Playing hooky from work and dont want to drive far from elk grove for activities, then this place is a great spot to go in the morning! Shoe rentals are $2 and $2 per game M-F. Got some extra quarters for pool and you're set. The arcade was so-so cause some games were broken. Customer service was okay.
Review Source:The real value in Strikes is bowling at late night or early morning. They deals are really good, and the night bowling is dirt cheap. And a plus is that it's usually glow bowling, which is always fun.
Although be warned, they usually ID you at the door when it's after 10pm or so. The arcade is alright, it used to be better when the all games weren't suspiciously out of order..
But it's pretty much your only option to bowl in Elk Grove, but it's not the worst but it's your best by default.
I'm a terrible bowler, but I always have fun here.
Although this place is super far from Natomas, this is my favorite place that I've been bowling at. It's big, clean, fun, and up to date. Some of the places that are more convenient for me are extremely outdated or very ghetto.
The pricing is pretty good if you go at the right time. Even better if you find a Groupon/Living Social!
So if you're looking for a safe, clean, family friendly place to go bowling with no fear of getting robbed at night, this is the place!
Was here last night to celebrate my birthday , we paid for 18 games bowl 12 games and at 11:25pm the worker behind the counter said on the microphone they are closing in 5 minutes. Â So at 11:30pm they shut off all the lanes which was weird because they are suppose to close at midnight. Â WHen our group went up to the counter to ask for a refund the worker turned hostile towards us.. they said if we don't leave they will call the police.. we bowl here every wednesday night and one of the employees dared to say they have been closing at 11:30pm for the past 3 months!! Â What a load of bs.. if you don't want to work late don't take the night shift!! Â We will never be back here again.. would rather drive out to freeport and bowl at amf.. thanks for ruining my birthday with your badly managed workers that want to get off of work early!
Review Source:Although I don't like bowling that much (mostly cause I'm terrible at it), this place is pretty cool. Â Right when you walk in, you're greeted by a bouncer who asks for your ID, especially when it's at night. Right when you walk in, you see curtains and a "21 and up only" sign above it. Inside there are a bunch of seats and musical performances. Definitely check it out if you're of age. Then there's the arcade. Being a grown man, right when I saw the arcade, my eyes just lit. My friend and I were literally the loudest ppl in that arcade, louder than the children.
The bowling was alright. The fun starts at 10PM, so dont waste your money bowling before that. By 10, the lights turn off and it's like a fucking rave in the building. They blast on some club music and you can just dance while you bowl. Love it. Although it's dark, I would prefer it.
Service sucks, but then again if I was working there, I'd hate my job too. So I understand. Very short review, but it's pretty cool. My advice, go at night.
Strikes is not just a bowling alley. They have so many things there. Bar, café. arcade. I went there today for my nephews birthday celebration. I am not so much of a bowler. I am sports disinclined. He had so much fun though. Infact, he ha being there before and he asked his mom if he could go bowling for his bd celebration. He is just 6 years old and he loves bowling. It is nice to experience things from a kids point of view. After 9pm, there is glow bowling. They turn down the lights and if you have white on, you will glow. Yay for simple pleasures. My nephew loved seeing all the colors in the dark. The only complaint I had, is that the seats are nailed to the floor and it is not very comfortable. Ofcourse, the food could be better but what do you expect from a bowling alley? Overall, had a very positive experience tonight.
Review Source:You never know what you're walking into when entering a bowling alley. Pins and Strikes bucks the typical bowling alley stereotype. Great place! Had a friend in the area for business and was looking for somewhere fun to take him on a Monday night. After a call to make sure there was lanes available, we booked a reservatoon. Pins and Strikes is clean, fun, and well kept. The staff was very attentive and responded to my groups requests promptly. Multiple rooms with lots of lanes. Â We were assigned a lane in a separate room that made as feel like VIP. Plush couches and "glow bowl" style lighting. Would recommend and will go back... Even though I'm a terrible bowler.
Review Source:For as long as I have been going to Elk Grove on occasion to "get away," this place was never on my list to visit. I guess it was just another bowling alley in the middle of Suburbia. However, I was wrong to judge. This place is happenin'. They got the cool game room complete with air hockey, my absolute fave! It's great for people of all ages, especially when there's nothing to do out there except to eat, shop and workout. Wait, there's nothing wrong with that, I do that on a weekly basis! When we went bowling here last week, the lights went out, everything went to black light and the music was straight blaring. It was cool, except it was family night and we had little kids and my infant, so it was too loud for them.
