Popped in for lunch not many people. I thought it was the time of year...December weekend. Had a diet coke and beer, so no problem. Also the fried pickles were great. I might drop in for drinks in the afternoon, and the fried pickles. Needs a band or upbeat music.

Full disclosure: Went here with my family to grab a couple drinks since my mom is an avid tequila fan. Walking in, the place is huge and has one of the best (if not the best) view of the harbor. Hostess told us to seat ourselves, so we did. After waiting for a waiter for 5 minutes, we decided to leave the table and go to the bar. Bar tender seemed like it was his 1st week. Total, there were about 15 people patronizing the bar and he seemed totally stressed out. Mind you, when we walked up the rest of the bar had their drinks already. Anyhow, drinks were good, list of tequila was one of the most impressive I have seen! As mentioned in other reviews, the bar is strictly monitored and the bar tenders pour via jiggers for portion control. I 100% understand the value and importance, but it looks ridiculous when you are pouring an expensive tequila into a snifter via a jigger. Moving on, the place seems like it has SOOO much potential yet lacks proper management/staff. The location, view, even the concept would work if it was ran and executed better. I cannot speak on the food as we stopped just for drinks. I can't blame the bar tender if he was new, he was trying and that's all that counts. But after reading negative reviews then going anyways and having this type of mediocre experience does not resonate well. I just hope that they can figure it out or have new management take over.

I'm probably being generous in giving this place 4 stars, but I don't really understand all the 1-star reviews because I didn't find this place that bad at all, so I guess I'm trying to help bring up the average a bit. Yes, this place is overpriced, but I thought the food was good. Maybe not the greatest, but very good. My only complaint about the food other than the prices is that they cover EVERYTHING with cilantro, which I can't stand, but I was able to pick most of it off and it was fine. I had no problems with the service; our server was very attentive and friendly. We went for lunch so it wasn't that busy. The atmosphere is nice; it is mostly outdoor seating with a nice view of the harbor, but if you want to sit inside in the air-conditioning the bar area is indoor. Overall I was satisfied with the experience; would probably give it 3.5 stars instead of 4 if only because the prices are too high.

Horrible drinks, food, and service. Wish I could give negative stars. Stay away from this tourist trap.

Not a fan. And obviously neither is anyone else because it's usually empty.

This is a great place to get afternoon cocktails and enjoy a great view.  If you love watching the boats go by, this is it.

Dancin' Iguana's offers a lot of variations on margaritas and mojitos starting at about $7.  The watermelon mojito has become one of my favorite summer drinks.

I've never tried the food but as a local, I'm pretty suspicious of most of the tourist traps.  I prefer to do my drinking here and mosey across the street for some food at Maguire's or Dewey Destin's.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about this restaurant. The food isn't great, the service was bad, and it was super expensive. On the plus side I really enjoyed the live music and, of course, the view.  I've given this restaurant two chances one to woo me and the other to redeem itself but unfortunately it failed.  This isn't baseball, sorry, two strikes and you're out in my book! Want a great restaurant on the harbor (of course with the great view).  check out harbor docks! Great sushi, seafood, and everything else.  My husband who doesn't care for seafood loves this place because I can get my seafood/sushi fix and he can still enjoy a meal :)

I wish I'd consulted Yelp before coming here and I wish I could give less than one star. I won't bother restating what others have already said other than saying this place has HORRIBLE service and the food is *maybe* a little better than mediocre. If I'm going to pay a lot for mediocre food, I want outstanding service. That ratio is non-negotiable.

Two words: tourist trap. Sad, because it's a great location with potential for great atmosphere and could be a fun place.

Oh, and ditch the traveling Mariachi band, will ya?

They did have good tamales and guacamole, though. I'll give 'em that.

    Lesson learned.

I visited on Father's day weekend 2011 and it wasn't crowded, the service was great and the food was delicious.   It's a little higher priced than typical Mexican but the servings were large, the sizzling brownie and ice cream was enough for 4 people to split and the view was priceless.

HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO,  Unless you go to the Dancin' Iguana.
I am from the St. Louis area, and I wish I wouldn't have gone here for the evening of Cinco De Mayo.  I was actually traveling for work, with several co-workers, and met up with some friends.  Thought this place would be good for Mexican fare.   NOT!   I ordered the Fajitas, and they were just plain bad, cold.  I cant tell you how it tasted, because I sent it back.  While other peoples food was tasteless and disgusting.  In addition the drinks were watered down, and overpriced.   Its a nice area on the water.   If you are in the area, don't go to Dancin' Iguana, or the Happy Lobster.  Both owned by the same people.  But HARRY T's and AJ are GREAT!

