We just stumbled upon this place driving by on our way to the coast  and stopped on a lark.  It was 2pm so not too busy.  The menu was very eclectic but great for 2 vegetarians that sometimes eat fish.  I ordered the Ahi sandwich and my companion got the house special gnocchi.
I loved the modern clean atheistic of the place.  It was actually very soothing and we relaxed with our beverages while our attentive server helped us.  WE both enjoyed our meal and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients with every bite.
My companion got dessert....it was a lemon with berrries...but I don't remember what it was called.  I guess it is one of their best sellers and was really good.  The sad part as this might be a one time experience as who know it the GPS will lead us near here again.....what a happy place to stumble upon!!

Very cool atmosphere and a menu full of promise. So many interesting dishes! We had a hard time deciding, but we settled on the tuna poke tacos, the pork belly tacos and a scramble. We're ready, and although the place is quite empty, nobody is coming by to take our order. It took a good ten minutes.

The food arrives, and hmmmm.... It doesn't look as appetizing as we thought. We quickly learn that pork belly is the new code word for bacon. A slice of bacon is cut in half, smothered in an apple-radish slaw, and set atop two regular size corn tortillas. The bacon was out of balance. There was too much tortilla and too much slaw. This dish would work much better if real pork belly, cut in CHUNKS, was placed in SMALL tortillas, and the amount of slaw was balanced.

The tuna poke has other problems. For starters, the tuna was old. The color was a bit grayish and it had the matte finish of day-old sushi. To make matters worse, it was insipid. Some sesame oil and some citrus would have awaken the dish.

The scramble was quite good, as well as the potatoes.

Very hip place, but the food and the service were big letdowns.  We'll probably bypass the place next time we're in the area.

Was in Petaluma two weeks ago around 9PM and was starving.  I had heard of this place and we decided to stop.  The transformation from the previous restaurant was amazing.  The server told us the Chef is from New Orleans and boy did it show.  THe food was great. Southern comfort with a California flare.  Loved the truffle parmesan fries and the pork sliders.  And to top it off Fried Green Tomatoes.... Will definitely return.

3 stars because I ate alone and only had one thing so benefit of doubt until I return...if. What I had, however was not worth $12.75 and certainly not at lunch. Lunch prices seem high generally. The place looks clean and it seems to fit the need in Petaluma. But......Petaluma is no chicken town anymore. There's just way too many places to eat. There's no room for weak items on a menu with that much competition.

Eat Your Brussel Sprouts! - grilled, with aisiago cheese, cherry tomatoes all wrapped in a flour tortilla. I found these very tasty, but the sprouts were a bit to much to chew for me - good but just not my texture...hubby loved them.

Gary was a great server- attentive, knowledgeable about the food and drinks, and friendly but not - "I'm going to pull up a chair" friendly-just right.

We sat on the patio out back...lovely "mini picnic" style tables, patio chairs and umbrellas..a creek nearby and the most WONDERFUL eclectic music mix...Bruno Mars, Pink Martini, Tragically Hip,

OK food: (we went for Happy Hour)
*Buttery Chardonnay was house white -$5
*My man got a sampler of beers-$6
    *Sliders $3/ea (must buy 2)
    *Sweet potato fries--with a chipolte dip-$3
*Fish tacos -$3/ea (must buy 2)
*Brussel sprouts tacos (same as above)
*Apple Crisp Bread Pudding with Whiskey hard sauce

    Ahhhhhhh.....

Great food, great atmosphere, great service!
    We will be back!

*Inside looked nice too--causal tall tables and a long upholster bench with tables and chairs.

I've been to this restaurant probably 6 or 7 times.  What I really like about it is that everyone in the party is happy. Burgers, salads, comfort food and homemade pretzels.  Even the brussel tacos are good.  The ingredients seem fresh and seasonal and the food tastes homemade.  The soups are also very delicious but sometimes they are sold out.

I live in the neighborhood and eat/drink here often. Great consistent service. Have only had one mediocre meal here. I highly recommend the brussel sprouts tacos.