The atmosphere is fun, loud and exciting. Ooh, I just described myself.
Bowling is always a fun time, especially with a 5 and a 7 year old running amok.
Strikes provides a plenty of space for a good time bowling. They have 40-plus lanes, a good snack bar, a fully stocked bar (for the "grown ups"), a pro shop and an extremely large arcade. The staff is friendly and quick with service.
Saturday and Sunday mornings are the best time for a deal as games and shoes are $1.50 from 9 to 11 a.m. However, that's the also it's busiest time, and the reason for the 3 star review (should really be 3.5, but no halvsies on Yelp).
The problem with Strikes is that while they have a ton of lanes, they don't have them all open at the busiest time of the week. They constantly have between 8-10 lanes dark while people/parties/groups are waiting. Also, they don't make the best use of the lanes they have open, constantly squeezing groups into one lane while they give single lanes to individual bowlers (usually creepy older guys who think they are Big Ern McCracken), why not make them group up on one lane like a golf course would do with single golfers? It would open up several lanes for the larger groups of kids. And I would have no problem waiting if more than 60% of the rather larger arcade weren't out of order and the other 40% ridiculously expensive (is the Terminator: Salvation game, really still worth $1 a game 5 years after the movie came out???). It seems that the arcade could use either a repairman or a drop in prices of the games that DO work.
They have changed owners and slightly the name...Same issues. Bad food, bad service, incompetent management. They hose up party bookings, dont clean party rooms, dont deliver anything that promised. They serve drinks in the restaurant in red solo cups because they wont pay enough staff to keep glasses clean. The real issue is they claim they have a sports bar but it isnt. it's a dangerous trashy hip hop nightclub on weekends that attracts gang bangers and drug violence. there have been multiple assaults, shootings and stabbings at this place over the years no matter who owns it. I visited to watch a game on the big projection screens during march madness and the SPORTS BAR had the screens blocked with light rigging and gear for that nights hip hop concert. Pathetic.
Enter after dark at you and your family's own risk.
very big, and clean place. rates are very good. Best time to go is weekdays between 9;30am-5 because it's $2 a game and $2 rental. :D that is good, so if you have date it's only $8 for a game. so it's cheap, and not spending too much money on a date. when me and my bf first went out, went to strikes for a date, and than ate at mcds afterwards cuz food at strikes, is pricey. lol. Plus it has an arcade. Great place to go on a date. :)
Review Source:Strikes, Strikes, Strikes . . . UGH!! OK so if I did not have kids, I probably would never step foot in Strikes LOL, and would only hit up Coaches (sports bar connected to Strikes). Â But since I do and they love the place we go on occasion. Â
Here is my number one complaint as a parent; We are in a society that does not carry cash, namely me, and it is absolutely nuts to make me swipe my card in the same establishment 3X!!!! Â Stand in line to pay for bowling and shoes- SWIPE, Stand in line for pizza and snacks-SWIPE, Stand in line for Adult beverages-SWIPE!!!! My goodness!! And heaven forbid we need to add an additional game on SWIPE #4!!! Â
After numerous swipes, we finally are settled into our lane and what happens next, the bowling ball is stuck . . .Back to the bar for another Adult beverage!
Alright I'm done complaining. Â Strikes is a very large bowling alley, with lots of lanes but is always busy. Â Prepare for the wait and the lines. Â I guess the best time to go is early morning but the funnier times for my kids is the evenings, because they run into classmates and friends. Â Strikes can be a bit pricey but I usually can find a coupon to get a free game or free shoes, etc. Â They have had some troubles over the years after 10 pm, so we tend to stick to the evening crowds. Â
Yes we will be back, will I get cash in advance. . probably not . . I like to complain :)
This is a big place. Unfortunately, only about half the space is dedicated to bowling. If that. My wife, 2 kids and I showed up on a Sunday morning at 11:30 am to bowl. All lanes were booked and there was a 45 minute wait time. They had a section of lanes in the back that weren't being used but we could rent by the hour for some ridiculous price.
