I've been to Peabody's a few times. They have great specials different days of the week but I'm particularly fond of $2.00 burger Monday. Their burgers are huge so it's hard to tell how they can even afford to run a deal like that. The meat is good quality and I love adding their blue cheese to my burgers. I learned that there is a fine line between well done and burnt to a crisp, though. The last time I got a burger well done from Peabody's it was more burnt than anything. It isn't enough to keep me away for good, but I will definitely be ordering my burgers medium well from now on. The house cut fries are well seasoned and always fresh out of the fryer (and thank goodness for that, because they kept me from going hungry last time). As far as atmosphere is concerned, I think Peabody's is a great place... during the day. It's a nice relaxing place to enjoy lunch and a few games and maybe a drink or two. The evening, however, is a whole different story. I made the mistake of calling in a to go order after work at 10pm on taco tuesday, and I felt overwhelming anxiety just trying the get into the place. The front was crowded with drunk college kids smoking cigarettes while blocking every bit of sidewalk and when I finally got inside to pick up my order the music was so loud it gave me a headache. I don't know what I was expecting from a sports bar, so I suppose it was my fault not being mentally prepared for all the chaos on a Tuesday night. If you're into loud college parties, Peabody's is definitely the place for you. Oh, and that reminds me... don't bother with the tacos. Sure, a dollar for a taco seems like an awfully good deal, but it tasted too much like a cheap imitation of taco bell. Stick with the American cuisine, and you should be pleased.
Review Source:Tried this place because of a Groupon. Â Definitely the place for pool, darts, etc--typical type food that was pretty decent. Â Good mix of people. The only reason I didn't give a 4 star rating is the wait between sitting, ordering drinks, receiving drinks, ordering food, receiving food, getting check, paying check, and signing check is too long--poor waitress had umpteen tables/people to wait on and no help. Â Parking no issue.
Review Source:Peabody's is a great sports bar! It is much improved since they remodeled and it is much nicer and cleaner now that it is smoke-free. The service there is great, there is tons of room inside the bar, and the food is good, too. Some of the best wings in Tampa! Also, I'm not a big fan of Cubans, but my friends who do like Cubans say that Peabody's has pretty tasty Cubans. Good nachos, as well. I did try their chili one time and that was absolutely disgusting, so stay away from that.
They always have good food and drink specials going on, including all-you-can drink and all-you-can-eat wing nights, $2 burger nights, $5 liquor pitchers (dangerous), etc. They also have various "activity" nights, such as trivia nights on Thursdays, which is fun, and beer pong night where you can win cash prizes (which tends to draw in a younger, more college-y crowd).
Never a dull moment at Peabody's with all of their specials, cheap drinks, pool tables, arcade games (including arcade basketball and darts), lots of TVs to watch sports, and a separate mini-club to the side. What more could you ask for from a sports bar?!
I've previously been to this pool hall on a few occasions, but hadn't visited since they expanded their menu and did away with the smoking. I have to say, HUGE IMPROVEMENT. We went in a group of 14 people, and they did "okay" at accommodating a large group. We planned on dinner first, then pool, and several of us had the Groupon for $30 worth of food and an hour of pool. They couldn't quite get our originally planned group of 22 around one long table, so they had split us up around the pool table, which was kind of weird (and made me thankful everyone didn't show up). Our server, Hannah, was excellent. She worked really hard to make sure we had food and drinks at all times, and answered our questions about the menu like a pro.
The food was okay. I recommend the wings, but skip the panini's. Their drinks are pretty good, but if you're picky about your liquor, make sure to ask for what you want. I'm not usually picky, but whatever vodka they use wasn't the best.
We finished dinner around 9pm, and made our way to the front desk to get our pool tables. They had tried to hold two tables for us right behind our dinner table, but they could only hold it for so long. Luckily, the people on those tables finished up, so we were able to grab them. We were able to get 3 tables close to one another, as 12 people in our party played (two couples per table). Our waitress was able to continue to serve us, and it was a great time. We had a lot of fun.
