Me and my boyfriend had a great time here. We came on a Friday night but just missed the $5 entrance fee by arriving around 10pm.
We loved the wings there, it was like they were homemade, we tried the original wings.
I didn't like that fact that people were allowed to smoke inside, that's a turn off for me. The bathrooms are across from each other and either has no door or the door stays open. I looked to my right first to figure out which was the female restroom and just saw men doing their business. You don't see anything revealing but just the fact that you see them at all was awkward. I didn't even try to sit on the toilet, wasn't that great in there.
I liked the older crowd which was nice, definitely willing to comeback.
Oh how I luv thee on Tuesdays...
Quite hood but quite entertaining...
Lots of women to men ratio
You can count on the hottest music tho including your neighborhood's underground
You can count on gettin twisted for pennies on a dollar
Every Tuesday you will see a packed house with ppl getting down to hits of the hood
Restrooms are ewww, so gross, seriously...
This place is not for the classy, uptight person by no means!
This could very easily go 5 stars, but it would be more about the good time I had than the actual rating of the business, so Im going to hold one back for the next time.
Thing is, this was my second visit. Â The first time I went, I waited all night to see the group Slave and I felt like they needed more attention to detail on some things, but for the most part it was a good time. Â I have weird drink tastes, so anyone who makes my drink choices pretty well is going to get at least 2 stars no matter what.
But they have really hooked up and cleaned up this place. Â I love the sports bar adapability for one thing...smart business move! I met the new owner and I think he understands the elements of a good time, it is at the perfect crossroads between the place you can come let loose with your crew and the place where you can chill with your s/o and feel just as comfortable either way. Â The hood pretty much stays outside the door with a few exceptions (but everybody needs a lil hood in their life sometime)
I didnt order any food (no room lol) so I cant vouch for the menu. Â I dont get out a whole lot to be the greatest judge, but this is as much fun as Ive had in a club here - noting that I'm not into any places that worship celebrities or drug dealers.
I really didn't like this place, It was too much going on, and just to sit it was $30.00-$40.00 per person to sit at a table. Went to go see Chrisette Michelle, The flyer said she would be out to perform at 10pm around 12:30 she still hadn't come out. I left with out seeing a performance $40.00 lost from seating, and 10.00 on some bad chicken wings. Too many cat daddies and poorly dressed people.(Bellies hanging out and scarves on heads, Silk suites worn by older men) WTDTA!!! And you are allowed to smoke inside...O_O How about I dont need the second hand smoke! Not my type of Party at all!
Review Source:So the last Saturday i met friends at the Pearl and the manager had to come and put a big bucket under a water leak that had a put a hole in the roof and this was in their main traffic flow path in front of the bar and dance floor. Â So we spend the night walking around a bucket with water leaking and no it wasn't raining outside.
So now, the Pearl Bistro has day parties on Sundays. Â Pretty chill atmosphere. Â They now have a patio which offers a breezy seat during the warm times and more free seating. Â The inside seating (except for bar) is normally reserved. Â The only downfall is the outside bar is cash only. Â They started out with free BBQ menu until 5pm and some nice drink specials ($5 margarita) and a free vodka until 5pm or it runs out. Â But that has morphed into a $5 unlimited BBQ menu and of course the liquor line is long and it runs out way before 5pm. Â The DJ is good. Â The crowd is definitely interesting and entertaining. Â The additional downfalls, It amazes me at what people's definitions of "classy" seem to be. Â The ladies in something short or tight or both with high heels (even with cottage cheese) and the guys in some classy version of thug which still entails showing their underwear. Â It's all hee-larious to me! Â I'd say go if you have nothing really better to do. Â Honestly, it used to a cool spot to go to but it seems to have turned into a joke.
If you go in expecting a classy environment for a place that advertises itself to be a mix of Taboo 2, The Blue Room, and Echelon then you deserve to be disappointed. It is also not a true hood spot, you go to Central Station for that. However, it is a good mix of hood classiness but going on the right night is important! Each time I have gone, it was during a special event; sports game or holiday and those experiences were enjoyable. They are overpriced for the quality and location. This is not to say the food is not good; it is but does not warrant the price tag. The drinks have not impressed me and the DJ leaves much to be desired. However, if you just want to chill, watch the game, have a nice meal, and see some very funny things (the crowd is so diverse its amusing) and you live in the neighborhood (key point) it is a decent place to pop into.