This is when I looked around at this place a realized they had very few lanes for a bowling alley. A good chunk of floor space is dedicated to other things including a large arcade? Is this place a bowling alley or an arcade? Well the answer is neither because we went to the arcade when we couldn't get a lane. I purchased $10 worth of tokens for my two little kids and we figured we would have some fun here since we couldn't bowl. Alas, it was not to be. The first ride/game we stuck our tokens into ate them and did nothing...broken. I went to another one and it was broken. I started looking around and half the machines in the place had "Out of Service" signs on them. Of the remaining games or rides in the place that were supposedly working, about 10% were broken but had no signs on them. I finally got fed up with machines eating my tokens and found the manager and got a refund. I told him how disappointed I was in this place and the condition. The look on his face told me he either heard this before or didn't care. I'm sure it was both.
Strikes is a big strikeout. Whoever designed this place screwed up big time. Not enough bowling lanes for a so called bowling alley and lots of useless open floor space that doesn't generate income. For being a fairly new place, Strikes is rundown and would be more at home in South Sacramento rather then Elk Grove. I won't be back.
This is a nice spot to bowl if you don't want to take a longer drive than you have to. Â I love the glow bowl the have during weekends where they also have a DJ to spin the rap music for the kids to sag their pants and jump around to. Â They have a wonderful staff working the bar, huge Samoan bouncers, and somewhat of a nice arcade. Â But I wonder.. are they ever going to fix some of the games?
Review Source:Compared to Country Club, Strikes is a lot nicer. It looks pretty big, but it's about the same, the layout is just different. The arcade is big, too bad when I was there everything was out of service. Good news is, we played the key game and won a tablet--bad news was the tablet was a knock off that doesn't even contain the real Android. Hella burnt. They have a bar in the center and a food service in which seems pretty big. Then you got the girls who are willing to freak dance anywhere anytime trying to make Strikes into a club scene.
As far as it goes, Strikes isn't really all that. And it's not exactly worth the money. I'd still go to CC Lanes just because they're cheaper, and it's much more family friendly.
Bowling. Â A minute to learn. 3 lifetimes to master.
I will conquer you someday.
Until then, i will work on my excuses..
This place is a mecca for those who pursue excellence in the bowling arts.
I salute you bowlers.
Your committment to excellence is a boon to us all.
Please return your shoes when you are finished.
I came here to meet up with my coworkers to have some bonding time which is hard for us because we always work. Time was set for nine but because of everybody's work schedules and where they lived, they didn't arrive until later.
We tried our best to complete the games as fast as we could before the place closed which was midnight and we had about six lanes to play on.
We heard the last call on the intercom and continued to play and then i looked over to another lane and while my coworker was about to roll her ball, the security guard tried to kick the ball out of her hands.
Seriously? I wished he kicked that bowling ball because that would've hurt him more than it would've hurt us.
The other thing was, when i was walking out the door, i checked my phone and it said 1150PM. i wont be back and none of my friends should either but to the looks of it, a lot of my friends have already written bad reviews on this place.
The pro, the bartender was nice.
I swear everyone is on ecstacy that goes to this spot at night, and especially on weekend nights. Â It's like dance fever up in this joint. Â I literally saw some guy travel dancing about 20 feet from his small table by the bars to the bowling lanes. Â You look around the place and people will catch the Holy Ghost randomly. Â It was hilarious... but very, very strange.
It's more of a club than it is a bowling alley, and if you like clubbin with toddlers and old folks, plus everything in between... this is the spot for you! Â Bring your high heels giiiirl cause apparently thats what people wear to bowling alleys these days.
As far as the lanes go they are pretty slick, so for someone that likes to hook the ball this will probably be a challenge. Â Finding the right weighted bowling ball might have been even more challenging. Â I usually never have a problem with this when I go to other bowling alleys but this one, I only found one 10 lb. ball and the holes way too huge for my fingers.
I've been here for a couple birthday parties and they reserved several lanes. Â The price was steep. Â I paid $25 one time and $20 the other time, for only two games (including shoe rentals). Â Mucho points off for this.
However, they do gets points for having a full bar and a live "DJ" (whatever that means nowadays). Â They announce drink specials throughout the night and even have raffles for prizes. Â It is connected to a bar for the grown and sexy, but they have a cover charge. Â I have been there before though and the live music was awesome.
Overall, I have a like/hate relationship with this place. Â I'll go here for some good laughs, but it's a little too much for me most of the time.
