Wow! Seven of us for dinner and all of us walked out thinking the same thing - the best meal we had at the lake. We felt at home in our (very) casual clothes (it's vacation after all!). The waiter was prompt and the service overall was very good. Gorgeous view of the lake. We had the spinach salad (shared it) and salmon, prime rib, ribs and filet. Everyone thought their dinner was prepared perfectly with generous portions. If you have room try the cheesecake. The seven of us shared two pieces and had more than enough. Not inexpensive but we felt as though it was worth every penny. Great wine selection too.
Review Source:I had dinner tonight with my son and his friend. It was "Old Tahoe". Owner greeted us and we sat at the Bar and watched the Baseball game. The service was great. Warm homemade bread, followed by a Hearts of Palm Salad and then the Cowboy Cut of Prime Rib, 5 Star experience and highly recommended and overlooked in the Tahoe area. This is a winner here.
Review Source:We stopped in here on one of our days up here at Lake Tahoe. I've driven by quite a few times but never stopped to eat. A friend that lives in Truckee gave only so so reviews of the place, but what the heck, we'll give it a try. Going in it reminded me more of old school steakhouse than a new age one with all kinds of sauces and organic this and that. There are early bird specials on the menu, for some reason that just reminds me of the senior discount .... not that I have anything against that! I may be there someday! BUt even looking over these early bird offers, them prices ain't cheap. Ranging from chicken pasta for $18 to prime rib for $24. Rib offerings range from $28 for a full slab (rack) to $22 for a half. Being Steakhouse is in the name, steaks are what are really featured here. The salads here are ordered separate, but feed 2.
I had the NY steak for $32 and my BF had the rib eye for $34 along with a shared Caesar  salad for $12. Service was good, drinks were served promptly. Just 1 glass of wine each this time around. The salad was big enough, but really just plain , tasted like bottles dressing. My NY arrived, not huge like a 1lb Costco size, but decent. My first taste I'm thinking, not bad but I think Costco is better. Just a avg. NY. The rib eye was about on the same level. Out the door I couldn't say our dinner was worth $120, with tip and tax and 2 glasses of wine. Tahoe prices, what can I say. I don't mind those prices if the food warrants it. I'll pass on returning.
We had a great meal here, the filets and prime rib were fantastic and the sides delicious. Â The service was good, the wine, for good wine, was overpriced so you might consider bringing your own nice bottle and paying the wine corkage fee. Â Casual and great ambieance and we will be back.
Review Source:Old Range was an excellent dinner. The prime rib tender, juicy, and giant. Service was superb and we were treated like VIPs. Martini was a very healthy size and well crafted. Only thing I would say to be careful of is to not go here thinking you can get out for cheap. This is a bit pricey and lovely for a date night - but just expect to spend 60 or more for two. Highly recommended!
Review Source:Ate at Old Range Steakhouse on a trip to Tahoe 02/10/13. Read Yelp reviews and given it was scored 3 1/2 stars we expected more than we got. Ordered prime rib, a generous cut but absolutely void of flavor. I get a more flavorful cut from Lucky"some grocery store. The mashed potatoes were delicious. Also ordered vegetables, again, generous serving and quite tasty. Service was adequate by an arrogant male server whose name I don't recall if he even bothered to give it. Â Total bill for 2 adults $96.75. Extremely overpriced for a disappointing meal with strained service.
Review Source:Loved the food there. Steaks were perfect, we had Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. They were delicious. Excellent!! The problem we had was in the end our waiter got angry when we wanted to split the bill into how much each of us had. He got angry and started to tell us he did t have time. His name was Keith. If he was to busy he could of said it nicely. But he just got visibly angry. Very unprofessional . But I'd still go back just for the food. Just don't get Keith for a waiter.
Review Source:A real Tahoe gem! Â Great service food and enviroment. Â They have a great menu of steaks, ribs, king crab legs that are all excellent. Â They have a good wine selection also where you select from the display the actual bottle so you can read the label and decide what you would like. Â They also have a nice selection of wines by the glass. Â The service is extremely attentive and helpful. Â Portion are huge so perfect for a day after skiing!
Review Source:Me and my BF were staying less than 100 ft from this place and so happy we did. Blythe (yes just like the city but far from boring) she was awesome! Made the best dirty martini and manhattan we had ever had. The shrimp cocktail was so flavorful and plenty to share. I got the surf and turf and was is heaven. The petite filet was perfect size and the flavor melted in my mouth. I think I might have seriously drool. Speaking of drooling, the king crab legs I almost drifted off in a dream state of flavor and food ecstasy. I was so consumed with my perfect portioned meal I forgot what my guy had. But I do recall him making Mmmmmm noises that were bothering my own enjoyment. Haha. After an amazing meal that I still can't forget, We went back to our cozy cabin and had sweet dreams. We will be back!!!!
