Delish food, lovely atmosphere (but it can be a little loud) and great service. The portions are more than enough and easily paired with one of the many wines on their wine list. The Lobster Bisque is amazing and my husband swears the steak is better than downtown Chicago...oh and the creme brulee, be still my heart! It is a wonderful place for a date night, business dinner, and they have a nice space for private dining events. Not the best place to take kids unless you're like the best parents in the world and your kids are going to 1. appreciate the food and 2. behave and not ruin the expensive dinner others are enjoying on their date night.

Way overpriced! The quality of their food and service does not justify the prices that they are charging. If you think that this is a fine dining restaurant, then you clearly have not ever visited a truly wonderful restaurant.

Best Steak in town!  The food is outstanding, the wine list is good, and the menu is about as cultured as it gets for Kankakee.  The service can be a little slow sometimes, however it is a Chicago style restaurant where the meal is supposed to be a big deal.  If you're in a hurry, don't go here.  BTW, the Tiramisu is the best I've ever had!

I grew up in Bourbonnais, and recently returned to visit family. Unfortunately the visit was over my anniversary. My wife rightfully assumed that we should still be able to celebrate, but the question was, where would we go for a nice romantic dinner? I hunted everywhere in Kankakee County and only found one option: 164 North.

I had never been there before, so I was a bit nervous. When I asked friends and family about it, the only comment I got was, "Wow, that's expensive." I am glad that we took a risk. We enjoyed our meal very much. I hope this place stays around. It is badly needed in town.

The atmosphere was ideal for a romantic evening. I must say that their website needs better photographs. I was concerned after seeing the website that it would have a lounge-type atmosphere, but that wasn't the case at all. It reminded me of other tasteful urban eateries, with a bit more space than I typically find in Washington, DC. The tablecloths and candlelight made my wife very happy.

We started with a spinach-artichoke dip appetizer. There were many more interesting items on the menu, but this was the one thing we could agree upon. I expected something run-of-the-mill, but this certainly wasn't. It was a beautifully creamy combination of fresh spinach and large artichoke hearts. It was much better than I had expected and was more than enough for the two of us.

As a main dish my wife had grilled jumbo shrimp and sea scallops. They were produced perfectly with a very nice side of lightly cooked vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. I had the Mediterranean salmon stuffed with shrimp. The sauce was excellent, and I had the same side of vegetables and potatoes.

Dessert was the only thing that was a bit disappointing, not because it was bad, but because it lacked creativity. The options were crème brûlée, tiramisu, chocolate cake, and some sorbets. At such a nice place I expected something a bit less common. We got the crème brûlée and enjoyed it very much.

I think to earn five stars a restaurant has to really surprise me with its value. I would not quite say this happened here. The bill was not as extravagant as I had been led to expect. Our total bill with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and 1 glass of wine came to about $80 before tip. We both had more than we could eat and took some food home. I think the value was fair, but not surprisingly good.

I would gladly recommend 164 North. I would especially encourage more Kankakee residents to give it a try. The value is even higher when you realize that the alternative generally involves at least 6 gallons of gas to get you to Chicago and back plus parking. Staying local might just save you $40.

My wife and I dined here for a special occasion; it was a surprise, for many reasons.

From the outside, it looks just like any other building in Kankakee. Once you enter the door, I was floored at just how nice the place was. Honestly, I did not expect what we walked into.

We went at about 4:30 in the afternoon for an early dinner, when we entered the place it was not very busy at all. It was the first time that my wife or I had been there and were a little surprised to see the place so empty but also we were shocked at how nice the place was. The walls are wood and brick, with a wood floor and neutral colors; the atmosphere was very inviting.

We were not in the door 30 seconds when we were greeted and seated. The hostess/server was very pleasant and while it was not the best service we have ever experienced, it by far was not the worst. Overall, the staff was prompt and courteous.

For starters, we ordered the puff pastry filled with portabella & Gouda cheese, served over spinach with port wine sauce. It was good, it wasn't quite the explosion of flavors that I would have thought.

We both enjoyed the tomato tortellini soup and bread that was served with the meal, the bread was fresh and warm served with some type of an herb butter that had a mildly pleasant flavor.

My wife stuck with the Filet, which by her account, was cooked to perfection. She hardly ever eats until she is uncomfortable; however, that night was an exception. I was allowed to taste a portion of her filet and was surprised at the texture and taste.

I enjoyed the Tournedos Parisian, which is a serving of two medallions of beef tenderloin. One of which was topped with a green peppercorn sauce while the other topped with béarnaise sauce. I found the meat to be cooked to my exact liking; I was not particularly fond of either sauce. I felt the brown sauce with the green peppercorns was a little bit like "packet" brown gravy and it lacked the fiery, spicy punch of some other peppercorn sauces I have had. Béarnaise sauce is never a favorite of mine, but I went after it anyway. I found that the sauce lacked depth and flavor; it was silky and smooth tasting, but not terribly outstanding or flavorful. Overall, I did enjoy the dish, the meat was to perfect temperature and cooked with care and had amazing texture and flavor in itself. My recommendation would be that a little work goes into the sauces. I would order it again, definitely! However next time I will try something else.

We finished with a tiramisu that was cut in the shape of a slice of pie and rather than covered by coco it was covered by cinnamon, I enjoyed it served this way, my wife did not.

Overall, we found this to be a nice little gem in Kankakee and we will be back, and bring others with us. The service and food was worth the price and the atmosphere was nice.
