Fantastic beer selection! Â Often have Cask parties on Wednesdays where they'll get a specialty cask of a crowd favorite, with lots of giveaways. Â Staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable about beer & whiskeys, and can recommend different ones for beginners. Â Love the atmosphere, very Irish, very dark, very friendly.
Review Source:The best place in College Station to get a beer hands down. Â There is a great old worn in pub feel. Â Dark wood everywhere, tables scattered, interesting art work on the wall. Â This is not a sports bar, but there are plenty of TV's for all the Aggies to keep up with their preferred sports. Â Though when there is no game, the TV's are not just blaring ESPN for no reason. Â Very chill at off times, or when no game on.
Anyway, the service is very informative and knowledgeable. Â There is a beer club of sorts for the beer ticker. Â A very good selection of all things booze. Â A good selection of whiskey, and the best beer selection until you get to Houston. Â Plenty of locals like Saint Arnold, now Karback, and always Real Ale. Â A good mix of international and out of state imports. Â Like Great Divide and Fuller's. Â They now do casks, which I love. Â I am not sure if that is on all the time, but seems like they have a good mix of beers they rotate in and out. Â The few times I have been there for a cask, it went fast. Â Always good.
An excellent chill place, and it is right in the middle of all the other college fun in College Station.
Rapidly coming to believe that this is probably the best bar in town. The cask-tappings on Wednesdays really made the time I was stuck here during the summer bearable, and I am pleased to see they are continuing what has now become a tradition. This is the ONLY place in town to get cask ale (aka the best beer on earth) with any consistency...though rumors of cask-tappings at Harvey Washbangers have me curious enough to investigate.
Love the new "what's on tap" chalkboard display, with more and better brews appearing here. Yep, you will certainly find me here on Wednesday's at 6 when that cask is tapped. I may even let you buy me a few pints.
Stopped by this place briefly over the Christmas holiday. Needless to say it was empty.. except for the stench. This place smelled to high heaven, so bad in fact, that I only went to the bathroom ( which was gross and old-timey) and left.  I couldn't  imagine enjoying a beverage here. But apparently people do because its still open. Good luck Bannons! I"ll check back when I'm in town to see if anyone maybe threw some disinfectant around or some febreze!
Review Source:Thumbs down. Â They no longer have New Republic beer on draft, one of the only (2) locally available draft brews brewed in College Station. Â I believe the only "local" beer they offer on draft is from Austin and that's an insulting shame on North Gate in Aggieland, when we have two breweries; Â Republic and New Republic (confusing names but not related).
Review Source:I was only here for a few minutes so I feel like I can't say toooo much but...
It was pretty hoppin and it looked fun! ORDER THE THIN MINT (kinda like a super big shot) if you want something sweet, amazing, and very smooth and happy in your mouth. It was a-m-a-z-i-n-g! I would have stayed longer but we were going from place to place pretty quickly.
thin mint... yessssss please
This review would be totally different, if it weren't for the rude bartender that I had to deal with.
Being a 24 year old, I wasn't thinking too much about having an issue with my id. Texas id, not expired, picture looks like me, etc. To my surprise, the bartender tells me my licence is a fake and that I am lucky he isn't reporting me to the police. Really guy?! So, I ask him to explain to me why it is a fake. He points out a couple of things on my card, but after comparing it to another friend's id, I realize he is just plain wrong.
I ask him to check it again, but he threatens to call the police. I told him to do it and that I would wait. Five minutes of waiting at the bar he says he is too busy and I leave.
I haven't been back and never will. I also like to share that story whenever anyone mentions the place. Funny enough, I have heard the same story from a few other people.
The only reason I give this place two stars, is because before that, I had an okay time at an okay place.
Losing business over stubborn ignorance.
This was my go-to place in college and I still stop in to visit when I'm back in town. It has a laid-back atmosphere and the staff is super friendly. In fact, you can't go here and not get to know the bartenders because they are all awesome!
My all-time favorite night to go is Tuesday for Karaoke. It gets pretty packed so if you want a table I suggest you get there early. They have a great happy hour daily that I used to take advantage of after classes and they also have half-pint night on Wednesdays. Sunday trivia is also worth checking out
One of the biggest accomplishments of my college career was finishing my O'bannon's Beer Tour! Basically you drink one of every beer they have (75 total, and they rotate a few seasonally). You have 1 year to complete it and you can only drink 2 a night (damn TABC...) So hold on to that green stamp card they give you, because if you lose it you have to start all over again, and they can't combine multiple cards to let you finish faster if you forget to bring it (speaking from experience lol) Once you do finally finish you get an awesome hand crafted authentic O'bannon's Mug. The mug holds more than a pint and you can bring it back every time you come and have it filled for the same price as a pint. They even clean it for you before you leave!
Bottom line: This is a great bar that taught me all I know about beer and it will always hold a special place in my heart!
Talk about atmosphere! We have avoided Northgate at all costs for the past few years, but now that we've tried O'Bannon's we'll be braving the parking and college crowd more often.
The music is great, a little johnny cash mixed in with REM and some Irish rock thrown in as well. Check out their website for their nightly specials. Wednesday night is our favorite because there is much less of a crowd.
We tried to go there last night for St. Paddy's day, but it was too crowded :(
If you are looking for a good beer, this is the best place on Northgate. Â Weekdays are not usually very crowded if you are looking for a place to just chill out and converse with a few friends. Â Sundays are trivia nights (which is always a lot of fun), Wednesdays are half price pints, and sometimes there are some great bands that play typical Irish pub music.
Review Source:Don't fear - great times are here. Â Forget the rest and try the best at this fun Irish Bar. Â College Station has the answer for your big city service blues - and the name is O'Bannon's Tap House. Â You'll feel like you walked right into a major metropolitan area beer garden with their wide selection, full service bar, fun bartenders and waitstaff, and excellent service. Â Never has a college town ever had it so good.
Whether you desire a fine ale, lager, or bock from their very wide and extensive tap selection (representing most every international flavor, and their bottled brew gives you everything from the USA to Thailand) - you will find what you want. Â What's more, the folks at O'Bannon's keep the prices VERY low - appealing to the college crowd, this is a must stop place for visiting fans, Texas A&M Former Students, and current students alike.
From beer to lemon drop shots, cosmopiltans to bourbons, wines to draughts, you will have great times followed by more great times with O'Bannon's. Â When you visit College Station, put O'Bannon's on your list. Â And, while you're there, stay there. Â Visiting anywhere else... well, why bother?