Review Source:Was delicious! The first thing I loved about this place was the collection of vintage lamps. In every single corner was a unique lamp. The New York strip was perfect, but very large so I'm glad we shared. I also recommend the hearts of palm salad and the cream spinach. Good service too.
Review Source:This place is great! You can seat by the window and enjoy a nice view of the lake while you take in the vintage details of the ambiance and get ready for your meal. Why you have the enjoy the view before your meal? Because the portions here are so interesting that after you get your plate you will forget about the lake and will only worry about finishing what you have in front of you.
Huge steaks (cooked to perfection too), really good service and nice atmosphere. Good option to refill your energies after a day of ski. Oh, and In case you are not into meat, they also have vegetarian options.
This is the best steakhouse!! The décor is cozy and you can tell each of the details, from lighting to furniture, is selected for a reason.
We had the prime rib and short ribs and they were exceptional. Their veggie sides are delicious also, especially for a steakhouse and if there is a vegetarian in your group, they had a few vegetarian entrees available.
Their salads are huge and very fresh. We also shared a bottle of wine, which was a great value. I would recommend this as a must stop place for all visiting the Tahoe area.
What a great place! Our second time returning. Great service, steakhouse ambiance with a fun view of the lake I didn't know was there.
We had ribs, porterhouse steak & a Prime Rib cowboy cut that was enough to feed 4 people. Â Side dishes we got were generous! Â One order of butter lettuce salad was enough four for & we were 3!
Great service, have an hungry appetite when you go!!
Hands down the best meal I've had in years - IN YEARS! The steak and vegetables are fantastic. I don't usually like creamed spinach at all, but this creamed spinach is to die for! The service was excellent, the drinks were fantastic and the view was awesome. It's an old school place that serves steak and prime rib the right way.
Review Source:The restaurant is in North Lake Tahoe. Which means the quality can be really good or off somewhat. That has a lot to do with the labor force available at the lake, so do not expect a steak house in Lake Tahoe to be anything like a steakhouse in a major metropolitan area.
I thought the Old Range had a great atmosphere and offered a good steak. Our entir party of five had different cuts of steak and we were all satisfied. Not blown away but happy with our choices.
I like the restaurant because it is more upscale than most choices in the North Lake Tahoe area.
THE place for great prime rib and BBQ ribs when in Tahoe. This is our second time here. Â Heard about this place last year from my brother-in-law, an SF cop with very discerning taste buds. Â He absolutely loves this place, as do we. Â Alex was our waiter, a 6 year veteran who knows his meats. Â Once you find this place you will make it a regular stop.
Review Source:Looking at the reviews, we were excited, so we made a reservation in late December 2011.
We showed up 10 minutes early, when we showed up, we were told (abruptly) "you're too early, you can wait upstairs."
(my wife) Â "We'd like to have a drink here (at the bar, as you walk in), is that okay?"
(manager?) Â "I guess so..."
(my wife) Â "What wine do you recommed?"
(exasperated tone) Â "I don't know, I don't drink wine, there are some (about 40 bottles) behind you pick one..."
(me, fed up) Â "Look, is there one that is more popluar than most?"
(him) Â "I guess XXXX is popular..."
(us) Â "ok fine"
That sums it up. Â Steaks that tasted frozen (lots of water running out of the meat, telltale mealy texture, no real savor to the meat). Â Reminded both of us of very thick Sizzler quality meat. Â
Service frankly sucked. Â Our waitress was very nice but came around twice before we asked for a check. Â Why is there no bartender? Â The servers are making all the drinks.
My wife loved the brussel sprouts. Â I thought they were a soggy mess.
Looks like this place gets by on historical reputation. Â Skip it, buy some steaks at Safeway, cook at home.
We've been going to Tahoe for so many years, so imagine our surprise when we tried this place on a quick trip....
DELICIOUS! Â My daughter had ribs and my husband and I each had the New York Steak. Â The garlic mashed potatos were so good! Â Loved the decor and the vibe and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Â Pretty pricey, but well worth it!!
Complaints in order:
1. Â Very dark, now I know why.
2. Â Costco buns! Not even warmed up.