A good place for a group of young adults in the evening. Â They have a seperate area you can rent out to bowl and party. Â They have glow bowling in the evening. Â They have a bar and music. Â It is not a regulation bowling alley so official tournaments cannot be held here. Â It probably is not a place for kids in the late hours. Â Overall it is a fun atmosphere. Â
During the day it is great for kids birthday parties. Â They have games, bowling and party rooms. Â They food is just okay.
Bowling Alley, Arcade, Bar, Sofas instead of uncomfortable chairs, they have it all! Â Bowling is fun again at Strikes. Â I take my niece and nephew here when I'm in town and they always have a good time. Â The really light bowling balls are kept behind the front desk so be sure to ask when you get your shoes. Â
The arcade blows. Â Just about every other machine ate our money and gave us no game time in return. Â Service your machines Strikes!
Strikes! This place is actually a really nice place. I've been here a couple times but the last couples time were on a weekend night. They check your at the door. I think they are checking if you're at least 18 because of the curfew thing (I think). then there a line on the right that you would go to if you want to drink. They check your ID again, scan it on the computer and then you get a "21" stamp. All the times I've been there, they always have a DJ or really load music on. They always have light dim and black light shining.
It probably the biggest bowling alley in the greater Sacramento area. They have about 60 lanes. About half the lanes is on one side while the other half on the other side but about 10 or so lanes of the second half is sectioned off and turned into a VIP section. In the VIP section, they have sofas and coffee tables. It's actually really nice. They made it where it feels like your at home with a bowling alley. The others had tables with seat for you to lounge around as well but it not a luxury as the VIP area.
They have a huge arcade area. It has lots of games with ticket prices. They have a whole section right in the front. It pretty nice. It something else to do after your done with your bowling games. Again biggest arcade i have ever seen in a bowling alley in the greater Sacramento area.
They also have an area to shoot pool. Its in a completely different room; bright lights too. It not that big and I believe it self run meaning you put coins in it for the balls to comes out once you shoot it in the pockets it is not coming back out.
This place have a full bar! They have types of drinks and a lot of beer on tap. It a good place to party and the prices are not too bad. Only problem is if you are not going here to party. It's starting get a little..... ghe.... well you know (no offense) but people would drink and start stuff with other people... uhh not cool.
They also have a food area which I never had. They also have a restaurant inside too. Looks fancy.
This place is really nice!! but it is super expensive. Â Last time I went here (March 2012) it cost $60 bucks for one lane/hr. That included shoe rentals. I played with 4 other people. I only got to play 1 and half games. =[ other then that its not too bad of a place.
My philosophy is that you should not eat at a bowling alley. Â It's like eating at a gym. Â Everyone is rating everything NON-BOWLING here. Â I will rate the lane and pins. Â If you want to drink, eat, talk with friends, loiter, watch TV, get drunk, go elsewhere. Â Let the real bowlers bowl in peace.
The lanes here are modern and nice. Â In the morning, the lanes are well oiled. Â The pins have a good sound and pin action. Â The computer's scoring system is ok (doesn't lag). Â Ball return is decent. Â Blowers blow hard.
Get rid of the sports bar, arcade, food court, waitresses, and themed nights, and you'll have yourself a nice bowling alley that will be profitable.
Finally, a bowling alley in Elk Grove!
This place is huge and A LOT more sanitary compared to other bowling alleys in the Sacramento area. It's a close and convenient drive for residents within the South Sacramento/Elk Grove area. This place is definitely a fun and affordable place to bring your date to. It is only $4 a person/game, at least for a Monday night. They have a huge arcade area. There is plenty of parking out front; not sure how packed it can get over the weekends. Â I came here with my hubby and we had a blast! Definitely will come back here for another date night! :)
Stay away from Strikes. Their customer service is abominable and they are dishonest. Our experience was AWFUL, and we later learned that they fraudulently charged us twice and it then took DAYS to fix it. The attitudes of the staff and management are inexcusable. I will cheer the day that I see their "going out of business" flag flying high. And I'll bet it won't be long.
Monday at 12:46p: We bought 2 games, rental shoes and a large pizza. We're told it would be 30 min wait for the lane... fine. I asked if the food order would go in immediately and he said it would "go in right away". He said that they'd deliver it to our lane when it was ready. Great!
Then he asked "what kind of pizza again?" So I repeated it. He sent us to the cafe counter to order drinks but when we got there, the counter guy said they were changing shifts but would be done "real quick". A female staffer came along and told us to "come back in 5 minutes". I was next so I said "I'll wait here; I don't want to get out of line". So we waited, but it took 10+ minutes for her to count all of the money; this took place right on the counter--unsafe and unprofessional. Why don't they have a second drawer ready to go like every other business?
