My friends and I went to WV for our second annual rafting adventure, we got there and  decided to explore the area since we had not done so in the past. So we decided to try to find a decent place for lunch, to our huge surprise, we found this AWESOME place on yelp. We had no idea this place existed and has now been deemed as a must, to be included in our traditional annual visit to WV. We are definitely fans pies and pints pizzeria!! My pizza loving boyfriend and I (plus the group of our friends) love this place!!! Best discovery ever!
Review Source:Relaxing and quiet - the pizza was thin, crisp and well cooked (not burned) giving a firm structure platform to support all the good toppings - in this case eggplant, goat cheese, dried tomatoes and pesto. Â
I would have liked the pesto to be directly on the crust, and not the last ingredient placed on tops of all the other toppings. And, a little less pesto would have suited me fine.
Aside from that, the pizza was well topped, hearty, crunchy and very tasty. Â Two days later I ate the final two slices cold in my car on the way home. The pizza still tasted awesome, minus the crust that was a little too hard for me to eat two days later.
I was amazed at all the local restaurants in Fayetteville, WV. They all were very good, local, fresh food. Â Well done Fayetteville.
Inside bar has TV. Â There is a great outside (covered) dining area and a play area for kids while they wait for dinner. Â This was great as several kids ran 20 yards away to the playground to play together, taking their noise and activity away from us.
So, inside, outside, kid friendly, but friendly to those without kids. A winning combination of options.
Was visiting the New River Gorge with family and we stumbled upon this place. Â The pizza was fantastic. Â I loved the great selection and creative pies. Â I took bites of several different pizza's and they were delicious. Â And the beer selection is first rate. Â I loved my amber ale.
Review Source:I've spent my life with family in the Fayetteville area, and while I love seeing the family, since finding out I can't eat gluten without getting ill, visiting has been somewhat of an exercise in seeing how long I can subsist on plain salad. Pies & Pints offering gluten free pizzas, albeit small, let me take my aunt out to eat for her birthday! The crust isn't the best I've ever had, and came out burned one of the three visits we made to Pies & Pints this trip, but the toppings make up for it. Prices are pretty standard for gluten free fare, plus the root beer was fantastic. Service seemed hit-or-miss, either spectacular or completely disinterested, and it is predictably loud when they're busy.
All-and-all we thought P&P was pretty pleasurable and look forward to visiting again the next time we're down that way.
Last summer, a bunch of my family met in the New River Gorge area and stayed for a week. Â We originally learned about Pies and Pints from their sister restaurant, Secret Sandwich Society, and boy were we glad we went! Â Since we were a large party, we were able to sample a number of their pizzas, which were amazing, especially the chicken gouda. Â My favorite menu item though was their amazing grilled chicken wing. Â My mouth still waters when I think about them! Â Maybe I could write and convince them to share the recipe....
Review Source:This place is AMAZING. Â I went rafting for a day and literally went to this restaurant twice! Â The service is friendly and they are very attentive. Â The Shrimp Thai Pizza was probably the best Pizza I've ever eaten in my life. Â They combined unique spices with their pizzas and made literally works of art. Â
The decor was family friendly. Â You could wear casual clothes.
This place is like Miguel's Pizza all grown up. Craft beers, Â sports on TV, huge gourmet pizzas, large salads, and lots of room for hungry climbers on a packed holiday weekend! We tried going to the Gumbos restaurant twice that weekend, and Pies and Pints saved the day both times when Gumbos closed before dark. Even when we were told we'd have a one hour wait, we still found a seat at the bar and ordered pizza there. The pizza came out FAST. The bar tender also wrapped up the leftovers in foil and so we could them for breakfast the next day. This place definitely gets 5 stars for service and 5+ stars for food.
Review Source:We went for two nights. Both nights were packed and yet the service was still top notch. The wait was long but we sat at the bar and got our food that way. They got our order wrong for a half steak, half pesto pizza and the waitress repeatedly apologized and making up for it by giving us a free small pizza with the missing toppings. On top of that, they only charged us for the 10 inch pizza!