We've been here twice. The first time was excellent. I had the burger and it was one of the BEST burgers I've had in years! I love that they serve carrots and apples for the kids. My little one also devoured the pickle on my plate. Yesterday, we went with a big group and I tried the Monte Cristo sandwich off the brunch menu--YUM. My husband had the barbecued shrimp appetizer and loved it as well. I took off one star because of an unfortunate service interaction yesterday. We were a group of 11 and I arrived first to request a table. The dining room was about 25% full and I told them we would be 11 plus two high chairs. The hostess and one of the servers were kind of unclear whether they could accommodate us. They informed me they were expected a reservation for 20 about 30 minutes later and one of them stated that they were not supposed to put in orders for more than 17 people in an hour? What!!!? My opinion is, if you can't accommodate that many people, you shouldn't have so many tables. AND, more importantly, this did not need to be explained to me, the customer. It made me feel like our business wasn't wanted. The rest of the meal was fine and we even had two servers taking care of us. We will be back (maybe not with a large party though).

We have frequented Pub Republic several times and have always had good experiences.  Their draft list is great, and their patio/beer garden out back is heavenly - right next to the creek, lots of trees, perfect for enjoying beer and food on a nice evening.  Burgers are imaginative and very good, we love the potato nachos as a starter, salads are good, good selection of sandwiches.  Good for casual dining, sitting at the bar, relaxing outside with friends, overall nice neighborhood spot!

I really wanted to like this place so I gave it a couple tries.  The environment is nice and very pub trendy.   The food however is mediocre with disappointingly small portions for a rather large price.   The service is also poor with no notice of the fact that I didn't eat any of the terrible food on my last visit.   Finally, I know it's not cool of me to think so, but I just don't want to eat dinner with my child next to someone's pit bull and just hope it's one of the nice ones and/or the owner is paying attention. Too bad.

So we've come here a few times now since it opened, and have enjoyed the brunch and our meals each time. Breakfast and sandwich platter portions are plentiful, however I will agree with other yelpers who note that it can be a bit pricey for the portion you get when it comes to other items like appetizers. The jicama side salad with the wings is very tasty, and we're always glad to see a chef include seasonal and fresh veggies on the menu. Probably what we love most about PR is that we can bring our dog and sit outside. In a very dog friendly town, we're glad to have a place we can bring her to dine with us (outside on the patio), seeing as there are not many restaurants that will allow this.  It saddens me to see other yelpers discouraging dogs from this establishment since there are so few good places in Petaluma to eat well and dine with friends in an enjoyable atmosphere outdoors and be able to bring our dog.
Overall, the ownership seems receptive to feedback, and hopefully they'll view this yelp as valuable feedback. Thanks for letting us bring our pooch!!!

I had already decided I didn't want to come again because service was slow and inadequate. The owner showed lack of hospitality. But it was a gathering I was invited to so I went. The owner (wife) had a grim look on her face. Food was not good. My 3 year olds kids menu garden burger was HUGE. She couldn't eat it.
My sister says the menu, service, and quality of food changes often.

We went here for Sunday brunch. The hostess Sarah who seated us was very welcoming. Our server Lea was nice and took good care of us, as well as all the busboys.
Sarah recommended the Brussel sprout tacos which were just a little out of my comfort zone. But I can say, they were tasty.  Everyone stated that there breakfast was good and we all walked out stuffed. The outside seating was comfortable ( maybe some misters on hot days would be nice) all in all the staff was  relaxed and gracious. We will definitely be going back. I hear they have live music sometimes but can't find out when and who.....

I just dropped in here to catch up on some emails (they have free WiFi) and decided to grab a quick salad for lunch. I ordered the Wedge Salad with Steak. It was AMAZING! Their Blue Cheese dressing was obviously home made, the meat was tender and cooked PERFECTLY and the serving was not small. It was delicious. Great job Pub Republic!

I'm so sorry PubRep I tried and tried and tried and now I must abstain.

I've been coming here since they opened as its my local neighborhood joint. I've enjoyed myself many times and like what they are doing. The menu has grown to include happy hour specials and a couple new drinks.

Problem is there is no consistency, its like a roller coaster ride from one visit to the next. Sometimes the service is good other times its absent. Sometimes the food is good other times its terrible.