As we waited, there were little signs all over saying they were out of chips, candy, etc. Another customer came up for ketchup for her fries. They told her they were out of ketchup. She then asked if she could get ranch instead, but was told "I'll have to charge you for ranch". The customer was NOT happy and asked why SHE should pay more when THEY were out of ketchup. The counter girl said "if I give free ranch out, then I have to give it to everybody". Ridiculous! How would anybody know she got free ranch? Â
7 or 8 people now waited behind us. FINALLY she finished counting and I ordered our drinks - $5.58 on my card. I asked her if they had cups and ice (they were out of everything else). She said that they did. But when she handed us the drinks, guess what? They were out of lids!
I was NOT happy about drinks sloshing around in lidless cups. We went directly to the manager to report the horrible service. The manager did NOTHING more than make lame excuses. Now I see that the poor attitudes come from the top down. Inept management + complete disregard for customer care = total failure.
Our lane was now ready so we went for our shoes, but there was a long line of people waiting there. Luckily most of them left after they were told that it was a 45 min wait. The counter guy gave us our shoes, and then hands us a slip and tells us that we now need to take our pizza order to the cafe (same guy who 30 minutes earlier told us our pizza order would go in "right away"). Are you kidding me? Our pizza order didn't go in like he said it would! We now get in the café line AGAIN to turn in the order. How brilliant to have 1 worker at the counter by the way. When our turn came, we were asked a 3rd time what kind of pizza we wanted. Is this a friggin joke???
We finally begin to bowl. We play most of the first game and notice that it is now 1:47 and it's been over an hour since we bought our pizza, yet nothing has been delivered.
So now, while in the middle of our TIMED game, I have to walk to the café to check on the pizza. I bring our cups for our ONE allowable refill (how generous). But the line is still very long and I have to wait for 10 more minutes there. As I wait, I see two pizzas on the back counter the entire time (getting cold). When it's my turn, I first ask the counter girl to check if the pizza that was sitting there was ours. Nope. So she starts to refill our drinks when a 3rd pizza is ready--that pizza IS ours. The counter girl grabs the pizza and tries to hand it to me (while I'm holding 3 full drinks without lids!). I remind her that they said they'd bring it to the lane and she replies "Well I'm the only one here, so we can't bring it to your lane". While I don't mind getting it myself, I'm in the middle of a TIMED game and have spent most of the hour waiting in lines. Totally unacceptable!
Later when we leave Strikes, I go home to do some online banking. What do I find? Â The counter girl charged my account TWICE for the drinks. So I have 2 charges, each for $5.58 on my account. I call Strikes for the manager, am placed on hold and then mysteriously disconnected.
I call back but there's no answer. I keep calling and then get through. They promise that the second charge is just pending and won't go through. The next day I check again. It's still there and not just "pending". I call to try and resolve it, but (shocking) nobody would pick up the phone during their business hours!
The practices of this business are despicable. They didn't care about correcting the error in their favor, yet were quick to make sure they charged for Ranch? Â So instead I reported them to my bank for fraud - luckily my account was fixed immediately by my bank. Now THAT'S customer service.
I don't go bowling often. But, we had a LivingSocial deal that we had to use up. The service at Strikes is very lame. They tell you one thing, but then they do something else. I didn't feel like a respected customer. I had to wait and wait.
Only good thing I got out of it was hanging out with my friends and eating pizza (sausage and pineapple) and drinking my soda. Oh, which by the way the second time we came they said they ran out of sausage. Then they came back and said we ran out of pitchers. Um, you need to be ready for crowds.
Oh, also the music is lousy. Are you trying to make people deaf!? They also need to do a better job cleaning the place up.
Bowling is already very low on my list of fun activities. I went to see my friend's band here. The staff was on the rude side, but my party managed to have fun for the most part anyway.
At the same time, I'd rather have a pap smear than go bowling and hang out here again.
A pap smear is pretty bad when you're female, but i'm a guy. Still, it can't be worse than going to Strikes and dealing with the multiple felons who frequent this place.
I totally thought I wrote a review for Strikes and Coach's before! I guess not...okay, there is not much to do in Elk Grove so I was really happy when they opened a bowling alley here! Granted, I thought they stole my idea because I always talked about opening a bowling alley in my boring hometown because it would be money in the bank, but whatever.
