Neighbors has become a staple in the Waukesha area because of the quality of the food and the people who run it. Â
Neighbors is a place to bring the family, have a beer, play some Golden Tee, watch the game, and have a great meal. Â The place is upscale without being pretentious, and the clientele is a cool mix of young and old, professional and blue collar.
Food is homemade and ingredients are fresh. Â Appetizers are handmade. Â The fish fry is top notch and burgers are great, too. Â Also, they have the best GRILLED wings.
Like a desperate woman on a date in dogged pursuit for Mr. Right, I sooooo wanted this eating experience to be a great one. Â But unfortunately it just didn't work out. Â The place wasn't a bad looking place. Â It was modern and clean enuf. Â But it was just a little too, hmmm, how can I put this nicely, "RED" for my taste. Â When we walked in one of the people behind the bar just stopped in his tracks like a deer caught in the head lights. Â Almost with a "what you doing in my Bar Willis" type of attitude. Â And being that I am such a fan of Gary Coleman, I found his rude lack of custumer service instead to be quite charming. (sarcasm alert).
Luckily when we got to our seat, our server was alot nicer. Â However the service was very slow(And the place was NOT crowded). Â We were here on a Friday and I decided to try the "Trifecta" Â (I think that's what it was called). Â Anyhoo it's a fish fry platter that is a combinmation of cod, walley and blue gil, sounds yum yum don't it? Â Well the "sound" of yum is about as close to yum as you are going to get. . Â This entre was absoloutley horrible. Â And let me use my New York accent when I say this..... Â HARRABLE! Â It was nothing but a tray full of grease. Â In fact there was paper under the fish and it was soaked in grease. The breading was nasty, the tarter sauce was lame and every single piece of fish on that plate tasted exactly the same. Â It was disgusting. Â
Now why am I NOT givng this place one star? Â Because I know that there are people out there who enjoy places that are a little red, so this place may be for you.
I also know that  there are many big fat Wisconsinites out there who love a big greasy plate of slop, so to them, this is gourmet cooking.  Don't get me wrong, I am not a food saint.  I'm all for a nice greasy sinful meal, but for all that is holy, it atleast has to taste good.  If I'm clogging my arteries it just can't be for the sake of clogging my arteries, know what I mean?  I am also not giving this place one star because inspite of it all I think we had a fairly decent server.   But that isn't enough for me to ever go back there and "Neighbors" is something that we will never be.  I'm sure the bartender will be sad to hear that one.
We were in for the first time on Saturday, Memorial Day weekend. Great, friendly, prompt service. The food was fantastic! Ordered the Grilled Cheese Burger, chili, chicken wings and italian beef sandwich. Definitely coming back to try the pizza! Love that we have a place to go that isn't a chain and is nearby!
Review Source:Food exceeded my expectations. Clean, well-kept place. Seems like a solid bar.
Went here over lunch break last week. The bar overall is a little on the smallish side, but it's clean and has a lot of TVs showing sports type programming. The menu contains most of the expected pub fare (Burgers, sandwiches, etc.). I ordered a Cuban sandwich with sweet potato fries. The prices aren't cheap, so this definitely is not a dive bar. It more than I thought it should take for the food to be prepared, but the meal was EXTREMELY FRESH so it was well worth it. You can tell they really do their best back in the kitchen and don't cut corners. Solid meal. I put this place maybe a step below, but close to places like Bushy's in Muskego or Matty's in New Berlin.
All in all, not too bad a place. Definitely beats chain restaurants.
We tried Neighbors because of a restaurant.co certificate, on a Friday night in mid December at 7:45. Â It is more bar than grill and was very loud and brightly lit.
The food however was very good! Â Surprisingly so!
We decided we will return, but probably for a Saturday lunch.
We both had fish entrees - and some of the best beer battered cod my hubs has had in several years.
Most of the items are house made, had a nice chat with our server, but did not enjoy the last table available, a hi top as close to the doorway as you can be without getting hit by the door. Â
Very good casual menu, we loved the house made mozzerella sticks.
I have to admit the greatest pull this place has is that it's minutes from my house, but beyond that there's much to enjoy!
My family and I visit the Neighbor's quite frequently (read: weekly) and there's nothing I've tried on the menu I haven't liked. The staff is friendly and engaging and the people watching is top notch.
Location: It's somewhat "off the beaten path". If you're not looking for it, it's possible to miss this place as it literally looks like it could be your neighbor's house. There's a pretty spacious bar and a good number of pub height tables and standard dining tables. The only times I've ever had to wait for a seat are during playoff Brewer games and on a Friday. There's ample parking unless it's one of the two times mentioned above (and even then, there's places to park you just might have to walk down a semi-dark street to an abandoned industrial park. No biggie.)
Food: The food is delicious. Everything is home made including their soups and desserts and you can tell. The family who owns the restaurant all have a very impressive culinary background and experience (you can read more on their website). By far the standout dish is their Friday Fish Fry. They've got a plethora of options to please any Fish Fry connoisseur. And some of the best potato pancakes I've had in the Milwaukee area. Their prices are very moderate, especially if you're enjoying one of their nightly specials (we're a big fan of their Thursday Wing specials - they're grilled and fantastic!)
Service: The staff are all very friendly and efficient, even when it's crowded and busy. It's a small staff so you're bound to see a familiar face after a couple of visits.
I would love to try this place after reading all of the good reviews, but I am afraid that the wife of the owner will either not let me in, or eject me if she sees me.
For some reason the wife of the owner is angry with me for life. I didn't do anything wrong either.
Have the owners explain!!!
The only reason I go to this bar and grill is because I can walk to the place from my house, but it is a fine place to grab a bite and a drink. I get the chicken wrap with the wild sauce almost every  time I'm there and it's great. Staff is nice and the service is quick and easy.
The crowd here is always interesting to watch.... it's a mix of all different types of Waukesha, Brookfield and New Berlin townies + bikers.
