Great Atmosphere...Great Service, Excellent Menu Selection!

Met up with two friends for dinner on a  Friday night. It was difficult to find parking as they were really busy. However, we were seated right away and the waiters were attentive.

I ordered the turkey cranberry and jack sandwich on wheat bread. When my sandwich came out, the bread was white. I told a nearby waitress and she had them fix it right away. It's possible that my waiter misheard me because it was quite loud inside. Either way, he was gracious about it and I had the correct dish in about ten minutes.

The food itself is decent enough, but not amazing - especially for the price. The portions are huge but I was left feeling unsatisfied.

Overall, the service is good and I had a pleasant experience but I don't know if I would return.

This place is one of my husband's favorite hang out spots .... he has been coming here since he was a teenager ;-)
Love the band Friday nights and the environment is great for chilling with some friends on any night. We frequent this place for dinner

the new summer menu is amazing --- my recent favorite has been the brownie bites

Okay, when you have a friend from England who is very, let's just say experienced with pub life and world traveler, tell you that they really like P. Wexford's, you know we have our own little gem right here in Modesto.  All my friends love this pub and we often get together at PW for birthdays, meetings and other socials.

Yes, at times the music gets a little too loud, or you don't get the waitress as soon as you want her, but overall the atmosphere, beer and food more than make up for the occasional problem issue.

Since it was soo hot today instead of being in a hot kitchen cooking dinner we decided to take the kids and us out for dinner. We go to pwexfords it came highly recommended by our friend and we walk in are seated and order our food.. while we are waiting for our food we realize its around ninty degrees in there, the kids had sweat running down there poor little cheeks by the time we got our food we were so uncomfortable we couldnt even enjoy it the kids were miserable and we rushed through our dinner to get the heck outta there. The service was great the waitress was very apoligetic about the heat. The food was ok, maybe woulda been better if we werent about to pass out from heat exhaustion...i dont know if the owner realizes it or not but by being cheap with the air conditioner hes making the customers very uncomfortable and when its 104 degrees outside u go into a restaurant to cool off relax and have a nice meal and nice time with the family and instead its so hot the kids are fussy the husband is irratated and your sweating the whole time that doesnt make a for a happy customer....i dont know if the ac was broke or if the owner just forgot to turn it on but if on our next visit we walk inside and its hot at all we will turn around jump in our air conditioned car and go to a different place that cares if there customer is comfortable while they eat.                 thanks,   A VERY HOT CUSTOMER..

We were here on a Friday night about 9pm. This was our first time here. They had a pretty good live band playing. The place was pretty packed. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere. We were only there for drinks but would like to return for dinner next time.

Food quality and selection is very good. Beer selection is also good.Prices aren't bad for the quality.

Thursdays are busy for live music and pint night and they are pretty fun, as long as you don't mind your music a bit loud.

We ordered a Ruben and the Blackened File Fish. The blackened seasoning they used was very good. I substituted the rice for mashed potatoes and I'm glad I did. The Ruben was one of the better I've tasted. Not too long ago I had the fish and chips but it was too greasy and had too much breading.
This place is real festive and fun.

Must have passed by this place a million and one times, last night we decided to stop in.  Was surprised at how tiny it was, but it was a cute Irish themed pub.  Our waitress was Kim.  She was a very friendly server, and as I watched her work the room, she treated all the customers with a warm smile and ease that gave you the impression she was welcoming you into her home.  The other server, don't know her name, but brunette also worked the room really well, picking up our empty glasses and dishes and they both made sure our drinks were filled and we were happy customers.

Now onto the food.  Me and my bf shared a meal, the portabella bacon burger and fries.  So good!  And so much, I couldn't finish my half.  This was the first time I did not need to put mustard and ketchup on my burger, it was perfect the way it was.  I had some yummy Moscato wine and my bf had that pretty beer that is poured in 3 layers.  I think it's called Black and Tan?

Anyways, we will definitely be back to try the more traditional dishes they have to offer.  Kim - great job!  Manager - you have a good staff!  Cooks - Yum!!  Wish I had the option to give your establishment 10 stars, you deserve it.

Crazy about the Yelp reviews.  You look at the most recent and they state 4-5 stars for this place.  Sad when you go it must be a "off" night.  Saturday early evening I guess that isn't the case or it was just our waitress.  The first was the drink hostess.  She was very curt and not friendly or welcoming.  More annoyed than anything.  Then came the food waitress.  Who was friendly but once our food was served she ignored our table.  Being it is a pub once the beer is gone you should be given the chance to order another.  I drink shit tons of liquid when I eat.  Out of water out of beer.  Good thing my lady doesn't or I would have had to get up and order straight from the bar.  Sorry being a restaurant you serve me.  Thats why I pay.

