It's a decent place with drinks and hookah. They make every night an attraction by having different things such as karaoke, movie, games and belly dancers each night. Saturday nights was belly dancer but we were there till 1 and there was no such entertainment. Our hookah got burned out in like an hour and the DJ was alright. Nothing made it an exclusive or a memorable night so it's just average in my opinion.
Review Source:I've been to Off the Hookah twice and each time I leave wondering: Why did I just pay $30 to listen to the DJ blast the hooks from Aubrey Drake Graham songs in my ear? Why does my rum and coke taste like it's been spiked with mozzarella sticks? Why were my coals smaller and grayer than mouse nipples? Am I going deaf? What was my friend trying to tell me? Does the DJ know any songs that were released post 2011? Do I have tinnitus? Am I in hell?
Review Source:I'm kind of on the fence with Off The Hookah...
Pros
Open till 4am
There's a bar-although I didn't have a drink
They have food-also didn't order any food
I went on a Friday night so there was a DJ, they played A TON of reggae/dancehall songs which was a HUGE plus for me because I like that type of music and also the DJ didn't talk much...not sure if that's good or bad
Cons
The seating is a little too close together.
Apparently there's a $5 non smoker/odd person/they just wanted to add an extra fee, fee. They have a rule of only 2 people per hookah and there was 3 people in party so I paid it no problem, but from there everything slowly went down.
The customer service was lacking or really just that unorganized. I could understand if it was a really busy night night and the place was packed why the service would have been the way it was but it wasn't. When I did hookah in Astoria the server helped my party pick a flavor, came to check on us to make sure everything was good at our table plus turn over and add charcoal with the place full. Not only was none of that done at Off The Hookah, our server brought us the hookah and didn't come back to our table until it was closing just to give us the bill so we couldn't even order and food. Also my charcoal literally turned into dust, that I took pictures of because that's unacceptable.
Overall- I think I MIGHT give this place a second try or not, still on the fence...
This seems like an OK place to hangout at, I just didn't like the inattentiveness of the server.
never been to a more unorganized establishment in my entire life... ordered 2 hookahs, 2 coronas, 1 tequila/orange juice, 1 jager bomb and 1 jager shot... total cost? ready for a laugh? $150 .... -___- ... i was insulted when i saw the bill because the prices didn't add up, Â never going back there again. you lost a bunch of customers due to your outrageous bar prices. to top it off, we were held by security because some idiot girls before us didn't pay their tab and left... so we had to wait to get an ok that we paid... all i wanted to do was get out and i was told to wait to do that.
Review Source:So, me and 2 more went there. I Think We were not Lucky. We arrive there, the security guart on the front was checking the IDs, and he started to creat a issue with my boyfriends ID, after a while we let us in ( I dont even know why they were being so restrict about the ID if they dont sell alcohol there..anyway). So we got in and there were club lights all over, there was a DJ as well, but the music was SO LOUD that we had to scream at each other. After 20 minutes waiting, the waiter came to ask if we wanted something to drink, my friend asked for water (tap), but they didnt served that, so he got a bottle one, and complained that nobody went there to get the Hookah order. So 5 more minutes passes and the Hookah waitress comes and says that if we dont order 2 hookas (because is one per couple, and we were three) we had to pay a 5$ fee, EVEN THOUGH I DONT SMOKE!!! So...I would have to pay 5$ to see my BF and friend smoking. So the manager came, and how was our first time there he let it go, and took the order. 25 minutes later, NO HOOKAH for us....so we decided to leave. As we are leaving, the security guy didnt want to allow us to leave because we didnt have a paper allowing us to leave. After checking with the manager he let us go...But NO SENSE AT ALL!!!
Review Source:This place is a real disaster. 3 of went to this place Wednesday night to hang for an hour or so. We got there a few minutes past eleven and were promptly harassed by the security guard even though we are in our late 20s and early 30s AND they don't even serve alcohol. We then go in and are seated and given menus. 5, 10, 15 minutes go by and no waiter comes. Finally a waiter shows up and asks us if we want drinks. I tell him we just want an apple hookah and my friend asks for some water. He tells us he is not the hookah waiter and leaves. He then comes back with a bottle of water, which my friend asks if he could just have a glass and the guy says no so my friend takes the bottle. Finally a waitress comes over and asks us what we want, to which I respond an apple hookah. She then tells me "There might, actually there is a $5 charge since there are 3 of you and you are only getting 1 hookah. By this point we have had it. She gets the boss and he says he will let it slide this time, takes our order and heads to the back. Another 15 minutes go by an still we have just a bottle of water. I see the drink waiter and ask him how much the water is which he says is $2. I pull out my wallet to pay and he asks me if I am leaving. I tell him we have spent 45 minutes in this place with strobe lights and blaring music and still have not received our hookah. He says we should hold on a minute. The boss then comes out and apologizes and tells us just another few minutes and he'll have our hookah out. We decline and he "comps us" the bottle of water. Then to top it all off the security guard wont let us leave. He asks for our ticket which we have none and he says he just has to confirm with the boss. We tell him we have no ticket because after about an hour we were never served.
Overall:
About an hour of harassment, lack of service and loud terrible music which made it impossible to even have a conversation with the people sitting right next to you.
Wish I could comment on how the hookah was but we never got one.
