On a Saturday night, my boyfriend and I went there for dinner after seeing an improv show nearby. We walked in and there was a band getting ready to perform, so the hostess asked us if we wanted bar side or dining room side and we picked dining room side. Problem was, there was no dining to be had that night.
We were seated and then waited 14 minutes before walking out! No server even acknowledged we were in the restaurant, even though one of them waited on a table next to us. I guess we weren't in her section! I had heard good things about One Trick Pony, but this experience turned me off to it and I will not be going back!
I was here earlier tonight around 6:30p.m. - 7:00p.m. after getting done with ArtPrize and I wasn't impressed. Gabby wasn't friendly. I was the guy wearing the green long sleeve shirt. She looked at everybody else at my table when saying goodbye but never once looked at me. We sat outside.
Review Source:My wife and I went here yesterday for lunch. I had the burger and chips, and my wife had the soup and sandwich. Very cool atmosphere and a few good beers on tap. But the food We felt like it was something we could have made at home. I would come here again but not a wow factor for us. Atmosphere was awesome, Service alright. and food just ok.
Review Source:I went here a few times with my ex, that relationship ended, but my love of the pony did not! The food is amazing, the service amazing, and the atmosphere super duper amazing!
This place is so freaking cool, they have all this old antique stuff on the wall and it manages to be really fun and interesting looking, not tgi Friday kitchy.
The food is to die for, and is always cooked to perfection, and the staff is fun and interesting. If you have to pick one place to try in GR go to the pony!
My last night up North, I had dinner here with a group of my crazy family members before catching a flight back to New Orleans. Apparently it was a popular night for dining, because my cousin tried a bunch of other places before she was finally able to make reservations here. And then, oddly, it was super quiet.
In any event, this is a pub-style bar/restaurant, though it's more restaurant than bar, and I hear it's crowded when there's an event going on down at the arena (which is nearby). However, the night we were there, it was peaceful and not at all crowded. To the point that we found rockstar parking right out front.
They have a handful of vegetarian options, which is nice, and a decent wine selection. I wouldn't recommend the white sangria, it was super sweet and not very tasty. But the sauvignon blanc I had after that was excellent. My black bean quesadillas were excellent, even as cold leftovers at 2am, which says something.
Not a place I would've picked, necessarily, but now that I've been there I'd totally go back. And next time I'm getting the trout.
Stopped in at One Trick Pony after being disappointed at another restaurant down the street. One Trick Pony redeemed our dining experience in Grand Rapids. Try the Bloody Mary bar - make it yourself. Its delicious. They have a good variety of food - including vegetarian options, pizzas and burgers served on pretzel bread. On a nice day you can sit on the patio. The staff was friendly and attentive. Looks like they have a good drink menu too - so I will be back on my next trip!
Review Source:This place had potential to be better, but didn't really seem to achieve it when I visited last week. Â I ordered a soup and 1/2 sandwich for lunch.
The soup was decent, but the cup was about 1/4 the size of a bowl. Â Had I known this, I would have just ordered a whole bowl. Â It was a vegetable soup, and had some good flavoring.
My 1/2 turkey sandwich was decent. Â But nothing really to write home about. Â My fiance had some New England clam chowder that was very good. Â The interior is pretty cool, with some older relics handing on the walls.
Our family has been long time patrons of The Cottage next door so my daughter and I thought we would try One Trick Pony for the first time. Â We went on a Friday night around 6. Â Not the best experience to say the least. Â The hostess was a bit rude in asking if we had reservations (which we didn't know we needed) and could have explained to us that the dozens of empty tables were spoken for. Â We were sat next to the bathroom, lovely. Â When asked about the soup, we were told two choices. Â I placed my order of soup and salad and the waitress comes back and says that "The soup is two days old so you'll have to go with the other choice." Â Lovely. Â The food was over priced, small portions and I could have made it myself. Â I think I'm sticking with The Cottage.
Review Source:One Trick Pony has a great spot in downtown Grand Rapids and was my first ever visit to a Grand Rapids eatery. Grand Rapids gets my props, they have got an awesome town and I cannot wait to go back and hopefully do a bar crawl. OTP wasn't exactly great, but a suitable place nonetheless to pop my metaphorical cherry In GR.
Clutching the door handle, ergonomically designed as a butcher's knife, one gets a laid back and cool vibe. On the left side of restaurant where I sat there was some seating which separated people from the bar and stage on the right. Even so, I was able to still see and hear the band perform. Can't say I was a big fan of the live music. It was a Thursday afternoon, right about 4:30, and the band was practicing throughout dinner. Not rehearsing, I'm talking about practice. Misplayed guitar chords, retuning the strings, drum rolls, mic checks, etc. Not the easiest sounds on the ears.
My food wasn't bad. Their salads were a bit quirky- a Greek salad with shrimp...what?! I'm a sucker for any weird version of Greek food so of course I jump at the opportunity because shrimp and feta shouldn't taste weird at all. Discount my sarcasm because the salad wasn't bad. OTP threw in some good-sized pieces of delicious shrimp and their oil and vinegar dressing was a nice complement to the feta. Not exactly the most filling salad for an entree, but then again, why am I ordering a salad for dinner when I should have probably got a beer and a burger?
One Trick Pony wasn't bad. Friendly, quick service, a great environment and the place just gives off that, "We make really good burgers, you should probably get one of those instead of an obscure salad that mixes seafood with feta cheese."