I have also heard from other diners that they got a free round of beers because their wait was long.
So you know they care about their customers. What about the food? Well, it is good and fresh. Try the chicken gouda. It was the bomb.
Yes, it lived up to the hype. We walked in on a Saturday night without a reservation and were seated within 10 minutes. We got the small Greek salad and half order of nachos--both were HUGE. The two of us could have made a meal out of those two dishes alone. We also got a small pizza and could only eat half of it--it was 12 inches. The most amazing part for us DC-ites was the price. Our appetizers were $7 each, and the gourmet pizza with steak, mushrooms, gorgonzola, and carmelized onions, was a mere $14, bringing the total bill to less than $30 for a fresh, delicious, gourmet pizza meal. Back in DC, we'd have paid $22 for the pizza alone! Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.
Review Source:Incredible! My Coworker and I were in Beckley on business and some people recommended we go to Pies and Pints. We drove 25 minutes to get there ad it was well worth it. The only thing better than the delicious food and brews was the service. I worked in restaurants for years and solid customer service is always appreciated. Scott, the manager, recommended different menu items and went above and beyond in ensuring that we were having a good time and enjoying ourselves. The pizza is so unique and tastes incredible. The wings are some of the best I've ever had. This place is where it's at if you're looking for great food and happy, welcoming service.
Review Source:I used to live in Atlantic City,NJ Â and I worked for a man from Naples..
I thought I Â knew what good pizza was! Â Until I Â tasted Pies and Pints!!! Â I've tasted most of your pies now and have never been let down...... you pizza is by far the very best I have ever eaten! Â Just wanted to let you know! Â Thanks :-)
Our group of six or so stopped by while we we in town for a rafting trip. One of our number had heard rumors of amazing pizza, so we decided to spend our first night in the area hunting down this epic pizza place, and we were all so thrilled we did. The place was large and bustling, although we only had to wait about five minutes on a packed Friday night. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and the vibe was great. Between our group we ordered a cheese pie, the pesto pie and the chicken gouda pie.
I don't remember what it was called, but they have some incredible house made goat cheese dressing that our waiter recommended as dipping sauce instead of ranch that was to DIE for. I still have dreams about that dressing.
We were camping nearby and were sad we had no real way to store leftovers, but we shouldn't have worried, there were no leftovers to be taken home anyway. Dinner was fast and filling and should we ever come back to the area, this will be at the top of my list again!
Owney's BottomLine: An INCREDIBLE place that you go out of your way to get to. Go half and half on your pizza pies so you can try more types of pizza. And dont look passed the salads, which were phenomenal!
I went there with 3 other friends, ordering 1 pitcher of beer, 1 salad and one pizza (1/2 Chicken Chipotle and 1/2 Pesto), and 1 dessert, and it was more than enough and only cost $53!!
Both the Chicken Chipotle and Pesto were fantastic, but I would love to try even more. Pizza is thin crust, cheesy and amazingly fresh. The pizza didnt sit heavy like other oil rich pies. It got me full and made me really enjoy a great pizza with some good beer.
We also ordered the Spinach Salad, which completely surprised me. It fed 4 of us and featured onions, blue cheese, vinaigrette and LOTS of sunflower seeds (my favorite). Â I didnt really want a salad but I am SO glad we got it and I think you should too.
We waited for 30 mins at the bar and had a beer and talked to a few of the locals, which is always fun. They actually came to eat dinner and ordered two pizzas to go. You may want to do the same.
I highly recommend you plan on coming here after you shower up from a long day of rafting like we did.
If it wasn't for the Chicken Gouda pizza (BEST EVER!), this place would get 2 stars.