My friends and I were scouring for a legitimate hookah lounge after visiting a few sketchy ones. I ended up finding Off The Hookah here on Yelp and, boy, I was glad.
I think we came in around 10 or 11 on a Friday and it was PACKED. We were promptly ID'd and seated. I wasn't too crazy about the seating because there was a small booth and then these little square stool-like chairs. But it ended up being just fine. Unless you're in the VIP booth, you're pretty close to your fellow patrons, but no one really pays much attention. We were excited to see all of the flavors and we were happy no one pushed any expensive hookah on us. You have to get one hookah per pair (there were four of us including me), so we were going to get two anyway. Finding out that there were no hidden fees that we had been charged with in previous hookah joints (ex. charging for how many people are smoking, charge for turning of the coals, charge per hour, etc), we got a 15 dollar hookah and an 18 dollar hookah (Peach and Skittles, both were awesome!) We stayed for hours and were not bothered at all, only once did we have to chase down a worker to turn our coals but it was very busy that night. The music was loud, but they had a live DJ, so we expected it. The DJ lights and laser lights gave a cool effect to the whole atmosphere. Every night they have a different type of entertainment every night of the week (even a karaoke night, whaaaat!).
I really enjoy this place, it's my new go-to hookah place, definitely.
Quick Guide
*No hidden charges
*Seating is a little too close together
*Great service, great hookah flavors
*You can stay as long as you like
*Different entertainment every night
The owner and I attend the same law school (she's a genius). Last night, I went to a friend's birthday party here (my friend also attends the law school). I didn't try the hookahs so I can't comment on that. Off the Hookah has a nice Middle Eastern ambience. It also has a great DJ. I wish there were more things on the menu. Besides the hookahs, the only things on the menu are chicken fingers, french fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and these two Middle Eastern dishes. The chicken fingers were pretty good- the pieces are large and juicy. Be careful eating them since they are served VERY hot. The onion rings, on the other hand, are school cafeteria-quality. For some reason, they do not serve alcoholic beverages.
I like this place, but it was way too cold in there. It's hard to get your freak on if you're spending most of the night shivering. I did dance with my friend (and long story short, I want to be more than friends with her). If you're looking for an off-the-beaten-path experience and you don't feel like going all the way to Manhattan, stop by Off the Hookah. However, eat before you get here and bring a sweater.
Got a new set of friends this summer and this was the place we came for our first hangout. Enjoyed ourselves so much that we have been here multiple times for summer 2012.
Service (Great)
Wonderful, the owner and staff are always happy and friendly. No fake smiles here, guys. These people go from servers to friends, the DJ here is a family friend, also.
Hookah (Great)
Delicious tastes and scents, makes you want to just grab a bed and lay back and watch the world turn as you waste time with your wonderful hookah. My favorite here is Pirate's Cave, just let them know Jay told you to order it and wa-lah, goodness.
Food (Could Be Better)
They make their own food, it's pretty much frozen finger food that's heated up.
Price (Moderate)
Average hookah prices, but you always feel you are getting more than your moneys worth. If not in the current hookah, then in the building. I've watched as this building change from average to top notch.
Really good interior and atmosphere. No music when we got in at 9:30 on Sunday but they had the game on.
The owner was very friendly and nice. I think it just opened becuase the couches and tables look really good and clean
We got the double apple ($15) and coffee. My friends got hot chocolate and there was more milk in it than chocolate.
The hookah was very smooth through out and someone kept on coming to remove the hookah.
I took off a star because they made us more than 10 mins for a hookah! thats my only annoyance at this place but we are going to visit again and will redo the review then, if circumstances change.
No need to drive all the way to Manhattan for a decent hookah spot b/c this place is awesome! Came here to celebrate my fiancées birthday with some friends and had a GREAT time!
The decor was ultra chic and Medeterranian fab!
The owner, Eli was sooooooo nice and hospitable.
We danced the night away to all of the latest jams!
We ordered some buffalo wings, mozzarella  sticks, and fries and ate every last drop!
The belly dancer was super fun and freaking skilled!
We had a GREAT time at an awesome local spot. Can't wait to go back!
It was pretty dead when we came (6 pm) Â but it was surprisingly spacious with couches lined against the wall but they were rather high for a tiny person like me :p but the tables were a bit short for the high seats! Â There were flat screens throughout the place which was nice. The hookah I got was Plum and my boyfriend got the Mint. The plum was really good but the mint was rather strong. The service was friendly too.
But there was no food menu only drinks and that was highly disappointing.
First off the regular hookahs are 15$ not the 11$ it says on the menu..
Now to get to it.. The place is well organized, it's pretty inside.. I'll give it it that. However, if you're pretty short the seats along the walls are pretty high(My wifes feet didn't touch the ground)!! Music was nice.. it was very house-y and dance-y.. I liked it.. There was also four pretty nice TV's set up around the place which was pretty awesome.
For the hookah.. It wasn't spectacular nor was it incredible bad.. It was well.. pretty average.. My wife did get a chance to see how they made it.. and they used real fruit!! I thought that was pretty cool.. but still didn't make a difference to how it tasted.. It felt cheap and the coal dies really fast.. The server did replace the coal pretty quickly though.
Bottom line.
Place is nice.. local.. though, I don't think I'd come here again... well maybe.. perhaps one day.