Review Source:Went there just last night. The evening started off good for the first 5 Min's until we were seated. Then Little Miss hot pants jump suit "Olivia" with mega weave told us that we could not sit at that table because they were reserved for 3 or more guests. She said the people who had seated us that were very nice, didn't know what they were doing. Ugh!. Subsequent to that, I noticed that "Olivia" had sat two ladies there. Perhaps she can't count, but two is NOT 3 or more. I asked her about it and she gave me attitude and lied and said there was more than 3 at the the table when she clearly told us that she could not seat us there unless the other party was with us. Get rid of her Pearl!!
The host comedian made up for her though, Carlos Miller. He was hilarious! OMG! I laughed my @#$ off. I don't remember the last comedian's name but he was "off da chain" funny. I would love to see both of them again and again and again.
Then we ordered some food. What did we do that for? We ordered the $20 sampler platter. Like another post I read, the food was piled up on the plate and so deep fried that we couldn't distinguish what was what. What can I say, I did eat it and it all basically tasted the same. Had my quota of fried foods for the next month and a half.
Our little Bartender was very nice and hospitable as was the Floor Manager. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable.
I will definitely go back for the comedy. It was great. Other than that, I could take Pearl Bistro or leave it.
I'm only being generous with the two stars because the Lemon Drop was tasty.
Atmosphere: It was "cute" on the inside. My friends and I went for the comedy show and they had some pretty good talent. Although it doesn't take much to get on my nerves, and there was one "lady" by the stage who just would NOT sit her attention-whore @$$ down and shut up so we (really I lol) could enjoy the show.
Food: Ugh. My girlfriend and I split the sampler plate, thinking it would have a nice array of appetizers (it cost $20!!!). Â EVERYTHING on the plate was DEEP FRIED and BLAND as all hell. I was really hungry though, so i chowed down on my half. However all that grease had my stomach turning a lil bit by the end of the night! On top of that, it wasn't presented in an appetizing way. The kitchen literally just piled everything onto one plate and we had a hard time distinguishing the catfish fingers from the calamari :-
Drinks: Pretty damn good! Just not $10.25 and $9.50 worth of good.... And I don't like when places automatically include gratuity. What if the heffa didn't deserve that much of a tip?!?!?!
Overall, my 2 drinks and 1/2 of an appetizer sampler was NOT worth $36.20!!! For all that I could have had a REAL meal at Cheesecake Factory or something and come out with money to spare.
If you're going on Comedy Show night, you'd be better off eating at home first or going to IHop across the parking lot.
Well look what we have here??? Have they lost a star???
Well it seems as if the Pearl has been hit in the pockets... I went there to celebrate my pre-graduation with close friends and... BEHOLD... no more unlimited free drinks... *deep sigh*
Well.. I spend $$$ everytime I go there so it didn't turn me away... I received 2 tickets to receive drinks... Knowing I wanted more... ( I was there to celebrate!) I got a free bottle of champagne... (yay... I guess) and they JACKED up the price of the crab legs to $7...
Now... these aren't huge changes but it made a HUGE difference in the crowd and atmosphere... I love it here but if the same vibe that got me there isn't around anymore I might have to find another after work spot... hhhmmm...
FINALLY! Â I wanted to go to pearl since a friend of mines goes every tue. It was all good. MUSIC, FOOD YUMMY! CROWD OF AFRICAN AMERICAN TALL DARK AND HANDSOME MEN.....just letting you know its packed with yummyness. anyways will go again. I hear it can get on the wild side, the night i went it was cool sailing.
Review Source:Shady Area, Nice Joint! I went for the free comedy show and had a blast! Its very beautiful once inside and they have beautiful waitresses! We had a blast! The comedians were funny, the appetizers were good and the alcohol was good! I say give it a try! However, I dont know what type of crowds frequent this joint on weekends cuz I went on a Thursday night! It was a nice mature crowd!
Review Source:OMG!!! This place is every urban club stereo type. And while, I was "treated" to their brunch, and you can eat the food......WHY WOULD YOU?!?!?!? You walk up to the kitchen window to order your waffle, or omelet and can see how run down, greasy, and dank it is! For $15.00, you can see a tired club, sorry buffet, and greasy kitchen!!!! But, who am I to take this opportunity away from you? Go see for your self!