On one occasion I feel in love with the "nachos," so I began to always order them. The next time they came out all burned up so I had to ask them to re-fire them, no prob right? Next time they were good again, spot on. The tuna tacos can range for plump little tacos filled with super fresh tuna or tiny little babies with hardly anything inside of them.

On my last visit, which unfortunately will probably be my last visit we again had the nachos. They arrived looking great, piled high, lots of toppings, oohey gooey cheese, perfectly amount of chipotle crema. We begin diggin in, bite after bite is delicious, then I spot a black hair baked into the cheese. I pull a chip and uncover even more hairs as they are totally clumped together. As we push them aside we see yet a second clump of hair. Right about this same time the sever comes by and we show her the hair and she says "oh my" takes them and says "I'll re-fire." I get it mistakes happen but 2 huge clumps of hair is just gross.

On top of that there was no apology from her, someone else brought the new order out which we barely touched for obvious reasons. She basically avoided us for the remainder of the time we were there as I'm sure she was so embarrassed. Both owners who I've spoken with on many occasions also did not come by to apologize. Maybe she kept this a secret from them or maybe they too were just too embarrassed.

The bill arrives at our request and you guessed it the Nachos were on there. No apology, no offer to make good, no nothing. They just brushed it under the rug and for that I can not return. I've been in hospitality virtually my whole life, I've been partner and ran a restaurant and this to me was just inexcusable.

I'm sorry Mark and Jory I wish you the best but some things need to change.

Pretty shocked at reading some of these nasty reviews. If customers have a problem with food or service, why don't they ask to speak to the owners? My husband and I went there for the first time tonight.  I typically wait to write reviews until a second or third time, but I decided to go with my gut and give a first impression review.  All I can say is Wow!  Friendly service; fabulous burgers; fantastic fries that rival Dempsey's -- and that's saying something, because we think Dempsey's fries are the best in town -- and a super beer selection.  Ended the meal with bread pudding which was fresh, warm, and drizzled in caramel -- utterly delicious.  Can't wait to go back.

Dog friendly patio, excellent service (friendly, attentive, accurate, personable), yummy food and a fair selection of beers. 4 people, big beers and meals, total $85
.*** PS to those who complained about the service: I think the staff has responded to your complaints. You might be pleasantly surprised if you gave them another chance.

    Great decor. Friendly waitstaff.
The calamari was amazing, and the vegetarian burger was good too.

Stopped by with my wife last Sunday after downing a couple at Lagunitas beer garden. Great craft beer selection-that gets 5 stars for sure! My wife had a Ballast Point Sculpin IPA for $6 which is a great price. I opted for a Trumer Pils-$5.50. We ordered a cajun calamari dish ($8) The calamri rings were light and crispy but they had way too much marinara-like sauce and chopped olives on the plate. It just didn't go together. We did see several burgers go out and they looked really good.. Definitely going to try one next time. Service was good-we always try to sit at the bar. Approximately 10 beers on tap with some rotating handles and lots of bottled selections as well.

1st visit hubby loved his burger, I didn't love mine. Beer glass sat empty too long and we weren't offered dessert.
2nd visit I loved my chicken special, hubby was disappointed that the cheese on his burger changed.Beer glass sat empty too long and we weren't offered dessert.

Tonight all the food was good, beer glass was refilled and dessert was consumed :)

Came here on Butter & Egg Days parade last weekend.  Everywhere downtown was slammed and we just wanted to get *something* to eat.  Even though it was late afternoon, we still had to wait a few minutes, which I was fine with because lines downtown were super long.

Their food was modestly priced and service great.  The atmosphere, decor, seating, most everything inside/outside is quite upscale too.  We sat outside and it was perfect.  Our food and drinks came out quickly and was tasty.  Everything seemed to be made by hand.  The burger was slightly bland because they didn't put any mayo on the bread or the meat wasn't seasoned quite enough...  Still high marks for the experience.

How this averaged 4 stars is beyond me, but if you look at the trend option, you can see their stock plummeting!

Service wasn't great and it wasn't busy. I have only been once, but the food was so bad, I am unsure of even giving it a second chance. Order the RIB appetizer at $12. I get RIBLETS that are an inch long and only 6. The look on my face when I received them was obvious enough for the server to comment how no one orders them. I took one bite and sent them back. First off, they are not RIBS! At $12, you will get a half rack at any true BBQ joint. Not dried out RIBLETS with some weird fruit side.

