm sure I'll be back to The Neighborhood many times this next semester!
This is an inexpensive, run of the mill, neighborhood bar. I walked here after reading all of the hype on Yelp and hearing from locals that it's a great place.
What did I miss?
Sure, 15 beers on draft is great, but when your best beer is Alaskan IPA, you're not setting the bar very high. In their defense, most of the patrons here were ordering tall cans of High Life and PBR. They had a great happy hour of $4 u-call-it's so I had a Belvedere rocks and took off.
While I was there, I glanced at the menu, consisting of fried foods, checked out the beer pong tables, and watched some guys play ping pong. OK.... give me something unique to prove that you're a good bar like everyone says.
Overall, it's an ok place to drink if you live in the neighborhood, but this is by no means a great bar. The amateurs drinking here need to see a good bar.
This is one of THE locals bars in SB. From college kids to businessmen, everyone goes to the hood' to have some cheap drinks, sit out back, play some ping pong or to have some of their yummy and greasy bar food.
The bar tenders are friendly and pour good drinks. They are used to dealing with everyone, from the stoned college kids to bikers who hang out there on Saturdays. The food selection is what you would expect, but it's actually fairy cheap and tastes pretty good.
If you're from out of town and want to get away from State Street, head over to the Hood and to the Brewhouse next door. You'll be happy you did, plus you'll get a break from all the fake LA/OC/Jersey Shore tools who seem to wonder up to SB on the weekends.
Go here. You'll be happy! I promise!
3.5 stars
After watching Jason Mraz perform live at the SB Beach Festival last Friday some of the girls and I decided to go bar hopping on State St.
Yay~! Jason~! Sorry...had to get it out of my system.
Anyway, we kinda stumbled upon this place on our walk to State St. We walked in and it was as if the music stopped and some aliens walked in. Well, first of all...it was because it was mostly guys in this joint and second because...apparently, 4 Asian girls in this place is not a very common thing.
It seemed like a pretty chill place to hang out. Just your typical "neighborhood" bar with ping pong tables and video games. It was only $16 for 2 beers and 2 Goose and bulls~!! It's either this place is really cheap or we got hooked up.
Unfortunately though, because of the douchebag-esque crowd, we bounced after one drink.
This place is great for happy hour, the best one might say...
I almost shit myself when I realized that these generous bartenders allow you to order any drink you would like for the bargain basement price of $4. Â Yes, that is right folks! You want a Grey Goose and tonic? 4 bucks... How about a nice big glass of Knob Creek? Â That's only going to cost you 4 smackers...How about something classy like a glass of Hennesey? 4 dollar make you holla...
Oh well so you need some food to settle that stomach? Â They got you covered on that too. Â How about a steamy hot pizza pie? 4 dollars you say... Â I know those big ol' samaches are more then 4 bucks. Â You are wrong again, those will only lighten you pocket of 16 quarters.
All that drinking and eating now you are feeling bored. Â Well you too can take a beating on the FREE ping pong tables as I did not but 24hours ago. Â Ping Pong not your game, well soak in some sports on a LG flat screen (LG pretty classy) . Â Oh did I mention that the flat screen is outside on their spacious patio area. Â
This place is dope, and I just discovered it like a lame. Â
**If you are a tourist or and asshole please don't come to this place, you will not enjoy it.
Growing up in SB and dealing with all the lame ass tourists and spoiled college students who try to make our town pertentious and fake...it's sooooo nice to have a place to go to for a beer in the sun and be with The Neighborhood peeps! Â They are down to earth, real, primarily locals who offer cheap beers, and dank beers for those with more distinguished tastebuds, have a nice open front patio and back that is perfect for a sunny day and it's far far away, practically hidden from the State Street idiots who don't know the real SB. Â And most of all, it's within steps of the Brophy's, Brewhouse bar crawl that I always do when I go home for a visit! Â No foreigners will be found in here with their cameras and annoying kids!
Thank you Neighborhood for keeping it real and honest and always a good spot to just sit and relax with close friends and of course parents!
I want to go for Five stars, but its not quite there.
This place was within walking distance of my hotel and so it got the weekend nod as the drinking establishment.
With some good brew on tap, such as Sunshine wheat, mixed in with standards like PBR on tap all for 4 bucks a pint, and mixed drinks for 5 bucks its not a bad deal.
Outdoor patio area, combined with indoor open space, a normal bar, and some booths makes for diverse seating options.
Ping Pong tables a pool table and two Big Buck Hunter games make for some amusing entertainment.
Most importantly. Â Bar tenders. They make or break a bar.
Nick and the rest of the guys there get an A from me.
I introduced myself early, and my group got A+ service the rest of the night. Actually all the nights we were there.
The crowd is mixed older locals and college kids. Though mostly College kids. But that did not disturb me despite some annoying bar manners, or lack thereof.
Nice place, I will return next time I am in Santa Barbara.
1. They have BIG BUCK HUNTER PRO. Hunting without really killing anything... other than my soul because I suck. They also have other fun games like ping pong and foosball but I suck at both those games, too.
2. Santa Barbara cab numbers written on the chalkboard walls...
3. Ample seating
4. Fun and different (and sometimes not-so-different) music. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a little T-Pain but sometimes ya just wanna hear some old school Michael Jackson
5. All of the above and below.
6. During my most recent visit, I got a Vanilla Stoli and Ginger Ale for $4 (pre-tip) which got me pretty tipsy/extremely happy.
So basically, I love this place. A good night = Press Room + Cab Ride + Neighborhood + Chili Cheese Fries 4rm Mad Dogs + Sleep
Yes, it used to be that gay bar. Now it's one of my favorite places to go. The Neighborhood is located next to the Blue Collar Bistro (And owned by the same) and the Brew House. Very cool, open atmosphere. They have a digital jukebox for your listening pleasure (or displeasure when some cowboy puts in $20 and plays every song on the album). There are a lot of booths and several flat-screen TVs for you sports fans. The drinks are reasonably priced and you can order food from the Blue Collar Bistro.
What I like best are the games! They have two ping-pong tables setup in the middle of the bar (in addition to the small pool table). On top of that they have a bunch of random board games for you to play (i.e. Rummicube, Truth/Dare Jenga, Clue, etc.). Usually we'll just cruise down there and get a pitcher or two and play dominoes. But it is a great destination if you aren't trying to go Downtown to the State St. scene. It can get really packed here too on random nights, but I've found that it will usually begin to slow down after 12. All in all it is a great find. Check it.
***December 07 Update: Rendevouzed with my girlfriend in Santa Barbara. We both went to school there and we wanted to get away for the weekend. Kinda over the old hussle and bussle of the usual State St. haunts, we went over to the Neighborhood for a visit. They had some sweet upgrades since the last time I was there. There was a band playing mainly covers inside, but a good mix. What was awesome is that they finally opened up the back patio... AMAZING! They had basketball hoops on both ends of the patio, foosball, ping-pong tables and a bunch of double overhead space heaters. Had a great time and it felt good to be back in Santa Barbara.