Review Source:The night I went to Pearl, Young LA (rapper famous for hit song of "Aint I") was performing.
Honestly, I thought that this place was going to be a lot more classier. Â Perhaps it was the artist that was performing that brought out all the hoodlums and jersey wearers...who knows.
But as i grudgingly passed over $20 to get in to this place, I was hoping that the inside was looking better than the outside.
Not so. Â It was smoky, dirty, grimy, and looked like the place that had the potential to be nice when it wasnt stuffed with folks.
Shoulder to shoulder pretty much all night, I did find that the drinks were pretty tasty and relatively cheap.
But no consolation that the spot was still completely not what i expected.
Highlight of the night-- Young LA's performance was actually pretty good.
Too bad I wont be back to see if the club has anything else to offer.
Since we were content with staying on the Southside for the night, we decided to hit up the The Pearl. Located near Greenbriar Mall, the location might turn some folks off who aren't used to the area. I believe the valet parking is free for ladies but there is still adequate free parking located nearby.
Inside, the club/restaurant/lounge is set up nicely. I can still tell this was the former home to TGIFridays but the remodeling was nice. There were two bars, lots of seating in the middle with a makeshift dance floor in the back. There was a private area which looked like it being used for a birthday party. The crowd consisted of mostly 25 and over. The DJ played a wide range of hip-hop and R&B music but mostly spun hits from the 80s and 90s (can't blame him). Not many people were dancing so I would say this place falls more in place as a lounge.
I was annoyed at the fact of paying $20 to get in because despite looking like a cool spot, it didn't warrant that price of admission. The drinks were made decently but priced a little on the high end. The female bartender on duty was polite and served us pretty quickly. Unfortunately there weren't any drink specials available. We didn't order any food so I can't speak on that.
The bartender said that the place stayed open until 3 AM but by 1 AM, most of the people were gone, possibly due to the weather that night (or because the old folks can't hang). I liked the atmosphere of The Pearl. It's good that an decent place is available on this side of town that can cater to the slightly older Black crowd. I would probably need to go back on another night where there were more people but likely won't if the cover is $20.
I went on a Friday night for a friend's birthday, last week. Â The crowd picked up pretty quick and the music was okay. Â Of, course more women then men and a lot of couples. Â The crowd much older then I expected, and everyone was dressed pretty nice. Â The overall setting was nice and I loved the decor. Â The hostess and the the ladies behind the bar smiled for the most part and did not come off as snooty. Â The first 20 minutes after I sat down at the bar an anonymous gentleman bought me a drink and shortly after another gentleman came over and struck up a conversation with me. Â For the most part my experience was not too unpleasant and the food was good. Â From what I was told that night, on Friday nights ladies get in free and certain drinks are free for the ladies as well. Â I am going to give it another try and see if my experience will be the same.
Review Source:Friday night at Pearls turned out to be very interesting. The hostess was not the hostess with the mosts. Took about 20 minutes to be seated because I was solo. Everyone does not always have a dinner partner.
The calamari was very good fresh, hot and welled seasoned. Live band was good, but you will not have a conversation of dinner here.
Have you every heard of a Mississippi mudbug? You can have it here, fried crawfish. Pretty good.
I would give Pearls another try on a different night to see if the service is any better.
The food might have gotten better, but service still sucks.
Maybe it's a generational thing. Quality of service is quality of service. It doesn't have to do with supporting the community even with bad service, if Taboo 2 or whatever else these people own are doing well on different parts of town, then that same concept should apply here and be seen here. There aren't any excuses to be made here.
"Tell the wait staff you intend to take good care of them BEFORE they begin serving your  group's needs. "
- That implies that they're going to change their performance just for you. It's inconsiderate of others that expect decent service. I shouldn't have to beg for it.
I've worked with people in the restaurant industry. If The Pearl is taking this long to get up on their feet, then something's wrong.
Okay so my girlfriend and I had some tickets for the Comedy night at the Pearl. I was excited because I have here about it on the radio but never gone. Once I started reading the reviews I expected the worst.
Our server was GREAT she was very nice and on point. I felt a little out of place only because I had never been to Greenbriar area before. I must say I had the BBQ Shrimp and Scallops and they were excellent, my girlfriend had the Fried Chicken and it was well seasoned.