This place is HUGEEE. The first time I went, it was on a Saturday night and it was with my family. We did not want to wait for a lane, so we paid the extra $50 or so to get one of the lanes that were kept open for people willing to pay the extra fee. We also had to pay for shoes, games, etc. The tab got to be kind of high. The next few times I went, Â it was with friends and there wasn't much of a wait for the cheaper lanes so all we had to do was pay for shoes and per game. Decent. They also have live music inside Coach's sometimes, and a DJ for the weekends. So why two stars?
THE STAFF/WAITRESSES/SERVERS! Why is everyone so rude here? A group of my friends and I came a few moments before happy hour would end, so I asked our waitress if we could get a few drink orders in. She actually left to go check the time and came back to tell us we had a few minutes. Her tone was telling us "YOU BETTAH NOT" but we ordered a few of the strawberry margaritas (I've had a bad experience with the regular margaritas...super strong. These were all really strong too, we ended up not finishing them. Hey, but at least they're not scrimping on the alcohol) and some chicken strips. She then rudely tells us that we need to get wristbands if we want to get drinks (so we do that) and it just seemed like we were such a huge burden on her. She was nicer when the bill came...meh.
Later when we were bowling, my BF ordered fries and onion rings for our group and we didn't get them until we were already done bowling. Why does it take so long?! We were scarfing down our food and the people who had our lane next were already waiting...luckily, they were nice about it and said we could just share the space haha.
I honestly think if you are working with customer service and working for tips, smile and say hi to people as you walk past them. Be friendly, and don't act like this is such a HUGEEEE burden on you. If it weren't for the terrible service, I would come a lot more often especially for the happy hour. Â The margaritas are about $3.50 and they have $1 tacos, 50 cent wings, etc. The battered fries are also amazzing, especially with honey mustard.
In all, the food and drinks are decent, happy hour is a bargain, the alleys are nice and clean, and there's even an arcade and sports bar (cover fee, though..). However, the service kind of ruins it all. I agree with Ricky N: "If you come here... bowl, eat, drink, play, and get the hell out of there. Their service is beyond horrible and screams mediocre. Don't stick around and have to deal with their staff"
I frequent here on Thursday nights with a group of friends for Strikes' college night. Unlimited bowling from 9:30 -12:30 for only $10 including shoe rental during what is pretty much the start of the weekend for college people and state workers is awesome!
I'd recommend getting there a few minutes early to guarantee you get a lane. Some Thursdays are randomly really busy and they sell out of lanes.
Things to expect:
- Glow Bowling
- DJ playing music
- Random drink specials throughout the night ranging from $2 - $5
- $12 Pitchers of beer (I think this may be all the time)
- Red Pin Game: get a strike when you have a red pin as the head pin and get a $5 gift card
- Scavenger Hunt: DJ requesting random items from the bowlers. The more common items are gas receipts, gold gym membership cards, library cards, foreign currency, out of state drivers license, traffic tickets, and movie ticket stubs. First person to bring them up get a $5 gift card.
- Raffle Ticket Drawings: You get a ticket for purchasing unlimited bowling and if you win you get a $25 gift card. Pretty Sweet!! you can't use it on alcohol though ::sadface::
The staff there is pretty awesome too!
For serious bowlers -- the lanes themselves are pretty good, although inconsistent and, more often than not, pretty oily and would highly recommend going on other nights of the week.
Strikes has some enemies, but I've had a good time here. Â Well, let me qualify this: Â I pretty much always have a good time and Strikes has been enough of a decent bowling experience to not impede me of having said good time. Â
I have to thank Strikes' DJ for allowing me to dust off my Soulja Boy. Â Thankfully for everyone else he didn't play "You're a Jerk". Â Maybe next time I can unleash my Dougie on the unsuspecting public. Â
Speaking of unleash, apparently if you throw the ball really hard with wicked spin down the gutter sometimes it pops out and you can get a strike. Â I need to acquire the Strikes security cam tape so I can have that on video. Â
Don't let the South Sac crowd fool you. This can be a good time.
Note: Â There is some sort of $1 beer happy hour that applies to a house red beer.
Bar Math:
Tuesday Happy hour + infants in THE BAR AREA= Fucking up my buzz!
