Never really liked Pick Up Stix as you only get one entree with a regular order. Also the food is way greasier and it feels like the meat is all in smaller pieces. I'd suggest Panda over Pick Up Stix. With regards to this specific location, it's not as clean as other Pick Up Stix locations.
Review Source:Forget the food.
I am from out of town and stopped there on my way back to San Diego. There was an incident in the parking lot that had me concerned and fear for my life and the life of my family. A stranger approached me at my car; he looked like he was on drugs. He followed me into the restaurant and stood staring. After he left he went back to my car. I asked the cashier if he had ordered food. She said no, and I said he is harassing me and my family and a young gentleman from the store walked me out to my car.
Now that's service.
The people were pleasant - it has been hit or miss on the staff- the lunch people seem to be way more happy than the evening crew.
Very small eating area, but the Firework chicken is bomb (I think that is what they called it).
I would go back, but during lunch, I will order delivery for the evening cravings.
I haven't been to Stix for awhile and I thought I'd stop by for lunch. Â Big Mistake!
I used to love their House Special Chicken, but it seems to me that the recipe has been subtlety changed to the point where it bears little resemblance to the Stix of last year. Â The chicken was cooked too long and there was very little sauce with the dish.
So, too has the recipe changed for the salad dressing; just ain't the same.
The "crispy" wonton strips for the salad saw better days last week when they were set out. Â Soggy and completely bland.
It will be a long time before I go back.
Had dinner here yesterday with some friends. It's a little pricy for the quality, but there aren't a ton of options for Chinese in San Clemente. I do prefer it to Panda Express. Favorites are the Cream Cheese Wontons and the house special chicken. They do make the food to order--but that also means it takes a bit longer. You might have to wait 10 minutes.
Review Source:I made the mistake of stopping by here early on a Sunday evening on my way back from San Diego. Â I should have known when I ordered and my yellow ticket was placed in line behind 16 other orders (and yes I counted). Â After waiting exactly 23 minutes for a simple garlic chicken dish, I requested a refund. Â They really need to get their act together on busy days, such as a rainy Sunday afternoon, as most of the orders were for delivery, and as I waited a steady stream of take out customers walked in and picked up their orders before mine. Â The staff were friendly and accommodating but completely overwhelmed.
Review Source:This is for the one in San Clemente in Pico Ave. Been to one, been to all. Used to be that ethnic restaurants would be represented, at the very least, by one member of that ethnic group. Let's say a mexican place would have mexican people, an indian place indian people and so on and so on. Well, that is no longer accurate. This Pick Up Stix was 100% staffed with mexican cooks, white servers but no chinese descendent anywhere to be found. I understand their recipes are the same in all locations and so are the ingredients. I personally do not want a mexican cook serving me chinese food. Unless they were half and half, but that is rarely the case. So what we got here is a formula that seems to work for Pick Up Stix because at the time that we were there, traffic and orders made the place look busy, but I have to say it was right around dinnertime for everyone.
Wonton Soup: a total mushy (meaning vegetables were past the point of no return), a sweet broth that made me wonder why so sweet?, the wonton were a joke in that they did not have any significant amount of meat, almost flat (why don't they just throw noodles), this soup gets 2 Stars.
Kung Pao Shrimp: formula sauce, no peanuts (believe it or not, or I just got lucky), too sweet for what the dish is supposed to taste like (they are very liberal in adding sauce to their dishes, I can say that for sure). 2.5 Stars.
New Curry Shrimp: soggy vegetables, shrimp (on both shrimp dishes) medium to small size, pre cooked and therefore lacking any particular flavor worth mentioning. 2.5 Stars.
Brown Rice: nice option that supposedly makes them a cut above than Panda even though I think they as well are offering brown. Come to think of it: they all are!
Next time I go to a mexican restaurant there better be a chinese cook in there or I will complain to the management (kidding) but really, what's up with that?
Formula dishes, most impregnated with sweet because it has been proven it keeps people coming back for more. No special anything. Service was good, prices for the food received average. 2.5 Stars at the most!
Worst ever. Â Tried it 2 years ago and BASIC to go order took 30 minutes! Â Gave it another shot today, Won Ton soup is flavorless, just dirty water with vegetables and one shrimp. Â Soup and one entree took over 15 minutes! Â Service is SLOW and communication is terrible. Â San Clemente needs a real Chinese restaurant! Â I can't believe this place is still in business! Â Don't bother with this place, waste of time and money.
Review Source:Wow - after seeing these reviews, I don't feel so bad. Â I've never been to a Pick Up Stix. Â When I'm out and about, I usually look for sushi or health food of some sort. Â I have one of these places near my home and thought I would go in a jam. Â Ordered garlic shrimp with veggies and brown rice. Â They got my order wrong and made garlic chicken. Â They caught their own error, but it cost me some time. Â The food was uninspired. Â I took a few bites to hold me over and threw the rest out. Â Tough to do because it costs $8.99! Â If the other Pick Up Stix are good, I'll never know, because that's enough for me.
Review Source:I am also asking the question....
How is this train wreck of a fast food joint still in business?
Upon paying for my incredibly basic order of three appetizers, the cashier, the one that had difficulty speaking english, finally communicated my wait would be five minutes. Â For the next twenty five minutes, I observed orders were placed by walk in patrons and left with food to go. Â When I finally inquired in frustration, my order was nowhere to be accounted for. Â Nothing in the way of an apology, an explanation or any type of understanding as to why my order was taking so long while other patrons came and went.
Do yourself a favor. Â Subway is next door.
Ordered a huge to go order here once...
they got the orders right, but put everything in the bag on its side...everything got mixed up and leaked all over  (Keep in mind, these were combo plates, rice, food, salad in one Styrofoam container...)
that, amongst the bolt that was found in the salad ***YES A BOLT*** Â I have no reason to go back...I called to complain and they seemed less than interested...
to quote Rich N Nancy C that yelped about Pick up SH*TS..."why are they still in business"
Agreed, this place sucks. It's even worse than Panda and I think Panda has pretty boring food. I am guessing Pick Up Stix is supposed to be an Americanized Chinese food, but it doesn't come close! There is way too much sauce on everything, and the flavors are way off!
I got a House Special Fried Rice and it didn't taste anything like fried rice, tasted more like eggs to me. Shouldn't get any stars, but I'll give 1/2 star for the waiter who actually brought me the food Carls Jr. Style while I sat down.