3. Â Salad had the unedible part of the lettuce sitting right on top. 2 pieces. Could even see it through the darkness.
4. Â Ribs were not ribs, one piece of boneless meat, not sure what kind.
5. Â The mashed potatoes that they raved about in there menu had fake potatoes mixed in it. I could tell from the taste.
6. Peppermint icecream for dessert. OMG?
7. My fiance's prime rib was not cooked like he asked for.
We think the reason it was so dark, was to cover up all that we noticed, but it didn't work.
I would just like to apologize to the waitress. Â For the first time in my life, I did not tip. Â It was not her fault, but I just couldn't do it!
Looking back now, we should have walked out when the COSTCO BUNS came out!
The whole time we were saying how "Chef Ramsey" would have a "Fuck Me" fest.
After a hasty last minute decision to meet up with another couple, which expanded our group to 7 - on Christmas Eve, we popped into this place for dinner. Everyone was very friendly and accomadating given our large party. They only have one table for a party our size though and we were told that since we didn't call ahead it was given to a party of five just ten minutes before we arrived. We were able to sit at a booth and throw a chair at the end which suited our needs just fine.
My fiance and I split the ribs which were very tasty - I was worried about how hot the "Ribs from Hell" since he likes spice and I don't - but they really didn't have much kick to them. Everyone seemed very happy with their meals and we were so fortunate that not only was this place open but they were able to handle our large party.
The restuarant has an intersesting flow - or lack of flow to it with different rooms in different areas but it was dim and cozy; kind of what you'd expect for a Steakhouse in Tahoe!
Great meal in every way. Â Had a smoked-salmon appetizer, petite filet, garlic mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and a chocolate torte. Â A smooth, velvety Guenoc Cab accompanied dinner.
Service was attentive and friendly. Â I liked the ambience. Â Dark, chocolate-brown walls and retro light fixtures. Â We sat in a leather-like curved booth near the view of Lake Tahoe. Â The only impediment to our view was having to look at Team Skank in the window seat. Â This is not an indictment against the Old Range, but why in the hell are guys wearing butt-crack pants and backwards baseball caps allowed in nice restaurants? Â I'm paying $32 for a steak, just to see a pale, hairy crack emerging from tighty whities. Â With men like this, it's a wonder the population continues to grow. Â
Anyway, aside from the eye poison, this was a great meal. Â I'd come back any time.
Old Range Steakhouse (owner, George) has been a north-Tahoe institution for xx years. I yelp to further support the ownership and the level of food presentations and portions. I suggest you give a good look at the recent other yelpers' comments.
If your craving is beef or ribs - then, yes, Old Range should be your choice for an evening meal. The menu is simple and straight forward: (no soup options - just as the menu has always been), three salad options including caesar for two (included with your entre), ribs, various steak options including filet, new york strip, porterhouse and prime rib cuts; simple desert options (daily). Full bar and a unique pick-your-own wine inventory (located at the entrance, opposite the bar and adjacent to the kitchen). Nice wine options, usually as can be provided by the various wine wholesalers (California, Oregon and Washington varietals).
Seating can be comfortable and cozy at the bar or in 4 - 6 person booths, adjacent to the lake-facing windows.
Portions are ample, believe me!
I will upstage or question any yelper who does not go and come home with at least a 3.
I have been a fan of the Old Range for about 10 years. Â We go there once or twice a year, usually for a special occasions as it can get a bit pricey. Â The old range also offer seasonal 3-course meal specials for $24/person - a very good deal.
Some of the recent reviews had me concerned. Â So, I went tonight, sat at the bar, and had a wonderful meal. Â They truly do have some wonderful cuts of meat and their prime rib is very good (I love the cloves of garlic buried in the meat).
Yes, the manager can be surly (and loud), and yes the decor is "rustic cowboy" at best. Â But, that is part of the charm and part of what makes it part of "old Tahoe." To many restauranteurs are flooding Tahoe from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other metropolitan areas diluting "Tahoe charm" in the process.
If you want a great quality, flavorful steak dinner with a side of old Tahoe Charm, then check out the Old Range. Â If you want Morton's, stay in San Francisco. Â Nothing against Morton's - I just don't want that at Tahoe...
I have no idea why this place is rated so high. Â Walking in it's DARK. Â Both the lighting and the mood. Â Yuck. Â
The service was spotty with three other tables filled. Â Granted, the locals on the bar stools had been there every night for 30 years, but having to go to the bar to get water? Â Come awn. Â
The prices were completely outrageous. Â No better way to put it. Â The burger wasn't even that good.
