It's places like these that really make me smile. Small town bar and restaurant really kicking ass at what they do.
Sat at the bar and played games on my phone while waiting for my food. I tried really hard to make pleasant conversation with the bartender lady but she wasn't really having it. Oh well.
Ordered an irish coffee to stave of my impending headache. It mostly worked.
To start I had the boneless chicken wings with the thai chili sauce. Tasty and spicy and sweet and yum. The preparation was a little haphazard but it got the job done right. I don't regret this.
Had the Jack Daniels burger for my entree. I asked them to add caramelized onions (because I saw it on another burger) and that did not happen but luckily, I lived. It was still quite delicious and also HUGE. I didn't even finish half of it.
Glanced at the dessert menu but it was pretty uninspired so I passed. The meal wasn't exactly cheap but I did have a lot to eat and I probably could have split it.
On the off chance that I'm in Monticello again I'm definitely returning to the Nugget. Gotta get my nugget on.
The only reason I would be up in this neck of the woods is for the golf. Â Played Grossingers in the morning and needed some nourishment (read beer and burger) for the afternoon round at the Concord.
From the outside it does not look like much. Â But once in it is homey with a full menu that anyone could order from. Â Our foursome stuck with the burgers (of which there was at least 12 to choose from). Â Cooked perfectly to order, fantastic char, and perfect ratio of beef, to bread, to condiments. Â Home made fries that were crisp and seasoned perfectly. Â For 8.95 I may make the 2 hour trip north the next time I need a good burger.
BTW found this place using my Yelp app. Â Thanks to the previous reviewers.
We were vacationing on Lake Joseph, we decided that we were going to go out instead  of grill for a night. The recommendation from a staff member was Buona Fortuna, an Italian Resturant.  As we pulled into the empty parking lot, a bell went off in my head. Just because we are not in NYC, why am I simply taking one person's recommendation instead of using Yelp?!!
And, validated once again, Yelppers convinced us not to dine at the 1st place and to choose the Nugget instead.
Place was the perfect non-pretentious spot for us. The menu is seemingly never ending. There is pretty much nothing you could ask for that wasn't listed. That has us a little worried as it looked like a glorified diner menu.
We started with the prime rib french fries with gravy. Yes. Thats right. Prime Rib French fries. They had at least five different types of fries and these did not disappoint.
Main course were Fried chicken and the "nugget" cut Prime Rib.
Fried chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy, crispy while being greasy AT ALL. The dark meat was especially good!
After speaking to Chef Andrew, I went with the roughly 2 lb Nugget cut Prime Rib. Over 3" high on the plate, it was a nice piece of meat. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
Staff was great. We sat at the bar and the bartender was personable and engaging without being intrusive. As I had mentioned, chef came out and was speaking with the customers. It is very much a neighborhood place and was pretty full on a tuesday night for dinner.
The only knock would be that my meal as per the menu was supposed to come with soup, salad & Â bread basket but none were offered. I was OK with that though as I knew what the size of the piece of beef coming. I am confident that if I had asked, they would have accommodated me apologetically. Â
Prices were great...but that may just because I have no idea what things cost outside NYC. Lol.
All the above food & bud lights $100 with tax and tip.
The Nugget literally has something for everyone. While I'm not a fan of chicken, I cannot get enough of their chicken parmesan. Â It's the most tender butter milk fried chicken you can get. Their homemade french fries and Nugget chips are always perfectly fried but not over greasy. Fresh seafood and burgers as well as turkey platters and paninis. Great options for vegetarians too. They tend to have live music on Saturday nights. Â Friendly and attentive wait staff.
