Love o'sullys pub! Â This place had a bad rep for being some racist biker bar (previous owners i've heard) but if you actually go in you will see that it is completely unwarranted. The owner Josh is the coolest guy and has made his pub a place for musicians and artists to have shows and display their art. Aside from Josh's transformation of this once sketchy establishment, to a super cool community hub, they actually have a great beer selection - everything from PBR on draft to specialty bottled beers. (my fav is Lagunitas IPA on tap)
If you check out their FB they even have secret sayings that give you discounts on beers, oh and make sure to look by the refrigerator for other beers on tap because if you only check out the ones by the counter you might think that the selection is limited.
***This is probably Santa Maria's most underrated beer pub, and it is WAY safer/cooler than coachman or louie B's which are just sketchy gangster bars where people get stabbed. If you want a chill place to have a brew try this place!
Pro's :
-friendly staff
-cool owner
-live music
-pool table/darts/Foosball
-lots of parking (more around back)
-good beer selection
-open late (especially show nights)
Con's:
-seems like sketchy part of town, but it's actually not. (I live down the street from this place)
If you want to go to a dive bar where everybody knows everybody...this is the place to go! Â You can only get beer there, but they have a pretty good selection. Â And did I say they're cheap? Â Yup, they are! Â They have a juke box, pool table, foosball and darts. Â The pool table is usually played by the regulars, but they seem pretty nice. They have a chalk board where you can buy beers in advance, which is pretty cool to see. Â Every so often they have live bands playing, which can be ear piercing and hard to hear anyone talking. Â One fav band to see there is Klockwyze...just get there early!
Review Source:O'Sullivan's Pub is going through a bit of a transitional phase right now with the expansion into the former Jay's Fish N Chips location. I've heard a lot of good things about the expansion, including claims that the beer lineup will improve (desperately needed).
As it currently stands it's a nice place, good alternative to the other bar down the street. It's open late, seemingly against the Santa Maria nightlife or lack thereof - so that's a plus. There are live shows, I have not attended one but it seems like this place gets pretty poppin' when there is one.
However to me, as in stands, O'Sullivan's is a place where I can get a bottled beer, play pool on a broken pool table and mostly be less than entertained. I'll be happy to write a new review once the expansion is underway.