I've been eating at Old Range Steakhouse for years now with my family, and I have to say if you want steak this is the place to get it. Their prime rib is absolutely spectacular. The prices are a bit high, but there are large portions and ultimately you get what you paid for, and then some.
They used to have a prime rib cut known as the "Tankerman's  Cut." It's no longer on the menu, but I'm sure if you ask for it they'll give it to you. If you do you better be prepared to eat the entire cow. Their Porterhouse is just as big, so consider yourself warned.
I highly recommend the mushrooms, and if you're not feeling the steak their rotisserie chicken is just as good. Don't fill up on the warm bread before getting your meal, you'll thank yourself for not when you finally get the plate.
The only reason why I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5, is because sometimes the waiter is not as friendly as you'd expect a place this small to be. There is one waiter in particular we usually get that is absolutely amazing, but there is another one there we get from time to time that is not as outgoing. Not a huge deal, still very nice but this sort of goes along with the whole package.
What in the heck happened to this place!?!? Â The Old Range Steakhouse has tumbled onto to my "Boo!!! Hiss!!! List" Â Things sure can change in a year. Â Who's bright idea was it to amend the menu here? Â Gone are the side dishes you used to be able to order with your chosen red meat --- dishes like mushrooms, spinach and other steakhouse classics. Â You can't even get a baked potato in this place. Â What sort of steakhouse doesn't offer a baked potato?
Instead you are given the choice between french fries and some red watery mess with chunks it in that the management has labeled ratatouille. Â I suspect they picked up both items at at Costco. Â The "ratatouille" was bland and french fries are the last thing I want when I order a $36 filet! Â It appeared to me that many of the menu decisions were based on economics because the only other excuse I can fathom for making such diasterous changes to an already terrific menu, is a major head injury! Â
We were so excited to return to this place after the stellar experience we had last year.  What a disappointment!!!  Looking back at our recent visit now the first red flag that we should not have bothered came when we encountered the guy working the bar.  He turned out to be the manger. This guy was unfriendly and in such serious need of an attitude adjustment!  When we voiced  our displeasure over the menu changes he could not have cared less.  In fact, he had the audacity to tell us that we were the only patrons he ever encountered who had a problem with it!!  He really needs to read the Yelp reviews for his place! The Old Range Steakhouse doesn't even offer a kid's menu.  You can order your children a small (and I mean small) bowl of buttered pasta for a mere $9.  RIP OFF!!!
The service stunk, our waitperson even disappeared for a while. The next table left soon after we received our food and as we tried to eat, the woman bussing the table sprayed some chemical concocotion within a few feet of where I was sitting. Â The smell was so strong, I couldn't finish my meal and when I complained, the guy in need of an attitude adjustment basically claimed that the restaurant has been spraying that cleaner on thier tables for his entire tenure and they in fact, cut the cleaner in an effort to tone down the scent. Â (I think they cut it with ammonia!) Did he apologize? Â No. In fact, with that explanation he may have been trying to tell me that I was just too sensitive if I was so easily taken down by industrial cleanser!
I felt completely ripped off, let down and disappointed on this visit to the Old Range Steakhouse. Â This establishment will not be getting anymore of my hard earned money!
LOL at the dichotomy of experiences at the Old Range. Â I guess it's a bit of a metaphor for life in general...if you have unreasonable or inappropriate expectations, you're probably going to be disappointed. Â At the Old Range, it's all about the meat. Â Love it or hate it. Â (It may be a thin line, but at least the cut of your meat will be thick.)
I had two hockey games this week, and the recession's had me cutting corners and missing meals, so to get myself back on track I decided to hit the Old Range.
I was flying solo, so I sat at the bar. Â Alex was making drinks, but I gave him a heads up that I was going to order the prime rib. Â He was back, took my order (Cowboy cut-the big one), and I had my food in no time. Â There were a number of choices for wine by the glass, so I just asked George what I should get. Â "Syrah" he said, and I was not disappointed, very nice. Â Got the vegetables, mostly carrots and cauliflower. Â I think the bread was better than in the past, too. Â The prime comes with creamy horseradish, but you can get straight horseradish too, for the asking. Â I had somma both. Â Yum. Â The meat was amazing.
The food and experience were just what I needed. Â Had a pretty good game the following night, lots of jump in the legs, and I gotta credit the prime rib.