Who the fu@% brings BABIES to a bar @ 7pm? I know it's trivia night and all, but really people, leave your fricking rugrats at home with a babysitter!
BARS ARE FOR ADULTS AND ADULT SHENANIGANS.
Adults come to a bar to escape kids, not have them IN THERE!!.
I should have took pics. It was a damn shame there were TWO babies in a bar under 1 year old! WTF!!
So before you choose this bar to chill at, be aware that babies might be there.
Missing money, continue reading.....
I've only been to strikes a few times. Now don't get me wrong, they are large, have many activities and the separation of the bar and alleys is great; it offers "fun for the whole family".
Unfortunatley, the one time I am there that is not a work outing, but spending my own money on my own time, was BAD.
We went for the B-Ball Lakers Versus Celtics game. No, we were not initimidated by the hundreds of people there, and no gang violence posed a threat.
In the Bar closest to the lanes, they assumed it was a good idea to staff a bartender, and a barback for 200 very thirsty patrons. It took 30 min to get a beer, so we ended up getting 2 pitchers to avoid any trips back. So no hard feelings towards the bar tender I know she must have felt overwhelmed ( and probably a bit scared), but management? you know better.
NOW....here is the WORST part. I paid $27.17 for food. Checking my statements I see a single transactions for Coach's Bar and Grill at $100.00 even. I freaked, I called my bank and they told me to find the receipt...which I had. I faxed the info to the book keeper at the joint and she was very helpful to get me my funds back.
Did the waitress add more gratuity and pocket the money? Did she buy herself a few cocktails? Apparently she may not have closed out my card ( even though she rang it and gave it right back) leaving it open for someone else's order to be paid.....how thoughtful?
I will say, the book keeper was helpful, and I am happy to say I am getting the funds back. What I am not happy to say Is that the waitress gave me the BS line of " It needs to be paid now or else they will fire me, we have had a lot of dine and dashes lately". I respected that and did what she needed. And I was out $75.00 because of it?
The establishment is wonderful. The food is yummy, as are the drinks. But if you are there on a busy night, please keep your receipts ( cuz it saved my butt) and pay attention to your statements- as the wait staff may not be :(
This place is a complete mess. I took my two daughters here one night and it was definitely not a place you'd want to take your kids. My daughter was harrased by an old drunk man while picking up our food from the "kafe" which by the way took forever to make our order. The fries were NOT fresh and the service was terrible. It seem like every time I come in they're "short - staffed." The employees don't even look like they enjoy working there. I feel more sorry for them than their customers!
Unless you want your children to be exposed to drinking and nasty drunk men, poor slow service and not to mention dirty/expensive lanes.... don't go here.
Great place for the whole family! Â I guess if you are a teen it might be a drag to have the security and people getting on you for sagging, but as a parent of small children I LOVE it.
I'll be taking my teenager there as well as my elementary school aged kids and going for my birthday as well. Â We even spent out Girl Scout earnings from the cookie fundraiser to take the girls.
I feel that it's a safe and fun place to take -- gets a little loud after 10 pm but then I'm an older mom LOL
Listen up, idiots: stop your bitching about the tight security here. Â There is a REASON. Â Rival gangs tried to "claim" this place when it first opened, so security's just trying to keep the peace. Â Without it, you'd be complaining it wasn't safe enough for your kids. Â So get over it.
I applaud management for instituting rules of supervision for minors as well as behavior guidelines. Â I mean, if you're doing nothing wrong in the first place, you have no reason to complain, right?
Okay, enough of the disgruntled old lady talk...
I just started bowling the Monday night league and am very impressed by how well it's organized. Â Paperwork is accurate and available well before league starts, and teams are segregated from the recreational bowlers. Â Quick response when service is called for technical problems or food & drink orders.
We planned on using our 2-for1 Coach's entree coupon from http://entertainment.com for dinner, but ended up with a couple Happy Hour specials instead because they were so cheap! Â $1 tacos! Â For a buck you get an EXTREMELY generous portion of carnitas, chicken or beef on two small corn tortillas, slathered with salsa, red onion and lots of cilantro. Â We also ordered 5 buffalo wings at 50 cents apiece.
We had ordered 3 carnitas and 2 chicken tacos. Â The bartender told us the cook accidentally made 5 carnitas tacos and that the chicken ones would be out pretty quickly. Â In the meantime, we devoured the 5 carnitas tacos! Â 7 tacos for $5? Â How can you not love that deal??
