Shanghai'd Room

Had a bad experience here, as an artist.  Was scheduled to play.  Showed up, asked if they had a PA. They did.  When it was time to play, when I attempted to plug my guitar, they told they would not plug in instruments because of a bad experience they had.  Fair enough.  I asked to play without being plugged in.  AFter about half hour my mic was turned off in the middle of my set because I was being too "obscure." chuckle.
The bartender told me patrons were leaving.  When I looked around, they were all still there, which I pointed out, and then asked the bar if they were being abused.  They confirmed that it was a good time.  After the bartender turned me back on, I was pretty much over it, and left.  The Owner then emailed me, cancelling my next gig for bailing.   I explained to him what happened, he quaintly apologized, but offered no amend, had already booked my slot. Guess playing bars in general is a gamble, and sometimes you gotta know before you go.

Amazing that Vinyl DJ's break out that expensive stuff to please my drinking and socializing experience!  Very Entertaining, with lot's of TV's, Movies, and funky visuals!  It look's like a lot of starting band's perform their when it's not Kariokie night, or Vinyl night.  Friendly bartender's with drink specials.

This was my first time in here as its not in my hood and I don't usually stray too far from home especially on school nights. I tend to be late for class and get sent to the principles office. But what the heck. After a few glasses of wine with dinner I figured maybe a little time in detention or a couple of swats that it might be worth risking it.

I still love to rock out in the car and occasionally sing in the shower too so why not share with friends!  I'm normally not one for karaoke but thought no one knows me here what the heck. If you heard me sing you'd sorely understand. As in sore ears.

The Shanghai'd Room is a cool little divey place that seems like it popped out of a 70's kung fu movie. From the lights strung across the parking lot with the paper lanterns to the TV inside with the bad Asian movies with the funny as hell subtitles. Very nice touch! Cant repeat the subtitles here but wish I had a copy! The room has a very70's Chinatown dive bar feel to it. They only have beer, wine and wine concoctions. But that was fine with me I like beer it makes the words flow better when its your time to sing. The DJ was a cool guy and he has a huge catalog of jams. I was planning on doing a The Sugar Hill Gang's Rappers Delight . They got a smokers lounge out back with plenty of seating and lots of room inside to get your party on. So feel like singing or just chillin'? Either way give them a spin for a fun night out.