The server was absolutely awful. She greeted the table by saying she is not having a good night and she is ready to get out of there. She then had a lot of unnecessary, rude sarcasm and jokes. She didn't want to actually refill our table, so she simply put a water pitcher in the middle. She was very short tempered and would snap if anyone re-asked her something. I believe Samantha was the name. I honestly have never received such horrible service in my life.I can't base it on one experience though, because there seemed to be better servers out there. I would try this place again, but another bad experience with service would be a deal-breaker for this place.
Also, the steak and mushroom pizza isn't that good. Maybe that is because I had it after the chicken gouda, which is a million times better :)
Don't believe the other revi...oh wait everyone thinks the same way on this one! Â It's quite true! Â Pies and Pints is everything delicious and nothing to complain about.
We stopped in after climbing at NRG. Â We heard about this place "Pies and Pints" on Twitter from climber friends and quote, "You HAVE to stop!"
We started off with a beer (great selection) and a small antipasto. Â It was only 2 of us but I always question restaurant's portions. Â When they say "Feeds 2" it actually means it "Feeds 2 kids". Â The waitress reassured us that the salad is definitely enough for 2. Â She wasn't lying, the plate was plenty big for both of us and filled with everything that you would want in a antipasto, meaning least amount of spinach and a hell of a lot of meat, peppers, onion, and olives.
We then ordered our most prized pie, a large 1/2 Cuban Pie & 1/2 Chicken Gouda. Â We figured that since we were at a specialty pizza establishment that we were going to stay away from the typical. Â I'm glad we did, because those two pies were mouthwatering good. Â You know that feeling when you're full but you want to keep eating whatever is in front of you because it has so much taste? Â Yeah that happened last night...
Bottom line, Pies and Pints has phenomenal specialty pizzas and great beer! Â Who would think a place called Pies and Pints would have those things?
Straight up the bomb. It's the perfect combination of something the locals and the river rat hippies can both enjoy, which is why it has endured and become such a success. I love the ability to get an artisan, custom pizza for a decent price. The service and atmosphere were great as well. I really felt like a pizza artist! The roasted garlic made it soooo delicious.
Review Source:As I sat down for my most recent meal at Pies and Pints my buddy turned to me and "what was that one thing we had here that wasn't as good?". That's right after many many many meals we once at one thing that wasn't quite as good as  the outstanding menu. Try the spinach salad. This is not any pizza place's basic salad. The sliced grapes and generous Gorgonzola sprinkling is amazing. Not to mention I think they house make all their salad dressing. Try any of the local beers on draft- but if you aren't a beer person they have root beer on draft for only $6 for a pitcher. Drink up. If you are in Fayetteville you must eat here. Try the black bean pie, the cuban, anything on special -or anything really. This place rocks.
Review Source:Top 10 pizza in the US + cheap beer = winning!
Honestly, they should franchise this place. What a hidden gem in WV! The pizza selection here is nothing but amazing, fresh ingredients make each pie taste STUPID GOOD.
My four recommendations are as follows:
1. Get the local draft beer, it's delicious.
2. Order a mushroom garlic white pizza; trust me, you wont regret it.
3. If you can and the weather is agreeable, sit on their awesome outdoor patio.
4. Make sure your schedule afterwards has room for relaxation or a nap, you will eat so much because it's SO DANG GOOD.
*Be prepared for a wait as there is limited seating. This is a good thing, as you can hang out at the bar and watch a sports game :)
Awesome pizza. Â Great crust, not too thin with the right crispiness to it. Â They let you do 1/2 & 1/2 on larges, which is always a plus since they have a lot of options. Â
I highly, highly recommend the shrimp curry pizza & Cuban pork pizza. Â Weird? Â Maybe. Â Delicious? Â Absolutely. Â
They also have a decent beer selection, so you're not going to go thirsty here.
Skip the chips & salsa; not impressed. Â
Finally, make sure to make reservations ahead of time; otherwise you're going to wait at least an hour on weekends. Â It's worth it.
