Possibly my favorite watering hole in Southwest. It's really just your average, straight-up standard neighborhood bar. Â It's not trying to be a british pub or anything else like that. It's not too dive-y and not too much of a sports-bar... though there ARE about 96 TVs in the place. The staff is pretty awesome.
The food, depending on what you order, is either about on par with standard bar-food or surprisingly good.
We've been quite a few times since coming to the area and every time has been fun.
This place has fantastic food--and the best tomato soup on the planet! I was awestruck when I ordered what I thought would be regular old canned soup and was served their amazing homemade recipe. Â Been back there several times for more and will continue to return for their other great dishes. This isn't just a bar (like I thought) it is a great restaurant!
Review Source:I won't lie, the reason I go here most of the time is because it's directly across the street from my apartment and that makes for a convenient comfort food meal.
That said, they cook surprisingly good food! I wouldn't have expected that from a bar, but there it is. The clam chowder on Friday is especially good -- creamy, full of savory flavor, and better than any I've had anywhere else -- and if you ask for a bowl of it, you get a BIG bowl. It's an entire meal.
I've also had their honey fried chicken, which was crispy and delicately sweet. I'd definitely order it again.
The only thing I've had here that I wasn't so excited about was a club sandwich. But who cares, it's a club sandwich. Hah!
I haven't really done any drinking here, but my friends are all wild about the jello shots.
The only thing I don't like about this place is the seating. They have these tall chairs that either make my hips hurt or make me continually slide off the front of the chair. Boo.
The Old Barn is my favorite local spot. My office goes there for lunch a lot and I like to relax in the evenings there as well. The food is good and very moderately priced. The atmosphere is great, and the bartenders and servers are super friendly, make you feel right at home. The happy hour is awesome (try one of the famous pizzas) and the daily/weekly specials are a deal and a half. Also, they have lots of fun things to do while you're there, ie trivia night, free poker night, karaoke, jukebox, video poker, etc. The Old Barn is a must try if you live in the SW/Tigard/Beaverton area! You won't be disappointed.
Review Source:We came here looking for a bar to watch the World Series Game 4 (editorial: Aww yeah Giants!) and this place ended up being a ton of fun. Â We weren't expecting to show up on a trivia night, and the crowd that was there for it were really cool. Â No jerks, no nitpicking, just laid back high-fiving, a little woo-ing, and so on.
The food was...bar food, about what you'd expect, but their happy hour prices definitely kept me from having too much beef about it. Â We had burgers(meh) and chicken fingers (yum!) and plenty of fries to soak up our cocktails.
There were tvs in every direction you could swivel your head, and the server we had was nice and decently attentive, despite the fact that this place was pretty hopping for a Sunday night (I thought). Â The drinks were priced well and not weak at all.
This is not swanky by any means, but it's not a dive, or an old barn for that matter, either. Prices are good, drinks are good, and people are nice.
Also, my condolences to what I believe was the only Tigers fan in Portland.
Pretty small place but it's great for Games because you're never that far from a TV. During Oregon games you get free hot dogs and they have $2 coors lights, so you can get a lot of bang for your buck. Better to get beer than cocktails though, the one our friend ordered was almost undrinkable. But other than that, it's a cool spot.
Review Source:Fellow Yelp-Man Alfredo made the right call on this one: It's "a sneaky-good sports bar". More than one date night has either started here or included a drop-in @ the Old Barn. It seems to me it used to have a bit more of a CW flavor, and now is more mainstream. 'Salright, it's still a good mix of old regulars and a younger, adult student-aged set (PCC Sylvania is about a mile up the road, across I5).
A female comedienne, whose name now escapes me, memorably once quipped that everyone in the world, except for 75% of the women, wants to have sex, pretty much all the time. Â The "other 25%" of the girlies seem to consistently have a strong presence, a mighty good showing at the Old Barn, for whatever reason. Mind you, this is by no means scientific, empirically-driven data we're talkin' here. Just an observation. In the very least, you can pretty much count on friendly service and tasty junk food, mostly of the deep-fried variety. Cheers, Skoal, Salut, and Bottoms up....
Oh yey!
They have Last Call USA trivias here, on Tuesday at 7:30 & Wednesday at 8:00. It was fun and will get your brain working.
The bar itself, I have to say...it's pretty cozy. It's your standard neighborhood bar with potent drinks. PBR $2, Jello Shots $1, and Jolly Rancher $5.75. Their food menu looks pretty good with your standard bar fare and non standard bar fare such as homemade Pizza which they claim the best in town.
We will be back for more trivias maybe we will try some food then. It's so cool to find a trivia bar in our neighborhood, now I just need to practice my trivia skill so I can win.
I've been trying to get the missus to hang out at the Old Barn for years, seeing I live in the neighborhood. But I gave up and now its a guys joint. A satellite man cave if you will. Â This is a quintessential neighborhood watering hole. I'm good for a stop off on the way home from work for a beer (they have a good tap selection) after getting off the bus at Barbur TC if its a bus day. They got a lot of new TV's n there now so it's great for games as well. The other reviews are right, the food is above average for bar food. The layout is a lot better now they got rid of the pool table.
