Me and my wife visited The Garry Owen Irish Pub during The 2013 Gettysburg Reenactment. Â We visited because last year we tried their meatloaf which was delicious. Â
This year it was crowded so we had to wait a little bit, but it was well worth the wait. Â I ordered The Chicken Parmesan Dinner and it was amazing. Â Two pieces of chicken covered in delicious marinara sauce topped with spaghetti ... cant be beat. Â
A definite must go.
If you are looking for fine dining look elsewhere. If you want decent food with a fairly wide variety at medium ($12-15 typical price ) it is a good place to stop.
I like the atmosphere here and the food is pretty good.
I typically get the crab melt. It is ok but that close to Baltimore I would expect better. Especially when they have several highly touted crab cake menu items. Unfortunately there is not a jumbo lump to be found and the stringy crab meat makes one wonder if it is one of those "crab and assorted seafood" mixtures. Still the sweet  Potato fries are good.  Location and the old time Gettysburg appropriate decor keep me coming back when in town..
Yummy food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. One of the best places to eat in Gettysburg. Fairly priced for the area and the amount of food you get. Huge portions, so be warned! Love sitting out on the deck in the summertime, and wing nights on Tuesdays are the bomb! Best wings ever! The menu is extensive, so there's certainly something for everybody, and they also have daily dinner and lunch specials. I've never eaten anything I didn't like, and I've tried a lot of different dishes! Definitely check Ororke's out when you visit Gettysburg!
Review Source:This eatery in Gettysburg, PA was available for all of it's menu for a late lunch/early dinner for us on our trip walking around the Historical downtown section.
Boyfriend and I shared the Shepards Pie Potato Skins which was kind of silly because those were LITERALLY a meal in themselves (think two huge potatoes, split in half, stuffed with ground beef, corn, and cheese and broiled to a crisp). They were delicious, but we literally just picked at our main meals after that which was the Pot Roast sandwich and the Buffalo Chicken wrap, both with fries (and mine with Applesauce, because I am secretly a 7 year old).
Server was sweet, and it was a wonderful reprieve from the first real COLD weekend of the year. Would probably NOT go back, unless it was to check out some of the live music that they apparently have on the weekends!
I stopped in for lunch and a Guinness and not a bad place overall. Â Yes I saw the errant fly buzzing around like another reviewer mentioned. Â And for lunch I had the Reuben which was pretty good. Â The fries that came with were your basic food service fries so I probably should have went for the sweet potato fries instead. Â Service was fine as was the beer. Â Just your average food and pub.
Review Source:Lively, fun place in the heart of it all. Biggest tip: make reservations on a weekend. Decent service, large portions of  food. We all took food home. Had my Smithwick's on draft, which made me quite happy. Shepherd's pie potato skins were unique. Wish our fried pickles were chips, not spears. Food was above average. All in all: recommend it.
Review Source:Went here with a couple of friends. Â The place was packed but we only waited about 15 mins. Â When we were sat we immediately ordered. Â I got the glazed little smokey sausage appitizer and shrimp with fries. Â Wow what big portions! Â The shrimp were bigger than expected and there were no tails, so you could just pop them in your mouth. Â My friend got shepperd's pie potatoe skins and fried pickels. Â She loved them both. Â The other one got a club sandwhich which was huge. Â We only waited about 15-20 mins if that, to get our food. Â Came fast for being so packed. Â If we return we will definately hit this joint again. Â Yummy
Review Source:Avoid. No Irish to it, in terms of both decor and employees. Shepherds Pie was good, but the vegetables accompanying it were bland, steamed things from a Wal-Mart freezer bag. "Caesar salad" was ridiculously bad: Pre-chopped lettuce (from another Wal-Mart bag) accompanied by a container of store-bought dressing. There's another Irish pub in town that's the real deal. Go to the Garryowen Pub about a  block west of the roundabout in city center.
Review Source:Wanna risk food poisoning? I was just here and I sat at the bar. First of all, there were two large house flies having a buffet dinner inside the bar drink garnish holder on the top of the bar. Also I watched the bartender scoop ice directly into the GLASS drink glass. Not even use an ice scoop. What if the glass chipped a piece of glass into the ice bin.  Also when the bartender restocked her drink garnishes, lemon wedges, she used her BARE hands to grab the lemons from their  storage container and put them into the fly infested garnish holder.
I ordered the Beef Nachos... I was flabbergasted! First, they use the same cheap beef product you get at a Taco Bell. Definitely comes in premade in a bag. For the cheese, they use canned liquid cheese. Not even fresh cheese. This is the same fake liquid cheese you get at the movie theater.
There was nothing Irish on the menu in this so called Irish restaurant.
The restaurant employees were busy handgng at the bar texting on their phones.
All in all, this O'Rorke's is a place I would never recommend unless you want to get some type of intestinal issue caused by this places extreme lack of non-existant sanitation and food handling procedures.,
If the bar has a fly issue, I can just imagine how bad the kitchen is.