The crowd here is interesting. There was an NFL playoff game on TV, so a lot of people were watching that, and the range of people there was college age up to late 30's/early 40's. By the time we left (10:30pm) the crowd was transitioning to a barely 21 crowd, including a party bus that pulled up out front with scantily clad girls looking like paid escorts. I was thankful I was leaving, although it would have made for great people watching. Usually these girls end up passed out by the end of the night based on past experience at this location. So time your visit wisely depending on the type of experience you plan on having.
Employees are friendly, food and drinks are okay, makes for a pretty good time. Groupon deal made it a great value!
20% off upon check in. Â That's a plus.
I counted 11 regulation tables in this places, all in good condition and seemingly well-leveled. Â The places was packed, but we had no problem getting on a table. Â The house cues were low-end Cuetec sticks, which are light years better than most house cues. Â In fact, some people might even prefer the house cues to their own!
Large place, plenty of seating, 3 bars and even a mini-club in the back. Â So you get food, pool, club and sports bar all in one place. Â Super-friendly service. Â The tables are $15 per hour (on Fridays at least), which is a bit expensive. Â All-in-all, I liked the joint. Â Wish it were closer to homsies.
Still the best pool hall in town by far. Â As far as the service issues lately, it seems there was some staff turnover, but management seems committed to getting the less experienced staff up to par. Â So, I've changed my rating since it was really just coincidental bad timing that I finally got around to writing a Yelp review for Peabody's shortly after the only few bad experiences I've ever had there over the course of the nearly twenty years it has been one of my favorite spots in Tampa.
Considering my previous comment about the menu change, I also have to mention that the food is surprisingly good for a pool hall / sports bar and the specials can make the prices more reasonable. Â Those points really jumped out at me this week because I happened to have a burger at Peabody's (on $2 burger Monday) and it was ten times better than the one I had the next night at Burger Monger. Â The kicker is that my meals at both places ended up around $13 after adding toppings, fries etc., even though I had two draft beers with my burger at Peabody's and only a fountain drink at Burger Monger! Â That says more about how overpriced Burger Monger is and that it doesn't at all live up to the hype, but the thing that says about Peabody's is that their burgers are far better than a place that specializes in burgers and they're also priced well with the Monday night special.
I originally felt hesitant to give the same five stars to a sports bar that I would give to Bern's, but the bottom line is that they're not in the same line of business so I'm not comparing one to the other ... Peabody's is excellent at what they do, regardless.
Nice sports bar. Lots of tvs (some are very small). Would recommend it for bucs fans when they are on tv but if you're going to watch another team (go Skins!) it will be hard to find your game on a bigger tv. Had the turkey wrap, it was alright but the fries were delicious! Â Lots of darts and other bar games. Oh, and I got 20% off for checking in on Yelp!
Review Source:Something like The Color of Money mixed with a low rent Animal House. The crowd skews a little young and drunk. The staff is pleasant and attractive, but the place is ultimately forgettable. Worth noting it's one of the only places in Tampa that does open mike comedy, which can be a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, time is everything to green comics. On the other, Tampa audiences are trash, and the comics had to perform with a football game going on in the background. I bet I would have loved this place if I liked pool!
Fun addendum: I first came here yeeeeears before I wrote this review. I went on a date with a girl who lived nearby, and she suggested we go here. I am pretty sure she annihilated me on the pool table. We eventually ended up back at her place and were about to practice baby-making when, I shit you not, I saw a half-concealed bottle of Valtrex on her bedside table. Â That's herpes medication, folks. She tried to explain it. "I was going to tell you!" she whined. I was already on my way out the door. So that's the story of the time I almost got herpes. I think of that whenever I think of Peabody's, and I hope that now you do too.
Herpes!
I live around the corner from P's and have been going there for years (I used to be young I swear)! Â Anyhow, it's a great college type atmosphere after 10PM (if you're still young), but on Sundays P's hosts the Jets fan club (don't judge my taste in football...yeah, I'm looking at you Dolphins fans). Â They have done a great job hosting us for 5 or 6 years now. Â We've taken over the whole Palms Lounge side for our game watches. Â It's a good place to watch games, shoot pool, and has pretty decent prices. Â Their food is actually OK too. Â They have recently become non-smoking so if that is what used to bother you, give them another try. Â Also they just launched a "new" menu (read they have the same food, but fancier presentation now). Â I had the nachos on Sunday and really enjoyed them. Â I'm not much of a wing eater, but everyone raves about them there.