Ya, the boss has attitude that can be pretty much take it or leave it. Â You kinda expect that from New Yawk or Chicahgo more than Tahoe, but hey, I told ya, it's all about the expectations. Â If you are looking for some hoity-toity fru-fru you are probably at the wrong place. Â Same if you don't get the part about taking your screaming kid outside. Â Cases like that, you won't exactly find dude bending over backwards to make you comfortable. Â Come in, be nice, say please and thank you. Â Just remember it's all about the meat. Â Cowboys don't cry. Â Man up and eat your meat.
After a day of snowboarding and only having eaten a clif bar, I was in the mood for steak. Â This place was close to our hotel, Cal Neva Resort, so I called for a reservation. Â I wasn't hopeful since it was 7pm on Valentines' day, but our group of 4 managed a reservation. Â I'm glad we called though, because when we got there a couple in front of us was turned away and told they were booked for the night. Â
Decor is rustic, but had an interesting eccentric flair to it. Â Don't bother dressing up, this place is come as you are! Â
Although I wasn't drinking this evening, A patron behind us was warned about ordering a double. Â He was told he might want to reconsider because they pour their drinks very strong. Â My kind of drinks! Â They also had wine and beer. Â No tap though, but decent bottle selection.
Now, the food. Â This place is a steak place, no bones about it (haha). Â The menu is small and it's clear their focus is steak. Â I opted for the NY Strip, medium rare. Â The vegetable du jour was ratatouille. Â Both were delicious. Â The steak was perfectly cooked. Â A couple of my fellow diners opted for the chicken and ribs combo and raved about how delicious the chicken was. Â
Honestly I'd take this place over Smith & Wollensky's. Â It's not the Chicago Chop House, or the Capitolle Grille, but well worth a visit.
I'd give it  a 1 1/2 and the extra half is due to the nice selection of affordable and decent wine. We had a solid bottle of wine for a good price.
One thing that should have lowered my expectations was that given the size of the place (not large) we got a reservation the same day for a pretty large group on a Friday evening. Â The wine, bread and steamed veggies were definitely the highlights of the meal.
The bone in fillet was uninspiring. Â From first impressions, it looked like a perfectly seared piece of meat. Â I asked for medium and it looked medium rare on the outside and didn't show any juices as all. Â I'm not sure if it was seasoned at all before grilling but it could have used a sprinkling of salt and pepper before hitting the fire. Something seemed like it was off but I'm not sure. Â Others had similar experiences, including my friend and his beef ribs. Most of us (if not everyone) left about 1/2 of the steak on the plate (the veggies which i finished). I will admit, it was a large slab of meat but after a day of hitting the slopes, I was pretty damn hungry!
I think i can safely say, it's too pricey for average food. Knock $10-15 off the price of the steak and you've got an average steak place. I really want to give it another shot with a smaller group but it would be hard at that price...
No way is this close to 3 or 4 stars!
I'll start with the positives. Â They accepted a pretty large group (9) on a Friday evening at 8:30. Â The bread (and butter) was good. Â And the steamed veggies (broc & cauli) were steamed well.
Now, for the "constructive" criticism. Â I ordered the new york steak. Â For $34, I would at the very least expect Outback steakhouse quality. Â It didn't even match up. Â The (large) steak was cooked to order (medium rare), but it was bland and flavorless. Â I had to break out the salt and pepper to add something - anything. Â I almost asked for A1 steak sauce. Â
The server checked up on us once. Â None of us got a refill on our water or sodas. Â The whole experience wasn't isolated to me. Â No one in our group was satisfied with the quality or value of our meal. Â I've had better steaks at Sizzler.
Bottom line: Â Way too pricey for below average food.
Damn fine steak and great service.
The Wedge salad was one of the best I have ever had, it is amazing when something as simple as lettuce, tomato, bacon and blue cheese can be really extraordinary. Â
The wine rack is also a real treat, no menu, just a rack by the door with a wide range of interesting wine at a fair price.
Casual, so very apre ski friendly, but steak as good as any fine dining establishment.
The wine list (or cellar or actually wall) is very good, prices are ok. Â The food is kind of bland - the creamed spinach had no cream, the steak was a bit overdone, no blended drinks (well, the waitress came back and offered a strawberry daquiri after we asked for a blended margarita - we're not sure what motivated that!) Â The service was reasonable.
it's a very small and crowded place, the decor is definitely kitschy in an old fashioned small town steak house way. Â There's no splitting of entrees (guess business is too god, but you can always get the gnocchi's (at $17 to take home and split the other entree.) Â Unless you negotiate something at the bar. Â It's a down-home place, so everything is negotiable. Â
The portions are huge, so don't expect to go home hungry. Â I love steak and I go here once a year, you always get the same stuff, so no surprises, it's just not my favorite.