    Onto the food...
Being an Irish pub I went with the shepherds pye and my woman got the turkey cranberry sandwich.  Well...  cheddar cheese on a Shepherd pie?  It was just disappointing.  At least it was made with lamb which was the only highlight.  But overall seemed like campbells soup poured over frozen veggies with lamb crumbles and some mashed spuds.  Cheddar cheese on top.  Very bland.  The turkey cranberry sandwich was good as that really was the reason I gave two stars.

Once the crowd started to come in it got very loud to where I couldn't hear.  I would imagine that the music was turned up a little.  oh well.

All in all probably won't return since the food didn't impress or did the service.  You can get good beer anywhere anymore.

Just an all around great place to get a few beers and some pub grub.my favorite bar/pub in modesto. Lots of beers on tap ,good food, live music, friendly service , attractive servers ,whats not to like? I definetly recommend this place to anyone.

I was one of the first customers here on opening day. This place USED to be everything good in a pub. Super authentic, no TV's , traditional music on the juke, Celtic bands all the time and a great imported beer selection with solid food.

While the owner Patrick could be a bit arrogant, he knew how to run a real pub.

Now, it's just another crappy sport's bar with a think "Irish" veneer. All of the old charm is gone and replaced with typical Central Valley doucheyness.

    Terrible.

    R.I.P. P. Wex, I knew you well.

I like P. Wexford's. Always have. This is one of the first establishments I ever had a beer at. I have drank many beers and had pretty much everything on their menu over the years. I have been coming to Wexford's for over 12 years now. Even though they changed ownership they still have what it takes to stay in business.

Great atmosphere, great food and one of the best beer selections in the area! If you haven't been yet, GO!!!

    P Wexford Pub:

ok first it is a pub good  beer and seating area.  Service is good and clean to a little dark for lighting but nice over all.

Food :  Menu is  well rounded, dinner, lunch, appetizers , full bar  and dessert.

The "Deep Fried vegetables" for appetizer was very good. Now I had the the Pub Plate sausage  on a bed of sour kraut it was  ok the potatoes  were very good and fluffy.  If I go back I will have to try their Shepard's pie, I should have gotten it that day but I was talked out of it.

Good fish and chips with a fun and appropriately attentive waitress.  Good beer.  Darts.  What more could you ask for.

If you don't smoke avoid the patio.  Blech.

We recently moved to Modesto and missed our favorite pub.

Not anymore.  P Wexford's Pub has great beer on tap, even better food and friendly, prompt service.  We've been there several times in the last few weeks and have not been disappointed once.

The fish and chips are as good as it gets.  Light, flavorful and the perfect compliment to a tall Deschutes Inversion IPA or Mirror Pond Ale.  For a more heartier fare, I thoroughly enjoyed the bangers and mash, while Mrs. S feasted on the Shepherd's pie.

We choose off-peak times to frequent P. Wexford's because I dislike the crowds.  It's difficult to find off-peak times, because this place packs 'em in pretty regularly.  If you don't mind the wait when it's busy, you'll be rewarded.  It's that good.  Enjoy!

I ordered the pub plate.  It came with three different kinds of sausage and mashed potatoes.  I liked the andouille the best.  It was a little spicy.  The other two sausages were just ok.  The mashed potatoes were lumpy and bland.

I definitely wouldn't bring kids to this pub because the drunk guy next to us was cussing very loudly.  The atmosphere in general was pretty loud.  I guess you might think this is normal for a pub/bar, but it was lunchtime.

The service was friendly, but we had to flag them down for drinks several times.

Overall I might eat here again as there were several items to choose from that sounded good.  But it's a little pricey.  Almost $16.00 for the pub plate and $13.00 for a sandwich.

    Two words. Food poisoning.

My husband and I ate here last night and both spent the evening feeling very ill!  It was awful! He ordered the sliders and I the fish and chips.  P. Wexfords used to be a very fun and clean spot but last night it appeared dingy.  The booth I sat in seemed to have only one spring left in it.

Also disappointing, the price tag of it all.  For two people who only ordered one drink each and dinner we were left with a bill of $40.  Which to some might not seem that bad but for pub food it was a bit much.  Especially considering how we continued to pay for eating there the rest of the evening.

We were once regulars at this establishment however now I will say we will never go back.

We only stopped here for drinks, but I loved the atmosphere! I love down-to-earth type bars and this was one of those. Everyone there was enjoying their beers and just talking.

