This place is actually called Kure Beach Diner now.  I'm not sure when that change-over happened.  Either way, the food and service was fine!  We were verrrry happy with the hushpuppies.  Really, I think those may be the best hushpuppies I've ever had.  So simple and good.

We ordered two Carolina Style Cheeseburgers, one with fries and one with fried okra.  It was nice, because you don't really see Carolina Style burgers in many places.  It was yummy, and filled us up at a great price for lunch.  If it had been the spring or summer time, we would have been able to step out onto the pier for a nice stroll.  It really is RIGHT there, in the middle of all the Kure Beach Pier action.

The atmosphere of the diner is cozy and casual.  The staff was very nice and accommodating.  We're planning on coming back for breakfast and a walk on the beach!

If you like "FRESH" seafood, grease, and apathy beyond anything I've experienced working in the service industry this is the place for you.

On a lighter note, their sweet ice tea was good.

Came in with a couple friends, and were quickly seated in a booth. Everything was great until our waitress delivered the drinks -- which she SPILLED all over the table and on my friend. The waitress uttered an "oops" and walked off. No paper towels or any clean up.

Next, she brought over the tiniest order of hushpuppies (we all were supposed to have a serving). We were allotted 3 hushpuppies per person since we had 3 people. Is this normal...? Instead of getting 3 orders (which we were supposed to all get a serving), we get one tiny one to share.

As we are eating our tiny portions, one of the girls working there carries over a bucket full of utensils and SLAMS it on the table of the booth behind us. Mind you, this is a very small restaurant and the noise level easily gets amplified. She keeps SLAMMING them down for no reason, and then walks off.

We finally get our food and the waitress can't even remember who ordered what, and drops my coleslaw on the floor. She starts laughing and casually brushes it off as she gives me a new bowl.

While we are eating, the waitress comes by and SLAPS the bill on the table. She walks off without a word.

Two of us notice an African-American family come in and sit in a booth. Five minutes later, a waitress comes by and asks them if they've been serviced yet. They say no, and she takes their order. They wait, DON'T GET PAID ATTENTION to, and they leave. No surprise there -- who would stay if they're not being attended to??!

No one comes by to ask us how everything is. My friends and I finish our food, and we wait for the waitress to come by and take our finished plates. 5 minutes goes by, 10 minutes..... nothing. They keep walking by and acting like we don't exist -- YET, they are being super sweet to the large group of 12 people in the center of the restaurant.

We get up and walk over to the register with the bill. One of the girls is just sitting in the booth putting utensils inside napkins. She looks up at us after a minute, walks up to the register, and has the balls to ask us if our food was good. My friends and I can barely contain our enthusiasm as we pay and leave.

Waste of time, money, and respect. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else.

Lived here for three years and even though I try to est healthy the deep fried south always ends up bringing me to locally owned spots like Old Pier House. Ocean view, great for breakfast, kinda greasy spoon vibe and tables are close together. Perfect diner near the pier.

We've had breakfast there twice in this visit.  Both times we were all well satisfied and the price was reasonable and the service friendly.  And it's right by the fishing jetty though, alas, it's closed for the season.

Anyway, two quite satisfactory breakfast experiences.

This restaurant was disappointing.  After a referral from a friend, we went here for dinner on a Saturday night in late September.  The food was just average.  We had the small shrimp dinner (with slaw & green beans) and the shrimp & flounder dinner (with slaw & fries).  The seafood was breaded & fried.  It was really average.  There was no seasoning with the breading (maybe just salt).  This wasn't anything you couldn't get anywhere else in eastern NC.  The flounder we were served was a large piece.  The fries were well-seasoned.  The food, in general, was good (not great).  However, with a tip (and two sweet teas), the meal came to almost $40.  This was definitely NOT a $40 meal.  Sadly, this restaurant isn't worth going back to.

I first visited the Old Pier House with my husband and my father-in-law in October 2009.  Hubby and I were living in PA and were in Wilmington for a weekend visit.  My father-in-law suggested we drive down to Kure Beach for a good fish sandwich which is exactly what I had!

I spent the next six months dreaming of that flounder sandwich before we relocated permanently to Wilmington.  We've been back to the Old Pier House twice since we settled in at the end of April and I have to say I LOVE it!  The location is so convenient after spending some time on the beach or fishing at the pier.  The seafood is always fresh and the sides are great!  I also appreciate that they proactively ask if you'd like to substitute a different side item for the standard fries and slaw with the dinner meals.  The hush puppies are great, too!  I would definitely substitute the fries as they are standard frozen variety.

The place is a little dated which doesn't bother me any, but hubby did point out some old and dingy looking vents just next to our booth at the back of the restaurant that either need a good cleaning or replacing.  Definitely not enough to keep me from going back.  If you're looking for a good fried fish or just good seafood in general, this is the place!  Enjoy!

Great little family restaurant that I have breakfast at while in Kure Beach.....One of the few places one can ride on the beach.
The food is great, the service friendly and quick and it is right on the beach. It is always busy but waits are short. It is opened to 9pm but have not yet had dinner there.
I am supprised that as old as the restaurant is, it is not in the Yelp directory.
