One trip here was enough, for me. Â Sat on the patio, drinks took approximately five hours apiece to make their way to our table, waitress once looked RIGHT at me motioning her to our table and kept walking. Â They were out of the one dish I wanted to try, and what I ended up getting instead was just .... meh. Â As was the gut ache I got shortly after THAT.
Too many great patio bars/grills in Durango to give this one another go. Â I bumped it up from one star to two because the patio has a nice vibe after dark.
We were greeted with a smile and seating was a breeze, it was simply the ordering and delivery of food that was sub par. Â
A few of us were planning on ordering the fish and chips, but they happened to be out (and unfortunately our waitress never thought to mention it...) so when we went to order it, we were QUITE disappointed. no fish. "oh but we have the batter" ah, thank you!
I started by ordering a beer, and it took around 15 minutes to get to my table...
Then grandma ordered a margarita, and it took at least 25 minutes. Â This might have been passable had the restaurant been packed, but it was maybe half full.
We were verbally unhappy about how long things were taking, and nothing was done to fix the problem (maybe comp the margarita... or the beer... or SOMEthing...)
It's a classic traditional diner with some slow, slow service.
Durango locals must expect poor service with crappy food. The food is very cheap compared to other local restaurants but is that really an excuse? The patio area and bar are very nice. That's where it pretty much ends. Our server needs to seriously find a new job. We asked for water and got none, she asked the table next to us if they wanted dessert and just dropped our check, and she refilled the ketchup putting new on top of old. And I wondered why the ketchup tasted like mold. Cold ketchup sitting in 80 degree plus temperatures all day, no thanks. The food is nothing spectacular. We ordered a reuben and the cheese steak. The cheese steak was decent ( no where near a true philly ) and should be eaten with a fork since the the roll absorbed all the grease. The reuben was edible but a far cry from anything you can get from a good deli. Note to the kitchen staff: when you say toasted on the menu, it really needs to be toasted and not half assed. Save your time and effort, eat somewhere else.
Review Source:Food was great, prices and value really great for Durango. The property is nostalgic, and the service was wonderful. We had burgers and hot dogs, and everyone was very happy and satisfied. We will be back in the future, and would recommend this as an easy going pub that provides a great value!
Review Source:I ordered a soup and my friend ordered a burger. My friend said he really enjoyed the burger but I had qualms about my soup. It was mostly water. There was so little chicken that I felt I was drinking chicken broth. The broth was tasty, don't get me wrong, but I feel like the whole bowl had fewer than 150 Calories and that's not really worth the money for me. A bag of Skittles would have filled me up more.
The service was good though. Our waitress was nice and she offered suggestions on what burger my friend should get. The soup I originally wanted to order was no longer available, which I was disappointed about because if you advertise a Soup of the Day then you should have it on that day.
I am combining my experience with that of my friend to make this a 3 star review. Otherwise, I would have given 2 stars and he would have given 4 stars. (We actually talked about this because he uses Yelp but said he was too lazy to review this place.)
Best Friend and I met my Brother for lunch. Â The ambiance of the Cafe is fun. Â We ate on the patio. Â Our server, Savannah was in training, but she serviced us with complete competence and friendliness. Â She is a true asset to here employer.
We ordered Potato Skins--- Yummy, and zucchini  strips- too thick, with heavy breading on them,, not a winner.
I was told that Olde Tymer's had the best burger in town per a former native...he was wrong. Â It was a decent burger but I've had better (see Carver's...). Â The service was good and I wish I had been able to see some of the old pharmacy antiques. Â Monday's I believe are $5 burger night, so I think my money would've been better spent on a Monday.
Review Source:While the burger was solid but not particulalry memorable, the space is a delight. In an old drug store ( I mean 120 year old), the old tin ceiilng survivices. Our congenial waitress added to the fun.
My wife had an interesting drink served in a  copper cup. Im still not sure what it was, but she loved it. This is not ar elaxing environment, it brisk and busy, lots of TVs for sport viewing.
Fun!
Olde Tymer's Cafe has a divey burger joint feel to it and coincidentally, offers the best burgers in Durango.
They have daily specials, which are worth checking out and vary from day to day.
The staff is fantastic. Not only are they friendly, but the waitress we had last week was downright helpful. The Brewer and I got there at 3:15 on Monday and were waiting for 4:00 to roll around so we could order the $4.95 burger special. Our waitress knew that, and she got our orders and put them in at 4 o'clock on the dot so we wouldn't have to wait longer to eat. That was extremely thoughtful of her and much appreciated by the hungry duo.
I plan on returning for German night, which has specials on brats and beer, and the next time I want a $5 dolla burger and killer fries.
Did I mention this place has beer? Well it does, and they offer domestics and local micro-brews for some of the best prices in town.
Sunday nights = $2 pints of Ska Brewery beers, which is my all-time fave beer. Â They have True Blonde, Pinstripe Red Ale, and Nut Busters Brown Ale on tap. Â
The food is your standard pub fare, so don't expect anything better. Â I got a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and a salad, and it was good. Â I think it was about $6.
If you're in town on Sunday night, check out this place for the $2 Ska Brews (brewed in Durango). Â Otherwise, skip it.
Our food here was overall OK. Â Nothing to write home about. Â There were some issues, however. Â
Food was slow in coming. Â Perhaps to be expected on a Saturday night. Â Something on the kids meal cheeseburger & fries was spicy. Â I couldn't tell if it was the burger or the coating on the fries because my mouth and shortly thereafter my stomach was burning from the roast beef sandwich with roasted pepper slices and cheddar-pretty good by the way but the menu should specify between roasted peppers and roasted jalapeno or hot peppers. Â Don't get me wrong, I enjoy spicy food but I don't enjoy needing Pepcid AC or not being able to taste anything else.
The BLT with Guac standard was spicy. Â Served to a kid as well. Â The buffalo wings were tender and meaty and the buffalo sauce was very hot.
My wife got the Saturday special, all you can eat ribs. Â The first portion was tender and flavorful-it pretty much fell off the bone. Â 4 bones for the first portion. Â The second portion was not as tender and again 4 bones. Â The third portion was on the chewy side and drowned in sauce. Â The fourth portion-again sloppy and even tougher. Â Coincidence that each successive portion was tougher and sloppier? Â Perhaps, but one wonders.
I did enjoy that the umbrellas were secured in the upright position with pencil's, 6-penny nails or whatever was handy.
