Hunterstown Diner

I meet my parents here on a fairly regular basis.  We met for lunch one day and the special was a rack of ribs for $6.  I kept telling myself that there was no way these could be good (based on the price) but I ordered them regardless.  They were the pork short ribs and they were excellent!!  They were perfectly done and were not smothered in rub or sauce, which is the way I like them.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I don't believe these are offered on the everyday menu, which is a shame.

As good as the lunch was, the breakfast fell short of expectations.  I ordered poached eggs, corn beef hash, home fries, and toast.  The eggs were ok but were sitting in a bowl that had not been completely drained.  The home fries were not good, even a bit slimy and underdone.  I had to douse them in salt just to be able to eat them.  I still didn't finish them.  I asked for the corn beef hash and asked for it to be "fried hard".  They got this part right.  The hash was delicious.  The rye toast was ho-hum but I might be spoiled.  The usual breakfast place I attend uses local, hand sliced rye.

For breakfast, the diner is below average.  For lunch, it is above average.  That is the reason for the 3 stars.