The wine list is great and I'd give it more if all I'd done was drink wine (excellent walk-up selection of wine), enjoyed the kitschy decor, or  looked at the fabulous view of the lake through the windows.
Unfortunately, we also had the food; I was unimpressed. 'Osso Bucco' was a largely unseasoned lump of veal on the bone. My rib eye steak was certainly medium rare in the middle, but it was also barely cooked on the outside - not totally seared as it should be. Only 'OK'. Service was also not great - waitress decided to argue with us when we said we weren't fond of the osso bucco rather than do something classy.
We've been going to the same places in Tahoe for literally decades. Â We decided to branch out and look up a new place and we definitely struck gold. Â
Place feels like a perfect combination of Tahoe old school, but not tired or cheesy - just cozy and welcoming.
Amazing steaks, awesome walk-up wine rack, and something for even non-meat eaters. Â The salad that comes with the entree is fantastic, and the service was friendly and prompt. Â The Porterhouse and Prime Rib were some of the best we'd had, and the vegetable sides - especially the broccoli - were incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. Â We didn't have dessert this time, but that just means we have to come back soon.
4.5 star.
Best prime rib I have ever had. In my opinion, just as good if not slightly better than Lawry's in Los Angeles.
Extremely tender, perfectly seasoned cut of meat. Au jus (is that spelled right?) was perfect. The potatoes, dinner rolls, and salad that comes with the meal was very average though. But I came here for the meat! And excellent meat is what I got. There is just something intrinsically beautiful about a slab of cow flesh that is still slightly bloody and undercooked sitting on a clean white plate in front of you.
It will be pricey. The large "cowboy" cut of prime rib will run you $32. But it is huge. And if a 138 lb Asian male like myself can finish it, so can you. Also, there is a splitting fee of about $10 - $12 for sharing entrees.
You can also order side dishes to share with the table for an extra 9 bucks (sauteed spinach, mushrooms, broccoli, or brussel sprouts). We got the spinach, and that was okay.
Staff was extremely kind in accommodating our party of 5 on last minutes notice. (We showed up without a reservation. But luckily, they squeezed us in when someone canceled. I think you should make a reservation when going.)
In summary:
* Prime rib is the best.
* Minus 1/2 star for average sides (salad, potatoes, veggies, bread).
The Old Range is one of the best steakhouses I've been to in California. Â As other reviewers have noted, the prime rib is amazing -- it's freshly prepared, and the hosts know how to serve it. Â The kitchen operates so that it maximizes it's meat quality. Â You can be guaranteed that you'll get a high-quality cut of beef. Â I've been going here for nice dinners for 4 or 5 years now, once or twice a year, and I've never been disappointed.
There isn't a wine list -- there's a shelf of wine as you enter the restaurant. Â You look, you take a bottle back to your table, and the waiter opens it and serves you. Â The whole place has the same casual, lodge-y feeling to it, from the wooden walls, to the hangings and the lighting.
Some things to note:
- The largest (Tankerman) cut of prime rib isn't on the menu, but you can ask for it and they will happily deliver.
- There used to be a massive porterhouse steak on the menu, but they've stopped carrying it, for some reason. Â Boo. Â It was a rite of passage to eat 40oz of meat.
- The filet mignon comes "dressed" with a mushroom sauce that I like, but some folks don't really care for. Â Don't be put off by the sauce. Â The meat is so good -- if you suspect you won't like the sauce, ask for it on the side.
They have an order of pork ribs that's good, but certainly not my favorite item on the menu. Â If you want awesome ribs, there are better places to go. Â This place is a steak house. Â Order some steak, dammit, and you'll be happy.
This place has the best Prime Rib I have ever had, period. Â If you are ever on your way between the North or South side of the lake, stop here for dinner; especially after a long day on the slopes. Â The Prime Rib is prepared fresh everyday and if you want it rare, it is bloody good. Â They also have three sizes (all of which are big): cowgirl, cowboy, and tanker truck (or something to that effect). Â So don't puss out and be a girl, go "Broke Back Mountain" style and get at least the cowboy portion, you won't regret it. Â
Other pluses are: the communal Cheese-Its up at the bar and the wine rack (instead of having a wine list).
