I ate here last night with my girlfriend and her parents. Â This place is seat yourself and we wondered through three different rooms before finding a seat in a back corner. Â It was a Saturday night though and their beer selection is quite impressive so we weren't too surprised.
Since I had partaken of a snack earlier in the day I decided to have the buffalo chicken salad for my entree with blue cheese dressing.  The salad came out with decent looking lettuce, buffalo chicken, blue cheese crumbles, and cheddar cheese.  It was surprisingly good and I happily ate it without any dressing since my dressing did not taste like blue cheese.  Everyone else at the table also enjoyed their food even though there was a small hiccup.  My girlfriend ordered the roast beef wrap which was served with a big dark hair on it.  Upon telling the server, she quickly took it away and brought a fresh one while comping it from our check.  We did appreciate her helpfulness and  the unasked comp.  The rest of the table decided to split a chocolate peanut butter cheesecake for dessert which was quickly gone and they told me was good.
I am not sure if I would head back here in the future. Â We did appreciate the customer service and low cost of the food as well as the beer list but that hair has me leery.
Everything is better when your younger, I remember the French Dip on a really nice kaiser roll lots of beef and  au jus juice. That isn't what I ordered, what came on the place was a french dip on hogie roll less beef and colored watered down au jus juice. The plymouth tavern is known for two things beer and wings. Do not go outside of that ordering menu or you will be very disappointed.
I'll come back to the plymouth as its a good place to meet and drink but its a two star place to eat so make sure you put your taste buds in 2 star gear mode so your not disappointed. Â
I really wanted the plymouth to get better with age, its outlasted all the other bars on state street and I expected the food to get better and fresher, more current but they didn't make an effort. Something fresher would have been nice, fruit place offered, cobb salad.
But take my advice, get the beer and wings you won't be disappointed.
The Plymouth is still one of my favorite places back home in Erie. Â Now I do not get here often but it does not mean that I never get back... every once in awhile I need my fix and get here for some cheap food and cheap beer :)
Depending on the time of year, it may be a much younger college crowd (which back in the day always used to depend on their special and I am not sure if this the case anymore as I am not here during the week when they often had these). Â Sometimes this all can make it hard to get a table if you are actually looking to eat and enjoy time with friends and family (my suggestion if you want to come here is definitely to plan around when it may be busy if you can). Â
I still love the Wings here... now I have had better elsewhere, but for nostalgic reasons I still love the Plymouth's wings. Â Decent beer selection but last time I was there I did not see many Craft beers which I would like to see a lot more of (this too may have possibly changed in the last 5 months). Â
If you are not from the Erie area and have not been here, I suggest checking it out. Decent service, cheap prices, and decent food!
My favorite upscale dive bar ever (I don't know what that means). The food is generally good and very cheap. Probably all prepackaged frozen food, but it still comes out tasting pretty good. The menu has one page in size 6 font with all the beer selections. Immediately makes up for the food not up to michelan star standards. I could have sworn I saw a $1 import night.
On my last visit, I received some of the best service ever. Brittany was behind the bar and handling all of the nearby tables. In most places, my group would have been ignored completely. Not here, received constant attention, quick service, constantly refilled waters and fresh beers.
The place also has a nice interior courtyard, if you don't want to spend a sunny afternoon in a dark bar.
And I left with almost as much money in my pocket as when I arrived. Â Fantastic.
As far as just being a bar, it is a great place to get together with friends and hang out or even watch a game (Sunday is their wing day, great for groups to watch football). Spacious, laid-back, and extremely cheap drink prices, particularly in their specials. The food though is sub-par at best and made from cheap, previously frozen ingredients. Great hang out spot - although it can get VERY packed - but not so great food.
Review Source:File under "Good for Erie" - like so many things in my hometown, you just have to lower your standards when you're in Erie. Â
It's always full of Gannon kids and it's always quite loud ... maybe that's part of the charm?
That said, I always must visit and pay homage to the Plymouth when I am visiting Erie.
Plymouth is great. Â It can be incredibly packed some nights and when they run their specials it can be hard to even get in the door. Â In the warmer months definitely check out the back patio. Â And man do I miss my college days. Â Everywhere else I have lived has burned a hole in my wallet when it comes to drinking. Â Definitely check out the shot menu. Â They do some interesting flavors.

"WHAT?!" Â I exclaimed when my friend Kayla--we used to work together at another bar in Erie years ago--handed me my drink from behind the bar and let me know how much it was.
"IT'S ERIE! Â WELCOME BACK, KRISTIN!" Â Kayla screamed.
Ohhhh yeah, it is cheap to drink in Erie. Â Wanna believe I was charged $7.50 for that same drink at a near-dive bar in San Diego about a week ago?
Plymouth is a down-home no-frills bar, and it's the place to be on Mondays (quarter drafts special from 8PM-close) and Thursdays ($1 and $1.50 imported beer special from 9-11PM). Â In fact, Plymouth was wall to wall sardine-packed last night (Monday) despite the fact that (A) it's a pretty large space, (B) it's the time between Christmas and New Year's, and (3) most of the local college students are out of town.
Plymouth has sprawling space and different areas to chill including a nice little patio out back. Â (Though the patio is really nice in the summertime--arrive early to grab a table out there on busy nights--it's certainly no place to be in December in Erie!) Â Last night, however, was so packed that finding a spot to hang out simply meant searching for 2 square feet of unoccupied floor space anywhere.
Diverse crowd. Â Multiple bars. Â Free popcorn out of a machine. Â
Awesome juke box. Â Last night my friend Dave and I arrived to the sound of, of all things, "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. Â The very next song on the playlist? Â "Regulators." Â Hilarious. Â Now enjoy some super-cheesy Spice Girls lyrics in your head the rest of the day:
If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends.
Make it last forever, friendship never ends.
If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give.
Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is.
Alright, I'll give it 2 stars based on the fact that I had some amazing drinks and drink specials.
I was home visiting on leave and we decided to have a girls night out. I know absolutely no military people are in Erie, but they wouldn't take that as a form of ID. Great. But luckily i had my drivers license.
It was so flipping packed in there that my friends and I got instantly annoyed. It took us literally an hour just to get a few beers delivered to our table. there was hardly any energy- it was just a lot of commotion and little teeny boppers. We left immediately after that.
Go here if you want to wait hours on drinks and if you like not being able to think straight because there is so much unnecessary noise. Oh and if you love getting grinded by people walking by because there is NO room to move. SO unpleasant.
I stopped in here this past summer when I was visiting my brother. I'm originally from Southern Cali, and was pleasantly surprised with the upbeat crowd. The drinks were good, plenty of people, and they were all very friendly. Not to mention I was the center of attention, being from CA and all...doesnt hurt ;-) Will visit again next time i'm in PA!!!
Review Source:We stopped here for happy hour on our first day into town. Â 1/2 price wings and 25 cent drafts ( i think those started at 8pm)... Â bartenders were pretty nice... we decided to leave and go walk around for a little while... when we came back (after 8pm) the place was STUFFED full of 18 year olds with thier fake ids....
I'm not an old fart (we're both 25) but it was pretty unbearable ... we didn't stay for a drink the 2nd time...
