A new business with the older vietnamese crowd. I have always liked the older Vietnamese crowd because they are much more outgoing and fun, but this place just have all of the things I really do not like about a Quan nhau.
First, I REALLY hate karaoke. I don't like to hear all these drunk sobs singing really sad vietnamese songs.. When I'm out drinking, I would not wanna hear anyone's depressing and horrible singing. I rather hear someone DJ and play some upbeat trance or hip hop.
Don't even get me started on the food.. I tried my favorite dishes like the Bo Tai Chanh, eggrolls, Ruot Heo Chien Don Xao Chua, Nai Xao Lan, and I have seen many of the dishes, but none of them tasted or looked appetizing. The only thing I thought that looked good was the Hot Vit Lon. I can handle the karaoke if the food is awesome, but the food isn't all that great.
Also, I hate how they're so limited on alcohol. I mean all lounges only have soju and beer, but they're really limited on their selection of beers. They only have corona, heineken, budlight, and budweiser. The only good thing about this place is that their beer is only $2.00.
On the plus side, the girls here are really nice and they have good service. I really want to like this place but nothing stands out to me here.
Open Late? Check. Multi-HD Sports TVs? Variety of alcohol? Check. DELICIOUS? Checkmate.
This nifty little restaurant just had their grand opening recently so the owner went all out on customer service. I'm a guy and I have my needs: food, drinks, sports. The Big 3. They satisfied all of them. The food was very exquisite and delectable. I recommend the  fried squid. It's very flavorful and the crunch just melts in yo mouth. Just incase you feel like a fatty, there's a small side of greens for you to balance your diet. Secondly, try the chicken wings...very tangy and finger licking good. Meat is very tender and the sauce gives it the extra oomph. You'll find yourself licking your fingers and wanting some more.
They have quite a selection of drinks to choose from so you'll definitely get your alcohol fix. I'm glad their TVs have all sports on them with each one showcasing a different game. That way, I can watch many games at once while licking my fingers from the tangy tamarind sauce on the wings.
Although they're a bit short on staff at the moment, they try at every possibility to serve their customers well. It really shows. So sit back, order some wings, prop up your feet, Â beer in hand, 'cause things are looking up for this well kept secret spot.
HOT NEW BUSINESS? I think so!
Quan Co May is the newest lounge bar with a Vietnamese twist hosting all sort of beers, wine, and a wide variety of Vietnamese appetizers and entrees that I do not see offered at most other Vietnamese places. Because they offer so many dishes that I have never seen being offered at other places around Little Saigon, I would set this place above and beyond others with their eclectic variety of food items.
Their beers are $2.00! Not bad. They have pretty much anything you can think of. Hot pot, scallops, chicken wings, shrimp fried rice, salads - you name it. They will have it. The owner, Huong aka Nicole was very accommodating. She made sure to talk to every table and check on how all her customers were doing. Some of my favorite dishes were:
1. Com Chien Ca Man (sp) translated into - Fried rice with salted fish. Three words: PACKED WITH FLAVOR. No need to add more soy sauce or anything of the like. It was perfect.
2. Muc Rang Muoi - Fried squid seasoned with salt. This was my favorite dish of the entire meal. The squid was not too chewy, perfectly fried. The squid was served atop a bed of salad with sauteed onions and bits of garlic. YUM! I don't really like salad but I finished that whole thing like there was no tomorrow.
3. Scallop Ap Chao - Sorry, I really have no idea how to translate this but just know it was DELISH! The scallops were so soft. Be careful when ordering this. If you turn to talk to your friend, the others at your table might just eat it all before you know it. I know it's easy to overcook scallops but these were delectable. My compliments to the chef! Covered in a rich sauce, the scallops were the definition of heaven.
I would definitely come back. During the day, this place is more of a restaurant. But come after 8pm and it becomes a PARTY HOUSE! People like to come out around this time to grab a few drinks with the buddies and impress the crowd with their incredible karaoke skills. Yes, they have a little area reserved for those brave enough to karaoke to the crowd!
The restaurant had JUST opened yesterday so their sign isn't up yet. For now it says "Si Me", but in a few days it will say "QUAN CO MAY". Bring some Vietnamese friends to translate for you! It'll be a fun cultural adventure. Take my word for it.