Got a burger too, and it was pretty raw and flavorless. I would rather go to Super Burger, Mike's, or In & Out instead of here.

You get one star for ambiance, but it is brand new. Who designed the joint? I will give them a raving review.

Tons of potential all gone to waste.

I love this place!  Have been here twice now.  Food is excellent and used with local products.  Best of all is GEOFFREY our waiter the second time we were there. I can't

I sure hope that this restaurant makes it here in Petaluma!  I know I will be returning....and I am picky!

    I've been here twice.

Honestly, there is better and worse.

I came here on a Wednesday with a girlfriend and my baby (10 months.) We were there at 5:30pm, just in time for happy hour! Not. Happy Hour prices are only for folk sitting at the high tables and the bar. So we asked to be move to the high table? No, with a smile at my kid.

So, if you have a kid, that means no happy hour prices? Hm. That sucks.

We stayed anyway. Beer menu was fine. Limited, considering it's called Pub Republic.

    Truffle French Fries were yummy.

Second trip: ordered the 8oz sirloin steak, medium. Definitely rare. I ate most of it anyways as I'm not one to waste. And, it was seasoned well and the scalloped potatoes were good with the fresh veggies.

My parents shared the bleu cheese burger and the fish n chips. They enjoyed it. Slaw was disappointing. Grandfather ordered the Alaskan salmon and really liked it.

Waitress brought us carrots and apples for the baby and I ordered a quesadilla to give her. It was fine.

So, all in all. C+ if they were in school. :-)

Bummer about happy hour and the steak being rare when I asked for medium. Oh well!

I feel the same way as John D, except I haven't been to Pub Republic 6 times. I have only been there once, but that experience was enough for me to consider writing the owners a letter of all of the things they need to change in order to stay in business in Petaluma - the self-proclaimed restaurant capital of the country.

Contrary to many of the reviews listed, our service was pretty great. It wasn't super busy, but wasn't dead either. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful in making our selections. It was the food that was a total disappointment.

It bums me out that we had such a lousy experience with the food, since the location and atmosphere of this restaurant are very appealing. It's in a part of town that needs something like this, the interior design is modern and inviting - you really want to, as John D said, "call it your own."  I really don't want to see PR go out of business, like many previous occupants of this space, but I just don't see how it's going to happen unless they make a major menu overhaul - there is just WAY too much AMAZING food in this city, let alone county, for a mediocre place like this to stay in business.

If you are the owner of Pub Republic and are reading this, PLEASE message me? I would LOVE to outline the specifics.

The menu could use more variety for dinner plates. The atmosphere is good, however three out of four visits we were sat at tables either right up against a wall with one of us looking outside and the other unlucky one looking at the kitchen door, or in an odd 1/2 booth/chair combo right by the kitchen door. I hate crappy tables. 8-( food OK, beer tasting was fun.

We just visited Pub Republic for the second time.

After our first time, I was pretty unimpressed.  The service was extremely slow, and we were ignored for long periods of time while our server disappeared and the other people working there (bussers, I believe) milled about.  We waited about 15 minutes after being clearly done with our meal before we were checked on or delivered a check.  On that visit, I tried the chicken sandwich.  It was really really dry.  Dry chicken on dry bred with some arugula and tomatoes and no kind of mayonnaise or anything to moisten it up.  It was huge, though.  So I had a huge dry sandwich.  My boyfriend said his chipotle burger was along the same lines -- huge and dry.

My boyfriend wanted to try again, so we came in a second time.  When we walked in and there was no one in sight to greet us, I had a funny feeling we were going to have another not-so-great experience.  We didn't wait a long time before who I believe was the bartender seated us, but seemed out of his element.  He seemed just as confused as us as to why there wasn't a host or someone helping us.  He gave us our menus, and we waited.   Nobody came to take a drink order.  After waiting a little longer and being ignored some more, a man came to take our order.   I believe he's one of the managers.  Our order was delivered by a few different employees who I didn't see taking any orders, so I have to assume they were bussers.  One of them also refilled our drinks.  Finally, when we're almost done with our meal, a server shows up!  Just in time to see our already refilled beverages, give us a check and to-go boxes.  It definitely wasn't ideal.  I found myself wondering who our tip was going to.