In a nutshell: Great local bar with good bar food, good beer, good for sports, Keno, trivia, and sometimes poker. Count me in.
When asked how I liked going to The Old Barn my response was "It was okay", which is to say it wasn't bad. It also translates to I won't be suggesting that we go there again, but if someone asks me to meet them there I won't decline.
The Server was most excellent, very attentive and nice.
The food menu is actually pretty good for a bar, the prices are about average. Â They have a HH food menu that looked like a good deal. Â Drinks are what you'd expect, average, not bad, not amazing.
The atmosphere is "local hangout." Most of the seating is bar stool height. They have Free Wifi and a few TVs. Â I went for Wednesday Night Trivia - The "TJ" is great.
I ordered a Grilled Chicken Salad ($7.95) and my friends ordered a Chef Salad ($7.95)and 2 Pancakes($5). The Salads were okay, iceberg lettuce with generous toppings, the chicken was prepared well. The Pancakes smelled delicious.
First, I can't thank the Oregon legislature enough for the smoking ban! Â Great to be able to swoop by for a drink these days and not come home smelling like an ashtray. Â
The Old Barn is a great local cozy hangout. Â Great service and the food value is decent. Â The pizza is money.
Keep up the good work
How many times have you driven by this place and wondered what it was like inside? Â Me? Â At least 250 times.
Finally! Â I went inside with 2 friends to see what it was like. It was a dive bar without the greasy old men undressing you with their eyes. It was quite a young crowd actually. ++
It was crowded because of trivia night but still offered up a place to sit. Â The wait staff was awesome. Â For as busy as it was, the cocktail waitress was on it! Â A couple of times the bartender himself came over to ask us if we needed anything else and was quite the character too.
The drinks were stiff-ish, nice menu selection but chose the mini corn dogs- fried to perfection! Â My friend had a club sandwich with fries and after stealing a bite.. that was good too!
I will return, possibly even this afternoon!
I went here on a whim with a couple of friends. We were surprised it was so  busy for a Wednesday night, then we realized it was trivia night. Although it was packed the service was great. The bartender and the cocktail waitress were helpful and really funny. They had a great selection of boozes and the food was decent bar food that came out fast. Definitely a place I will go again, it was a dive without the depression.
Review Source:Since I moved in across the street, the OB - for better or for worse - has become like my own personal rec room/man cave (although my girlfriend enjoys it quite a bit too). It's a great neighborhood (some might say dive) bar, though I'd say it takes a visit or two or three to really start to appreciate it and get to know the staff.
It's actually a sneaky good sports bar with full DirecTV NFL package and and almost every game you'd want to watch. There's enough TVs for everyone to see what they want (even if they're not all the absolute best picture quality). A vocal group of Pittsburg Steelers fans are usually in the house on Sundays, but I've never had a problem getting my team's game on.
I think the food is pretty solid and relatively inexpensive. Again, this is a neighborhood joint that's not going to attract clientele from all over Portland because of its gastropub reputation, but as far as solid, fill ya up, bar food goes I'm always verys satisfied. They also seem to be pretty confident in their seafood menu as well and do a razor clam special on the last Friday of each month (which I keep missing!).
The mixed drinks are not weak, there's jello shots if you feel like steppin' it up a notch, and a solid selection of beers on tap. I'll just say that if you want to do what most people come to blue collar neighborhood bars to do, you'll enjoy yourself at the OB.
I don't smoke, but most smokers seem to like their covered, heated smoking patio, which I think has a little TV on it as well.
Oh and the karaoke nights (Saturday primarily) can get pretty fun the few times I've stuck around that long.
Great people watching all in all too!
The only thing you'll wanna watch out for is the parking lot in the back, which takes a little care when you exit as it's a little cramped. Since I'm usually on foot, I rarely have to worry about that, but you can always park next door at the Barbur Transit Center if you want an easier way out.
The World Cup is on here every day, and I appreciate that. Â I appreciate it even more because the handfull of regulars who have been drinking here every day for 20 years think "soccer is lame." Â But lunch time means the last half of whatever game is on and a sandwich at Old Barn. Â
The 80 year old women who play those video lottery machines that make the annoying Vegas like noises and drink vodka crans at 1:30 pm on a Tuesday worry me a little bit. Â But they have really good soup, a killer club sandwich, and the waitresses are seriously awesome. Â Every one I've ever had there has been really great. Â I might even keep going there once the World Cup is over.
Pros:
Its free to play NTN trivia which is super fun
Fairly  clean.
Cons:
Food was just okay and pretty expensive for the quality.
Service was poor to fair as our waitress was somewhere between indifferent and rude.
The bartender kept going out for smoke breaks every ten minutes. Â
Overall probably won't go back.
The bartenders are nice, but management is extremely rude! Â I will never go back to a place that does not care about their customers and treats them with so little respect! Â Do NOT go there...it is not worth it, unless you want to be treated like you don't matter! Â The customers are what keep people in business, don't they know that? Â It's just bad management to treat people so rudely.