We'll be back next Monday...
Some of these negative reviews seem valid, but most sound ridiculous!
Strikes has a beautiful set-up. It is a well set up floor plan that was well decorated. I have gone back to Strikes many times, at many different times of the day. The prices change and obviously get more expensive during the busiest times: Friday and Saturday Nights. They also have glow bowl at these times with a live DJ, which is really fun!
I love the convenience of the bar in the middle of all of the. The sports bar was also a cool place to hang out, with people bustling and live music on the weekends. The service in Coach's did seem a little unorganized.
There is plenty of room to hang out with friends, cheap prices, nice restrooms, and fun things to do for all ages. I think people in Elk Grove should appreciate their new addition. I am from Lodi and every other bowling alley in the area is a huge disappointment compared to this one...at the same price or higher!
Last point is about the security. It sounds to me like the people that complain about tight security are the ones that have an issue to begin with. Strikes is a nice place to go because they don't have gang kids or wannabes hanging out, they don't have a bunch of young teens hanging out unattended, and they don't have underage drinking because they scan your id and give you a wristband. This is a GOOD THING! The security is so tight because they initially had problems with weapons being brought into the building.
Personally one of the main reasons I go is because of the thorough security!
If I were to ever submit a story to the FML blog, it would go like this:
I went to Strikes. Â FML
My whole immediate family was in town for a weekend, so we all decided to go bowling. Â It was my bright idea to go to this place since it just opened up.
Bad Freaking Idea...
First of all, the security here is incredibly ridiculous and unnecessarily invasive. Â Full on searches at the door like we were at the airport or a club. Â A security guard followed me to the bathroom where I was taking out my Invisalign. Â The dude straight up evil eyed me like I doing illegal drugs or something during the whole process.
Second of all, they forgot to call our name on the waiting list and completely skipped my family. Â We waited for a long time so my family went to register ourselves. Â Generally, I don't have a problem with that kind of a thing, but I do have a problem when some loser cashier gives us that lecture school librarian voice and says, "NEXT TIME YOU NEED TO LISTEN WHEN WE CALL YOU. Â YOU MISSED IT YOURSELVES!" Â We're the freaking customer jerks. Â If you think for a second that you can say that when seven different people failed to hear our named called out and the beeper you gave us never went off, you have another thing coming to you. Â
Third, the prices are way overpriced for bowling. Â I think for five games and shoe rental went way above $50. Â
Lastly, the layout of the whole bowling place is overly complicated and barely functional. Â You have random tables that don't align with the bowling lanes and incredibly uncomfortable chairs. Â One of the bowling staff went to our table and literally told us to "GET OFF" because it was reserved for another group. Â There was no reservation marking on the table and no free tables around us...so was this person wanting us to finish our game while standing?
All of the staff are rude. Â Everything was completely filthy and nobody was putting any of the bowling balls away. Â My brother made a compliant and even the manager gave us push back and attitude. Â The manager threw some free game tickets at us to get us out of his hair which I tore up and threw away because this place was just that bad. Â
I will never come back again. Â That's right, Strikes doesn't even deserve the "maybe they were just having a bad day and I'll try back again" review. Â Congrats Strikes - you made my first 1 star.
The security at Strikes is RIDICULOUS! It's comparable to the security checkpoint at the airport (no joke). Â I can't believe I was asked to discard an unopened bottle of water and open my purse at the "checkpoint"...this is a bowling alley not SFO or AT&T Park!
Aside from the security fiasco, I had a great time bowling. Â The lanes were well kept and the leather sofas (yes, leather) were very comfy. Â We all felt very spoiled to be sitting on these sofas as we're acustomed to broken plastic seats. Â Geez, even the scores were presented on flat-screen TVs. Â
After our game of bowling, we headed to the quasi-arcade. Â It completely sucks for any kid as half the games were out of order and the other half were out of tickets. Â How is this any fun? Â
The place appears to be new and has potential. Â Hopefully they can get it together, rather than focusing on tightening the already tight security.
Fantastic addition to Laguna West area!
The lanes are brand new, neat, and well-kept---it's a bit pricey, but they run off-peak specials often.
We ate at the Coach's restaurant (mostly "bar" food), and the food was very impressive. Great burgers!
Lots of stuff to do here for the kiddies as well! Arcade with toy prized, etc....highly recommend!
