I'll admit that when I saw a Mexican restaurant in Pine Bush, I was hesitant to stop in. My fiancé convinced me to give it a try and it was absolutely worth it. Being from Boston, we were a bit judgmental going in, but this restaurant was a pleasant surprise, so much so that we went for a second time a week later. The service was hospitable and timely, and the authentic food was tasty. I ordered the chimichanga and was happy there were leftovers. The chips and salsa were especially delicious. When we received the bill, we were shocked by the reasonable price because the exact same meal at a Boston restaurant would have been double the cost. I know people are disappointed that there is no liquor or beer there yet, but that should not stop them from trying such excellent cuisine. I guess it goes to show that you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover, or in this case a restaurant by its location.
Review Source:Service is extremely slow (and poor quality when you do get it) - even if there's noone else in the restaurant. Â The salsa they serve with the chips is horrible - tastes like pureed tomatoes. Â The owners say that people love their salsa, but there's NO WAY! Â The only thing worth having is the guacamole - it's made to order and is excellent. Â The meat in their tacos, burritos, etc is so dry - and, there's not much seasoning. Â The owners say they're from Texas so they should know a little bit about mexican food, but this is such a disappointment. Â They don't have a liquor license, and while you can bring it in why bother when the food isn't outstanding. Â Most people end up going next door to the bar to get some beers to bring over, but now the bar is serving excellent burgers, etc. - so, why bother going back to the restaurant? Â Such a shame...Pine Bush doesn't have a true mexican restaurant - with the proper management and licenses this should have been able to make a go of it. Â As it is, I don't know how long it will be able to stay in business.
Review Source:My sons (12 and 15) decided to go out for some Mexican food. We saw that there was a new place in Pine Bush. It's in the location where the old Pine Bush diner had been.
When we entered, I was a little surprised. We were the only customers (dinner time on a weekday). Â Nevertheless, we sat and were greeted by a courteous waitress. She got our drinks and gave us time to pick out our orders. I really wanted something with shrimp. There's no seafood on the menu at all - just chicken and beef. I was disappointed with that.
Solid Mexican takeout. The tamales were a little under-meated and over-masa'd for my tastes but the rice and beans are really good (nice to see genuine effort going into sides) and the complimentary chips & (excellently smoky) salsa were great. Pretty much dirt cheap for the amount of food, and it survived the trip home in polystyrene containers without turning into a sweaty mess, which is always a plus. This place is on a holding pattern of three stars until we sit and eat there.
Review Source:The first time I went here, I was slightly disappointed. I got chicken enchiladas, which wound up being quite dry. My dad ordered tacos and said that they were decent, but he wasn't blown away. However, knowing that they had JUST opened, I recently went back for some takeout in hopes that they had the glitches worked out.
My second experience was FAR better than the first. I ordered enchiladas again, but this time with extra sauce (just in case) and they were really good. My husband wasn't completely sold on his tamales, but definitely loved the bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos and the complementary chips & salsa.
3 stars for now, but as time goes on, this could very easily be a 4 star experience. Give them a shot so they have the opportunity they deserve!
This was the best meal I'd eaten on a 6-day NY/NJ excursion. I had the Chicken Tomatillo Burrito and hubby had Steak Fajitas (he's VERY picky!) Then he ordered another batch to go.
I totally agree with the other reviewer who mentioned the wonderfully warm and savory salsa. It's not chunky, but you can't get this flavor anywhere in the Midwest. The chips served with the salsa were fresh and salted just right.
The service is genuinely friendly and the owners are exceptionally willing to adjust to your spice level and ensure you've enjoyed your meal. Very attentive to their customers.
The kitchen staff had recently undergone an some major changes and the flavor was ALL there. I recommend adding the "supreme" element to your meal, which includes fresh lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream (and maybe avacado) It's the perfect fresh twist to add to the meal.
Portions are quite reasonable/large and if you save room for dessert, you're in for a treat! I tried the Tres Leche cake, which is a new addition to the menu. YUM, it's wonderfully moist and not TOO sweet. Again good portion size.
I don't make it into Pine Bush often, but I will look forward to revisting this restaurant on my next visit!
Our meals, including soft drinks and the extra to-go order were under $40. VERY reasonable.
As a last word, I never write reviews, but this review was the only reason I signed up for Yelp.
After hiking in Sam's point preserve, we came here to have dinner.
THere aren't many choices in PIne Bush, we were so hungry and this place looks decent so we just walked in with out taking too long to browse around.
However, i have to say, though the price is moderate, the taste is so plain and boring, the owners are not Mexican at all (probably never been to Mexico)?? The Tamale tasted so dry ( think its frozen and they just heat it up in the microwave). the Taco is is tasteless with no Lime nor cilentro in it?? I feel like i am eating Taco bell and even worse....at least Taco bell charges $1.50 for a taco?
Do not go here!! This place is NOT authentic, if you want authentic Mexican food, go to Jackson height, New York, with real Mexican chef and waitresses.
This place needs a Kitchen make over. (Maybe i should call the Show "Kitchen's nightmare" and ask Chef Ramsey to help these poor folks who can't cook nor manage the restaurant..what a shame).
Surely the service is friendly, but it doesn't justify the taste.
Sorry but real MEXICAN food do not taste like this, you can say you have Mexican staffs but they can't cook. I suggest you go try this place for youself and see why they are so good.

If you adjust your menu and put more thoughts into it, then i bet your restaurant will be a success! Wish you the best, owner!
I had noticed that PL had opened in place of where another restaurant had been but hadn't given them much thought until the other day when I decided to grab lunch there. I was immediately pleasantly surprised that when the chips and salsa were brought out, the salsa was warm. That is something I missed from my days in Texas. We had a taco salad and a burrito. Both were good and the portions were fine. About the only thing I would have liked to see was perhaps a bit more "spiciness" to the dishes, but I understand this is just the way things are here in NY and it is something I see in 99.99999% of Mexican restaurants around here.
One of the owners was in the house and I had a chance to chat with him and discovered that he is a recent transplant from Texas, which explains the salsa. We also talked about some of the regional palate differences and adjustments they made to the "spice" so  I get where they are coming from. We also talked about breakfast, which they tried but currently do not do, because an authentic breakfast burrito would be awesome!
I think PL has something a bit different to offer to the local food scene, especially if they tailor their dishes to Tex-Mex and focus a bit more on that.
I will definitely be stopping back and trying some other dishes.
Disappointed-
Looked forward to new restaurant, waited a bit to be sure they had worked kinks out. My wifwe and I had the encilada sampler. Beef very dry, bland. Chicken a little better, but only so-so. Same with cheese. Son had Burrito, he was also disappointed. We'll keep going over the mountain into Ellenville. Will keep an eye on Yelp to see if consensus improves - I'd love for them to get it together. (No beer or wine at this time.)