For our second trip, the food was a little better. Truffle parmesan fries were good and you get a giant basket of fries.  Caesar was good.  Boyfriend ordered the mac and cheese with bacon and it was delicious.  The brussels sprouts tacos were okay.  After reading reviews on here I was super stoked to try them, but again I felt they lacked some moisture.

I really hope they can get the kinks in their service worked out.  Or I hope that we've just come in at bad times.  I'd really love to be able to come back and write a four of five star review but as of yet I'm not that impressed.

Came here as part of Sonoma restaurant week and very happy with my choice. The beer is cold and micro and the food good. Service is excellent.

I started with the beet salad which was fresh and flavorful although I like my greens a little less dressed.

For the main course I went with the salmon. The skin was crisp and good, salmon cooked very well, mashed potatoes were fluffy and the sauce was a nice compliment to everything, the lightly fried artichokes were a nice extra.

Dessert was the pana cotta. Just about the right texture, great sauce.

This is funny because I just saw another review from a customer that had the same experience I did.  The owner 'greeted' and seated us.  She gave no smile, no sense of a 'welcome' and for a privately owned business, this made me feel quite awkward. NOT GOOD.  Please don't make your customers feel unwelcome.  Our waitress was ok, got our order right etc. but the entire waitstaff looked miserable.  I would have to conclude this must be one mismanaged place.

The food was okay, but it was not hot and took a bit longer to arrive than other restaurants I have visited.

Overall not the best dining experience.

Albert Einstein once said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". I am guilty of this! We have been to PR six times since opening. We initially threw our yelp support behind this establishment in hopes of having a place to call our own (so very close to home).

You guys are absolutely fu#ki%g up a good thing!

You hired the wrong kind of staff.

EVERY time I've been, my beer glass has sat empty for way too long. You would have sold me twice the amount of beer had your servers been even just slightly capable.

Your servings are all over the map! From quality, to the right/same size plate, so inconsistent.

Please, please, please contact me so I may give more specifics, I would LOVE to see you guys succeed.

We stumbled in on a Sunday afternoon. Shortly after brunch stopped being served (2pm) and happy hour began (3pm). Awwww. What awful luck!

Fortunately, we weren't very hungry and we were all still nursing a nice buzz from our trip to the Lagunitas brewery. Why we stumbled in here? Curiousity, I suppose. I mean.... how can you resist checking out a spot called "Pub Republic?"

We perused the menu, and scanned the bar. We all settled on Stella, Drakes Amber, and Sculpin IPA. Can't go wrong with that! We also ordered the Truffled Parmesan Fries, Bacon Mac and Cheese, and the sliders.

Truffled Parmesan fries came with a garlic aioli. Not very truffle-y. Not very parmesan-y. Not very crispy. But the garlic aioli was a winner. We will not get these again. For $7, they can be more generous with the truffle oil and parmesan, or just drop the "truffled" part of the name.

The sliders were good. It was three sliders cooked to order with bacon and grilled onions. Good meat was used for the patties, and the onions caramelized just right. It also came with greens in the center of the plate. The greens were not dressed, so I'm not sure if they were there as a garnish or to add to your burger.... or if it was supposed to be a side salad? I'm not too sure. If it was meant to be a garnish, it was way too much. If it was meant to be added to your sliders, they should really include tomatoes and other traditional burger toppings. If it was meant to be a salad, then it should have been dressed. Hopefully they'll figure this out in the next few months.

And then... there was the mac and cheese. Not too cheesy, but just creamy enough and cheesy enough to coat every single piece of macaroni. It was just rich enough that my fork just kept digging into it. And I'm still baffled at how they managed to make it so bacon-y throughout the entire dish. The bacon pieces (thick sliced) were visible in the dish, but every bite tasted like bacon even if you didn't have a bacon piece in it! I'm intrigued. I need to learn how they managed to do this!

Service was good. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were always asking if we were doing okay --- without it being annoying. We also had a nice chat with Megan because it was so slow in the rest of the dining room.

Pub Republic is filling a huge gap on the East side as far as eating and drinking.  If you live in the neighborhood, it's well worth a try.