I ordered a glass of Merlot and my server told me that the half glass full she brought me was all they had and they would not charge me. It was on the bill when she gave it to me. When we told her she quickly removed it. The tip was added which took our 50 something dollar bill to $64 we gave her $70 and told her to keep the change. I was surprise the tip was added but when I thought about it then again I was not considering the area, however I was glad that we received great service and didn't mine the tip which is why we left extra.
Finally made it in this place. Â Reserved a table for my birthday. Â Food...was great and plentiful. Â Rick was our server and he was good....prompt...didnt waste time gettin our orders and drinks...let us run a tab until we were ready to leave etc.
Now the hostess...that's another story, she could truly use some lessons in tact, handling the door of a club and using proper English when tryin to hold back the crowds from said door.
The ratio of women to men on last nite was about 25:1...some people may like that, but I dont want to go to a club where the dance floor is packed with women dancing with themselves or each other, OR old azz men who didnt get their stripper fantisies taken care of in their prime.
Would I go back...probably since I could really walk here from my home, and just could sit at the bar or something, but otherwise....I think there is a better night spot for me.
Si-Man baby of 107.5 was there and got the party started, but the rule is if you get a birthday table you AND your guest have to be there by 8pm and there is no way around it. Â So by 11 I was ready to GO.
Drinks....please...fill up before you leave from home...I had 5 Patron on the Rocks...and I'm still waiting for the effect to kick in!!
Sure it could be higher if the service was more polished. Â The DJ was great it was nice, clean. Â BUT THE SERVICE SUCKED. Perhaps because it was standing room only. Â But one thing is for sure and do not mistake it the food was excellent. Â Now if they work on the service, I will promise to upgrade. Â The music was awesome too. Â It is a club, dont know where the BISTRO comes in. Â Since I did get IN, I will say everyone was dressed to impress. Â It is new and needs to survive. Â Also there was free valet for the ladies on the Friday I went. Â Im gonna try it again. Â Some beefcake in the front of the house and the woman in the window were also borderline rude. Â I looked past it because it was my friends BDAY.
Review Source:I LOVE THE PEARL! Â I have gone 4 times since it opened the last time was to see the funk group "SLAVE" and I had a BALL! Â Each time I have gone to the Pearl I have enjoyed myself as the crowd is lively and the music is great. Â If you are wanting to go out for a night of dancing this is it!
I must say that when it gets crowded service can be a challenge as far as the speed of it but the server we had was hustling to accomodate everyone and for that I was appreciative. The food is really good and the choices are surprising for it to be a night club.
One tip if you are going to see a concert GO EARLY to get a good table or you will be sitting by the door.
1, 2, 3,...NOT IT!
I came on a Friday night with relatively high hopes. Nice chocolate establishment, with an older, and what I assumed would be, calmer crowd. WRONG. It was like watching one of those National Geographic specials where the lion hasn't eaten in 10 days (the men AND women) and is on the prowl for anything he can get his hands on.
I ordered a drink and found a spot at the bar where I could watch the feast. But, only after arguing with the bitchy waitress. She wouldn't let me or my bf sit down because we had ordered drinks from the other side of the bar. We told her that we were going to order food too but, she just didn't care. Really, I didn't know that eyes could roll so far back in ones head. Hers were gone!
Anyway, after about 20 minutes of waiting she took our order, with attitude dripping off her face. We ordered red velvet cake, which was actually pretty good. We tried to order more drinks from our bartender to no avail. So, I went to the other side of the bar and was promptly served. Thank you tall, male, bartender (Sorry I don't remember your name.) He even tracked me down to give me back the proper change. When he did this, Little Miss Attitude, you know, the one with the eye problem, proceeded to yell at him and cuss him out. She also did the same thing to the manager. (My advice: fire her.)
They also charge a hefty cover for men: $20 and this is by no means a $20 spot. You don't get your money's worth.
I suggest finding a different spot or going on a different night. The other reviews seem to show that weeknights are more enjoyable.
Just because of the location, being that its in the Greenbrier mall parking lot I have to say that it was a really nice grown and sexy place if you wanted to go out with a couple of girlfriends and have a good night out.
The service was great, I love that interaction that I received from my waitress she even suggested a great drink which I order every time I go there The Black Leather Whip... nice.......
The food is awesome for a club, fav (Jamaican egg rolls) its pretty much along the same lines as taboo 2 on Roswell road. I love the design in the club the theme and the painting makes it really unique.
So you feel like dancing go check it out!
