First, let me say I am not the owner nor related in any way! Alsp please excuse my typos as I do not text very well, due to fat fingers!
I am an  old-school Chef,  as well as someone who dined around the world since 1951, (I said I was old...!) therefore I have the expertise & experience to critique many cuisines as to the current menu's recipes  authenticity  - or if they've created an abomination of poor food quality! Â
I also choose to dine in & support only  independent restaurants- as Mom & Pop or family run businesses-  are the backbone of America!
95% of independents fail in 12 months, so.....please:
" Independants, to survive, you MUST give superior service, salesmanship,    clealiness & great consistant service to compete and BEAT the chains that practise SUPERIOR RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS AND EXCELLENT GUEST SERVICE!"
That's why most chain restaurants have lines wrapping their exterior, while too many Mom & Â Pops disappear within a year!! Those are industry facts that the Orient practices as much as the Owner can with the labor force quality available here.
I believe that most owners of restaurants - as in any business - has good intentions, yet can never be perfect so as to rate an emotional five stars, yet can logically rate 4 with room for improvement.
Besides, Restaurant reviews that get 5 stars are usually written by the owners, friends or employees, while one  star reviews  are usually written by their competitors or disgruntled ex employees... or reallllllllly pissed off diners who never gave the owner or mgr a chance to fix an issue, or the owners refused to help said dining guests.
The Orient is the only Authentic Oriental Chinese restaurant left in all of Lee County- perhaps all of America!   Americans have no idea what authentic  Canton/Mandarin/Sechusan/ flavors are nor what old world authentic Chinese food is, thanks to those crappy buffets & take out strip mall so-called Chinese joints ... they have altered true Chinese recipes to the lowest level a human should never eat!
The owner of  The  Orient sticks to  all classical  recipes - all from scratch! The stuff you eat in strip malls & buffets all taste exactly alike.. because they ALL purchase t their food from single China-owned nationwide  manufacturer & distributor of pre-made pre- packed heat n serve Americanized Chinese foods, yet have NO resemblance to authentically  real Chinese!!! Â
I am an old retired Chef, Instructor & Hospitality Mgmnt  professional and have dined all over the world, I can attest that The Orient is indeed authentic Chinese cuisine, cooked by the owner daily from scratch - as I eat here weekly - & have for the past 16 years!
You who complain about the food must enjoy the buffets & Americanized take-out cookie-cutter  Chinrse joints! But you have been spoiled - ruined- by the bitterness of Chains - and now chain Chinese has altered forever to the negative the olde worlde true Chinese recipes - for reasons you must seek out yourselves on the internet -- so you can see for yourselves how & why so-called Chinese buffets & take-out cookie- cutter same-bland flavored strip-mall Chinese chains have destroyed the independent Chinese restaurant ownership!
Orient service is slow, you say? Not for freshly made scratch authentic cuisine! Â
It has never taken more than 15 minutes for our entrees -  whenever we dine here!! All orders are  COOKED TO ORDER,  not pre-made heat-n-serve flavorless unrecognizeable "food" from a frozen prepared food  company!!
Come with patience & Â an understanding of truely authentic Chinese foods, & you will appreciate the Orient! No buffets, no free crab legs, no pre-boxed pre-made desserts...just really authentic foods, hot freshly brewed tea, & super plum wine!!
Run away!! The service wasn't terrible she was actually very nice but she did forget a couple things we had asked her for. The only reason it gets 2 stars is for the service. The food was terrible! We ordered the dinner for two with bourbon chicken and beef chop suey and they both tasted the same...just like a tv dinner salisbury steak.