They have a lot of options for beer on tap. In the back corner they have two dart boards. On Saturday nights they have live music. They have an event board up and from the look of it, sounds like a good time every night!

We will def go back here; maybe we'll get there early enough for dinner.

-Only negative, they closed at 12 on Saturday night. Not sure if this is their standard hours. The place was still packed so it couldn't have been from lack of customers.

Here's an update 3 years later, and things have gotten even better. I'm sad all of my favorite servers from my early 20's are now gone, but in their place seem to be very friendly, perky new servers, so that's okay.

The menu has changed again, and is the biggest I think it's ever been, and I LOVED two of the last three dishes I got there, the first (portabello mushroom burger) was the exception, and I think I didn't like it simply because it was the first month of my pregnancy and nothing was tasting good to me at the time. I have'nt eaten mushrooms since, something I LOVED before I was preggo. NOT Wex's fault.

The last three times I've eaten here (all since June 2011) have been during my pregnancy, so beer, unfortunately hasn't been on the menu for me. I have noticed that the beer seems to have gone up in price, though. Not sure what a pint costs now, but a 20 oz costs something like $6.50? Kind of steep...

Still, I can't think of a place around that offers the variety of beer on tap, and when you really like to enjoy your beer, or try new ones, The Pub is the place to go. One thing that has never changed here is the ambiance. There is just something about P Wex that makes me feel happy. Maybe it's reminiscing on the hundreds of Thursdays spent there with my best friends for pint night over the years. Whatever it is, it continues to be a place I'm happy with.

I like Wexford's, let me just get that out there before I start.

The reason I'm actually writing this review now is because I feel like I need to demonstrate somehow my appreciation for Wexford's - probably due to my recent visit to that new sports bar and grill McHenry's just down the street. That place sucked so bad and it made me realize how awesome Wexford's is.

So anyway, I've been to Wexford's a few times and I haven't been disappointed since. I don't think you can really go wrong with anything you order from here. The servers in this place are super friendly and attentive and are just generally cool people.

All the food I've had at Wexford's has been pretty proper but I really have to talk about their special on the 15th of September - the love burger. Oh man, it'll probably sound way corny but I loved the love burger. Grilled patty topped with avocado, pepperjack cheese, jalapenos, and bleu cheese with a side of garlic fries? Oh baby. Granted, I felt like a giant ball of crap after eating all of that but hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time, right?

    Eat here.

I hate to admit that I no longer enjoy my time at Wexford's. Since the new ownership came in and tried to turn it into something so sports-centric, and hired wait staff at least partially based on their looks, it just hasn't been the same.

If you and your friends are the only ones on the patio, there specifically for the great beer selection (which thankfully has not gone to pot) and you want to turn off the television, you should not have the owner, THE OWNER come back out and turn it back on and give you a hard time about it.

Wexford's has long been a place people have gone to expect good food, a relaxed, home-town pub feel, and excellent beer choice. Don't turn the one place folks have had that didn't center around sports that served drinks turn into one more sports bar in Modesto. The one or two screens were fine, not 15.

And don't serve me my delicious microbrew in a Coors Light NASCAR pint, please, it's just hurtful.

Trivia Nite on Tuesdays! Have you ever love something so much you hate it! I love the beer and the cheesy fodue bread dish but I'm always on a diet so this place just sabotages my waist line, but it's sooooo goooood.

    Dear P. Wexfords Owners,

I think you guys are doing a great job since taking the place over.  I loved the world cup coverage and enjoy weeknights at your fine establishment.  I give you guys 4 stars.  I would very much like to give you a 5th star but I need the following things to do so:

1.)  The Harp Fish Sandwich!... I look for it every time I come in... so good.  Please put it back on the menu.

2.) Irish Pub!  I feel like you guys are losing a bit of focus that first and foremost you are an Irish Pub. I can't put my finger exactly on it, but I will think about it some more.  Please stick to your roots and don't let that menu get too out of control with tacos and other randomness.

3.)  Beer!  The selection in the old days was epic because there were a wide array of beers that you couldn't get anywhere in all of Modesto (except maybe Bevmo).  I miss those days.  Bring back the variety.  I can go anywhere and get a Stella or a bud or even a Sierra (although I am not saying get rid of Sierra).  Get some random beers in that aren't saturated all over town.  How about Kilkenny? John Courage? McEwans?  ...just to name a few.  Micros are good, but see my point #2 above... Irish (or at least European) is what I'm talking about!  Now I know you may not sell out of these more random smaller beers, but us beer junkies will do our best to drain the keg.  If you build it we will come ;)

Thanks so much for listening.  And I look forward to drinking at your fine establishment soon.