I really want to like Pub Republic.  Badly.  Hopefully they'll work out the kinks, as they're pretty new.  Still, it's a solid 3.5 stars.

I've had one great experience here, and 3 so-so ones., although the food's been close to 5 stars.  The trappist burger, shepherd's pie, cheese plate, and sirloin were great.  The wedge salad was pretty bleh according to the other half, andI have yet to order a cup of soup here that's actually warm.  Lukewarm soup makes me a sad panda.

Service was great, and then strange, then great, and tonight was strange again.  Something about some of the servers seems off-putting.  A strange personal style, or just a lack of caring (or even pretending to.)  It can be a long wait to simply order a drink after being seated.

They have a good selection of beer, not huge, but all quality.  It'll be interesting to see how often they rotate the draft choices.

The bread pudding was to die for. And I'm kind of a bread pudding aficionado.
The bartender was friendly and attentive (and also easy on the eyes).
    The caesar salad was solid.
The beer menu was OK -- I'm kind of a beer snob, and I'm used to our local place in Baltimore (where I now live) with 120 taps.
The atmosphere is nice, they've done a good job with the place.
All in all, I'll definitely return, if only to harmlessly flirt with the bartender and eat bread pudding. Which was served to us w/o ice cream, something it seems they've remedied judging by one of the pictures here on Yelp).

We went for lunch today and the food and beer were so good!  They were out of the warm pretzels which was a bummer but that will give me something to look forward to next time.  We ordered the truffle fries, pulled pork sliders and blue cheese burger sliders.  I think that all their beef (even on the kids menu) is grass fed so that is a huge plus.  The fries were hand cut and perfectly seasoned.  My husband loved the blue cheese sliders but I couldn't part with my pulled pork sliders even though we were supposed to share.  The pork was so tender and evenly sauced while the bun was slightly toasted to take the weight of the meat.

We will definitely be back as this was awesome pub food and they have a great kids menu (real food)!  We were served by Erin and she was so cool; she never rushed us and even made suggestions which helped our decision making.  I'm glad to see a good restaurant has opened in this location and with their reasonable pricing, we can go back more often!

A couple weeks have went by after our first meal here. This time was so much better.
We came in about 6 today (Friday) for dinner and were seated promptly. The waiter told us about the specials of the evening and had a detailed description of them too.

I ordered the Wake Up! Burger. It has a Black Coffee Rub, Smoked Paprika, Porter Cheddar & I added grilled onions. It was a nice big juicy burger ( see photo) It came with fries. I really like the fries here, regular cut with the skins on. BTW, they have Heinz® ketchup.

The wife had Blue Cheese Burger Sliders with Sweet Potato Fries and they looked yummy.

Lots of good items on the menu looking forward to trying.

Sometimes, I wish you could give partial stars in a review. I would say Pub Republic is just short of five stars. I'd give it 4.5 if I could. Working just down the street from here I was very excited to see a new restaurant opening in the area and Pub Republic did not disappoint! They have a solid menu, and although I wasn't able to able to enjoy the beer selection on my lunch break I definitely see myself dropping by for a brew or two (or three) after work. From light pilsners to dark stouts there's something on tap for every beer lover.

I had the Chipotle Burger with fries. The fries were absolutely delicious and served piping hot, which really impressed me since we  were on the tail end of lunch crowd. I just wish there were more of them on the plate! (Not just because they were good and I ate them all, but because the portion was a little on the sparse side.)The burger itself was phenomenal as well, with generous amounts of bacon and crispy onions. The bun was also perfect! It seems that all too often now days a good  burger is ruined by a bun that turns into a soggy mess under all the fixings *glances down the street at Drew's*. But from the Chipotle sauce to the juicy tomato slice everything held together nicely. I ordered it medium, but there wasn't a speck of pink to be found in the meat.

The service was also prompt and friendly. The bottom line is that I walked away with a sense that this is an establishment that is committed to doing everything they do at a high level. All of the elements (menu, service, atmosphere, beer selection, etc.) come together nicely for a great dining experience that has me excited to come back for more. If the quality stays consistent and the rest of the menu is as good I'll certainly be back to bump it all the way up to 5 stars.

Been back a few times. Everything was excellent!