Not very good. "Poppy" needs to stick to one cuisine and PERFECT it. Its no good when you have 3, 4, 5 places serving crappy different cuisines. This place attempts tex-mex. How cute. Poppy's, get back to seafood and do it well this time.

After reading the reviews for this restaurant on Yelp, I braced for the worst; perhaps because of this I had a better experience than I had expected in every respect, from the food to the service.

With the exception of Harry T's, the reviews for the Harbor Walk restaurants are bad.  For some reason I went ahead anyway and made reservations on New Year's Eve at Dancing Iguana.  When we arrived (6pm) it wasn't too crowded; getting a party of 4 of us seated took longer than it should have, but from there on out the service was fantastic.  Our waiter - Hector - was funny and very helpful, checking in often, making recommendations, and answering questions that we had.  Drinks came out relatively quickly, and appetizers and entrees arrived at a reasonable pace as well.

The drinks (margaritas) were pretty good.  The food was okay, however considering the prices they charge for entrees (around $13 per entree an up) you'd really hope it would be better.  We ordered a guacamole and chips; the guacamole looked like it had been through a blender and could have been drunk with a straw (not a plus), and was heavy on the lemon juice (also not a plus).  Another appetizer - I'm a little fuzzy on which one, something about shrimp or ceviche if I remember correctly - was extremely heavy on the chips and not enough on anything else.  The stuffed relleno pepper (with ground beef) was pretty good but a little low on flavor.

The atmosphere was probably the best part.  The view of the harbor is great from anywhere on the patio; there's a nice fountain and iguana statue as well.

In summary, not bad, but definitely there's better ways to enjoy both Mexican food and the harbor.  If you're thinking about giving Dancing Iguana a try, they have happy hours throughout the week that would be a good opportunity to try it out for a lower price.

A friend and I stopped in one evening during the slow season.  We sat at the bar, and ordered from the menu. I ordered the enchiladas, and they were terrible.  The sauce seemed to be a chili powder paste, very dry and harshly flavored.  The enchilada's tasted straight from the freezer, with a minute in the microwave.  I've had TV dinners with more depth of flavor.   Would not recommend this place to anyone.

This review is long overdue (visited during Labor Day weekend), and it's my first one star review. The one star is for the atmosphere alone. It's such a shame that with its location and setting this place could have so much potential, but instead has become a tourist trap for Destin.

Having never been to Destin, FL, my friends and I decided to take a stroll and explore Harborwalk Village, which has an inviting collection of restaurants, water activities, shops and boutiques. We were in the mood for some drinks, live music, and good food. Poppy's Dancing Iguana fit the bill, on paper at least.  We should have known better from the start, since some of the staff were outside greeting people passing by and luring them in by offering free appetizer's and coupons for up to $10 off a meal.

Upon walking in, we noticed the customers were scarce, but the view of the harbor and outside patio still made us feel welcome. The waiter brought us chips and salsa, took our drink order, and disappeared until the point we had to flag down another waiter to ask for water which was never brought to us. Finally, our waiter returned with only 2 of 4 drinks, and proceeded to tell us they didn't have some of the ingredients to make the missing drinks. The drinks we did receive were watered down, nothing special. My mojito tasted more like flavored lemonade. Blah.

After another long wait, we finally ordered our food and waited some more. I was baffled about having to wait so long being that there were hardly any customers (obviously with good reason). We then flagged down another waiter to refill our drinks. 10 years later our food was served, and what a huge disappointment it was. We each ordered something different, and neither of us was content with any of it. The rice was grainy, and dry, I had to wash it down with my drink. The enchiladas had a rubberish taste to them. Everything was just horrible, I was shocked. I can honestly say I have never had such poor quality food anywhere.

To add salt to the wound we had to pay a high bill for overpriced disgusting food, weak drinks, and terrible service. The whole experience ruined our mood for the rest of the evening; we decided to call it a night after that. I wasn't surprised when we all complained of having sore tummies the next day.  You have been warned; steer clear from this place when in Destin. They need a new chef, and waiting staff pronto!

HORRIBLE!!!! Do not go!!! HUGE TOURIST TRAP!!

It is all outdoor, so you 1st off die of heat and all your cups sweat and drip on you. The menu is very small and simple.. oh and very pricey! the kids menu had 3 items all of which my son wouldn't eat. The meals have no sides. So I ordered Mexican rice and it was rice a roni!!! HORRIBLE!! If you're going to drink, stick to  beer because the mixed drinks were horrible!!

I don't know how much I can stress HORRIBLE!!!!