We were in the area for a Boy Scout event, this is going to happen a lot over the next few years, and dropped in for lunch. Â Pizza was fantastic! Â Service was perfect and we had a great time!
We had 1/2 Chicken Gouda and 1/2 Steak and Mushroom. Â Might just have been the best pizza I've ever had!
WOW!
I honestly don't know how I could improve on a pizza as good as the ones that they have here. Simply amazing tastes, with some of the greatest crusts I have ever tasted.
We had a large group eat here, and because of that, we had the chance to try several pizzas. My favorite ended up being the Cuban Pork, which at first glance seems like some leftovers that somebody couldn't figure out what to do with. However when you first bite into the pie and get a good crust, with the flavors, you have to pinch yourself to make sure that you didn't fall asleep.
The staff did a great job to make sure that we were helped, and I don't believe that a single cup went empty at any time during the meal.
The only drawback.... This restaurant is about 4 hours away from my house, and as good as the pizza was, I can't bring myself to drive that far for another slice!
Try this place out!
New York-style pizza? Check.
Chicago-style deep dish? Check.
Handcrafted West Virginia pie? Might just be the next best thing.
First Impression: We were greeted with a busy dinner service, a packed lobby waiting to get in and an infectious smell that defined heaven. Right at that very moment, we knew it was going to be a delicious night. Our initial thoughts of having to wait an eternity to be seated were proven wrong. The service was fast - amazingly fast. We were seated within five minutes of wait time by the host who was polite and all smiles. With a casual dress code, the ambiance was family friendly and unpretentious.
Food: For starters, a sample of Fayetteville's very own Bridge Brew Works' Lager and Pale Ale. While we thought  that the Lager fell short of our standards, the Pale Ale knocked our socks off. Brewed just in time for the hot summer months ahead, it was overall a well-balanced American pale ale. With hints of citrus and a great hoppy nose, the upfront bitterness concludes somewhat sweet and wheat-like - a perfect combo to a hot summer day or an order of the Pork & Pepper Nachos that was out-of-this-world delicious. A crispy bed of multi-colored nachos smothered and piled high with marinated pulled pork, seasoned black beans, jalapenos, cheddar cheese, salsa, scallions & chipotle crema? What's not to love? Not soggy. Just fresh and simply to die for!
The appetizer serving was enough for a group of four hearty eaters, so we decided to pace ourselves and move on to the next course, the most important part of our visit --- the Pies. With their appetizing spread of handcrafted flatbreads, it was really hard to choose. From the classic pepperoni and sausage to their pesto to the Thai-inspired pie, our server Kate informed us that a half and half order may be prepared upon request. It  made life a lot easier. The pick: 1/2 Mozzarella Caprese and 1/2 Cuban Pork.
The crust was fluffy and chewy inside but with just the right texture and crisp on the outside. The roasted garlic-infused olive oil was evident, but was not overpowering. The toppings were fresh and divine. The Mozzarella Caprese Pie was generously sprinkled with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil & a balsamic reduction that's fragrant and simply exquisite. The Cuban Pork Pie featured the most tender, savory, porky goodness on any pizza dough this side of the Appalachia. We mean business when it comes to our pork almost Anthony Bourdain-like. Pies & Pints most definitely honored and cooked their pork to perfection.
In addition to the Pale Ale, we also paired the pies with Ayinger Bräu-Weisse, a German hefeweizen with a 5.10% ABV. The yeasty taste that most hefes possess balanced well with the pies. The hints of citrus, banana, and clove washed our palates fresh after every bite and left us craving for more. We loved it so much that we couldn't help but let everyone we know taste these delectable and gratifying creations. We got half and half of the Eggplant & Red Pepper with the Mushroom Garlic and a large of the Cuban Pork Pie to go. Yes, it was that serious.
The Service: Exceptional. Fayetteville location assistant manager Stacey stopped by our table to personally welcome us and check in on our food. We even got tweet follow-ups from owner Kim, who made sure our visit was a pleasant one. From start to finish, we were treated with superb customer service. A rare occurrence in most places nowadays.
