So I was up in St. Cloud for a business trip on March 20-21, 2013. A friend suggested we go to the Old Capital Tavern.
All I can say this is a rare gem in the area! If you're anywhere close to Sauk Rapids, you have to stop by here. They pretty much have a wall of beer.
Andy F. is the best server! He has made several food and drink recommendations and hasn't steer us wrong. We started with Capital Nachos, topped with steak, jalapeno and roasted red pepper cheese sauce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. There was plenty to share and it was good.
I ordered the Jambalaya Linguini, which consisted of Sausage, chorizo, chicken, and shrimp, sautéed with bell peppers and onions. It was very tasty but unlike most Jambalyas (not in a bad way).
The food and service from Andy was so good, we decided to come back on Thursday, March 20th! It was much more busy on Thursday night, probably because of all the Minnesota Clerks and Finance Officers who came to St Cloud for the annual conference. We had to wait for a bigger table to accommodate our group, but that was okay because Andy served us yet again. This guy is so good, he remembered what we ordered the night before and was able to make recommendations based on our previous night's order! What a memory!
This time I had to try the Four Alarm Pig's Ass Masterpiece. No really. That's what it's called. How could you not order that? Â It's slow-cooked pulled pork butt (I said butt), house-made spicy nitro stout BBQ sauce, spicy giariniera veggies, pepper jack cheese, all served on a baguette. Â And let me tell you, it's darn good.
If I could give Old Capital Tavern and Andy hire marks I would, but check it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
