The Olde Town Pub, now a staple of the Leonardtown social landscape is a great place to meet up with friends for drinks after work or on weekend nights. On special nights, weekends and holidays the place can get SO crowded that one can hardly move which makes the entire experience unpleasant.
Now don't get me wrong I really do love going to the pub but it sometimes seems like you don't know what it is going to be like. The crowd is unpredictable and you never know if you are going to get service right away. I never go here for dinner, sometimes a group of us orders food to snack on but really it rarely goes farther than that.
Seems like I am going through a string of bad establishments as of late, Olde Town pub is no exception.
A buddy and I decided to check this place out because decent places to eat and drink are incredibly rare around here. When you first walk in you think to yourself the place is clean and may have some potential regardless of the cramped space. We sat down and waited longer than we should have to get service from a waitress who was clearly more interested in personal conversations with the regulars than she was in greeting us and taking our order. When she did decide to grace us with her presence she was neither friendly nor personable. Guess she has yet to understand that outside of small towns this is crucial in order to gain decent gratuity but I digress.
One of the first things I noticed was the quality of people that were there. A few normal folks just stopping by to grab a bite to eat but this place definitely had it's fair share of townie trash that felt the need to throw tatter tots across the bar at each other. One hitting the light above our table and landing on it. No apology, no acknowledgement, it was a lot like the cafeteria type behavior at your local middle school. I guess expecting folks to act like mature adults in an eating establishment is asking to much.
I ordered the chicken cheesesteak and my buddy ordered a pizza. The cheesesteak was incredibly small (especially for $11) but they try and mask the "dinkiness" by piling on tater tots. Taste wise I would say that Subway's $5 footlong is a better quality and tasting cheesesteak. I tried a slice of the pizza (I believe it was buffalo chicken, could be wrong though) and it was outstanding. Â
Now to the biggest criticism with the place, the prices. I was absolutely outraged when the waitress brought our separate bills. 1 sandwich, 2 rum and diet's and a draft beer came to a total of $40. Upon further analyzing the bill I see they charged me $19 for the two mixed drinks, $11 for the sandwich, and 7.95 for the draft beer. They threw in the cruddy service for free. Maybe I am out of line but that seems absolutely ridiculous. Judging by their popularity it seems folks are content with those prices, given the quality and everything involved I was not. I believe in a "get what you pay for system" so I have no problem paying higher prices if the quality and service meets those prices. In this particular establishments case they fall completely flat.
I guess for the pizza it may be worth your time; however, if your looking for other reasonable menu items at reasonable prices, served by an attentive staff this place is not for you. I imagine they get away with it because it's small town America and folks just don't know any better.
Great local place! We normally go there for the Old Bay Wings then our favorite local band The Sam Grow Band (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsamgrowband.com&s=b6436fb3dfc9f40ebb7e93b14e5566c2d65431389ae5ad0205ebed39cb231a41" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://samgrowband.com</a>) played acoustic. Our bartender Amy was great and the food a little slow was very good as always. If the place would only be a tad bit larger or convert the parking lot to an outdoor event so Sam Grow could play live that would be a great idea!
Review Source:I like the pub. It really is not bad. As a matter of fact I would say that it is outstandingly average. The outside tables were an excellent addition, it is just too bad that they came so late in the summer.
For good friends and a good beer it is a great place to stop by. It is also within walking distance of my place so that keeps it even more A-OK in my book.
I've only had the food on spare occasions but it was pretty tasty bar food. Pizza, fries, nachos...everything you crave after a few beers. All in all, no complaints. I'm a fan.