The Verdict: Pies and Pints Pizzeria serves the best gourmet pizza and an impressive collection of craft brews in two locations: Fayetteville, West Virginia and Charleston, West Virginia. Owners Kim Shingledecker and David Bailey have done an amazing job in maintaining both locations at the top of their class. We encourage all of you to pay them a visit and pamper yourselves to a great dining experience with family, friends, and/or that special someone.
Also, be on the look out for the September issue of Food Network Magazine as they crown the best slices in each state. The Grape Pie from Pies & Pints has been named the best in West Virginia. With that, we must holler 'Get Some!'
I've been visiting Fayetteville annually since 2008 and finally visited the place just this week. Can't believe it took me so long! The food is sophisticated yet accessible and just downright tasty. I'm a Chicago girl with a high expectation of pizza, and this stacked up. The chipotle chicken pie is incredible. Skip the salad and just eat more pizza!
(Oh, and the prices were right, too.)
We were on a family vacation and a local said we must try Pies and Pints. Â As a jaded pizza guy from New Haven Connecticut, I've heard this so many times and have always come away underwhelmed. Â This place delivered.
The traditional stuff, we got it for the kids, was first rate. Â The signature pies were off the scale. Â We had the pie with Gorgonzola, grapes and rosemary that was amazing. Â The selection of beers was great as well. Â I wish these folks well. Â Highly recommended.
Was in the area on Labor Day weekend for some kayaking. Our guide recommended this place for dinner after we mentioned we were thinking about going to Pizza Hut out of desperation for comfort food. Luckily we followed his advice.
There were at least 15 people waiting outside so we were faring the worst when we walked in. Luckily there were 3 seats open at the bar and we were able to sit right down and order drinks and food.
The menu is eclectic and there are plenty of pizza combos you've never seen before, several of which are vegetarian. I went for a typical pesto/roma tomato/feta cheese combo, and it was awesome.
Excellent microbrew beer selection to, and cool bartenders.
Small pizzas are $9-10 and are generally good for one person. I was starving from being on the river all day and ordered a medium and barely finished it on my own. Approx. $15.
Kid friendly and good food!
Cool decoration, great service and yummy pizza. You can sit outside and enjoy nature while kids play in a fun playground. The choices for pizza on the menu are very creative and include fresh ingredients. I certainly enjoyed it and would go back if I was in the area again.
Best Pizza I have had in US.
I visited this place in March 2009 when I went to Monogahela Forest, WV for camping and then rafting on way back to NC. Â This place was suggested by a local, our white water rafting guide at Ace Adventure.
Amazing place, wooden furnished floors. Â We quickly got a table for our group of 10. Â The waiters were very nice.
The dinner was lots of pizza and a couple of beers. Â
First impression of all different pizzas we ordered: Beautiful! Â I know, before this, I had never associated this adjective to pizza!! Â But not only were they nicely presented, but also tasted all the better.
The vegetarians among the group (that includes me) had Spinach-Garlic and Eggplant-Roasted Red Peppers pizzas. Â Even though I don't eat chicken, the chicken toppings pizzas looked delicious too.
I'll make sure I take of pic of these pizzas next time I go there, which I surely will. Â If you are visiting Fayetteville, WV for rafting, don't forget to drop by this place.
Pies & Pints will be the start of a yearly tradition. Â My friend introduced me to this place the night before our Gauley rafting trip. For a little place in Fayetteville, WV, these guys really know what they're doing. It's usually packed with adventure seekers and locals...we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table. It also was Gauley Fest Weekend, so that probably explains the longish wait.
The pizza is phenomenal...I ordered the mushroom, garlic, onion, and feta  pizza. One friend ordered a pizza with eggplant and roasted red peppers, the other friend ordered a pizza with pesto and fresh mozzarella.
If you are with a group, I would suggest each person order a different pie and then sampling each.