Review Source:Peabody's is the shiznito bam snip snap snack attack! No cover, good drinks, plenty of pool tables, and there's a club scene in the back. And the bar/pool area is completely separate from the club/bar area so you get a choice. Never had the food, but the booze is filling enough, right? To give you a little more info, smoking is a yes, there are tables and you randomly seat yourselves but I've never ever ever gotten bad service so don't worry. And it's for college kids so if you're 40, no dice.
Review Source:Well it's a bar, and it's really awesome! I organize the Tampa Bay Barcraft events (google it!) and Peabody's was aweosme in hosting for us. They were in constant communication, helped spread the word, and gave us everything we needed to make the night great.
Beyond special events, this place seems like a great hang-out. A college bar with plenty of specials every night, pool tables, and more TV's than is almost reasonable (let's be honest though, the more TV's the better!). Love it. Also, the food is surprisingly good for what you'd expect out of a bar (their broccoli-cheese bites are ridiculously good, especially after a few drinks).
If it wasn't so far away, I'd definitely love to check it out on a regular night outside of our events.
This place has it all. Revolving drink specials, pool tables, darts, bars and FUN! This college friendly bar has a laid back atmosphere along with a more upscale side when you cross through the Palms Lounge with music and nice bars! Want the weekly scoop? Just log onto their facebook and they will keep you fully informed..like dollar pizza slices on WEDNESDAYS! Yum!
Review Source:There is much more room inside than appears from the outside. The overall atmosphere is sports bar. There are quite a few activities to get into if you are not interested in sampling the ample bar menu or drink selection. Darts, basketball and other grownup arcade-style games along with pool tables galore add options to the typical bar night.
If you like to dance, which is my reason for going out, you'll find an attached lounge and DJ (at least on Friday night) to satisfy your need to groove. There's another bar and cleaner bathrooms in the lounge. So many seats by the bar and in close proximity to the dance floor makes it tempting for guys to sit and watch girls dance. That's a little creepy.
I plan to come back Monday for $20 all-you-can-eat wings!
Go for the wings! IMHO the best in Tampa Bay that I've had so far, if you like authentic Buffalo wings. Nice and crispy! Wish they had a happy hour so the drinks don't add up so quickly but oh well. I usually have 2 at the most, so it's not a big deal. Didn't really pay attention to the crowd, just sat at the bar minding my own biz. Wish it wasn't smoking but I really prefer not to have wings to go. Every minute in the to go box they lose the crispiness that I so love.
Review Source:Edit: Yep. Still meh.
Ok specials, attractive servers, pool tables a plenty, darts & attached to a club more suited for dancing that is (sometimes) free to walk into. The food is surprisingly good, the pizza is delicious & the grilled cheese is (seriously) amazing. Â
I don't mind Peabody's, it's the crowd that I sometimes don't care for. It's North Tampa, you're bound to run into some bar flies & Dbags. Â If you are trying to play a not at all serious game of pool with friends, you will get some form of disgust from a "serious" pool player a table or 2 over. These are the same guys who bring their own stick bag, chalk & wrist guard to a bar.
Bottom line: This is basically the only decent, none frat controlled bar by USF. I've spent plenty of nights here but by no means is this a strict "college bar".
The greatest college bar in the history of the world, and any USF graduate that denies this needs their diploma revoked. Though, to be fair, this place almost kept me from graduating in the first place.
They run a different type of drink special every night of the week, and they never have a cover. The food specials are usually pretty solid as well. The bar has every type of mixed drink you can imagine, and the bartenders and wait staff are fast, knowledgeable, friendly, and often pretty hot as well. They also have specialty drinks that are really good. Â The Joey Drink (strawberry vodka, grape liqueur, Red Bull... I know it sounds lame but trust me) is awesome, and I probably spent as much on it as I did tuition some semesters.
The place is huge, has over 10 pool tables, as well as a row of a dozen or so dart boards along the far wall which are often so full you might need to challenge someone that's playing to get a chance yourself. Peabody's was famous for having you and your clothes smell like an ash tray covered in chimney dust when you left, but they finally did something about the ventilation, so it's a fraction of the problem it used to be.
