Love this place. Great french onion soup! Awesome beer selection and they are even open in the winter after all the tourist have left. Stop by and grab the seat near the fireplace. PS I am looking for the wooden nickels that they give you when you buy a beer. If you have any that you want to get rid of or would like to sell please email me.

Cool British-style pub in the old whaling village of Edgartown (don't get your hopes up--unfortunately there is no actual whale on the menu), housed in a building that is older than America itself (1742!). I am a complete history dork so this was right up my alley, and the stonework walls and exposed wooden ceiling beams (original, I was told) give the Newes an authentic pub feel. The fact that Edgartown is not one of the Vineyard's several dry towns also helps, as the serving of beer is pretty crucial to the "authentic pub feel".

To that end we started with a round of nutbrown ales from the Offshore Ale Co., brewed right there on the island. Delicious. I got my Molly Malone on and had the cockles & mussels for dinner. When I ordered the waitress asked if I wanted a side of bread to soak up the broth in which the shellfish is served. I agreed, somewhat dismissively, because how good could a bowl of clam juice be that I'm going to need my own side of bread (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DSP_9zH9Q44o&s=2d4877b77d9f0a8e246b526a8e2534a58f243a115422b334ed307d3db2e70cf0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>)? I'll be damned if I didn't nearly bite the hand off that selfsame waitress for trying to clear my plate before I had sopped up every last drop of that sweet, sweet broth. Really outstanding. The lady had the lobster mac n' cheese (with BACON) that was phenomenal but so intensely rich that we couldn't even finish off the entire order between 4 people. Auntie had a reuben that looked fairly amazing. I didn't even notice what Uncle had because the big bastard polished off his plate in about 8 seconds, and then started sniffing around the lobster mac.

Most items on Martha's Vineyard are outlandishly expensive, even by my warped San Francisco standards, but the Newes is one of the more reasonably priced places to grab a bite, certainly in that area. We were attempting to treat the Aunt & Unc to dinner as a thank-you for letting us stay with them on our vacation, but my aunt slyly palmed her credit card and thrust it on the waitress before I could even get my hands on the bill, the sneaky, generous jerk.

The Newes manages to balance on a knife edge between gimmicky tourist spot and local institution. They can get away with the cheese of a menu styled as a newspaper (complete with digs at Summer people) simply because they are GOOD.

They have their own beers, but they aren't brewed on site, not even on Island. They are kegged for the Newes by a brewer in Providence.
Nonetheless, the beers are good, and $12 will get you a flight of any five of the beers they have on draft, including their own. I would highly recommend it!

Our group of four got clam chowder, fish and chips (with green beans instead of fries, no problem!), a chili cheese dog, and a lobster roll. The chili cheese dog has to be seen to be believed, which is why I added a picture for my fellow Yelpers.

Not one bite of food was leftover.

I would recommend against the light with lime, as along with the lime they add sweetener to the beer. It is just not a good thing. This was remedied by our waitress, who was friendly and accommodating, without an issue.

If you are strolling through Edgartown and find your stomach grumbling, head to the Newes for a relaxing respite.

Check out what else they have to offer for food and beers. <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kelley-house.com%2Fnewes.pdf&s=5879cba858d04368cb58ad72a74bc3432585fded99814584e16c0b04de824942" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.kelley-house.…</a>

Awesome atmosphere, great beers on tap. Menu is a little limited but everything on it is delicious! Have only tried the red and lighter beers but they are simply awesome. Imagine that the heavier beers are also good. Be prepared for a wait on holiday weekends or any Fri. and Sat. during the season. Worth the wait. You will not be disappointed.

Cozy little pub with 11 taps of local beers, cider, and root beer.
100 yr old ceiling with round skinned beams. They provide sampler flights of the local beers which is always welcome.  I would recommend this to any local beer aficionado.

I lived in Martha's Vineyard for a brief spell one fall/winter and this was my hideout. I would go here and read, eat clam chowder and fish and chips sipping on their delightful house brews till my stomach tore from its lining. Food from the UK gets a bad wrap, but from what little time I've spent over there and subsequent developed affinity for the potato based delicacies, it's a lot better than the reputation. Please! Fry that cod! And... and... why NOT serve it with fried potatoes! And... please... potato soup! And ANYTHING tastes better with a double pint! There's a great little nook by the fire place, with a coffee table and nice, plush chairs. And be sure and ask your waitress for wooden nickels with your pints! Collect enough and you get a short-yard with your name on it, held for you at the bar!