Large portions and excellent service. The Shepard's pie potato skin appetizer a meal. Â Wife had walnut feta salad and it was huge and fresh. I had corned beef sandwich special which was good, but not a 2" thick one like in NYC- but good. Apple fritter side was amazing. Caramel cheesecake excellent. Good prices. Recommended.
Review Source:This was recommended by a co-worker who lives nearby. We stopped for lunch after touring the battlefields. The weather was nice so we sat outside under the canopy of plants (a few leaves fell on the table, but no big deal).
Service was stellar and the food and beer very good. They were out of the hoppiest beer, but my brother had never had Yuengling, so that was new for him.
I would go back (not sure if I'll ever be in Gettysburg again, but I've been twice now so who knows?)
One of the friendliest places in town. Â Great food (everything from apps to full entrees, go for the loaded cheese fries or wings to start), awesome daily specials (Mondays feature the BEST $10 strip steak you will ever taste), fantastic bartendress (looking at you Becky) and festive atmosphere make this a Gettysburg can't miss. Â Sit out on the patio and watch the world go by, you won't regret it!
Review Source:Beer was cold, fish and chips was mediocre and while my son ordered the "popcorn shrimp" Â these bad boys came were 20 counts if not 16's. Â The crust on them was pretty nasty, it wasn't a light touch. Â But hey, I was looking for a cold beer and a sandwich. Â It fulfilled those needs. Â I most likely would go back again as the options are pretty limited in Gettysburg...ok well all of central PA.
Review Source:Great variety of appetizers and sandwiches offered, which is exactly what we were looking for at the time. While there were a number of full meal entrees available, we stuck to something simple. Wings, sandwiches and wraps were all good.
The server was very helpful when we ordered, and attentive throughout the meal.
This was a pleasant surprise, and we will be back at some point.
We were in Gettysburg during the Nor'easter in October. Â We went to this bar twice during the snow storm. Â For a bar, it was great, the people, the ambiance, however, I hate to say it, I was not pleased with my crab cake melt. Â It was too rich for me. Â I would definitely go back, though!
Review Source:Stopped in after touring the Gettysburg battle sites with my wife. It was super busy and we decided to eat dinner at the bar, since we were crunched for time. The food was great, the beers were plentiful, and the atmosphere was hopping. I ordered the Black and Blue Chicken sandwich. There was plenty of sides and the sandwich was great. My wife ordered a flank steak salad, which was huge. So much so, that she couldn't finish it. The guitarist that played around 8pm, was phenomenal. So much so, that we asked if he had an CDs to buy. All in all, the place is great for pub food.
Review Source:We dropped into O'Rorke's for lunch on our first day in Gettysburg. I had the Rueben and my wife had the Buffalo Shrimp Wrap. Both were very good - the Buffalo Shrimp Wrap had some serious heat to it. But the thing was brought us back a second day was the Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout that they had on tap. The staff was friendly and attentive. the outdoor seating under the pergola with the trumpet vine growing on it was nice and cool on a warm day.
Review Source:We were in Gettysburg to visit the battlesite, and after our long day, we were looking for a place to grab some dinner. Â We were there for the anniversary of the battle, so the town of G-Burg was absolutely mobbed. Â No big deal - we knew what we had signed up for. Â The reviews for this place were pretty good, so we decided to give it a shot. Â We needed a table for 4 and the hostess told us it would be about 20-25 minutes. Â Well, about 4 minutes later we were seated. Â Kind of strange but whatever...
O'Rorke's has a bar area, a dining room and an outdoor section. Â We were seated in the dining room area. Â The decor is part dive bar - part Irish pub. Â The table we were seated at was a little sticky and the room was a little on the warm side. Â I would classify the servers here as "young and inexperienced" but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Â Sometimes, the young kids really hustle and the service turns out great. Â Not so much here. Â Our waitress seemed really spaced out and had some major difficulties with simple orders. Â She had no idea what beers they had on tap or it they made any kind of frozen drinks. Â She also took an incredibly long time to get us our drinks but that may have been the bartenders fault.
On to the food - there were 4 of us. Â Two people had salads, one had the crabcake sandwich and I had the Buffalo Chicken wrap. Â My wrap was OK, but it was incredibly small. Â The salads were actually huge and pretty good. Â My wife had the Greek salad - I had a few bites and it was good. Â The fries were pretty bland, too.
Overall, I would say this place has average food and spotty service. Â If I lived in the area, I would probably give it a second chance. Â Since I don't, I doubt I will be heading back. Â I can't even say there are better choices in the area (since I don't know), but I would probably roll the dice with a couple other places. Â However, this place definitely seemed OK to go in and grab a drink.
