Ah, what a place.
A place to engage in discussions concerning the structure of architecture telling a story to haircuts being exchanged for booze. If there is one thing to be said of the Public House's atmosphere, it's that it has an air of be ho you want to be. The seating available encourages all manner of groups to sit, enjoy themselves, and share drinks.
While some people may be adverse to swapping their mouth germy pets with other people, the drinks served here well deserve the chance. Over the course of one evening, a group and I managed to try every drink on the menu. Of particular delight were anything with Sazerac and the Blood in the Sand.
If you need a relatively calm and quiet evening out with friends punctuated with ever-delightful drinks, this is the place for you.
If you're looking for a chill place to kick it in Knoxville, look no further. Great spot to have a conversation (probably because you can actually hear what the other person is saying) or to enjoy a well made drink. They clearly pride themselves on their cocktails here, and for good reason. You'd do well ordering anything here. Most of their drink fillers are fresh and specially made (no generic sour mix here), and their liquors are carefully selected. The vibe has been relaxed every time I've come here. If you want to have a fun, yet quiet night out, head to the Public House.
Review Source:Knoxville needs more places like this. Cool space, albeit a little out of the way (which could be part of the charm), serves great cocktails. Bartenders are great, easy going, they act like a friend you've had for years. The back outdoor area is the best, especially at night with the lights.
Review Source:I really enjoyed the selection of beers and cocktails here. The Benton's bacon bourbon was definitely interesting. Â It has a smoky flare that hits during the after taste. Â I did not care for the clientele on my visit so I'm not sure how much I will frequent this place. The fact that most of the food is from local farms is awesome and quite delicious as well. The Benton's aged ham is sooooo good it should almost be illegal.
Review Source:My favorite bar in Knoxville, TN. Â Such a low key place. Â Last time I was there a book club meeting was going on at one table, a crochet group at another & a group of middle age lawyers enjoying a pint at another table. Â You will run into all sorts of folk here. Â Most people are of the artistic genre and probably listen to great music but it doesn't create an intimidating aura. Â I love that there are no TVs and the motto of the bar is pretty much, "Let's be nice to each other and enjoy a drink." Â Â
I have tried numerous cocktails on the menu and they are all tasty. Â I love the infused vodkas they make in house and my husband is always pleased with the tap selection which changes periodically to include lots of micro-brews and a few staples. Â I ordered a cocktail that called for fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and they were out so they went next door and got some for me! Â I was amazed, you know it's few and far between that you get great service anymore and Public House has fantastic service!
Also, I like to munch on something when I drink so we get the Truffle Salted Popcorn- it is heavenly!
This is the type of place I look for in a bar. Â They've got good all-round drink selection with a handful of craft beers, decent wines, and 'classic' and 'signature' cocktails. Â The atmosphere is dimly-lit, modern, and not too loud (no live bands! Â Yay!). Â The building itself is spacious and clean. Â
The best part, though, is the crowd. Â Because of its location off of Magnolia Ave a block or two from the Old City, it keeps out the extreme 'partiers' found wandering around the ever-increasing dance scene of Central Avenue in the Old City. Â It's a place setup for having some good drinks while engaging in conversation without the intrusions of loud, unwanted bands, seizure-causing televisions, and (most) obnoxious binge drinkers looking to ruin someone else's night.
What a great place!! Â I went here last night for a meeting and drinks and I don't have a single complaint. Â
The place is gorgeous. Â Their bar is this AMAZING concrete that has pieces of beer glass embedded in it and then smoothed over. Â An owner(?) told me they saved the glass for a while to do that and it really looks incredible. Â It's a nice, modern, bougie hipster hang out near Tennessee Valley Bikes. Â There is ample parking just next to the building and they have an outdoor area which I did not check out. Â I didn't register than they don't have TVs until I read the other review, but it's an excellent point because it really makes a difference. Â I found this a great place to meet people from drinks and conversation. Â There is no live music, so you can just TALK. Â I hate going to a place to talk only to have a band overpower your conversation. Â They also have Wifi, which is handy because I needed my computer for our meeting.
As far as booze and food, there was a great variety of beers and wines - you can get bottles and by the glass. Â Good variety of hipster beers. Â I myself had a Sweetwater Blue. Â Their snacks menu (no full meals) is distinct too. Â We had the trout dip with bread which was great - fresh, with big chunks of fish on rustic bread. Â They had really neat options - chips with blue cheese dip, meat and cheese plates and other choices.
Overall, really loved the place and will definitely campaign to get my friends to meet here too.
The Public House is a really cool urban bar. Â It is located just off Central Ave. on Magnolia.
I love the interior it's really well done...with NO TV's!!! Â I believe in watching TV on your own time in your own home. Â A TV in a public space is only a distraction from conversation!!! Â So, if you need a TV to entertain you, stay home or go to the billions of places already cable ready for you in this town. Â
In addition to a full bar, The Public House also offers house made infused liquors using fruit, vegetables, and spices!! Â I LOVE the tequila infused with cucumber and jalapeno, served on the rocks with a squeeze of lime it's delicious!!! Â They also have vodka infused with Myers lemon and mint, or with kumquat and pepper. Â
They have a great little bar menu which offers unusual bar food...like White Truffle Popcorn, Adobe Boiled Peanuts, Blue Cheese Dip, Smoked Trout Dip, Beet Pesto, as well as meats and cheeses. Â It's perfect for those wishing for something beyond wings and fries! Â
I think this is a great gathering place. Â It's urban, modern, and welcomes those seeking something off the "strip"...and out of the "can". Â
Check it out. Â -It's not far from anywhere but far from anything else.
