A corner bar in the Pleasure Point neighborhood; recently they have been hosting blues, folk and Americana bands. Compared to the other dives in the area (Castaways, Over the Hill Gang), they have a decent selection of beers on tap and spirits on the shelves. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is extremely relaxed.
The ceiling has a home-made leopard print pattern and there are many portraits of Our Lady of Guadalupe. There is also a pinata Jesus Christ with red streamers coming from His Wounds. Weird.
Jerry just added Jam seesions on Thursday night. I went last night and it was terrific!
Some of the finest local talent I have heard. The dance floor was rocking. The second pool table has been removed to make space for dancing and a table for drinks. There is a new raised band stand as well. Great additions! Go on Thursday and check it out. Starts at 7:30. If you are hungry the neighborhood chinese restaurant Guang Zho next door is tasty and reasonably priced. I loved the Sam Sam seafood soup and Chicken in black bean sauce i had before the Jam!
Definitely not the most convenient location for me, and you might have some doubts just from passing by, but come in!! It's beautiful inside! I love the decor, lovely artwork and awesome posters. Â It's light and friendly. Â The bartenders are attentive and creative! The drinks are always good, I like to try new things when I come here. Â Not the huuuugest alcohol selection here, but there's enough of a variety to inspire me to come back and try new things!
Review Source:The Pocket is hands-down the best bar in Santa Cruz. The atmosphere is very mellow and an all-around perfect place for locals to relax. The entire bar is exceptionally clean, especially the bathrooms, which is always appreciated. The drinks are reasonable and the bartenders are incredibly nice and helpful. It's refreshing to finally discover a bar with nice customers too! If you want to try a new bar and make yourself a usual this is definitely it.