Walked by O'rorke's and saw the sweet potato fries and had to stop here to eat. I ordered the three cheese grilled cheese sandwich, sweet potato fries, and apple fritters. The apple fritters were great, well above expectations, but the sweet potato fries were a disappointment. They were on the cold side and flavor wise not great for sweet potato fries. Service and prices were both good. I highly recommend the apple fritters.
Review Source:Wow!! Excellent!! Our party of 6 recently lunched here while visiting Gettysburg. Â Very casual pub setting with a surprising menu. Â Many great options to choose from. Our order consisted of a 1lb burger (our teenage son's dream come true), nachos and wings both on special for $5 each, spicy clam chowder in a bread bowl (all I can say is wow- loved it), and the Guiness meatloaf sandwich (my husband's dream come true) and Guiness on tap, of course! Â Great food, good prices, perfect!
Review Source:This is a consistently good place. Good, moderately priced food, a bar with some semblance of character and a waitstaff that earns its tips. While there's Guinness on tap, of course, O'Rorke's does s nice job of rotating something new, interesting, and regional into its tap selection. The booths in the bar section are large, high-backed, and wooden. Get one if you can.
Fish and Chips and Shepherd's Pie are good choices. Nice outdoor seating in summer, but try to get the side seats and avoid the car fumes on Steinwehr Avenue.
Had a ginormous meal...really thick meatloaf sandwich open faced topped with gravy...yum with fries and delicious apple fritters. Â they have a nice menu selection, it's in a good people watching spot, definitely a place to come get a beer and apps if you're in town (i didn't). Â the meal really could have served as 2 meals and ididnt eat that much rest of day.
Review Source:Visited this place 10 years ago on a trip to the battlefield and it was good then. Â Currently, reasonably priced food and drinks, and the beers were ice cold after a day visiting the battlefield and museums. Â Watched the bike parade during bike week from the patio overlooking the street and it was awesome and had a great time.
Review Source:A former local was showing me around Gettysburg, and this was her first suggestion for dining. We had outdoor seating. They have both Guinness and Harp on tap--the true mark of a decent Irish pub.
The menu features a decent blend of traditional and Irish pub food. Our wait service was a bit slow when it came to the check, but otherwise our server was on top of our refills.
After our paranormal ghost tour with EMF meters just we decided to look for a bar...voila! just across the street was O'Rorkes...how convenient huh?...we decided to get a few drinks before going to our B&B  at the Dobbin house. It was past midnight and there was a small group of people outside drinking...so there was hope!  We sat outside, but no one seemed to be serving so we went straight to the bar. . Erick  (but on the receipt says Aaron) very nice guy, local, very attentive and made a rocking Cosmo adding Grand Marnier! I must have had 3...losing count...and a biker offered me a ride on his Hardley and heck yeah  we left at 65mph! The biker returned me to the bar, I gave Erick nice tip and we left. My bf wasn't upset just made me think that I could've been "taken" the guy was a local and stuff happens. My bf said that without the Cosmos I never would've jumped on the bike...hmmmm let me think about that one for a while... for his sake if he reads this review, yes baby....it was the cosmos!... So, great service, clean bathrooms, cool people..we stayed passed 1:30AM! Just a great time.
Review Source:Being a Civil War reenactor, I travel to Gettysburg more often than a sane person should. That said, there are two restaurants that I hit every single time I'm in town: O'Rorke's is #1 on that list.
The place is often crowded, noisy and busy. Don't let that dissuade you. Their Shepard's' Pie and Guinness Beef Stew are simply fantastic. They are a must-have. Very thick, tasty, and good sized portions. I've not had better at a restaurant. Prices are reasonable.
Really--- if you're in the 'burg and not hitting O'Rorke's, you've chosen poorly.
I can't tell you how nice it was to enjoy the beginning of Spring on the deck of O'Rorke's with good friends and a bottle of Woodchuck. The atmosphere is great. The food, however, leaves something to be desired. I mean, it's decent, and I'm sure it's better for a non-vegetarian, but my one requirement of bar food is delicious fries, and unfortunately, O'Rorke's fries don't do it for me. But a good time regardless.
Review Source:The first place I ate on my first trip to Gettysburg was O'Rorke's. It would have been nice to sit outside and watch the tourists go by clutching their cheesy new Civil War souvenirs but the rain kept us inside. The inside is a little small, but not too crowded, with a kind of a "welcome home" vibe (hard to explain).
For dinner I ordered a pulled pork sandwich which, for some unknown reason, came with a slice of tomato and lettuce. I've seen some places put these things on the place next to the sandwich for you to ignore, but O'Rorke's puts them in the sandwich. I'm not a fan of this. The sandwich came with two sides (I think) the only one of which I can recall are the apple fritters which were new to me. If the idea is new to you too, an apple fritter, I found out, is a fried piece of deliciousness the size and shape of an apple slice filled with apple pie filling. I wish they gave you more than just five because they are amazing.
While the apple fritters were amazing, and they have Guinness on tap, overall O'Rorke's is just a pretty average 3 / 5.