Next door is The Falls, a mini-nightclub that's attached and also generally doesn't have a cover. The crowd there the last few times I went has gotten a little rougher, but it used to be a fun place to dance and drink the night away. I'm not sure how it is recently. Having a great bar with pool, darts, etc, attached to a nightclub is awesome. As you slowly become more inebriated, the better a bad idea like dancing sounds, so this place gives you the perfect balance no matter what kind of night you want to have.
Nowadays since I'm older, I only go there to watch their NFL package on Sundays, where they do $10 all the beer you can drink and have good deals on wings and burgers as well. It's a heavy football crowd of older people, and the local Jets fan club meets to watch games there. If you head over during the day, the lunch specials aren't bad either, and it's not a bad place to catch day baseball on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I can't discuss this place rationally because it had such a large affect on my life. My friends and I once decided that living within walking distance to Peabody's was too much to pass up, so we moved to Camden Live Oak next door so we could stumble back and forth. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. I met a girl there playing pool one night who was only in Tampa for the summer working on her doctorate, as she lived in San Diego. We fell hard for each other, and six months later I quit my job and moved out there to be with her. Eventually I moved back, because Peabody's relationships never last. As they shouldn't. I spent so much time there I learned how to throw a bullseye from behind the short wall that separates the dart area. That trick paid for a few bar tabs. One night my intern walks in with some friends, so I offer to buy her a drink. We walk to the bar, and she starts deeply staring at me. I ask "what...," and before I can even finish my sentence she drunkenly makeout/attacks me in front of multiple co-workers. I had to fire her the next day. But I didn't blame her... after all, she was at Peabody's.
I lived in Vegas for a while, and some friends from USF came to visit. We were at Pure in the VIP section chugging bottle service, and some famous DJ was spinning. It was everything that ideal nightlife is supposed to be. Peabodys has a text number where you can send a message, and it will appear on the monitors throughout the bar. I sent this message: "I'm with models and bottles in Vegas right now.. but I'd rather be playing darts with all of you. Peabody's rules." And I meant every word.
This place, is sort of a jack of all trades kind of place. Â This was actually the first place my parents brought me to buy me a LEGAL drink and play pool for some family bonding time. Â Since then I have came around here with good friends to enjoy Wednesdays specials. Â They have $1 Wells and Drafts as well as food special including $1 Pizza Slices. Â The pizza is actually surprisingly good for a pool hall.
There is a "lounge" next door and it for a wednesday at midnight it had a bit of people in it.
I have to admit I probably wouldn't be a fan of this place if I couldn't get liquored up and dinner for $10 (including tip). Â
Positive though, the girls that work there are pretty cute!
Peabody's has $4.99 Â all you can eat wings and $3 beer pitchers on Tuesdays so I decided to stop here with some friends for dinner. Unfortunately some of us were unaware that the place is 21+ past 9 P.M. It took some work but they let us eat outside, it would have sucked to drive home after heading to New Tampa to eat from Brandon. I started off with their Honey BBQ wings and they were flavorful and sweet. At this point I think anyone can top KFC's Honey BBQ wings, so Peabody's had satisfying wings. Inside people were playing pool and it seems to turn into a mini-club at night.
Open late on many nights until 3AM this place is a nice place to be if you're 21+ and hungry in New Tampa on Tuesdays. They have lots of promotions on other nights and even a late night menu that doesn't start until midnight. The waitress was friendly and tried to push our wings out as fast as possible. I had about three rounds of wings before I got full. I certainly got my moneys worth. Since we were outdoors most of the time I didn't really get to experience the inside, but I'll try it out some other time. The price is pretty good for some lunch when I'm on the USF campus and don't want to blow money in the Marshall Center food court.
If you don't mind a crowded, smoke-filled room, this place is a lot of fun. Â Head in and play some pool, or if you're more budget conscious, their dartboards are a great way to maximize your minutes of entertainment per dollar. Â The waitresses are very attentive -- they'll come to you wherever you happen to be hanging out, and they won't forget about you and leave you sipping the melting ice of your drink! Â Great deals on pitchers of beer and well drinks.