    Love,
    Ryan (aka Bender)

I was politely contacted by the new owner of P Wexfords about a year back asking me to come back and try his place again. I wouldn't budge. My friends beg me to come down and hang out with them at P Wexfords, I wouldn't budge. I had such a horrible experience here before that I never imagined I would be back. But, I did. Last night.

This visit was a lot more pleasant than my first. The Sharks playoff game was proudly being broadcast on several TV's. The bartenders and the waitresses were all in good moods, and the patrons were relaxed and having a good time, myself included.

Minus one star for not being some place I would typically hang out and minus another for having a ridiculous amount of beers on tap but not one of them being an amber.

I will try them again and I probably wont let 2 years go by like the last time. Thumbs up for turning it around.

I used to come to P. Wexford's pretty regularly when I was a student at CSU Stanislaus. I recently had a chance to go back and was glad I did. They still have a great selection of beer, plenty of deep-fried goodness, and that laid-back pub atmosphere.

They also used to have live Celtic music once in a while, which was always fun.

Just ate here last Saturday and it was great!

My garlic fries (without cheese) we're some of the best I've had. And I love my garlic fries.

I'll have to admit, this place recently changed for the better. Before it was good, but hit and miss. It looks like they may have hired new waitresses and dumped the bad ones.

About the music it's an Irish Pub, not Fat Cat, so the music is more folk and some cover bands. I've seen some great shows here and of course some that I couldn't even sit through.

I've been going to Wexfords for years. It's the best beer pub in town, but it has potential to be even better. Ownership has changed in the last few months and more taps and TVs have been added. Unfortunately, more taps dosen't mean better selection. Lots of repetitive styles of light beers, IPAs, Wheat beers, and Pale Ales dominate their selection at the expense of darker, more flavorful ales.  How 'bout a few Liberty Ales, Jamaica Ales, Boont Amber Ales or similar to balance the menu? An occasional California or Oregon Stout would be nice too.
They've recently added some hard alcohol too. I like that trend!
The food is really good. Fish and Chips are first rate.  Pretzel coated chicken, sausages, burgers, and sandwiches are good also. The  Shepherds Pie is real good too.
The bartenders and servers are friendly and make you feel welcome.
Hopefully soon Wexfords will be 5 star.

M husband and I have been going to Wexford's since they opened. We love the food, the beer, and the atmosphere! We've made friends with several of the employees over the years, so going "where everybody knows your name" makes it more fun too.   We take all of our visiting friends to the pub and they all enjoy it too. Even though it's a pub, it's also family/kid friendly which is nice, but we can also go and enjoy pint night with our friends and no kids. So it's great for both!

We've never had a problem with our food or beer. Only recently have we had a problem with one of the waitresses. We went in on a slow afternoon and it took our waitress forever to take our drink order, and our food order. We saw her in the back eating instead of taking our order, and then when she brought us our food, and later our bill, she was eating! We refuse to be served by her when we go there now. But with that said, one rotten apple shouldn't spoil the whole bunch, so we continue to go, and enjoy their food, beer, and ourselves, otherwise.

I've been going to Wexford's pretty much since it opened, and while I miss much of the original staff, I still love the beer, the food, and the vibe.

Favorites: fish and chips (of course), the reuben, the smokehouse ranch salad, and my new favorite of all favorites...the frickin' amazing pulled pork sandwich! (And I grew up just outside of Memphis - I know good B-B-Q!)

Love this place.   Countless beers on tap but I always go for the Guinness. I guess I'm a purist.
Fish and chips are awesome and the Irish cheddar burger so yummy and big enough I can only eat  half  the serving so the prices are not bad if you consider the leftovers!
The only draw back is the place is loud!  Even w/only 2/3 of the tables full you can hardly hear your conversation. That said it is kid friendly b/c of how loud it is in there!

It may be easy to call this the best pub in Modesto since its the only one, but even if there was another I would find it difficult to think it could compete with P. Wexford's. I've been visiting that pub since it first opened, and the atmosphere is peaceful, warm, and friendly. Though others who have reviewed have mentioned poor service, I've never experienced the same. In fact, when I went there for my 21st birthday, the waitress who served us not only gave me my first drink for free, but even recommended another for me. When I took her up on it, she got that one for me for free too! Now really, does that sound like bad service to you?

Great food, good drinks, good service, and good tunes if you go when a band is performing. Go get some friends and head to the pub, you won't regret it.
